Makeup Trends of 2015 By: Emily Tozier
As two thousand fifteen is coming to an end, there is a lot of noticeable makeup trends displayed by famous people, fashion models on the runway, and just people living their everyday life. Even though most people pay attention to the outfits on the runway so many makeup trends come from these shows used to compliment the. Our society is so influenced by the “popular” and “famous” that most trends are reflected from them outfits
creating new and exciting styles. The first trend is bright lipstick, also called “flaming lips”. Colors such as pinks, oranges, and reds have been very popular to wear this year. Bright red lips have been known to make a statement and add a rich pop of color to the face. Recently bright lips have come back in, calm nude colors took over bright reds and pinks the past few years. Another popular lip 1
color is dark shades of burgundy and plum, a style very popular from the 90s that is coming back. Bronze is the eyeshadow color of the year. Simple taupes with bronze have been displayed by models and people for their everyday look. Bronze eyeshadow creates a very simple look as well as makes your eyes stand out. This look nearly fits for every occasion from going out with friends to being on the runway. Color is fun and exciting to play with so why not add some to your eyes? Colored eyeshadow and eyeliner may not be for everyone, but this style will be sure to draw attention. In the 80s, colored makeup was very relevant and is being brought back in. A pop of color has been most seen on the runway this year, but some people pull it off with their everyday look. The most popular colors are blues, purples, pinks, and greens. Colored makeup has been used to create a statement and make your face pop. Eyeliner and eyeshadow are the most popular to add an easy pop of color to your makeup look. Blush is a very simple and easy trend for an everyday look. Blush can be used for a
simple look or it can make your cheeks stand out with a bold pop of pink. This fall blushed cheeks were spotted all over the runway from light pinks to bright reds. On the runway, light tones were brushed with a bright blush to compliment. Most people are scared to try out blush, but it’s such an easy step to add to get the perfect look. Bright lips, bronze eyes, colored makeup, and blushed cheeks have all been the top trends for the year of twenty fifteen. Some
of these trends such as bright lips and colored makeup have returned from previous decades like the 80s and 90s, every year we see new trends come and old ones returning. Each of these trends creates their own look perfecting ever makeup style desired. Our society will continue to change their makeup style based on what trends fade in and out each year. 2
Advice on Clear Skin By: Emily Tozier
Anonymous Person- Lately I have been breaking out so much and my face is so dry, what should I do? Here are 7 simple steps of advice to keep your skin healthy and why to follow them. 1.Always remove makeup before bed. 2.Wash your face when you wake up and before bed. 3.Drink plenty of water every day. 4.Exfoliate 5.Use Toner. 6.Moisturize.
Removing your makeup before you go to sleep each night is the first step to healthy skin. Even though we all have those nights where we are way too lazy to remove makeup you will be happy you did later and feel so refreshed. Leaving makeup on clogs your pores causing them to get irritated and inflamed which then leads to pimples. If makeup if left on around your eyes it can lead to eye infections because of the chemicals in the makeup. Sleeping in makeup can also cause skin irritation such as red patches and dryness of skin. If not removing makeup is an everyday 3
occurrence it can lead to your skin aging because makeup slows down the renewal process that your skin goes through as you’re asleep. If you make removing makeup a habit it will prevent the worse from happening to your face and make it healthier. Washing your face twice a day is best, once when you wake up and once at night after your makeup is removed. First find the face wash that works best for your skin type and stick with it so your skin doesn’t get irritated by multiple face washes. Washing your face gets the oil and dirt off your face and prevents breakouts; it can also unclog pores and attacks pimples depending on the face wash your using. Drinking water has many benefits for keeping your body healthy including hydrating your skin; keeping your skin hydrated prevents wrinkles as you get with dehydrated skin. It’s best to drink six to eight glasses of water a day for your health. Exfoliating your face is very important and most people don’t exfoliate or even know what it means. Exfoliation is the removal of dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. It is important because when dead skin cells start to pile up on your face it will leave your skin looking dry and rough, then the dead skin can cause clogged pores and additional acne. After exfoliating this unclogs the skin, uncovering fresh new skin cells and also allowing moisturizer to soothe better into your skin. There are many ways to
exfoliate your skin such as using a scrub, or exfoliating wipes, just find what works best for you. Exfoliation should not be in your everyday schedule, it should only be used about once a week; if used more it can cause dry and irritated skin. Add exfoliating into your schedule once a week and notice the results of healthy skin. Toner is a product that is overlooked for much when it shouldn’t be because it provides so much for your skin. Toner shrinks pores, adds a layer of protection, moisturizes and refreshes the skin. It can help close pores and tighten gaps after cleansing. Apply a small portion
of after washing your face and before applying moisturizer. Last but not least apply moisturizer every day, it helps keep your skin hydrated and soft. Use moisturizer after cleansing your face, apply a small portion but just enough to cover your face, you don’t want too much because it can cause you skin to become oily. If you follow these six steps you will start to notice a difference in your skin, it will be so much healthyer and have a much clearer apperance. 4
Coconut Oil Remedy
Step 1) Go to your local grocery store and purchase coconut oil; there’s no specific kind.
