The longest machine in its segment Benefit from maximum productivity with the BD 448: maximum take-up speeds of 165 m/min at each of its 448 spinning positions. The BD 448 is the only semi-automatic machine that realises such high productivity at full machine length. And because of the particularly narrow design of the spinning positions, you are producing with the greatest number of spinning positions per square metre – thus taking optimal advantage of the its 448 spinning space available to you.

Run-up: 90% faster No other rotor spinning machine of its class runs up faster than the BD 448 with Joint Spinning In technology (JSI). Compared to conventional piecing employing two operators, you are less dependent on personnel with the BD 448 because Joint Spinning In operates automatically. Digitally controlled synchronous piecing at all 448 spinning positions guarantees you piecing reliability of 95 percent. This means: Even with 448 spinning positions, the machine runs up in less than 10 minutes. Thanks to JSI your machine reaches its full output power – e.g. following a power failure – 90 percent faster.

Integral concept for energy efficiency

Innovative detailed solutions save energy up to 10% The suction system and the rotor drive consume the most energy in a rotor spinning machine. That is why Oerlikon Schlafhorst has developed new, more efficient design solutions for this purpose. The result: With smartly improved drive and control technology the BD 448 reduces its energy consumption by up to 10% compared to older BD generations.

Vacuum-optimised spinbox The rotor housing was equipped with even more effective sealing. Fluctuations and leakages in vacuum are prevented even more assiduously. EVA – better than ever Even EVA, the economical, electronically controlled vacuum system, was further improved: Thanks to automatic sieve cleaning which is also controlled electronically, the system has to regulate the vacuum less frequently. A remedy that contributes to additional energy savings.

Optimised labour utilisation

Time-saving design

Reduce your staff requirements The longer the machine is, the more efficiently you can deploy your staff. Key areas of activity like the removal section or the suction system “operate” up to 448 spinning positions on the BD 448. The operating cost per spinning position is reduced as a result. From the length point of view alone, you can cut staff costs by up to 7% as compared to a machine with 416 spinning positions, for instance.

Saving time – planning better The new design of the BD 448 makes operation and maintenance for your staff as easy as possible. All BD 448 control elements are conspicuously designed in yellow and thus are easily identifiable at first sight – for fast action. Even the spinning components can be easily accessed and replaced very quickly. Your advantage: Downtimes are reduced, the machine’s capacity utilisation is optimised. And your staff can operate more spinning positions.

Innovative signaling system

Reducing amount of work involved in cleaning by half The staff expenditure for cleaning the sieve in the suction system section is often considerable. Depending on raw material and yarn, around 750 man-hours can accrue here per machine and year. Not so in the case of the BD 448. An integrated slider removes accumulations of dirt from the sieve automatically and regularly. In this way, the machine operator only has to remove the dirt from the collecting container instead of cleaning the sieve manually as before. The amount of work in cleaning the sieve is thus reduced by half.

Fast action, more production If a spinning position is not producing, it is important to find the cause right away. With optical and acoustical signals, the BD 448 ensures active operator support in quickly finding the causes of production interruptions and thus more production.

08 BD 14 Zinser 448351

The new central indicator light and an alarm tone indicate necessary actions prominently and precisely: For instance, that the filter chambers have to be cleaned or the package removal conveyor belt is full. LEDs visible over a long distance indicate full packages or yarn breaks. This is very helpful, particularly as regards long machines.

Getting output at the touch of a button

Higher-performance software

Intelligent Drive System IDS

High speed and new functions The new generation of BD 448 software is measurably faster and higher performing. Because time is money – with the BD 448 you have everything in view more quickly and are optimising while in full operation. The BD 448 display now even shows specific information for each spinning position – e.g. for package change or for spinning position efficiencies so that the spinning process and the machine’s productivity can be optimised further.

Quick lot change while the machine is running The Intelligent Drive System (IDS) makes you faster and more independent. Common default settings for diverse raw materials and yarn counts make lot changes quick and easy. All settings are centrally configured on the input display, from the speed of the opening rollers and rotors through draft and yarn twist right up to spinning vacuum and trash suction. Changes in yarn count no longer require the change gears to be replaced. Your employees get every setting and all information with just three clicks. Easily comprehended pictograms make the menu guide exceptionally speedy.

Improved packages – at the touch of a button With E-cam, the electronically controlled yarn guide, you are producing custom packages at the touch of a button. Because now you are configuring the yarn guide’s settings which are crucial to quality on the central BD 448 control panel. As of now you are controlling the angle of wind, antipatterning, package traverse and take-up tension centrally. E-cam thus provides you with maximum performance and precision. An additional guarantor of quality: The winding head with optimised damping. It improves the package density and in doing so makes the BD 448 ideal for viscose yarns and yarns made of manmade fibres too.

The only one in its segment up to Ne 1 (Nm 1.7) The BD 448 supports all yarn counts – and as a result, opens up totally new options for you with regard to flexibility. It is the only machine in its segment that enables you to produce even coarse yarns up to Ne 1 (Nm 1.7) in proven and tested quality. And to this end, you do no have to modify anything, instead just implement a normal lot change and insert a few parts and spinning components in the machine, which are geared to coarse yarn requirements.

Trend-setting technologies for greater quality

Leading spinbox technology

Optimised piecing Optimised design of the ceramic feed

SDSI

Aerodynamically optimised spinbox The improved spinbox NSB 38 was equipped with a new, optimised seal. It guarantees constant spinning vacuum from the first to the 448th spinbox. All air-ducting components are designed to ensure optimal fibre orientation and quality. Centrifugal force and air flow collaborate optimally. Moreover, the BD 448’s air utilisation as a whole is controlled electronically with the aid of EVA. The result: You get consistently good yarn values with high spinning stability and productivity – even when spinning raw materials that are more difficult to process, e.g. extremely short-staple cotton grades or lowgrade noils.

18 BD 448

Latest generation piecing technology Piecing with the BD 448 – this is synonymous with a high success rate with high reproducibility, and this even for wool and wool-like fibres. Burmaster BM 2+ with digitally controlled SDSI technology (Single Drive Sliver Intake Technology) sees to it. The design and surface geometry of the ceramic sliver feed were optimised once again. In this way, an even better sliver feed was achieved – for even better piecings. And this without any compressed-air requirement whatsoever!

Yarn testing with Corolab Q

Fancynation fancy yarn system

Quality guarantor with triple effect With Corolab Q you have one of the best quality guards on board that the market has to offer. Its efficient technology monitors your yarns not only while spinning: While piecing it even scrutinises “stationary yarns” maximally close and in this way ensures the quality of your piecings – even when every spinning position is piecing at the same time: Joint Spinning In. On top of this, Corolab Q checks whether the sliver count corresponds precisely with your settings.

Fancy yarns: integrated and productive Quality without compromise – in the production of fancy yarns too. You digitally save up to 100 fancy compositions and 100 lots in your BD 448’s integrated Fancynation system. The electronically controlled Single Drive Sliver Intake (SDSI) implements the effect programmed per individual spinning position with perfectly precise yarn guidance. Even after a yarn break, spinning is continued with the right repeat. The reverse function of the stepper motor makes for particularly striking effects. And all of it more productively than with any other fancy yarn technology of this class: at every spinning position with maximum productivity of up to 150 m/min.
