All OESD designs are digitized with Isacord 40 wt. polyester thread as the top thread and in the bobbin. Refer to the thread chart for color specifications. Match bobbin thread color to the top thread.

Instructions Step 1 - Hoop For FSL structures, hoop one layer of OESD AquaMesh and one layer of OESD BadgeMaster. BadgeMaster contains more starch so, combined with the AquaMesh, the lace is more rigid. For other FSL, where a softer lace is desired, hoop two layers of AquaMesh.

Step 3 - Rinse Rinse remaining stabilizer out in warm running water. For stiffer lace and FSL structures, DO NOT rinse away all of the stabilizer. The lace should be just slightly tacky. For softer lace, rinse until all traces of the stabilizer are removed.

Step 2 - Embroider Stitch the design per the thread chart with matching thread in the bobbin at each color change. When complete, remove from the hoop and trim away excess stabilizer about 1/4”-1/2” from the stitching.

Step 4 - Dry Lay right side down flat on a nonstick surface, such as a cooling rack, parchment paper or Teflon sheet. This minimizes the tendency for the lace to curl. Let the pieces dry completely before proceeding with any assembly.

Helpful Tips

Step 5 - Press Once completely dry, press right side down on a OESD Perfect Embroidery Press Cloth. Step 6 – Assemble Structure Note: Specific assembly instructions for a design/collection may be found in the thread chart pdf following the individual design color charts. Lace must be COMPLETELY DRY before assembly. Wetting the buttonettes or eyelets to assemble is not recommended and may result in them stretching and coming “unbuttoned” when dry. Use a pair of OESD Alligator Clamps to insert the buttonettes into the eyelets. Insert the tip of the OESD Alligator Clamps into the eyelet, grasp the buttonette and pull through the eyelet. Alternatively, use a stiletto or tweezers to push the buttonette through the eyelet.

Limp Lace If the design is not stiff enough, press the lace pieces on the wrong side while applying spray starch. After ironing, spray again with starch and allow to dry completely. This will stiffen the lace pieces nicely and aid in construction. Or easily restiffen by diluting some stabilizer scraps in water (or use liquid starch) and dipping the item in the solution. Lay flat to dry. Eyelets Too Small If any of the eyelets appear closed or too small to penetrate with Alligator Clamps, they may be stretched by inserting the small end of the OESD Perfect Point and Press Tool into the eyelet opening and stretching it open wide enough to accommodate the OESD Alligator Clamps. Button Clips During the assembly process, some structures pull on buttonettes that have already been inserted and could pull them out altogether. Putting a Button Clip on the assembled buttonette will keep it in position during the assembly process. Remove the Button Clips when the assembly is complete. Alternative Construction Option In some cases, the buttonettes may be pulled to the inside of a project, instead of being visible on the outside. Insert the OESD Alligator Clamps through the eyelet from the wrong, or inside, of the lace and grasp the corresponding buttonette. Pull the buttonette to the wrong side of the lace. Pulling the buttonettes to the inside may cause stress on the ones already done. Button clips may be placed on the completed buttonette(s) to prevent them from pulling out of the eyelet during construction. EMBROIDERY STEP X Notes The freestanding applique instructions, included in the collection, are general instructions. For demonstration purposes, a sample design that best demonstrates the technique is shown. Fabric and thread requirements will vary by design, but the general technique is the same. All designs are stitched with matching thread in the top and bobbin. For other designs in the collection, use the applique templates as a guide to the dimensions of the various applique pieces. Note: Some thread colors in instructions have been changed or digitally enhanced for better visibility.

STEP 1X •

Hoop one layer of AquaMesh and one layer of BadgeMaster for all designs.

STEP 2X • •

Adhere two layers of StabilStick CutAway to the wrong side of all applique fabrics, to provide stiffness to the finished structure. Cut the prepared applique fabrics 1/4”-1/2” larger than the applique templates.

EMBROIDERY STEP 3X • •

Load selected design into the machine. Example design is

Thread the machine per the thread chart. Place hoop on the machine. Stitch Machine Step 1, Placement Stitch.

STEP 4X • • • •

Remove the hoop from the machine, but NOT the project from the hoop. Place the hoop on a flat surface. Place the prepared applique fabric, right side up, completely covering the placement stitch. Tape in place to secure.

STEP 5X • •

Return the hoop to the machine. Stitch Machine Step 2, Cut Line and Tackdown.