Step 2) Melt about two tablespoons of Coconut oil in a bowl and stir until it turns into liquid.
Step 3) Put your hair into a tight, high pony and brush through the ends.
Step 4) Rub the melted oil throughout your hair, skipping your roots. Only apply a thin layer. After you’re done, wash it out with water and shampoo. 6

Fall 2015
Winter 2015
As we descend into fall all of our bronzed bodies are now turning into ghostly figures. Therefore one big beauty trend in the fall is adding blush to your daily makeup routine. As our bodies get paler, I assume everyone wants to look a little lively by adding some color to those cheeks. Another big trend that we have noticed is dark lips. Dark lips might be contradictory towards our pale skin but I think people are starting to embrace the fact that yes, its fall, and everyone looks pale. The typical fall nail colors are also right in the line of lip color. We have golds, and bieges, and blacks, and greens, but the most popular nail color we have noticed so far is a dark red maroon. Maybe matching your nails with your lips is the new in? we’ll have to get back to you on that.
As winter approaches fast and furiously, we are also waiting on beauty trends to descend. Trends are forever changing and all we can do now is make prediction for what’s to come this winter. One of my favorite previous winter trends that I hope makes an appearance this year are bold eyes with thick eyeliner. I also assume that darker lip shades will also be very popular. As for nail polish, I would like to say black is the new black… because honestly you just can’t go wrong with black.

Spring 2015
Summer 2015
Throughout this spring there were so many contradictory trends that it was hard for us to decide what we would consider the most prominent. Throughout the fashion world one of the bigger trends we saw was a bold eye. We had a fierce introductory to winged eyeliner (cat eye) inspired by the one and only T-Swift. The winged eyeliner is an obvious bold statement but even bolder were the eye shadow colors accompanying it. People turned to colors like blue and purple to make a bold statement especially on the runway. Another Spring trend that became very prominent was bold lips leaving you to say red is the new black. this spring it was almost assured when you stepped outdoors you would see at least 5 people with raspberry red or peach lips out rocking the streets.
Let’s be honest when summer rolls around there’s no shame in being a little lazy with your make-up. I don’t blame you the hot weather calls for some lazy days, or for some lazy months. That’s why this summer’s biggest trend was the all-natural look. Everyone left there bold spring trends at home and turned to minimalistic brown eye shadows, and clear gloss. Another big trend was the introductory to braids. Braids became all the rage this summer with the combo of fishtails and French braids, braids were everyone’s easy and cute go to hairstyle. Accompanying the braids big headbands came back. Big hippie headbands seemed to be all the rage in the 50’s hippie decade and have finally that trend returned. Personally I was thrilled about all the summer trends considering all you had to do is braid your hair put on a little lip-gloss and get out the door. 10

Day To Night Paige Kochenower
Day
Rule #1; less is more It’s worth considering laying off the eyeliner a bit, and focusing more on staying light and fresh. It’s younger, cuter, and (to be honest) doesn’t look like you’re trying too hard to cover up your real face! Rule #2; perfectly groomed brows A girl doesn’t need nearly as much liner when she has perfectly shaped brows– it frames your face and is truly seductive without being as noticeable. Remember, you can tell a lot about a person by their eyebrows Rule #3; light on mascara A little mascara goes a long way with a daytime look. It polishes the look and adds that touch of femininity that will draw any man in. If you’re having trouble with clumpy lashes, grab an extra mascara brush to brush out the tangles.
