Reduce spinning costs with the Zinser 351 Impact FX Zinser compact spinning sets the benchmark for efficiency Globally established, precisely adjustable, reliable compaction through self-cleaning technology – this is what Zinser compact spinning is renowned for. With the Zinser 351 Impact FX compact spinning machines you spin precisely the compact quality you need, reliably and securely. In addition to the consistent top quality of Zinser compact yarns and the flexibility of the process with regard to raw materials and yarn counts, this compact spinning technology is also the most cost-effective in the market. Spinning costs can be reduced through the superior economic efficiency of the Zinser 351 Impact FX compact spinning machine: • • •

due to the system due to the appropriate machine specification due to maximum raw material utilization

Lower spinning costs are an inherent part of the system The intelligent, self-cleaning system automatically produces a constant compact quality without the need for extra personnel. The Zinser 351 Impact FX saves labourintensive monitoring, inspection rounds and production losses due to cleaning intervals and shutdowns to clean the machine. The self-cleaning milling effect of the Impact FX compact apron is an integral quality guarantee, producing a high degree of resistance to dirt. Impact FX is also immune to climatic influences as a result. Thanks to its system, the Impact FX can also process lower-quality raw materials and short fibres extremely well without blocking up. Due to the milling effect at the deflection point of the apron, the apertures in the apron change their diameter constantly. Dirt particles and fibre fragments cannot lodge in the holes. The optimized aerodynamics of the Impact FX cause the air to stream in a straight line through the system and this additionally

eliminates the risk of a potential blockage. No blockage: no cleaning required, no machine downtimes and no labour tied up. No blockage: no creeping decline in quality, but reliable, constant compact quality automatically, along with increased production and staff savings. The “unblockable” apron and the optimized aerodynamics make the self-cleaning compact spinning technology of the Impact FX unique worldwide. Compared with other systems, scarcely any hardware handling is required either. Machine elements do not have to be adjusted along the machine. Identical assemblies for all machine lengths mean there is no danger of a mix-up and eliminate handling errors. Spinning costs are reduced in respect of the outlay on logistics and operators. Lower spinning costs through the appropriate machine specification Super-long machines are increasingly in demand for the worldwide high-volume market. The longest and most economical compact spinning machine, the Zinser 351

The most economical compact spinning technology on the market – the Zinser 351 Impact FX with max. 1,680 spindles per machine.

Impact FX with 1,680 spindles, allows top speeds and low yarn break rates thanks to the sensor-controlled drive technology. Consistency in the yarn quality is guaranteed from spindle to spindle. With the separate Impact FX vacuum unit the full compact power is always available. The appropriate compact vacuum is set centrally at the EasySpin touchscreen. The sensor control loop keeps the compact power precisely at the selected setpoint. In this way the Impact FX technology always guarantees full compact power, even with 1,680 spindles. This means compact spinning at maximum efficiency with optimum space utilization. Lower spinning costs through maximum utilization of raw materials The Zinser Impact FX compact spinning technology has the greatest possible application range and gets the very best out of any raw material. The compacting zone and compact vacuum can be adjusted precisely to different raw materials and fibres. The settings are centrally managed here via the EasySpin touchscreen. All yarn counts from

denim to fine yarn are possible. With the Zinser 351 Impact FX, you have complete freedom in terms of the yarn characteristics of your compact yarns. The Zinser 351 Impact FX makes it possible to get the greatest possible utilization of the raw material through adjustable compacting. The spinning limit for each raw material can be raised, permitting better utilization of the fibre substance. The running properties of the yarn are improved as a result and you achieve higher productivity compared with standard yarns. Even cotton qualities with a reduced noil component and higher short fibre component give good yarn values – with significant raw material savings. Depending on the system, Impact FX is able to process short fibres extremely well. You can always react quickly to variations in the raw material with the Zinser 351 Impact FX.

in the yarn with reduced twisting. A 10% reduction in twist and hence an increase in productivity for the same raw materials as opposed to classic ring spinning are perfectly normal values that are achieved in practice. Superior economic efficiency The market share of compact yarns is constantly growing. Gain an edge over the competition with the world’s only selfcleaning compact spinning technology. Produce custom compact yarns on the Zinser 351 Impact FX with maximum raw material utilization – automatic reliability without additional manpower requirements on up to 1,680 spindles.

