Welcome to femme fatale
The definition of Femme Fatale is a strong, seductive woman that
is confident and doesn’t need to rely on anyone but herself to keep her best interests in mind.
Here at Femme Fatale, Co-Editors and Writers Andie Metzger,
Ellery Hoyt, Ellie Underwood, and Emily Lester are here to amplify the empowerment of women through the use of makeup and fashion. We believe that every person is strong and beautiful in their own way., and in this issue we give you the tips and tricks to make it all a little bit easier.
We chose our cover star Maddie Greeley because she gives off a
very strong vibe that exemplifies the concept of our magazine. We wanted to focus on her own individual beauty, so we kept the colors more neutral with a pop of the red face paint and lipstick “bullet”. She also has a feature in Andie Metzger’s article “The Fresh Face Project”, where she talks about how she started wearing makeup and what influences her in high school and life. She is a good example of independence and confidence because she wears whatever she feels good in, and we believe thats how every person should feel.
You can be strong, you can be confident, you can be independent.
It can be difficult, but with the right tools to guide you, you will be able to feel beautiful with who you are.

How To Get The Look: Celebrity Edition
DO’S AND DON’TS OF MAKEUP
DO
DONT
Foundation
Choosing a wrong shade: You want to make sure you have the right color of foundation. The whole thing with foundation is that it has to match your body. Find one that matches your body the best. Make sure you know what skin tone you are. Most likely if you choose the wrong shade it is because you didn’t try it in store or you were matched to the wrong shade.
Power
Find a power that complements your foundation shade and doesn’t over write it. Many people use a power foundation over foundation. The difference between a pressed power and a powder foundation is that a pressed power can be used to set your foundation. Rather than a powder foundation, which is usually meant to be worn on its own so, it doesn’t need anything underneath it. If you’re wearing foundation, mainly full coverage, and you go over with a powder foundation, its full coverage plus full coverage and its very thick.
Bronzer
There’s a certain level where you can cross the line and it becomes very over powering. Some girls do both, bronzer and contour, and it ends up covering the hollows the cheek, the cheekbone, and the apples of the cheek.
Blush
Apply blush from your temples to your cheeks. If you go over your bronzer with blush it will look very intense. We wear blush because we want it to look natural and flushed. When you go overboard you are defeating that purpose and looks a little bit too much.
Eyebrows
If you shape and fill your eyebrows in right they have the power to frame your whole face and they can make you look better. If you weren’t lucky enough to be born with nice full eyebrows then you can fill them in. If you were born with full eyebrows then you can get them waxed and shaped to complement your face shape.
Highlighter
Highlighter is meant to be used in moderation because it is so eye catching. If you have a thick highlighter stripe down your face it will catch attention but it could be the wrong kind of attention. If it’s a nice settle amount of sheen on the cheekbone it will make your cheekbones look very round and high.
Eye shadow
Blending of Eye shadow: You don’t want a noticeable line where your eye shadow ends and your skin begins. It can be hard it you don’t have the right brush. Try not to leave your eye shadow with harsh lines, try to blend it in using wiper motions.
Eyeliner
In terms of what will flatter your face the most, it looks best if you a bit of eyeliner on the top of your lash line. Blend it out with your finger or a brush and then trace a little bit of the eyeliner on the outer corner or your bottom lash line. Many girls create a thin line on the top lash line and a very thick line on the bottom and it really weighs the eyes down. Eyeliner should always be thicker on the top of your lash line rather than the bottom.