EMBROIDERY STEP 6X • • • •

Remove the hoop from the machine, but NOT the project from the hoop. Trim the excess fabric as close to the cut line stitching as possible. Note: If the outermost stitches (cut line) are cut, the inner stitches (tackdown) will still hold the applique in place. Tip: If the AquaMesh is cut or a hole is created while trimming the fabric, use OESD Expert Embroidery Tape WashAway as a patch.

STEP 7X • • • • • •

Return the hoop to the machine. Stitch Machine Step 3, Lace. Stitch the remaining machine steps, per thread chart. Match the bobbin thread to the upper thread. Note: Stitch all required designs. Some designs are freestanding lace only, fabric is not required. A general Freestanding Lace Guide is included for your reference. When the design is complete, remove the project from the hoop and trim the stabilizer 1/4”- 1/2” outside the design.

ASSEMBLY STEP 1X •

Using alligator clamps, attach the Front FSA (0C03801) to Side FSA (0C03802) together in a row by pulling the buttonettes through the corresponding eyelets. Use button clips to temporarily hold them in place.

STEP 2X •

Attach sections Rear FSA (0C03803) to Side FSA (0C03802) together in a row by pulling the buttonettes through the corresponding eyelets.

ASSEMBLY STEP 3X •

Attach the right side of the Front FSA (0C03801) and the Side FSA (0C03802) to the Rear FSA (0C03803) and the Side FSA (0C03802).

STEP 4 •

Stand joined pieces up and the right side of the Rear FSA (0C03803) and Side FSA (0C03802) to the left side of Front FSA (0C03801) and Side FSA (0C03802) making basic church structure. Set aside.

ASSEMBLY STEP 5X •

Using alligator clamps, attach sections Roof Left Side FSA (0C03804) to the Roof Right Side FSA (0C03805) together. Set aside

STEP 6 •

Fold the steeple into a box or square shape. Attach the two buttonettes to create the box.

ASSEMBLY STEP 7X • •

Using alligator clamp , attach the two buttonettes into the loop at the base of the cross. This will fold the roof into an angle. Attach the two corresponding buttonettes on the tip of the roof and to the back of the steeple.

STEP 8 •

Attach the steeple to the roof by attaching the four buttonettes into the roof unit.

ASSEMBLY STEP 9X •

Attach the roof/steeple to the building using the buttonettes as shown.

STEP 10 • •

Attach structure to the Bottom Base FSA (0C03807). Use alligator clamps connect the bottom buttonettes to the side walls.

ASSEMBLY FINISHING TOUCHES STEP X • •

Rinse each piece in warm running water until the design is only slightly sticky. Lay face down on a non-stick surface to dry. Parchment paper or a cooling rack work well. This prevents the piece from curling. Press each piece, right side down, on a Perfect Embroidery Press Cloth.

STEP 2 • • •

Using alligator clamps, attach Clock Front FSA (OC08905) to the Roof Extension FSA (OC08906) by pulling the buttonettes through the corresponding eyelets. Fold the side flap toward the back and attach to the upper inner buttonhole. Set the clock and roof unit aside.

ASSEMBLY STEP 3X • •

Attach the Front Wall/Back Wall FSA (OC08901) to Front Roof FSA (OC08903) by pulling the five buttonettes along the top edge of the front wall into the five eyelets along bottom edge of the front roof.

STEP 4 • • •

Attach the Clock Front FSA (OC08905) to the Front Wall/Back Wall FSA (OC08901) by pulling the six buttonettes of the clock front into the six eyelets of the front wall. The clock and front wall section is complete. Set aside.

ASSEMBLY STEP 5X •

Attach the Roof Extension FSA (OC08906) to the Front Roof FSA (OC08903) by pulling the two buttonettes on the roof extension into the two eyelets on the front roof.

STEP 6X •

Attach one of the Side Wall FSA (OC08902) to the Front Roof FSA (OC08903) by pulling the three buttonettes along the angled edge of the side wall into the three eyelets along the side edges of the front roof.

ASSEMBLY STEP 7 • •

Attach the same Side Wall FSA (OC08902) to the Front Wall/Back Wall FSA (OC08901) by pulling the four buttonettes along the side of front wall into the eyelets along the front side of the wall. Attach the other side.

STEP 8 •

Attach the Front Wall/Back Wall FSA (OC08901) to the Back Roof FSA (OC08904) by pulling the 5 buttonettes of the back wall into the five eyelets along the bottom edge of the back roof.