Night
Rule #1; say hello to liner Going from day to night is all about adding drama, Be a little more generous with the liner in the nighttime look. It’s more dramatic and makes your eyes stand out in a crowd. Adding a cat eye is never a bad idea. Rule #2; play with color Use a little pop of a sophisticated shade on your lips that really caters to your natural. It’s fun, unique, and it accents your naturally beautiful features. Make a vivid statement with your lips, to be sure your lips draw people in. Don’t forget to add a little more shimmer to your cheek bones for that extra definition! Rule #3; smoke it out Use a deeper shade in the crease then pair it with lighter shades on the lid and highlights just below the brow. Say hello to the perfect night. 13
Is a Spa Day Worth The Money? BY: Abbey Bart
Is a day at the spa worth the money? I recently asked myself this question when I received the big book of coupons that I receive monthly in the mail, and it seemed about every 5 ads there was an ad for a massage or the o so intriguing weekend getaway spa packages. I went around asking all my friends whether they have ever indulged themselves in a spa day, but after I had a couple laugh in my face and others state, “nobody has time for that” I decided that I myself would have to answer my own question. Is a day at the spa truly worth all the money you spend? I have to admit I was skeptical at first, as I was researching on the inter-
net which spas would be considered the best, I can see as to why I have never been to one before. The prices were out of control and for what seemed like things that I could do at my own home; Such as a cucumber masks, and mud baths. I mean couldn’t I just go out in my yard and grab some mud to bathe in? Well apparently mud baths are much more complex than that, but well get to that later. I finally found a spa that seemed like the right fit for me, and it only had little to do with fact that I had found 2 coupons while I was searching through my old mile high mail pile. Ok it had a lot to do with it, but as I researched Ultimate Escape Day Spa I was pleasantly surprised to see what good 14
ratings it had gotten and how much people raved about their experiences there. So I called them and made my appointment for the upcoming weekend. As I prepared to leave for my day at the spa I told myself that if I was going to do this I was going to fully commit to this relaxation and I would turn my phone off for the day, which turned out to be a lot easier than I thought it would be. To my surprise I felt immediately a little more relaxed right when I walked into the candlelit spa waiting room and was greeted with a cup of tea and the scent of lavender. It also helped that I wasn’t constantly greeted with a buzz telling me that I received a text or an email. After a short wait I was taken back and the relaxation began. I started out my spa day in the hot tub which they said would get my body warm and relaxed so the upcoming treatments would be more beneficial for me. Let me tell you, I could have stayed in that hot tub all day, but I’m glad I didn’t because the next part was what I really have to rave about. I was taken into the massage room and was again greeted with the relaxing scent of lavender, and if I hadn’t known any better I would have thought I was in heaven. It felt like the massage therapist was literally massaging out years of stress I had gathered up. Next I was up for my facial. They slathered this green stuff all over my face and they put cucumbers on my eyes, which I personally thought this cliché was only done in movies, but apparently cucumbers are one of the best products to rejuvenate the skin, and blah blah blah. To be honest at this point I was so relaxed that I was about to fall asleep and could barely comprehend anything they were saying. When my time was done and they started washing the mask off I
felt rejuvenated and as I touched my face (which they said I shouldn’t do cause it could cause breakouts, oops!) it felt like I was touching the face of a baby. After my massage and facial they persuaded me to end my day with hot rocks; Which I was initially kind of nervous about, because just the sound of hot rocks didn’t really seem that enticing to me. But again I realized that these people really must know what they are doing because as the hot rocks were placed on specific spots on my back I felt all my tension unfold. As I left the spa I truly felt completely rejuvenated, and honestly not even concerned about all the money I had just spent because this was the best I had felt in months and I dreaded having to turn my phone back on and return to the
real world. T_he next day as I walked into work I was continuously complimented on my refreshed face and was frequently asked if I had changed makeup brands, but to everyone’s surprise I actually wasn’t wearing any. So to conclude my question; I think a spa day every once and a while is well worth the money especially if you are able to find a spa that you are comfortable with, and that has all the features you are looking for. It’s always good to spend a little time away from the real world stresses and rejuvenate your body so you can keep being the queen that you are.