Confidence through Makeup
by Ellery Hoyt
I am sitting on my couch at home to watch TV with my family one night when my mom commented on my appearance. I didn’t go out that day so I hadn’t put on my usual makeup. “I wish you didn’t wear so much makeup, you look so much better with minimal makeup.” I feel a hard pang I my chest as my anxiety kicks in. “I don’t feel pretty with little makeup on, Mom. I have to wear makeup because it makes me feel like me.” “But wearing makeup is wearing a mask, so you’re not really you.” I decide to not to start an argument with her. She doesn’t seem to grasp the concept that makeup is me. If I show up to school or work with little to no makeup on, my friends and coworkers would ask me if I was okay. Not wearing makeup isn’t normal for me. For myself, and many other girls and boys, makeup is a source of

discoloration, who is to say that they can’t wear makeup to make them feel better about themselves? Makeup is fun. It shouldn’t be a burden that you dread doing. You can create these incredibly, dramatic looks and if you don’t like it, then you can just remove it and start again. That’s the beauty of makeup. It isn’t permanent, so you can feel free to be as crazy as you want with your looks. When it comes to feeling good about who you are, I believe that people deserve time to take care of and pamper themselves. This includes experimenting and enjoying an array of cosmetics. Furthermore, wearing makeup is one of the many ways in which people take pride in their appearances. It’s quite empowering, because it enables us to present ourselves exactly how we like. We have control of our own images.

empowerment. Makeup has a way of transforming my attitude and making my day that much brighter. Without it I feel small and insignificant. No one is save from the image in the mirror. We are all critical of ourselves, except Ms. Vohs since she is perfect. However, there are ways to make us that much happier with our appearance and for some people that is with makeup. Makeup is not being fake. Makeup is a way to enhance the features you love, and diminish the features you don’t like so much. I always see the pictures of a girls before and after photo with makeup on, the caption saying, “This is why you take a girl swimming on the first date.” I have news for you. There are ways to make your makeup water resistant. I didn’t spend $30 on Urban Decay Finishing Spray and $70 on Hourglass Veil Primer for nothing. Do not feel like you are obligated to wear makeup. Some people feel that they do not need makeup and that is perfectly fine. Don’t let someone else dictate whether you should or shouldn’t wear makeup. And for the people who have been in unfortunate accidents that have scars or skin
MAKEUP
17 Life Changing Hacks 1. Proper perfume application
To get your perfume to last all day, apply to your pulse points (inside wrist, behind ears, neck, inside elbow, and behind your knees.)
2. Achieve perfect winged liner with tape
To get that perfect wing, you only need one common house-hold item: tape. Put a small piece of tape on the corner of your eyes and apply liner. Now you have a perfect wing with little to no work.
3. Reuse mascara brushes
Sometimes you find a mascara brush that works extremely well on your lashes. You dont have to throw it away when the mascara is gone. Clean it off, and use it with other types of mascara.
4. Easy eyelash glue application
Applying eyelash glue can be a very difficult task. Put the glue on a bobby-pin and apply the glue with the tip of a bobby-pin for a more even application.
5. Make lipstick last longer
Put on a coat of lipstick. Then lay a tissue across your lips and dust translucent powder over the tissue to make the color set and your lipstick last longer.
6. Create natural contouring
Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out where to put blush and bronzer when contouring. Place an eye-liner pencil or even a makeup brush handle directly below your cheekbone to find the right angle for contouring. 7. Create a perfect Cupids Bow Draw an X on your upper lip (Cupids Bow) with your lip liner. Apply your lipstick using the X and you will have the perfect pout.
8.Make your eyes look wider
Brush your mascara towards the inner corner of your eyes instead of upwards. This will make your lashes look fuller and your eyes look bigger.
9. Cover up dark circles and puffy eyes
Apply your concealer in a triangle shape, with the base at your lash line and the tip at the bottom of your cheek. This will brighten up your face, hide any redness, and cover up dark circles.
10. No more mascara on upper eyelids
Use a notecard for this hack. Hold the notecard against your upper lashline when applying mascara. Any mascara that would normally go on your lids and ruin your eyeshadow, will now just be on the notecard
11. Re-moisturize mascara
Don’t throw away mascara just because it has dried up; instead, add a few drops of saline solution. This will make it moist again and work just as well as when you first bought it.
12.Curl your lashes faster
Use your hairdryer to heat your lash curler for no more than 15 seconds. Let it cool off, and use as you normally would. This will set your lashes so the curl will last longer.
13.De-puff your eyes
Keep your eye cream in the fridge so it de-puffs baggy eyes.
