Don’t

How to Go About Waking Up Late

T

he feeling of waking up late is panic mixed with confusion. What do I do first? How will I show up on time? How am I supposed to look good today? How will this day be good? What am I supposed to do first? Here are a few tips to get ready in the morning quickly when you are in a rush.

We have all felt this panic and need tips on how to move on with our day and make the downhill start turn around. The first step is to calm down. Don’t think about how much time you have, that only wastes more time! After you take that essential morning pee, quickly wash your hands and move right into washing

your face. A clean face will make you feel better and calm you down. Do a quick makeup application, cover the needed areas and add a little mascara, it will be a natural day. One sweep of bronzer will make it look on purpose. Your hair may look messy, so play it up, give it a little tease and place a high ponytail. Throw on your favorite slacks and an edgy blazer, don’t forget deodorant. The perfect breakfast is a nutritious apple or protein bar, something you always have on hand. Then run, run, run to your car and get to that meeting girl!

When updating a wardrobe you need to think about the things you would wear (essentials), rather than things that are pretty and would only wear a couple times. It’s good to stick with neutrals if you are on a tight budget because you’ll find that it will match things you already have. Mix and match is an important part of dressing on a low budget, you want to be able to combine each piece of clothing with at least 3 other pieces in your existing wardrobe. Look for timeless pieces. There are pieces that never go out of style. Usually clean lines, solid colors, and classic patterns in fabrics. Accessories are also important, they give your outfit a new dimension and can transform it from casual to formal. Make sure and you have a good handbag for day and a great one for night. Start first at discount outlets like TJ Maxx and Marshalls, and then head to the department and specialty stores.

Bouique Interview- Junque Drawer WITH JANE HOSEY STERN

Q: What made you wan’t to own your own boutique? How did you realize it was what you wanted to do? A: Well I knew I was in for an adventure when I realized I’d rather root through trash cans in

our alley than play other stuff. Finding treasures, re-working them into jewelry, home adornments & wall art was emblazed into my being starting in the 1960’s and has been an phenomenally wonderful addiction every since.

Q: What are some key points or tactics you use when running a buisness? A: We designed our layout to be fairly open so that the inventory is easy to shop and not overwhelm-

ing. I’ve shopped in plenty of vintage shops that are jam-packed with too much inventory. I love a breezy shopping environment, so we created a fairly spaced out layout. We rearrange and add new inventory several times a week. You must have the discipline to actually WORK in your business. Most people get up and go to a job. It becomes a habit, a safe routine. When you have your own business, there is no one telling you what to do or when to work so its easy to get caught up in it.

Q: What are some obstcles you’ve stumbled across? A: I had no experice going into this. I had to learn from my many mistakes as well as do almost everything by myself. Like paperwork, the business itself, bookkeeping, advertisivng, client relations, I could seriously go on and on.

Q: What are you’re favorite things about being an induvidual buisness owner? What are you’re least favorite things? A: I love so many things. Before owning my shop, I worked from home (online) for many years. Running a local shop is so incredibly fun and fulfilling. If I had to choose the best part it would be the process of visual merchandising. It’s so much fun to build something pretty full of products that people can try on and buy!

Q: How do you use social media to benefit your own buisness? A: I use my website, which also includes my blog. A blog really helps in a sense that it keeps peo-

ple in the store by letting them know what is going on. And having an awesome clientel, like mine, they spread the word!

Q: What are some sacrafices you have had to make while getting you’re buisness up and running? A: Be sure you not only know what you’re getting yourself into - but make sure your family and

spouse understand and are willing to make the sacrifice as well! They need to be prepared for you to work harder than you’ve ever worked before--AND without a steady paycheck. Without the support of those who love you, you will never succeed.

Capture Fashion in Photography

A

lot of clothing designs include many little details. A good photographer will find interesting details and make them a key part of the photo.

W

hen photographing a model, it is important to use good perspective so the photo is interesting to look at and you can even highlight a key piece in the outfit.

