Top favourites at ITMA Barcelona 2011 Innovations from Oerlikon Schlafhorst The ITMA 2011 in Barcelona proved an inspiration for specialists and visitors. True to its motto ”Master the art of innovation”, it presented the textile industry with many impressive new products. Oerlikon Schlafhorst presented the Autocoro 8, its revolutionary new rotor spinning machine. This was a highlight of the exhibition in the spinning sector, underlining once more the company's technological and market leadership in short-staple spinning machines. Revolutionary innovations come from Oerlikon Schlafhorst. Facts and figures The exhibition organizers welcomed more than 100,000 visitors from 138 countries to the ITMA in Barcelona. The feedback from all 1,350 exhibitors from 45 countries was very positive. All their responses indicated that there is still a great willingness to innovate and invest in the textile and garment industry, and the latest technologies and machinery are in high demand. At the entrance to the exhibition site, “Fira de Barcelona Gran Via“, an illuminated banner showed visitors the way to Oerlikon Textile’s joint booth.

Autocoro 8 with a rotor speed of 200,000 rpm – the sensation on day one of the exhibition Visitors flocked to the Oerlikon Schlafhorst booth with its Autocoro 8, BD 448, Autoconer X5 and Zinser ring spinning technology products that acted as a magnet for the public. The Oerlikon Schlafhorst team surprised all visitors with a particular sensation on the morning of the first day of the exhibition: a large, illuminated display on the new Autocoro 8 revealed its current rotor speed as 200,000 rpm. A glimpse of the new Autocoro 8 automatic rotor spinning machine quickened the heart rate of all visitors to the exhibition. Gerard Küsters, head of Oerlikon Schlafhorst, said “This new technology is the biggest innovation in rotor spinning in the last 30 years. It has been possible to spin a yarn at a rotor speed of 200,000 rpm for the first time. This breakthrough is thanks to the single-drive
technology in the Autocoro 8, which will usher in a new era in rotor spinning. I am filled with pride to think that Oerlikon Schlafhorst is setting this new milestone as a technological leader in rotor spinning.” On the Autocoro 8, every spinning position is autonomous and individually automated. This new rotor spinning machine offers up to 25% more productivity and a level of flexibility that far surpasses all previous possibilities. It paves the way for savings on production costs that will benefit spinning mills all over the world.

Ring spinning technology of the future – spinning from an economically efficient perspective “Lower production costs and greater process reliability are key topics for the future in ring spinning too," said Gerard Küsters. Zinser compact spinning technology sets the benchmark for quality and economic efficiency. Spinning costs can be reduced with the Zinser 351 Impact FX by the specific selection of raw materials. Extremely interesting technical discussions about the variety of ring spinning technology and about new application areas in hitherto unusual textile applications (e.g. ultra-fine wool compact yarns in the outdoor and sports clothing field) showed the enthusiasm of the “textile buffs” for future-proof innovations. Oerlikon Schlafhorst was also the only supplier offering excellent opportunities for the highest possible degree of automation in the ring spinning mill. “I can assemble the material flow configuration for my spinning mill individually and put my trust in the process competence of one manufacturer,” commented one spinning mill manager. Live transmissions via webcam from a ring spinning mill in Turkey and one in Mexico underlined the plant expertise.

Autoconer X5 – innovative, visionary winding technology In PreciFX, customers are investing in the winding technology of the future, but the system has already demonstrated its practicality and performance in many markets and applications. “The keen interest in the winding variety, references and practical results presented prove to us that PreciFX constitutes the solution for the multifaceted challenges facing our customers: maximum freedom for maximum efficiency and quality in the winding process,” adds Gerard Küsters. For the Autoconer X5, the complete product spectrum for rewinding packages was shown fully functioning for the first time. Great interest in the various machine concepts was clearly perceptible in many discussions. The Autoconer X5, type D machine was also a continuing favourite on all exhibition days with its new material flow, powerful new X-Change doffer and wide range of interesting package presentations. The new machine concepts and intelligent drive and automation technologies of Oerlikon Schlafhorst open up further potential for spinning mills in respect of economic viability and cost efficiency.

A favourable opportunity seized Stimulating interest, initiating projects, signing contracts Many customers took advantage of the ITMA 2011 in Barcelona to set the wheels in motion for the realization of key projects. “We have the opportunity here to view the entire product spectrum of Oerlikon Schlafhorst and obtain detailed explanations of the new technical advances and benefits from the experts,” interested customers commented. Managing directors, spinning and winding mill managers and technicians often visited as a group to make purchasing decisions. “We were able to clarify outstanding details of the contract directly with the sales engineers and thus use the ITMA to seal our future investments.” The extremely positive mood of the exhibition and the professional, highly engaged approach of the Oerlikon Schlafhorst staff reflected their complete enthusiasm and passion for the new products. Many customers spoke animatedly about the innovations, outlining even new applications quickly and swiftly sounding out the benefits for their spinning mill.
Spinnerei Feldkirch, Austria: The delegation showed particular interest in the different application areas of PreciFX (package samples were made available for the exhibition) to rate their own experiences and discuss new areas for use.
Sanko Group, Turkey:
Kasar & Dual Tekstil Sanayii A. Ş., Turkey:
The high-level delegation (in the picture: Sanko management with the business and marketing managers of Oerlikon Schlafhorst and the Erler agency) came to find out about innovations in the spinning sector. The Autocoro 8 aroused special interest. “To consolidate our leading position as the biggest yarn producer in Turkey, investment in the latest technology goes without saying,” said the CEO.
Once the final detailed questions had been cleared up, there were no obstacles to the conclusion of a major ring spinning project. A completely new ring spinning plant for high-grade compact yarns will thus be installed in the customer's premises from the first quarter of 2012 onwards. The scope of supply includes speed frames along with transport automation for the speed frame bobbins and 33,600 Zinser 351 Impact FX spindles in a linked system with Autoconer X5 winding machines.