14. Make your lips look more plump
Apply your favorite lipstick shade and then stamp the center of your top and bottom lip with a highlighter. Blend into lips, so it doesn’t look too harsh. This will make your lips look plumper and fuller.
15. Create a personalized mascara
Sometimes we try a new mascara and don’t love the formula or the wand, so we throw it in the back of a drawer and forget about it. Instead, keep the wand that you love, and match it with a formula that you love, or vice versa.
16. Make your eyeshadow pop
Take a white eyeliner pencil and put it over your entire lid. The consistency of the liner will intensify the eyeshadow shade and make it pop instantly.
17. Turn eyeliner pencil into gel
Hold your eye pencil under the flame of a lighter for ONE second, and let it cool for 15 seconds. Watch the consistency change and glide your new gel liner on for an instant smudgier formula.
THE FIGHT AGAINST FUR With winter quickly approaching, fur garments can be a warm, fashion-forward necessity in all closets. Although many large brand names carry faux fur, it is a stressed necessity to make the extra effort in order to make sure that pieces purchased are 100% faux. Bold pieces can add personality and confidence to an outfit but it’s hard to feel completely good about a product made from animal cruelty. But don’t worry, finding faux fur is easier than you think and will leave your winter wardrobe cute, warm, and animal-friendly.
WHY GO FAUX?
Surely no one would make the conscious choice to hurt cute little bunnies or foxes, the main source of these choices comes from being merely uninformed of the issue. Millions of animals are killed each year in the name of fashion and although fur is a major staple in the fashion world, the senseless deaths are just not worth it. In modern day, the warmth that fur provides is appreciated but is no longer needed in order to survive. With the increase of education on the problem and resistance to participating in buying fur products, slowly-but-surely, people will catch on to the 100% faux fur trend.
FAUX OR NO?
Even if clothing tags don’t come right out and say that they contain animal products, there are simple steps to take when buying a product to make sure that you are getting the best garment possible.
1. BUY BY BRAND
With the faux fur revolution already beginning, many large name brands have hopped on the bandwagon and have removed animal products from their stores. Certain brands, however, have not caught and their products should be further looked into in order to determine the fabrics they contain. Some of those designer brands include: Alexander Wang, Burberry, Dior, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Valentino 2. CONSIDER THE PRICE RANGE:
From the list above, it is clear to see that some of the most well-known and expensive brands fall on the list of products containing animal materials. Real fur is considered a highend material so it is most likely associated with expensive products. There are exceptions, though, and it is still important to check labels and not just assume that all expensive fur products are real and that all inexpensive fur products are faux.
3. CHECK THE LABEL
It may not be as easy as that, but if you know what to look for then checking clothing tags should be the first step. Materials containing animal products expand beyond just leather and fur. Some other fabrics to be mindful of include: Wool, Angora, Cashmere, Pashmina, Mohair, Shearling
4. FEEL THE FUR
Although not a 100% guaranteed source, there are ways to tell if certain fur is real or not just by touch. Real fur is extremely soft to the touch (As if you were touching, well, an animal). Faux fur has a more distinct, coarse feel as if that of a stuffed animal. Again, this step is more of a side note to keep in mind and the most credible source would be to further research brands or to check the direct clothing label.

How to: Transform Your Makeup From Day to Night Its 5:30 p.m. and you are still at the office but its date night!! You have 10 minutes to get ready once you leave work to meet him where he made reservations for the night. You don’t have time to do a date night-makeup look, so all you can do is refresh your makeup and make things pop a little more. Follow these steps to learn how to go from day to night without starting over completely. Your night time makeup should be an amped up version of your day-time look. Transitioning from day to night is all about adding a little more drama to the face.
Your night time makeup should be an amped up version of your day-time look. Transitioning from day to night is all about adding a little more drama to the face. Odds are your makeup from the day has built up oils on your face. You want to get rid of the oils before adding to the look for your night out. Use blotting papers to remove any oils on your face; especially your T-zone, this area tends to build up shine. Touch up foundation/concealer/powder if necessary. Lastly, wipe away any eye-makeup that has smeared or smudged.