ASSEMBLY STEP 9X •

Attach the Back Roof FSA (OC08904) to one Side Wall FSA (OC08902) by pulling the three buttonettes along the angled edge of the side wall into the three eyelets along the side edge of the back roof.

Attach the same Side Wall FSA (OC08902) to the Front Wall/Back Wall FSA by pulling the four buttonettes along the side of the back wall in the four eyelets along the side wall. Start with the top buttonettes and work your way to the bottom. Repeat for opposite side.

Attach the Front Roof FSA (OC08903) to Back Roof FSA (OC08904) by pulling the six buttonettes along the edge of the front roof into the six eyelets along the edge of the back roof.

Attach Foundation FSA (OC08907) to Front Wall/Back Wall FSA (OC08901), going under Clock Front FSA (OC08905) first by pulling the center buttonette through the center of front wall. Continue pulling the buttonettes of the Foundation FSA (OC08907) into the eyelets of the front, sides and back.

ASSEMBLY STEP 1X • • •

Rinse each piece in warm running water until the design is only slightly tacky. Place right side down on a non-stick surface to dry. Parchment paper or a cooling rack will prevent curling. Dry completely. Once dry, press right side down on a Perfect Embroidery Press Cloth.

STEP 2X •

Fold the flaps of the Window FSA (OC09001) toward the back, finger press the edge.

ASSEMBLY STEP 3X •

Using alligator clamps, attach Window FSA (OC09001) to the Front Wall FSA (OC09003) by pulling the four buttonettes on the window flaps into the four eyelets on the front wall.

STEP 4 •

Form the Awning FSA (OC09003) by folding the side flaps of the awning down and pulling the two buttonettes on each side of the awning into the 2 eyelets located on each side flap. Insert the Alligator Clamps through the loops from the back side of the design. Grasp the buttonettes and pull through to inside the awning where they will not show when the assembly is complete.

ASSEMBLY STEP 5X •

Attach the Awning FSA (OC09002) to the Front Wall FSA (OC09003) by pulling the five buttonettes on the awning into the five remaining eyelets surrounding the top half of the window.

STEP 6 •

Attach one of the Side Walls FSA (OC09005) to the Front Wall FSA (OC09003) by pulling the three buttonettes along the side of the front wall into the three eyelets along the edge of the side wall.

ASSEMBLY STEP 7X •

Repeat for other side.

STEP 8 • •

Form the Chimney (OC09008) by folding it into a square and pressing each corner for defined fold. Pull the two buttonettes on one end into the two eyelets into the opposite end.

ASSEMBLY STEP 9X •

Attach the formed Chimney (OC09008) to the Roof FSA (OC09007) by pulling the four buttonettes on the corners of the chimney through the four eyelets in the roof.

STEP 10 • • • •

Attach Roof FSA (OC09007) to the Front Wall FSA (OC09003) by slightly folding the roof into a V shape. Position the roof over the building with the chimney on the left side of the roof and toward the back half of the building. Attach Roof FSA (OC09007) to the Side Walls FSA (OC09005). Attach the Back Wall FSA (OC09004) to the Side Walls FSA (OC09005). Attach Roof FSA (OC09007) to Back Wall FSA (OC09004.

ASSEMBLY STEP 11 X •

Attach Foundation FSA (OC09006) to Front Wall FSA (OC09003) and to both Side Walls FSA (OC09005) and to Back Wall FSA (OC09004).

ASSEMBLY STEP 1X • • •

Rinse each piece in warm running water until the design is only slightly sticky. Lay right side down on a non-stick surface to dry. Parchment paper or a cooling rack work well. This prevents the piece from curling. Press each piece, right side down, on a Perfect Embroidery Press Cloth.

STEP 2X •

-Assembling the Tree

Using alligator clamps, attach all six sections of the Tree Body FSL (OC09101) by pulling the five buttonettes along the side of one section through the five eyelets along the side of a second section.

ASSEMBLY STEP 3X •

Continue connecting sections until all six are buttoned together and lying flat in a fan pattern.

STEP 4 •

Slightly bend branches before attaching them.

ASSEMBLY STEP 5X •

Attach the six Tree Bottom Branch FSA (OC09102) to the six sections of the Tree Body (OC09101) by pulling the three buttonettes on each branch into the three corresponding eyelets on each section of the tree body.

STEP 6 •

Complete all the bottom branches.

ASSEMBLY STEP 7X •

Attach the six Tree Center Branch FSA (OC09103) to the six sections of the Tree Body (OC09101) by pulling the three buttonettes on each branch into the three corresponding eyelets on each section of the tree body.