Beyteks Textile Industry, Turkey:
CFT, Italy:
Adil Menderes, the technical general director of Beyteks, engaged in in-depth discussions with the CEO Gerard Küsters about innovations in rotor and ring spinning. He was particularly impressed by the pioneering technology of the Autocoro 8. A photo in front of the display showing the impressive rotor speed of 200,000 rpm was essential. The expansion of his existing Oerlikon Schlafhorst installations is a firm consideration.
CFT is one of the first Autocoro 8 customers and is taken with its flexibility and the interesting possibilities on offer, e.g. even in the fancy yarn sphere. CFT has already placed orders with Oerlikon Schlafhorst for further machines, therefore.
Linz Textil, Austria
FilManMade Group, Italy:
Although the decision to purchase the Autocoro 8 had already been made and the first machine went into production in the Landeck mill shortly after the ITMA, the management of Linz Textil wasn’t going to be denied the opportunity to visit the innovation exhibition ITMA in Barcelona. As an Oerlikon Schlafhorst customer of long standing, Linz's managers learned about the innovations across the entire product range of Oerlikon Schlafhorst so as to operate with state-ofthe-art spinning technology in the future too.
The significance of the technical innovations for the company’s own applications was investigated for investment in new ring spinning projects, including in the plant in Turkey. The Autocoro 8 naturally also plays an outstanding role in the modernization of the rotor spinning mill.

For the many visitors from South America in particular, the exhibition in Barcelona was a superb opportunity to link the latest technology to a visit to the homeland of their forefathers. Plenty of customers made use of this. They also took advantage of the chance to view the Autocoro 8 live in the Spanish spinning mill Intercot S.A. not far from Barcelona, and to find out about this outstanding rotor spinning technology in practice.
In spite of the current difficult situation, very many customers also travelled from Syria, Egypt and the Middle East, because interest and the readiness to invest in the textile sector show no signs of flagging. Ring spinning projects were concluded and new investment made in the Autocoro 8. In the picture, Thomas Kneissl, sales engineer responsible for the region, explains the rewinding machines of the Autoconer X5 product family to interested customers.

The upturn in the textile industry in Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan and Ukraine and the increased need for investment in modern machinery became clear to responsible sales engineer Karl-Heinz Molch in many in-depth discussions and rounds of negotiation.
Since as always the ITMA is the crucial exhibition in Europe when it comes to future technology in the textile industry, a large number of visitors from Asia and China were happy to make the long journey. The absolute highlight was the Autocoro 8, and the comments of the visitors convey their enthusiasm for this revolutionary rotor spinning technology. Bitratex (Indonesia): “We’ve been waiting years for a machine like this!” Ramatex (Malaysia): “Sheer genius, super ideas, we’d like to have a machine like this.” But the Zinser ring spinning technology was a focal point for many too and the regional manager responsible for the region, Henri Wiggers, conducted discussions regarding future projects and investments (including Lotus Indah, Indah Jaya).
The ITMA in Europe was a highlight for Chinese customers also. Projects were concluded in the ring spinning and rotor spinning sectors, and fundamental discussion took place regarding the trends in the textile industry. Many delegations from industrial federations and associations were also hosted.

The strong, high-capacity textile industries of India, Bangladesh and Pakistan were likewise in evidence with well-known customers, high-ranking visitors and various industrial associations and trade representations welcomed. The large order placed by the Noman Group from Bangladesh for the Autocoro 8 is an indication that innovative spinning technology is setting the trend even in this region. Automation solutions in the ring spinning mill and for the Autoconer X5 were hot topics, because Oerlikon Schlafhorst is meeting precisely the current requirements of these markets with these automation concepts.
Many professors use the ITMA to experience state-of-the-art spinning technology live with their students and graduates. The “users of tomorrow” in particular are inspired by forward-looking concepts.

Noman Group The biggest textile manufacturer in Bangladesh invests in the highly productive Autocoro 8 In Bangladesh’s textile industry, the signs are pointing to growth. The majority of textiles and garments produced in Bangladesh are destined for export, with most going to the USA and the EU. The biggest textile enterprise in Bangladesh is the Noman Group, comprising over 21 companies employing 50,000 people. It has annual sales of US$ 920 million, half of which derive from exports. Customers of the Noman Group include globally familiar names such as H&M, M&S, IKEA and leading discount stores like Wal-Mart, Asda, Carrefour, Aldi, Lidl and JYSK. Noman is the biggest producer of home textiles in Asia. 36 million bedding sets and 2 million window textiles leave the plants around Dhaka, as do millions of towels and high-grade table textiles. Most of the textiles are made from cotton and blended cotton yarns. They are spun on over 400,000 ring spinning spindles and 7,000 open end rotors and then processed further on more than 3,500 airjet looms. More than 240 million metres of woven fabric are produced each year by the Noman companies.