Eyes
Start by deepening your crease with a tan or beige color. For a sultry nighttime look, add a lid color and a plum shade for the outer corner. Use that same shade on your lower lash line. Apply eye-liner to your upper lash line, and use liquid eye-liner if you want to add a little extra cat-eye. Since adding new mascara on top of old mascara usually results in clumpy lashes, you could put false lashes on to make your lashes look a little fuller.
Lips
To take your lips from day to night, apply a lip color a few shades darker than your natural lip color. Go from a nude during the day, to a darker, more intense lip color for your night out. Use a lip-liner to make your lipstick last all night.
Skin
Day
Night
Your nighttime look should have a little sparkle! Use a shimmer powder or highlighting powder to highlight your cheek bones, nose, and forehead. Bronze your skin if necessary, and contour your cheeks with a precise makeup brush. If you contour for your daily look, make it more intense for the night. Deepen the contour, also contour your nose and forehead instead of just your cheeks. Make your Makeup last -Use a primer on your face before applying your foundation -Use powder to set your foundation right after you apply it. This will make your foundation last longer -To get your eye shadow to last longer, use concealer or an eye primer on your eye lids -Apply a lip liner over your entire lip to get your lipstick to last longer
Starting out you want to use a very light coverage BB cream or foundation because we want to keep this look very natural. Buff into your skin, because you will get a really nice, even coverage and it won’t look patchy. Next you want to take a light shade of concealer to highlight underneath your eyes. Only use a little bit, not too much. This will get rid of some of the darkness around the eyes and make you look more awake. Apply a triangle shape under your eye and also in the inner corner. Make sure you blend it all out so it doesn’t crease. I find that the warmness of my fingers helps when blending concealer. It helps if you use patting motions so you are really pushing it into your skin. Next, you want to lightly set your face with a transparent powder. Don’t go overboard with this because you want to keep the natural shine of your face. Next to apply blush, you want to very lightly dab your brush into the pan, tap off the excess so you don’t get too much on the brush, then lightly dab that onto your cheeks. Next you would fill in your eyebrows like normal, keeping in mind that they should look natural. Take bright pearly-white eye shadow and apply just a little bit in your inner corner. Take a bronzer and apply a little in your crease to add depth to your eyes. Next apply mascara to your upper lashes to make your eyes look more awake. Adding a white eye liner on your waterline will make your eyes pop. Finally you want to highlight your cheekbones and nose to make you glow!
HOW TO:
Mastering the No-Makeup Makeup Look By: Ellie Underwood
DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU STARTED WEARING MAKEUP BECAUSE YOU WERE PRESSURED OR BECAUSE YOU WANTED TO? I wanted to. I felt like if I got to wear makeup, a part of me was finally growing up and it would actually be noticeable.
DO YOU FEEL BETTER WITH MAKEUP ON OR WITHOUT IT? I feel better with makeup on. It’s not like I have absolute self-hatred when not wearing it, but it is a proven fact that I look prettier with it on.
WHAT KIND OF PERSON DO YOU PROJECT WHEN WEARING MAKEUP?
I’ve been told that my look is pretty bold. I mean, with cat eye wings that I could literally take flight with, it’s true. I think I project a more serious and confident self when I wear makeup. I think it makes me look older, which isn’t always what I’m going for but occasionally it’s fulfilling to be mistaken for 22.
WHAT KIND OF PERSON DO YOU PROJECT WHEN WEARING MAKEUP?
THE
FRESH FACE
PROJECT
With endless sources in society projecting the idea of what is expected of women and how they must maintain their picture-perfect appearance, makeup has become more of a necessity in keeping up with these standards. Having these expectations multiplied by 10 in high school, Bad Ass, Maddie Greeley, shares what makeup means to her and how she uses it as a tool to defy society’s standards.
WHEN DID YOU START WEARING MAKEUP? I think it started in 8th grade (middle school, ew).
WHY DID YOU START?
I was curious as to what I would look like with it on (if I wouldn’t look so much like a guy), and of course because my friends were starting to wear it, too.
