Machine cross sections

Two-for-one twisting Two-for-one twisting combines two or more single yarn strands by twisting them into one thread. The yarn is twisted twice with one turn of the spindle. The yarn gets its first twist (1) between the yarn brake and the exit on the spindle rotor. It gets its second twist (2) in the yarn balloon between the spindle rotor and the yarn balloon guide.

eco drive concept with . . .

eco drive concept The new eco drive concept makes it possible to operate

up to 288 spindles per machine using a tangential belt. Depending on the power requirement and number of

spindles, either one or two drive motors can be used per machine. With the electronically controlled frequency inverters, the spindle speed, twist turns and package building can be set according to customer specifications. There is no need to mechanically change the motor belt pulley, which reduces the machine set-up time. This is especially useful to the customer when processing small batches. The eco drive concept guarantees low energy consump-

tion, optimum spindle synchronization and starting/ stopping the machine with maximum twist consistency in the twisted yarn. Yarn pollution is avoided by separation of the textile area from the spindle drive area. The new belt cover not only provides a smooth closed machine surface to reduce pollution, but also effectively reduces the amount of noise emitted by the twisting machine.

Mechanical head stock A mechanical drive section with a 6" traverse guide cam can also be selected as the drive (grey front coulor). Traverse variation is available as an option.

. . . servo drives and central user terminal

Servo drive The new electronic servo drives have been designed for the highest demands. Twist turns can be set to any level. Package performance, traverse and traverse variation can be set individually. Electronically controlled anti-patterning device. Oil-free, low-maintenance construction.

Take-up packages Packages of 6“ – and, with a spindle gauge of 296 mm, also of 8“ – can be produced in cylindrical and conical cross-wound formats with a conicity of 3°30‘, 4°20‘ and 5°57‘.

User terminal The new terminal for machines with a servo drive and inverter main drive makes it possible to archive up to 1000 separate batch data sets and, if needed, to activate them quickly. The following data is considered: Parameters for spindle speed reduction at beginning /

ending of the bobbin travel Twist turns and twist direction Crossing angle Winding traverse length Thread reserve length and position Yarn material Parameters for package form and density Notepad function for saving the mechanical setting

Energy efficiency with eco spindles

The two-for-one twisting spindle is the heart of the machine. Here, the energy requirement and grade of the produced twisted yarn are decisive. The e-save spindle family includes the following spindle types: VTS-07 / -07-0 / -07-0 eco VTS-08 / -08-0 / -08-0 eco VTS-09 / -09-0 / -09-0 eco VTS-10-0 Advantages of these spindle types: eco spindles generate a new yarn balloon geometry and save up to 40% in energy costs compared to conventional spindles Optimised yarn guidance, thanks to high-grade, wearresistant surface finish Large feed packages, thanks to optimised spindle pot design Minimal vibrations, thanks to damped spindle pot mounting Automatic pot bottom cleaning by specially directed airflow Funnel-shaped, self-cleaning yarn channel in the spindle rotor Reserve disc with special wear-resistant surface finish Air channel for Volcojet – the pneumatic threading system for quick and easy threading without additional manual steps Yarn brake easily adjustable to all yarn qualities Textile contact area separated from drive area

Feed packages of the e-save spindle family Assembly-wound feed packages of 6", 7" or 8", and also single-end feed packages of 2 x 31/4" and 2 x 4" traverse, can be used in the normal-height machine. With the lowered version, 10“ packages as well as various 2x6" packages can be used.

Optional handling optimisation . . .

Minimum set-up times, thanks to central adjustment of the balloon thread guide and deflection roller The balloon thread guide can be centrally set to a uniform height for optimised energy consumption. Discrepancies in the balloon thread guide heights are avoided. Especially with the eco spindles, the full energy-savings potential is best achieved when using the central adjustment.

The quality of the generated cross-wound packages depends to a large extent on the take-up tension. This is the determining factor for package density. The yarn deflection rollers used to influence the take-up tension can be centrally adjusted to a uniform position.