STEP 8 •

Complete for center branches.

Attach the six Tree Top Branch FSA (OC09104) to the six sections of the Tree Body FSL (OC09101) by pulling the three buttonettes on each branch into the three corresponding eyelets on each section of the tree body.

STEP 10 •

Complete the top branches.

ASSEMBLY STEP 11 X •

Once the branches are attached, form the tree into a cone shape by connecting the final five buttonettes along one edge with the eyelets along the opposite edge.

Fold the tab below the Tree Star in half lengthwise and insert tab into open top of the tree. Note: The star has a loop at the bottom end. This is so you can hang a mirror or crystal inside the tree to reflect light. When the tree is positioned over a battery-operated tea light candle, the reflections can be quite stunning.

To create an extended entry, attach Entry Front Wall FSA (12423-01) to Front Wall FSA (1242304) by pulling the four buttonettes on the front entry flaps into the four corresponding eyelets.

STEP 4X •

Attach Front Roof FSA (12423-03) by pulling the three buttonettes on the roof into three eyelets on Front Wall FSA (12423-04) above the attached front entry.

ASSEMBLY STEP 5X •

Complete the entry roof by pulling the two buttonettes on Front Wall FSA (12423-01) into the two eyelets at the front of Front Roof FSA (12423-03).

STEP 6X •

Attach one Side Wall FSA (12423-05) to one side Front Wall FSA (12423-04) with extended entry by pulling the three buttonettes of the front wall into the three eyelets on the side wall.

Rinse each piece in warm running water until the design is only slightly tacky. Lay face down on a non-stick surface to dry. Tip: Parchment paper or a cooling rack work well. This prevents the piece from curling. Press each piece, right side down, on a Perfect Embroidery Press Cloth.

Insert the separate clapper into the center of the bell by pulling the buttonette into the eyelet on the inside of the bell so the buttonette is on the top of the bell.

ASSEMBLY STEP 1X • • • •

When design is complete, remove the project from the hoop and trim the stabilizer 1/4”- 1/2” outside the design. Rinse each piece in warm running water until the design is only slightly sticky. Lay face down on a non-stick surface to dry. Parchment paper or a cooling rack work well. This prevents the piece from curling. Press each piece, right side down, on a Perfect Embroidery Press Cloth.

STEP 2X •

Before assembly, take a utility knife and cut through all the layers of the tab entry on chosen marquee piece (12763-07 OR 12763-08.) Take care to not cut the satin stitching.

ASSEMBLY STEP 3X •

Assemble Right Door FSA (12763-05) and Left Door FSA (12763-06) by pulling the three flaps forward and attaching the two ceiling buttonettes into the corresponding eyelets on the side walls.

STEP 4X •

Using alligator clamps attach Right Door FSA (12763-05) and Left Door FSA (12763-06) to the Front Wall FSA (12763-01) by pulling the ten buttonettes on the entryways to the front side of the Front Wall.

Attach the corresponding buttonettes on either Marquee FSA (12763-07) or Blank Marquee FSA (12763-08).

Attach the marquee (12763-07 or 12763-08) eight buttonettes to the front wall (12763-01) eyelets. Note: Marquee should be placed with the tab entries facing up. The tab entries are used in attaching the theatre sign.

Before assembly, use a utility knife and cut through all layers of the tab entry Roof FSA (12799-10) or Roof with Snow FSA (12799-11). Tip: Take care to not cut the satin stitching. Note: Two roof styles are available to choose from, only one roof is needed.

Attach Left Walls FSA (12799-04) to Front Wall FSA (12799-01) by pulling the buttonettes into the eyelets to the Left of the Left Walls FSA. Attach the Right Walls FSA (12799-05) to Front Wall FSA (12799-01) by pulling the buttonettes into the eyelets to the right of the Right Walls FSA.

Use Alligator Clamps to assemble the Door FSA (1279902) by folding the top forward and pulling the buttonettes into the corresponding eyelets along the top and sides.

STEP 4X •

Attach the Door FSA (12799-02) to the Front Wall FSA (12799-01) by pulling the five buttonettes of the Door FSA into the five eyelets in the Front Wall FSA.

Align the straight edge of the Roof FSA (12799-10) or Roof with Snow FSA (12799-11) and attach the five buttonettes into the eyelets of the Right Walls FSA (12799-05) and Front Walls FSA (12799-01).