Without makeup I feel like I blend in. I don’t like to blend in because it makes me feel invisible. It’s not a “what do other people think of me” type of thing, but it’s actually how I feel about myself. Not wearing makeup makes me look younger, like a 12 year old boy (especially because of my hair), which makes me feel like I’m not being taken seriously.
HOW DOES BEING IN HIGH SCHOOL AFFECT YOUR EVERYDAY LOOK?
I think that so many people in high school are influenced by what other people wear. Trends start to all look the same because people start to all dress like the norm. It gets so tiring seeing the same kind of people all over high school. I like having my own look so I can feel different. It’s not about the approval of others. People dress to impress high schoolers which is, sadly, what high school is about nowadays.
DOES BEING IN HIGH SCHOOL INCREASE OR DECREASE YOUR USE OF MAKEUP? I feel more confident when I wear makeup. Obviously a part of me cares what other people think (because I’m human), but I personally don’t let other people’s opinions increase or decrease how much makeup I want to wear. It mostly depends if I’m feeling bad ass that morning and want to wear dramatic eyeliner, or if I’m too tired to go all-out.
Travel
Essentials
from makeup brush sets to nail polish remover pads, these 9 items are musthaves for light packing and easy traveling.
Makeup brush sets
Makeup brush sets are handy for traveling because there is a spot for each brush and they won’t get hurt or ruined from being thrown into a cosmetics bag. Brush sets can be almost as thin as passports and are designed to go places. You can even tuck in a few bandaids, q-tips, cleansing wipes, and packets of advil so it can serve as a first-aid kit.
Travel Manicure Kit
You shouldn’t be distracted but a chipped nail or stray brow hair when you are supposed to be on vacation or having fun. This six-in-one grooming kit lets you take care of the issue and move onto more important things.
Nail
Polish remover wipes
No matter how tight you secure the cap of your nail polish remover, some always seem to spill out. Avoid this (and the fumes) and slide individual wrapped wipes by NYC, which get the job done, and is guaranteed no spills.
Shampoo and Conditioner
More and more brands are offering travel sized versions of shampoo and conditioner. Not sure which brand to choose from? Living proof comes in tiny bottles and throws in its Restore Moisture Treatment, as well, which can be helpful after a couple days spent on the beach or poolside.
Face Cleanser
Your skin care routine is the last thing you want to leave at home when going on a trip, because traveling can sometimes cause breakouts. A recommended daily cleanser is Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. It will gently remove your makeup, and tone and moisturize your skin.
BB Cream
Traveling with BB cream is going to save you from cramming 5 different creams in your cosmetics bag. Most BB creams act as skin perfectors, primers, sunscreens, moisturizers, and foundations, making them multitasking superstars that should definitely go along on any trip.
Perfume
Those beautiful fragrance bottles you have displayed on your vanity are nice, but when you want one to go, pick up one in a rollerball package. These skinny vials will easily slip into your bag and will never spill or leak which means you can smell as good as you always do—in places you’ve never been before.
Mascara
Mascara is a given for travel, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t consider your options before adding it to the bag. It is probably a good idea to switch from a regular formula to a water-proof one. That way we are covered, if you find yourself stuck in a rain storm or swimming in the ocean on your vacation.
Makeup Palette
Compact palettes create a multitude of shades and colors. Eyeshadows can work as brow enhancers (which saves you from bringing unnecessary brow products.) With the different shades in a compact palette, some being sparkly and some being matte, you will have the option to pull off a natural or glam look.
Drugstore Dupes for High End Makeup
Laura Mercier Secret Brightening $25 Elf Under eye Setting Powder $3
Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Power is a translucent powder and is used for setting your under eye concealer while brightening. The Elf Under Eye Setting Power is a little more glittery but with the price difference it is well worth it. If you take a powder brush and go over the Elf Under Eye Setting Powder, it wipes the glitter away.
Mac Electric Cool Eye shadow $22 Colourpop Super Shock Shadows $5.40
These two products are very similar to each other. They both have the same packaging except the Mac shadows are in a black container and the Colourpop shadows are in a white container. They both have the exact same texture and formula.
