Jokes Dog is man's best friend because they spend so much time together in the dog house.
This guy was watching TV as his wife was out cutting the grass during the hot summer. He finally worked up the energy to go out and ask his wife what was for supper. Well, his missus was quite irritated about him sitting in the air conditioned house all day while she did all the work, so she scolded him. "I can't believe you're asking me about supper right now! Imagine I'm out of town, go inside and figure dinner out yourself." So he went back in the house and fixed himself a big steak, with potatoes, garlic bread and tall glass of iced tea. The wife finally walked in about the time he was finishing up and asked him, "You fixed something to eat? So where is mine?" "Huh? I thought you were out of town."
I was at a once in a lifetime corporate hospitality at a premier football game
and I got an urgent call from the wife saying her mum's been hit by a bus and has only hours to live. Fifteen minutes later, I'm at the hospital and the wife's hugging me. "Thank-you darling, I'm so sorry you'll miss your football." "Don't worry, love, I wouldn't miss this - I'm taping it and I'll watch it later." Dunno why she got so upset when I started setting up the camcorder.
I got home from the pub last night and my wife said, "I can't believe how intoxicated you are." Denying it I said, "I'm not drunk." She said, "Yes you are." I said, "No I'm not." She said, "Can you tell the time?" I walked up to the clock and said, "I'm not drunk."

Curious, the woman pinned a note to his collar: "Every afternoon, your dog comes to my house for a nap."

For the first time in over three years, stars of American Wrestling will invade Tullamore, Co. Offaly, when the powerhouses of Emerald Wrestling Promotions stamp their mark all over the Bridge House Hotel on Friday February 18th at 7.30pm. In a night of guaranteed non stop action, those in attendance will witness the incredible power of Heavyweight gladiators and the athleticism of their high flying Cruiserweight counterparts. One Wrestler looking forward to making the trip to Tullamore is Welsh Heavyweight; Andy Boy Simmonz. Andy is a household name around the UK Wrestling circuit and has achieved great success in many European countries – holding titles in Italy, Germany and Spain. As a fan favourite all over Europe, it wasn’t long before Simmonz attracted the attention of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Simmonz was quickly contracted to battle WWE Superstars Matt Hardy, Goldust and Snitsky on live television. So impressed was WWE Owner Vince McMahon that he personally challenged Simmonz to take on Samoan Monster Umaga in the main event of Monday Night Raw. Andy courageously accepted and put up a warriors effort in a memorable collision. When asked about the event, Simmonz said "I'm really looking forward to coming to Tullamore, because most people only see wrestling on TV and they don't realise what an incredible spectacle it can be when you're close enough to hear every blow. Offaly, and Ireland generally, has a great sporting tradition and I can promise them that they'll never forget the
name Andy Boy Simmonz after the 18th." Also in action in the Bridge House will be the Manchester Monster, LT Summers. Standing 6 foot 6 Inches tall with 17 stone of pure muscle, Summers is an intimidating force for any challenger. Having represented his country at Rugby League, Summers decided to unleash his aggression inside the ring. LT has since dominated the UK Heavyweight Wrestling scene, holding the British Heavyweight Title for four long spells. Summers recently issued a challenge to any Irish wrestler to battle him on February 18th – one which was bravely accepted by Celtic Warrior Eamon O’Neill, a home town hero who always draws huge crowds to events in his native county and all over Europe. The Manchester Monster has stated “O’Neill has bitten off more than he can chew!!” Other wrestlers scheduled to appear on the night include: High Flying Mexican Lion Kid, TNA Star – Haskins and The American Idol - Sean Sensation, plus many more top wrestling stars. Book Review Fork to Fork Journal Monty and Sarah Don Review by Elizabeth O’Shea Monty Don is very well known from his time on the BBC’s Gardeners’ World, and his 2006 publication Fork to Fork is a very well regarded introduction to vegetable gardening all year. The Fork to Fork Journal is a lovely little book that combines excerpts from the original Fork to Fork with notes pages where the gardener can note what grows, what doesn’t, what tastes lovely and what’s better in the compost heap than on the plate. The book is beautifully bound, and the month-by-month format means there is always something relevant to peruse on those days when it’s just too wet and windy to get out in the garden. If you already own the original Fork to Fork, the journal is not for you because
the growing and cooking information is wordfor-word from the original book. 2011 is here and with all new years, we look forward to a fresh start. The Christmas decorations have been put away and perhaps your home looks a bit bare, perhaps you are noticing that a couple of rooms need a coat of paint, or some fresh wallpaper, or new blinds or even a few new scatter cushions on the sofa would add some finishing touches to the living room. People haven’t been travelling as much in the last couple of years but why not bring some aspects of other countries to your homes. Creating a ‘Moroccan’ room or an ‘Indian’ themed room was very popular in the 1990s with programmes such as ‘Changing rooms’ and presenters like Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen. However, I am going to suggest more subtle touches which will add a touch of the exotic and far flung places without becoming over the top or tiresome. African Theme Creams, oranges and browns make great background colours for an Afrian theme, incorporating as many natural tones as possible with splashes of burnt orange, green and blue. To add an African influence, it is reasonably easy to find cheetah, leopard and zebra patterns on tapestries, rugs and blankets. Andrew Martin has launched a fabulously rich fabric with an elephant pattern that is also suitable for upholstery. Turner Pocock’s new wallpaper collection which includes ostrich and zebra is wonderful for children’s bedrooms but could also be used in an adult’s bedroom,
study or bathroom to add to the theme. If you really want to embrace an African theme, add African art to the walls or hang primitive weapons, tools or tribal masks. Drums can double as lamp tables too. The beauty of this style is that you can add as much or as little as you like. Add Indian Spice Indian colours can be very bright such as magentas, limes and turquoises and look absolutely beautiful in soft fabrics such as silks and chiffons. Tassels and fringing on cushions and curtains adds plenty of glamour and texture. If you feel these colours are too bright for our more Northern light, either use the bright colours for cushions and throws or opt for whites and golds with plenty of patterning on the silks and chiffons. If you decide to include Indian themed furniture, it will be quite ornate as they tend to be heavily carved, gilded, mosaic or painted. You could adapt an existing table reasonably easily by tiling it with a mosaic pattern or replacing cupboard doors with a lattice panel. To add to the look with wall hangings, use ornate mirrors and frames. Brightly coloured wall hangings can be hung on the walls and are relatively inexpensive but very effective.