Volcojet The Volcojet has a proven track record as the two-for-one twister spindle threading system. Yarn threading times are significantly reduced. Operating errors can be ruled out with Volcojet. This is due to the compulsory mode of operation: Actuating the foot pedal brakes the spindle rotor. As the pedal is pressed down further, compressed air is released, producing negative pressure in the yarn brake and opening the yarn channel. The yarn is sucked through the yarn channel and emerges at the opening of the reserve disc. It is then carried by the directed airstream up and around the spindle pot, where it can be easily grasped by the operator. Releasing the brake pedal back to the stop position completes the threading operation and the yarn brake automatically returns to its operating position. Rapid and faultless threading is guaranteed every time.

CompactTwister

9

. . . for shortening . . .

Thread reserve The automatic transfer-tail device enables a centrally adjustable transfer-tail length to be properly secured and bound. During block doffing, an individual transfer-tail and yarn length can be chosen using the servo traversing mechanism.

Package and tube deposits Deposits and storage facilities for packages and empty tubes are available in various configurations in order to work with the fewest possible handling steps, depending on the requirements.

Automatic yarn stop feeler lock In case of machine stoppage or power failure, the yarn stop feelers are automatically locked in their working positions. This prevents the yarn stop feelers from dropping when the machine is stopped. Restarting the machine, the yarn stop feelers are released after a time delay to avoid yarn breaks. The automatic yarn stop feeler lock is therefore important for ensuring the quality of the twisted yarn. To reload the spindle, each individual yarn stop feeler can be magnetically fixed to the centre wall.

. . . the set-up times.

Add-on balloon limiter With suitable yarns, a substantial reduction in energy consumption and an increase in productivity can be achieved with additional balloon limiters.

When processing natural fibres or using the Constant Lubritwist lubrication system, the add-on balloon limiter can be retrofitted for spindles with free yarn balloon. This extends the yarn count range so that coarser yarns can also be twisted.

2 x 6" direct feeds with TwinPack This proven device for processing 2 x 6" direct feeds with 2 spindle pots provides a number of advantages, in addition to eliminating the assembly-wound process. Separate inlet of feed yarns with the same inlet angle Uniform unwinding tension No yarn remnants on the feed packages Process safety by means of automatic spindle stop Easy handling, especially during the threading operation A short balloon limiter protects against yarn pollution Use for tube or cone types 4°20' and 5°57', including

bullnose The lower pot can be used separately for 8" feeds.

Thus, the balloon tension, and therefore the energy requirement, are reduced.

Alternative feedings for lowered machines Volkmann continues to provide the tested and proven 2 x 6" direct feed in a single spindle pot, which has a number of advantages, in addition to eliminating the assemblywound process. Optional use of the Constant Lubritwist system for yarn

lubrication Use of both cylindrical and conical tube formats The spindle pot allows assembly-wound feed packages

with up to 10" traverse to be used, which increases its flexibility

Twisted yarn and package quality

New take-up geometry The extended take-up triangle offers a more uniform twisted yarn quality and homogeneous package building. The yarn grade is positively influenced by the new geometry. This results in optimized CV values for the twisted yarn. By reducing the edge tension, the take-up package edges become softer and the package as a whole is more homogeneous, which is beneficial for different applications. What's tried-and-tested and what's new Elements which have proven themselves a hundred thousand times over, such as the overfeed discs, the rotating transfer-tail rod, the traverse guide and the friction roller, have been used in the new geometry so that no compromises are made between durability and yarn grade. The newly designed cover plate has the proven deposits.

Cradle Yarn packages can be cross-wound up to a max. diameter of 300 mm. Particularly even package building Optimised centering disc clip connection and protection against yarn laps Stable, functional design

Package lift-off device (Option) Following a time delay, the pneumatic package lift-off device takes the completed package off the drive drum, avoiding any unnecessary rubbing on the package surface. After the package is lifted, it is clearly visible along the entire side of the machine. Cradle load relief system (Option) In conjunction with large wrap-around angles on the overfeed unit, a pneumatic cradle load relief system with central adjustment is used to produce soft-edge packages suitable for dyeing.