Tarte CC Under eye corrector $24 Pixi Correction Concentrate $12
The Tarte CC Under Eye Corrector is a great product and works really well to cover up dark circles. The Pixi Correction Concentrate is the same thing but the Tarte one is more pigmented but is thicker. They both do the same thing so it depends on which one you like more.
Anastasia Brow Wiz $21 NYX Micro Brow Pencil $10
Get the Same Look for A More Affordable Price!
Anastasia Brow Wiz is everyone’s holy grail eyebrow product, but NYX recently came out with their own brow pencil. Both have the same packaging, one side is the product and the other side is a spoolie. Besides the packaging the formula is very similar. They both have the same grip, tug, color payoff, and wax texture. The only difference is the Anastasia one glides on a tiny bit better. For that reason the Brow Wiz is a little bit better, but for price comparison you cant go wrong with the NYX Micro Brow Pencil.
Too Faced Glitter Glue $20 Elf Glitter Primer $2
Too Faced Glitter Glue is very popular and is used to apply glitters and pigments to your eye lids. But if you want to save some money the Elf Glitter Primer pretty much works the exact same way.
Mac Pro Long wear paint pot $22 Maybelline color tattoo 24 hour eye shadows $5-7
The paint pots prime your eyelids really nicely and they stay in place all day. Both lines do have different colors but they have the same formula and work the same. The Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eye Shadows are just as good as the Mac Pro Long Wear Paint Pots and you can find a lot of amazing colors while saving money.
Becca Shimmering skin perfecter in Opal $30-38 Colourpop super shock check in Wisp $8
These products are different fomulas but they are the same color. When you swatch them they do look a little different because the formulas are different, one is a creamy texture and one is a powder. On the cheeks you can not tell the difference, which is nice. Wisp is more intense, which makes it better and the price is also better.
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper $27 Jessie’s Girl Liquid Liner in Black $7
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner is not a felt tip but it is still a pen type of liner. The Jessies Girl liner one is 100% the same as the Kat Von D liner. You can not tell the difference with the color payoff, which is amazing.
Mac Mineralized Blushes(32) Malani Baked Blushes(8)
Mac Mineralized blushes look healty on the skin and give a nice sheen. They both have the same effect and last the same amount of time on the face.
Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer $18-72 (depending on size) NYX Angel Veil Primer(16)
The Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer is a great primer, it does prolong makeup for a very long time. The NYX Angel Veil Primer is so similar, most people prefer it more than the Hourglass one. The Hourglass Primer does make your makeup last a little bit longer but the NYX primer is more hydrating. They both have the white milky consistency, both oil free, and blurs pores.
Dont spend more money when you can get the same look for less!

RISING STAR: DESIGNER MOLLY O’BRIEN OPENS UP by Ellery Hoyt In fashion, you don’t often see younger artists becoming very prominent. However, when it comes to 16-year-old designer, Molly O’Brien, you are never too young to make your mark. I first discovered her at KC Fashion Week with her Spring/Summer ’16 collection, where she proved that when it comes to what you can achieve, age is just a number. The collection has a sporty feel with a touch of modern elements, which she says is her signature style. That works out well for her since sporty chic is predicted to be the trend next summer! I had the chance to interview her a few weeks ago, asking her what her inspirations are, where she got her start, and how she plans on becoming a well-known name. Q: How long have you been designing and how did you jumpstart your career? A: I have always been intrigued about the fashion industry since a young age. When I was younger I was continuously drawing, experimenting with mixed media, and eventually learning how to sew. My grandma taught me to sew at a young age, but back then it was mainly pillowcases. At age 8 I attended a fashion camp where we learned about all aspects of the fashion industry, including sketching, unconventional designing, and modeling. Then my freshman year of high school, I started focusing on fashion designing and worked hard to expand my sewing/ pattern making knowledge. I began to develop collection ideas and then applied those ideas to both Omaha and Kansas City Fashion Week… That was the start of Molly Elizabeth designs! Q: Did you ever think you would see your collections on a runway? A: I always dreamed of the moment seeing my collections on the runways, but I never believed it would happen so soon! I think my hard work and perseverance helped make this dream a reality. People are going to tell you no, but if you believe in what you are making, perseverance will pay off. My first ever runway show was Omaha Fashion Week and the moment the lights dimmed and the first model walked out, the audience clapped, and I knew this was what I was meant to do!
