Further, if you don’t receive your purchased item, you can contest the charge. Don’t lose receipts: Save all the receipts from your shopping expedition.You never know when you may need it. PORSCHE 918 SPYDER Thanks to its unique hybrid technology, the 918 Spyder is estimated to consume a mere three litres of fuel per 100km based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). Its V8 engine delivers more than 500hp, assisted by two electric motors with a total of at least 160KW (218 hp). To ensure a 918 Spyder’s exclusivity, the two-seater is limited to no more than 918 units. The design’s DNA is derived from the Carrera GT and Porsche 917 sports car as well as the RS Spyder and is very closely modelled on the 2010 concept car. Ask them for help. They will inspect the car and possibly test drive it, and even go through an inspection list if you give them one.

Customer Speak A first person account from Sunaina Ahluwalia, one of the members and the Media Coordinator for WGO, who was one satisfied customer at the end of it all. “Will I won’t I, will I won’t I gain weight if I was to eat this? This is the certainly one of, if not ‘the’ major thought on a woman’s mind, when she reaches out for anything edible. This is probably compounded if it is one of those absolutely delicious goodies, whose faintest of whiffs is enough for you to start feeling hungry. It could be bread, cookies cakes, or then, far, far worse like potato chips (French fries)! Now, I’m going to speak for myself and say, yes it a nightmare – waking up one morning, weighing myself and finding that I’ve gained a dreaded one kilo. Yet, I confess, I love all the above mentioned things and in particular, potato chips. So when I had the opportunity to be part of a Philips Airfryer demonstration along with a group of other lucky WGO members, I could feel that all my long suppressed ‘foodie’ dreams were now that much closer to becoming a reality and how! As we entered the showroom we were warmly welcomed by the Philips team and their managers and were seated comfortably. After a round of some snacks, we were shown a presentation on the ‘Air Fryer’, an interesting appliance that helps one cook

potato chips and wedges, chicken nuggets, and anything else that one would earlier consider to be in the realm of fried food, only without too much oil. This was followed by a question answer session where we got satisfactory answers to all our queries. And then came the actual demonstration, where the potato wedges were popped into the Air Fryer and a few minutes later, a delicious aroma tantalised our nostrils. They say ‘tasting is truly believing’ and we were really in for a very pleasant surprise when the cooked wedges were given to us. They tasted just like the real thing and possibly even better! The best part, of course, the realisation that all that we were eating was totally oil-free. A miracle that this Air Fryer had managed to accomplish. A round of similarly guilt-free chicken nuggets was followed by some freshly squeezed carrot and watermelon juice. The best was yet to come. As we said our thank-yous and goodbyes, we were handed a little goodie-bag each and we walked out of the MSE Philips showroom with a sated smile on our lips and a song in our hearts. Great shopping can also be found in some unexpected places, such as in Astana, Kazakhstan, the second coldest capital in the world. We pick a few destinations that will appeal to the shopaholic in you..

BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA Argentina has excellent leather, the soft almost-butteryto-the-touch kind of leather that feels fine to wear and fine to look at. Leather stores, leather shops, leather boutiques - they are all fronts for the factories. If they don't have what you want they are skilled in getting you to go to their nearest store or factory. The shopping mall has found its place in Buenos Aires. Patio Bullrich, in Recoleta, is probably the most exclusive and an afternoon’s activity itself. Galerias Pacifico, on the corner of Florida and Cordoba, is a three-storey mall quality clothes and sports stores. There is also excellent cashmere - sweaters, dresses, skirts, jackets. Antiques are another excellent buy in Argentina, and San Telmo is the most recognised center of antiques. Many of it's old mansions have been turned into antique shops, and on Sunday the square becomes an outdoor antique market. 58

TAIPEI CITY, TAIWAN Shopping venues in Taipei, Taiwan include department stores, malls, underground transit malls, night markets, and shopping districts. Technology and beauty products are two reasons why Taipei City has become an international shopping destination. For instance, Nova Electronics Mall is a mega complex filled with every sort of gadget imaginable – many of the models are not yet available overseas. International beauty brands such as Estée Lauder and Lancôme can be found at exceptionally low prices at the Uni-Hankyu department store. But then, it is the night markets that make Taipei lively. ASTANA, KAZAKHSTAN Don’t let the world’s second coldest capital tag deter you from visiting this place. Kazakhstan’s capital Astana is in the middle of a building boom largely financed by profiteers from the oil industry. Last year the upscale shopping mall Khan Shatyr opened, revealing a clever and distinct design in a 150m tall tent as a tribute to the country’s nomadic background. With mini-golf, concerts and a water park it always provides a pleasant shopping experience, despite the cold outside.


CASABLANCA, MOROCCO Visitors to Casablanca focus on designer clothing, accessories, beauty products and luxury items. But a visit to a local souk (indoor market) or to one of the many street markets is a must when shopping in Casablanca. Souks and street markets in Casablanca can be easily found at various locations across the city and suburbs. Craft ware, superb carpets and leather goods are generally good quality but make sure you are buying the real thing and not some cheap imitation made in the sweat shops of the Far East. Do visit the Morocco Mall, an architect’s delight. A shell-shaped shopping centre designed like a natural extension of the main Casablanca’s waterfront promenade, the imposing 200,000sqm Morocco Mall embraces more than 250 shops and restaurants, including the first Galeriés Lafayette store in Africa, a 1mn litre aquarium and a 400-seat IMAX cinema.

KUWAIT CITY, KUWAIT Kuwait is a modern country with everything from glitzy shopping malls to old ‘souks’ and Friday markets where culture and tradition abound. Sharq Souk Mall located in downtown Kuwait City is one of the largest modern malls, similar to an American mall, but with styles of the Middle East. For those of you with a burning desire to drop US$3000 on the lastest leather briefcase, Salhiya Center, behind the Meridian Hotel offers a wealth of designer stores in Kuwait's most exclusive mall. Soon to be added to the list is the spectacular Al Hamra mall, which is currently under construction, but will soon be a 400m-tall sculpted skyscraper carrying top notch luxury brands such as Hermès.

REYKJAVIK, ICELAND Laugavegur is the shopping street in the downtown area. In this popular shopping area of Reykjavik visitors find a large number of shops and craft studios. Skólavödustígur has also turned into a very hot shopping area. Several shops can be found selling outdoor wear and equipment, such as Skátabúdin at Snorrabraut 60. The Kringlan shopping mall in the new city centre of Reykjavik, is a shopping hub of social activity. Get some souvenirs from Íslandia, the popular store with Icelandic souvenirs. Authenticity is a huge issue now because of all the reproductions and knockoffs out there. An appraisal usually takes care of that. Check for stamps and signatures. A name on a piece makes a sizeable difference. All other things being equal, a signed piece will have more value than an unsigned one.
