I have had the pleasure of both living and working in Scotland House. I lived here my first year in college, my experience was so wonderful that I had to join the team! I had a wonderful relationship with not only my RA, but all of the RA’s in the building. They each were very accessible, warming and personable. There was never a dull moment; Scotland House RA’s would host 2-3 programs for students like myself to attend. Being an out of state student it was a tough adjustment, but programs and study sessions made it easy to meet new friends and build strong relationships. My RA Dylan recommended that I apply for the position. I applied and was privileged to join the Scotland and England House staff. I love love love my team! I could not ask for a better supervisor and team!

During my time here at ODU, I have flourished in many ways. In my freshmen year, I joined Student Government Association which taught me how to become a better leader and advocate for others. Also during my freshman year, I started an organization called Foster-U which helps youth in foster care. Without the support of amazing individuals like Taryn Boone, I would not be where I am today. My time living and studying here at ODU has been nothing short of amazing. I am super excited to see where ODU takes me next!
Being the Peer Mentor for the ROTC LLC has been a highlight in my time here at ODU. Working with freshmen Midshipmen and Cadets has been extremely fulfilling and educational, and has helped me to develop professionally and academically. Learning how to hold myself accountable and help set the example for my students has pushed me to become a better student and a better leader. As an aspiring Marine Corps Officer, getting experience in leading like-minded people has provided me with the opportunity to understand different learning styles and appreciate the diversity of my community.

LIVING LEARNING COMMUNITIES Living-Learning Communities (LLCs) provide students the opportunity to live and engage other students who have similar academic, professional, and/or co-curricular interests. LLCs require enrollment in specific courses (outlined below). Research shows students who participate in LivingLearning Communities are more engaged, transition to college better, and have greater satisfaction with the overall college experience. Living in one of these communities will provide a unique livinglearning experience that connects you to the ODU community while achieving student success.
Living-Learning Communities have been a dynamic part of the residential experience at ODU for a number of years. Students often share how much more involved and connected they feel because of their LLC experience. Our hope is that LLCs bring students and faculty together in a less intimidating environment, and to create a more lasting impact on their overall student success at ODU.Â