All About Acn e : The Truth Behind What’s Causing It By: Hannah Eckenroth
Everyone has their own insecurities; some people have freckles, some have birthmarks, and others have acne. Of course, you spend hours and hours stressing and obsessing over a tiny pimple that no one notices except for you. Every person you know has had at least one pimple before in his or her entire life. Acne and Cystic Acne affect over 75% of Americans and people spend over 1.4 billion dollars a year on acne products. The only thing they don’t
understand is that having acne and having cystic acne are two completely different things. Acne consists of black heads, whiteheads, and cogged pores. Cystic Acne is severe cysts on your face, chest, and back and is deeper into your skin, creating larger, red bumps full of puss. Most of the time, acne products such as orals and topicals work if you have mild acne. There is no cure for Cystic Acne but the most well known treatment that comes closest to curing it is Accutane. Accutane comes with 17
seriously harsh side effects such as extremely dry skin, rashes, nosebleeds, dry lips, and several others. Dermatologists will not let you go on it unless you have tried every topical and oral medication; it is the very last resort. If you don’t have cystic acne and aren’t able to go on Accutane, there are several factors that could be leading you to acne: tanning, over washing, picking or squeezing, excessive products, and avoiding moisturizer and sunscreen. Tanning increases oil production on your face and only temporarily camouflages breakouts and scars then makes it worse. Over washing your face aggravates your skin; especially when you are excessively rubbing face wash with micro-beads. It makes your face look red and throws off its natural balance. Picking at your pimples creates more bacteria and sends infection deeper into your pores that creates cystic acne. Picking at your face can also cause permanent scarring. Avoiding moisturizer and sunscreen creates excessive dryness and increases oil production, which leads to acne that’s hard to get rid of. On top of all that, you will have flaky skin along with your pimples. Stress is also one of the leading factors of pimples; have a spa day and treat yourself to some
relaxation. The only way to have clear skin if medications aren’t working for you is to use the right products and have consistency. There are several types of facials such as teen facials, which get rid of breakouts that are associated with adolescent skin. Exfoliating facials are the most popular kind of facial, they increase blood circulation and remove dead cells on your skin that create blackheads, whiteheads, and clogged pores, to restore a healthy glow and even skin tone. If you don’t want to spend
the money, there are several home remedies that are easy to use. Remedies include tapping tea tree oil onto pimples, banana peels, toothpaste, and steam from a boiling pot to open your pores. The easiest way to cure your pimples is to ditch the fatty, greasy foods such as fast food and replace it with fresh fruits and drink plenty of water to create a nice, healthy glow. Also, don’t forget to take a break from life- sit down, take a deep breath, and have time to yourself to clear your mind. 18
Tired of Your Everyday Makeup? By: Hannah Eckenroth
Tired of using the same eyeshadow every day and looking for something new? Are your eyes looking dull? Maybe you’re applying the wrong color of eyeshadow. Don’t worry, ADORN has the answer to all of your problems. When it comes to eye shadow, colors that flatter your eye color and your skin complexion are more important than you’d think. The colors
you may be wearing now could be drawing attention away from your eyes instead of making them pop. There are several colors that compliment your eyes but it involves testing different palettes and mixing colors. There are also several that you should stay away from if you want to really bring out your eyes. If your eyes are blue, you do not want to be walking around with bright blue eye shadow (even though that was once upon a time a nightmare of a trend). Blue-eyed people should be sticking to darker colors such as gray, black, purple, and lighter colors like pinks, peaches, apricot, and bronze. Blue eyes are very striking so you do not want to take away from the 19