In addition to maximum utilization of the raw material, the spinning costs can be reduced due to a reduction in the amount of twisting in compact spinning. The quality benefits of compact spinning technology make it possible to achieve the same strength values

Autocoro 8 More productivity when spinning large orders Autumn 2011, ITMA Barcelona: the Autocoro 8 revolutionizes rotor spinning. And the visitor magnet at the ITMA 2011 is hot. Now, a few months after its market launch, more than 150 machines are bringing a gleam to the eyes of spinning plant managers. The installations across the globe prove that the Autocoro 8 keeps its promises and guarantees a continuous high level of productivity. On the Autocoro 8, piecing is fully integrated into the spinning unit. The machine rectifies production stoppages due to yarn breaks and clearer interventions instantly. There are no waiting times as with centrally driven rotor spinning machines. Another plus factor for productivity is granted by the lot-changing system on the Autocoro 8. Lot changes, the classic productivity killer on previous rotor spinning machines, are performed by the Autocoro 8 while it is in full production. It changes lots in a fluid motion; one lot follows another seamlessly, without tedious and unproductive lot completion and run-up of the new lot. The same goes for the production of test packages. They are simply integrated into ongoing production and produced along the way, as it were, ensuring maximum productivity. But how do spinning mills that virtually never carry out a lot change and produce almost all year round without a single stoppage benefit from the higher productivity of the Autocoro 8? These yarn manufacturers are already pushing the possibilities of machines with conventional belt drive technology to such an extent that further productivity advantages scarcely seem possible. The rotor speed for fine weaving

and knitting yarns cannot be increased substantially, for example, since machines with rotors with a Twin-Disc bearing reach their technical limits at 150,000 rpm. And like a car that is constantly driven at full throttle, the risk of wear increases at the technical borderline on rotor spinning machines too. The new Autocoro 8 is designed for rotor speeds of up to 200,000 rpm, thus offering much higher technical security. The result is that spinning mills which produce at an extremely high level of productivity on young machines with belt drives increase the rotor speed by up to another 10% on the Autocoro 8. And the best thing about it is that they achieve this advance in productivity without compromising on yarn quality. In effect, they get higher productivity at a flat rate. A further advantage for spinning mills that intend to produce large lots that are identical over several months is the high tolerance of the Autocoro 8 with regard to raw materials of varying quality. Whether the yarn breaks are frequent or infrequent, or the yarn clearer setting is very keen or more moderate, the Autocoro 8 with the QuickStarter can rectify up to 12 stoppages at once, up to 6 times more than on machines with belt drives. This guarantees extremely high efficiency ratings and ensures that a high level of productivity can be scheduled in the long term.

Filling function for PreciFX Cut transport and logistics costs with a new package design Why waste valuable cargo space? In future you can transport more yarn in the space that is otherwise just taken up by empty air. It’s quite simple with the new package design, thanks to the special “filling” function of PreciFX Expert. Even if the package design looks unusual at first glance, it can ultimately lead to savings in logistics costs. The function is ideal for tapered package formats, with the greatest impact on the tapered format 5°57‘. Without exceeding the stipulated large external diameter mostly dictated as the limiting size by packaging formats, you can wind up to 10% more yarn onto the package depending on the setting. The geometry is close to that of a cylindrical package, thus minimizing the air-filled space that arises when transporting tapered packages on pallets/cardboard packaging.

Economic advantage: a reduction in logistics and handling costs The economic advantage lies in the fact that more weight, i.e. more yarn, can be shipped per packaging unit. The number of packages that fit on a caseliner, for example, remains the same, because the external diameter is unchanged; but less empty space is transported in future. More yarn can be shipped per packing unit, container and truckload, reducing transport costs overall. In addition to a reduction in logistics costs, the amount of handling in downstream processing is reduced too: 10% more on the package means 10% less package handling in the knitting mill, the weaving mill and in warping, for instance.

How does it work? Use the special filling function of PreciFX Expert. Once the “normal” package build is complete, yarn is wound on (“filled in”) in addition in the traverse area of the smaller diameter with a shorter displacement traverse, without exceeding the large package diameter that forms the limit. The unwinding behaviour of these packages is trouble-free, because the first outer layers wound on additionally in particular swing off with a shorter traverse. A residual taper is otherwise still present, preventing possible flank friction. As shown in the picture, minimal rounding of the flanks is wound in addition in the area of the small diameter. This avoids having hard, “sharp-edged” flanks, which are easily damaged during transportation and are associated with displaced yarn layers and thus yarn breaks and flank friction in this area.