Repeat this process to attach the roof to the Front Walls FSA (12799-01) and Left Walls FSA (12799-04) by pulling the five buttonettes along the roof into the corresponding eyelets.

Attach the Right Walls FSA (12799-05) to the Left Walls FSA (12799-04)) by pulling the three buttonettes on right wall into the three eyelets of the left wall, using button clips to temporarily hold buttonettes in place as needed.

Insert the tab of the Back Wall to Cupola FSL (12799-06) into the corresponding roof tab entry point. Attach the four buttonettes from the Front Walls FSA (12799-01) to the four remaining Cupola FSL (12799-06) eyelets.

Rinse each piece in warm running water until the design is only slightly tacky. Place right side down on a non-stick surface to dry. Parchment paper or a cooling rack work well to prevent curling. Dry completely. Press each piece, right side down, on a Perfect Embroidery Press Cloth.

Bend the Front Steps FSL (12845-02) as shown. With an iron, press the creases in the steps.

Attach a Side Roof FSA (12845-15 or 12845-16 with snow) to each side structure by pulling the buttonettes on the front, side and back through the corresponding eyelets in the roof as shown.

Attach a Side Foundation FSA (12845-17) to each side structure by pulling the three floor buttonettes through the corresponding eyelets on the front, side and back of each side.

Insert the tabs on the front and back walls of the side structures into the corresponding slots on the sides of the center structure. Alligator Clamps may be inserted through the tab entry from the inside of the center section to assist in pulling the tabs through.

Once the tabs are pulled through, slide the sides down to be even with the bottom of the center section. Note: After putting the tabs into the tab entries, twist them slightly to help them stay in place, or use Button Clips to temporarily hold them.

Attach the Center Foundation FSA (12845-16) to the center section by inserting the tab on each side through the corresponding eyelet on each side.

PREP STEP 1X • • •

Use the punch tool, with the 3mm attachment, to punch holes in the eyelets indicated by red circles. Use a razor knife or scissors to cut a slit in the roof indicated by the dotted yellow line. Punch tool guide is located after instructions.

ASSEMBLY STEP 2X •

Using alligator clamps, attach Front Door FSA (12857-01), Right Wall FSA (12857-02), Back Door FSA (12857-03) and Inner Wall FSA (12857-04) by pulling the buttonettes through the corresponding eyelets on the adjacent piece as shown.

STEP 3X •

Attach Front Door FSA (12857-01) to Inner Wall FSA (12857-04) to create the structure.

STEP 4X •

Attach the Back Wall FSA (12857-07) to Left Wall FSA (12857-06). Attach the Left Wall FSA to the Boarding Doors Wall FSA (12857-05) by pulling buttonettes through the corresponding eyelets.

ASSEMBLY STEP 5X •

Attach the 4 buttonettes on Overhang Roof FSA (12857-08) to the eyelets on the Boarding Doors Wall FSA (12857-05).

STEP 6X • •

Attach one of the Overhang Pillars FSL (12857-09) to both Boarding Doors Wall FSA (12857-05) and Overhang Roof (12857-08) by sliding the tab through the tab entry. Attach the remaining Overhang Pillar supports to Boarding Doors Wall FSA by sliding the side tabs into the tab entry. Pull the top buttonettes of the Overhang Pillars FSL through the eyelets in Overhang Roof FSA.

STEP 7X • •

Attach the overhang to the main building by sliding the tab into the entry tabs to the left of the main building. Gently pull down to secure.

ASSEMBLY STEP 8X •

Creating the Platform. Fold at the hinge of the front and right side of Front Platform FSA (12857-10) and attach at the corner by inserting the buttonette into the corresponding eyelet.

STEP 9X •

Attach the Front Platform FSA (12857-10) to the front of the building. Slide the Overhang Pillars FSL (12857-09) into the platform and pull the remaining buttonettes through the corresponding eyelets.

STEP 10 X • • •

Attach the Clock FSA (12857-15) by pulling the tab through the Left Roof FSA (12857-13) or Left Roof with Snow FSA (12857-14). Attach the Clock and Roof to the overhang section of the station. Note: The train station comes with a choice of two roof options, one with snow and one without.

Attach the Right Roof FSA (12857-11) or Right Roof with Snow FSA (12857-12) to the main station building by pulling the buttonettes through the corresponding eyelets.

STEP 12 X •

Attach the Right Foundation FSA (12857-16) and Left Foundation FSA (12857-17) to the base of the station by pulling the buttonettes into the corresponding eyelets.