natural beauty of your eye color. Stay away from blue tinted shadows to really make your eyes pop. Green eyes pop without eye shadow. Green-eyed people have it easy because almost every color looks good with them. The main colors you should be wearing are taupe, silver, and purple shades because green’s complementary color is purple and the contrast is eye catching. Shimmery, neutral eye shadows are your go to when you’re in doubt of what color to wear. Since Hazel eyes are a mixture of brown and green, any color that flatters brown eyes or hazel eyes will flatter your eyes. Hazel eyes have autumn colors in them like browns, golds, and greens. You can experiment with different color palettes and see what looks good on you. The only colors you should stay away from are pinks and purples. Brown eyes have several different shades and each shade has its own “it” color of eye shadow. Amber eyes look best with green and gold undertones to make your eyes sparkle. Dark brown eyes and deep purple balance each other out and create a more “smoky” look when paired with gray and lighter purple to bring out the brown in your eyes. Brown eyes pair well with bronze, copper, burnt orange, gray, and silver shadows. Blending is your best friend when it comes to applying different colors to your eyes. Skin complexion is more important to pay attention to than eye color is. You don’t want to have your eye shadow blend in with your complexion. Instead, you want to make your eyes pop by messing with different colors that you can find in your skin. For fair skin, cool shades of eye shadow are your best bet. They have just the right amount of contrast with your complexion. Light pinks, soft
honey, and peaches can be found in your skin tone so using them will flatter your natural color and create a more natural look. Avoid bright blues and as well as pinks and browns because they drain the color from your cheeks. Medium skin is for everyone who is not quite olive but not fair. Metallic brown eye shadow brightens your eyes because you do have a bit of olive in you. Bronze, gray, and copper are nice neutrals to create more of a natural and less dramatic look while complementing your eyes at the same time. For a more dramatic look, honey, lavender, and rich blues are your go to. Dark skin flatters almost every eye shadow color; every color really stands out against your dark complexion. Gold, copper, and bronze
can be used for a more natural look but still pop. Bright colors really stand out against your complexion as well as pastels, just be careful when applying eye shadow because too much can create a “dry and dirty” look. You don’t want your eye shadow to be chalky so apply thin layers. With these tips, you’ll be able to wow everyone with your perfect makeup. Your eyes will catch everyone’s attention. Don’t be reluctant to explore your options, you never know what looks best on you until you try.

Split knot twist & pin First, part your hair into two even sections. Then, take te two and knot them. Next, twist the loose ends around eachother. Once they’re twisted all the way, secure your loose ends with bobby pins. You can adjust this hair style to acquire your taste and out your personal spin on it!
Sleek ‘do
(Professional enough for work) Love this hair do - it’s not too fussy, yet not too messy, and if I can do it, anyone can. Take a section of hair at the crown of the head, use a ton of
hairspray and backcomb. Pull your hair into the highest ponytail you can. Secure the hair tie as tight as you can, but make the ponytail a few inches away from your scalp. From underneath, find the approximate middle of the ponytail and put your fingers through to the other end. Grab the end of the ponytail and pull it through the hole. Pull about two or three inches of hair through and no more. Pull the base of the ponytail so it becomes tight to your scalp Your hair should now look like this. See how the top of the bun
kind of goes off into a V? Gently pull those pieces forward if it happens to you and use bobby pins to secure. Secure the ends of the ponytail around the base of the hair tie with bobby pins. Spray the hair to take care of the flyaways if you like, though if you prefer a messier look, I’d leave them like I did here.
LAZY GIRL HACK #14