S

ometimes the best part of a clothing item is how it forms to the body or flows in the wind. Creating movement by jumping, running, or twirling, is a way to capture fashion and draw attention to the photo.

C

reating shadow and lighting in a fashion photograph will create an interesting contrast in the clothing. This will help make certain pieces stand out.

How to Piece Vintage and Modern Clothing

I

t is not easy to incourprate vintage pieces into such a modern time period. New styles come out each season and this year we have changed our style into what is known as a boho chic look. The year before we focused on color more than the actual look itself. but his winter, vintage style should be added to our modern style. One should focus on how to piece new and old items together without looking like you just threw something together.

belt that you can pair with several of you’re new looks. Research what excatly is vintage. Consider buying from vintage inspired designers or stores. If you do not know where to find any vintage clothing consider looking through thrift stores or look online for any vintage stores. Modcloth, Anthropologie, or your local boutiques are good places to start you’re hunt for vintage pieces

You dont want to change your whole entire look, so focus on little things that you can add easly. Start off with a vintage cardigan, blouse, or chic vintage dress. From there look for a cute flowy skirt or a dark washed skinny jean that you can pair with one of the tops or skirts you have laid out. It’s important to pull the whole look together with accesories. Head to Forever 21 or Charlotte Russe where they have long, chunky necklaces, big earrings and bracelets. The one thing to remember when you are trying to pull off this fun and trendy look is to remember to pick out things that fit the look and the budget. Do not splurge on a hat that you will only wear a couple of times. Instead pick a small

How to Decorate Your Boutique for the Season a t and 99 at n e c s . ious y $10 Delic ice , onl ! .com t pr e a l e d r g n eeca Yank

T

he décor of a boutique is not just mannequins and clothing; it is, in fact, a marketing exercise. Your décor should pull customers into the store and make them feel welcome. When deciding on décor for a specific season, one should consider using colors and textiles that are understandable but understated. No one wants to walk into a store with corny hanging decorations that will hit them in the head. Here are a few ideas to set the mood of the season in your in-style boutique.

1 2

Put up new artwork.

Most boutiques have a color scheme throughout that sets the mood of the store. Although you can’t change the colors of the boutique each season, the artwork throughout can make customers feel in the season while shopping at your store.

Have candy for the season.

It’s the extra touches that make a customer feel welcome. If you put a bowl of, let’s say, chocolate candies, for winter, customers would feel more at home. Chocolate makes everyone in a better mood.

Here’s a good example of a window disply that is unique, interesting, tasteful, and in season!

3 4 5

Play up the gift giving.

Customers will spend more if they get the idea of finding gifts for their friends. Place a wintery colored, blue and white, not green and red, gift box in the window display. Looks cute with dressed mannequins and makes customers spend more. (score!)

Include winter items in your merchandise.

No one is going to buy a bikini in winter, so an easy way to update your boutique is through your merchandise. You might think, well duh. Good. Customers will start feeling the in the season when they shop at your boutique. Awesome!

Have seasonal scents.

If a store smells nice, more people want to be there. So make your boutique smell like the season with a candle or air freshener. Try pumpkin spice for fall and cinnamon or other strong spices for winter.

How to dress a Table for Dinner Guests

W

hen decorating a table for the season, it is important to use eye catching elements. The first step is to determine if you are decorating for a formal dinner or something more casual. If you are decorating for a formal event, the second step is to choose some beautiful glassware that your guests will feel special eating off of. After placing the spoons, forks, and plates on top of the crisp clean tablecloth, your table will have an elegant look already. During the holiday season, you could place a colorful or neutral cloth napkin on the plate depending on the setting. If you do not use a pop of color with the napkins, it is important to have a color in the centerpiece to focus on. Some tips from the best about a good centerpiece are to have a dramatic tall centerpiece for show and a short one to add depth, and to insert a pop of color or interesting vintage objects. Follow these tips and expect your guests to be amazed!