Classic and yet modern Economical processing of mule cops with the Autoconer X5, type D machine The mule cop spinning process is a traditional woolen yarn spinning process. Its typical process sequence limits productivity compared with modern, highly productive spinning methods (draft and twist insertion on the one hand and winding on the other take place consecutively). Nevertheless, it is still used in interesting, attractive applications in the wide range of high-productivity textile processes, thanks to its unique characteristics: • • • •

Extremely gentle handling of the fibres Production of yarns with a very high level of uniformity Production of yarns with very low twist values Production of different lot sizes, even the smallest lots of 40-50 kg

The fibres spun are high-value, exclusive fibres such as cashmere, angora, fine and ultra-fine wool fibres and blends of these (including blends with silk), primarily in the count range Nm 10-Nm 40 but also up to very fine grades in the range of 100 Nm. The yarns are used for upmarket applications, even in very small batch sizes, including as woolen yarns for exclusive knitwear or woven garments for ladies' and men's outerwear, or as high-quality blankets or functional clothing.

Oerlikon Schlafhorst offers the Autoconer X5, type D machine for automatic downstream processing of mule cop yarns. After being transferred securely to the specially adapted Caddies on the flat circular conveyor, the cops are readied gently and automatically in the central processing unit. They are then supplied to the winding units for the winding process. The winding parameters can be adapted individually to the requirements of the mule cop yarns. The interplay of all the units and control loops used, such as Autotense FX, Ecopack FX, the waxing module, yarn clearer and upper yarn sensor and the chosen displacement system of drum or PreciFX, permits the package formats and attributes required for the respective downstream processing to be produced flexibly and in a manner that protects the yarn. Secure, inconspicuous yarn joints are produced by the thermosplicer. It makes no difference whether small or large quantities have to be processed. Both the material flow concept with its individual feed change strategies and the universal doffer X-Change with Multi-tube handling and automatic

wind-on following a lot change are optimally prepared for these. Not a single gram too much of these valuable mule cop yarns is lost as waste; electronic yarn clearing, short, sensor-monitored piecing cycles and precise length measurement ensure maximum utilization of the yarn. The Autoconer X5 is the ideal complement to this traditional spinning process and provides an upgrade with regard to automation, flexibility, quality and productivity.

Autocoro 8 in the USA PCCA Announces Denim Mill Modernization Project Plains Cotton Cooperative Association (PCCA), Lubbock, Texas announced the beginning of a modernization project at its American Cotton Growers (ACG) denim mill at Littlefield, Texas. New state-of-the art spinning frames are being installed that will greatly increase production speed and flexibility. ACG is one of the largest denim manufacturers in the United States, with capacity to produce 36 million linear yards annually. Phase one of the project will begin in early April with the arrival of the first of three Oerlikon Schlafhorst Autocoro 8 rotor spinning frames that contain 480 rotors each, according to PCCA Vice President of Textile Manufacturing Bryan Gregory. “These new spinning frames will replace half of ACG’s current rotor spinning capacity with much higher manufacturing efficiencies,” said Gregory. The technology is based on an innovative machine concept that allows each spinning position to be autonomous and individually automated. “We will be able to manufacture up to five different yarn counts simultaneously on each new spinning frame due to singledrive technology,” Gregory added. “We can change these continuously with full production in progress, and this will allow us to better meet our customers’ needs as they respond to changes in the denim apparel market. This is because with this new equipment, start-up takes minutes, not hours, to reach full production.”

Develop contacts, find out about new products Oerlikon Schlafhorst trade show presentations 2012 Following the terrific response of our customers worldwide to the ITMA 2011, we are offering a number of opportunities once again in 2012 to find out about new products and innovations in the Oerlikon Schlafhorst product portfolio at first hand. The official show calendar for 2012 includes a large number of events at which Oerlikon Textile will present its innovations in a joint booth. The following are of particular significance this year: •

the ITM Texpo Eurasia in Istanbul/Turkey in April

the ITMA Asia + CITME in Shanghai/China in June

the India ITME in Mumbai/India in December

The trade fair year 2012 also includes several shows with a somewhat smaller exhibition area that are of great interest to trade visitors in markets such as Mexico, Pakistan, Bangladesh or Russia. For this reason Oerlikon Schlafhorst will send attractive exhibits and competent staff to these also. In addition, individual customer events will be staged in selected markets, to present new products in greater detail, discuss market trends and requirements with business partners and explore future developments and projects together. Speak to the sales engineers and/or service managers responsible for your market - they will be happy to provide you with the relevant details.