Q: What do you think is the most challenging thing about being a young and new designer? A: The biggest challenge for me as a teen designer is marketing my brand, because as a teen it can be hard to find contacts to help your business flourish. I have learned networking is key to marketing and it’s important to take every opportunity you receive- you never know where it could lead you! Q:What brought you to KC Fashion Week? A: I auditioned nearby to Omaha Fashion Week and heard about Kansas City Fashion Week from some local designers. The event received such positive feedback and the fashion industry in Kansas City is starting the grown and thrive, so I thought it would be a great experience for my design career. Kansas City Fashion Week is such an amazing fashion event; put together by such a brilliant, experienced, and hardworking team! If you love fashion, you should definitely check KC fashion week out & it will always be one my favorite events to debut my collections! Q: Who inspires you the most, whether that is someone famous or not? A:Isabella Rose Taylor, teen designer & artist, inspires me in my fashion career
because she has achieved so much in the fashion industry at such a young age! Seeing people my age doing amazing things really motivates me, because it shows how anything is possible! I hope to inspire other aspiring designers to make their dream a reality! Q: Where do you draw your inspiration? A:I draw most of my inspiration from past travels, unique architecture, past eras (specifically the 60’s and 70’s.) I am obsessed with cities and their complex architecture and details that go into making such beautiful places. It’s just truly inspiring. For example my S/S 2016 collection was inspired by my recent trip to London, specifically a mix of London’s different aesthetics. Ideas can spark anywhere, from walking down the street, flipping through a magazine, to sitting in math class! Q: How did you feel your international debut in Vancouver went? A: It was an amazing experience debuting my Spring/Summer 2016 collection to an international audience this October. Branching out to larger markets is very important for a fashion brand, so it was a great experience for not only me personally as a designer, but for my brand. I gained a lot of press, experience, and networking which is key in the fashion industry.

A: The most nerve-racking moment of my design career so far was minutes before my first runway show! I didn’t know what to expect and the pre-show excitement started to kick in. I was extremely nervous and hoped I would get positive feedback from the audience after all the months of hard work. Being nervous is part of trying new things, but it’s also one of the best feelings when you accomplish something you never thought you could! Q: How did you know you wanted to do this for your career? A: Well, I couldn’t imagine my life without the fashion industry; it’s where I’m meant to be. From the moment I wake up to when I go to bed, fashion is on my mind 24/7. I think the moment I really knew being a successful designer my career dream, was the moment of my first runway show. Building a collection is months of hard work, dedication, perseverance, and long nights, just for a couple minute runway show. Some may think it’s crazy, but for me it’s all worth it and its BEST feeling seeing my designs walk down the runway… Fashion design is my passion.
Q: What are your future plans? A: I am planning to launch an online store this spring (stay tuned to my Instagram, @mollyelizabethdesigns for updates!) featuring my S/S 16’ collection! I then want to attend design school in either New York City or Los Angeles. I hope to eventually see my designs sold in stores and participate in larger fashion weeks like London, New York, Paris, etc. I can’t wait to see where my design career leads me! Q: Do you have any advice for someone wanting to start in the fashion industry? A: The fashion industry is HIGHLY competitive, so it’s important to get started young! Make sure to experiment with all aspects of the fashion industry at a young age, because there are so many different options related to the fashion industry. If you find your passion now, it will give you a head start in the future! Immerse yourself in anything fashion related & become obsessed. Attend fashion events, subscribe to fashion magazines, explore your fashion style, and anything that will help you pursue your career. If you want to make it big, you have to put in the effort and believe in yourself… Don’t ever give up!!!