On Saturday Portlaoise 3rd’s travelled to Athy for a Leinster League J3 fixture. In lovely spring like conditions both teams started the game with Portlaoise requiring a win to consolidate their lead at the top of the league and Athy determined to prevent that and obtain the points. In today’s game boys and girls from a selection of schools in Offaly (football) and Offaly and Galway (hurling & camogie) will participate. The children themselves will referee the games. Schools throughout the county are represented, where possible. These games are small sided, in line with the GoGames philosophy with the emphasis on enjoyment and participation. We would also like to thank the Offaly senior hurling and football managers and players for the encouragement they have shown to the

How Does the Voting System in Ireland Work? By Martin Gosling Ireland’s voting system is one of Proportional Representation using the single transferable vote in multi-seat constituencies. Article 16 of the Constitution states that all citizens who have reached the age of eighteen years and who are not disqualified by law can vote in elections for Dáil Éireann. Voting is done by secret ballot with each voter having only one vote. Proportional Representation means that as a voter, you can indicate your first and subsequent choices for the candidates on the ballot paper. The names of the candidates will appear in alphabetical order on the ballot paper, together with their photographs and their party emblem. You indicate your first choice by writing 1 opposite your first choice and 2 opposite your second choice, 3 opposite your third choice and so on. You may stop marking your paper after 1 or any subsequent preference or you may go right down the ballot paper until a preference has been given to all candidates ending with the candidate of your lowest choice. When you vote like this, you are instructing the Returning Officer to transfer your vote to the second choice candidate if your first choice is either elected with a surplus of votes over the quota or is eliminated. If your second choice is elected or eliminated, your vote may be transferred to your third choice and so on. When polling is over, all the ballot boxes are taken to a central counting place for each constituency. The count starts at 9am on the day after polling day. The ballot papers are then sorted into piles of ballot papers for each candidate. The ballot papers are mixed, counted and sorted and spoiled papers are rejected. A paper is spoiled if it does not have an official stamp, if it does not indicate a clear choice, for example, if you have indicated two No.1’s on the paper, or if anything is written on the ballot paper by which the voter can be identified. The Total Valid Poll therefore, is the total number of votes minus the number of spoiled papers. When the papers have been counted and sorted, the quota is calculated by dividing the Total
Valid Poll by one more than the number of seats to be filled, ignoring any remainder and then adding one vote. For example, in a Dáil election in a 4-seat constituency with 50,000 votes cast, 50,000 divided by four plus 1 (i.e. 5) = 10,000; 10,000 plus 1 is 10,001. This is the quota of votes to be reached by the candidates and it means that only 4 persons can be elected. If a candidate receives more than the quota on any count, the surplus votes are transferred to the remaining candidates in proportion to the next available preferences indicated by voters. Where a candidate is elected at the second or later count, only the votes that brought him/her over the quota are examined in the surplus distribution. If two or more candidates exceed the quota at the same time, the larger surplus is distributed first. The distribution of a surplus is prohibited if it cannot materially affect the progress of the count, either by electing a candidate or saving the lowest candidate from elimination. Where there is no surplus for distribution or the distribution of the surplus is prohibited, the next step is the elimination of the lowest candidate. Two or more of the lowest candidates must be excluded together where it is clear that they cannot possibly be saved from elimination in the long run. Where a candidate is eliminated, all of his/her votes are transferred to the next available preferences on them. Counting continues until all the seats have been filled. 4th Annual Blazing Bikers Charity Motorbike Road Run 32 County Challenge 2011 in aid of The National Council for the Blind of Ireland The National Council for the Blind of Ireland Once again fundraisers and Thurles duet, Billy Shanahan and his daughter Katriona and their team of Blazing Bikers, are back on the road! This follows up on their successful Tour of Wales last May Bank Holiday weekend 2010, which saw a crew of 120 participants take on the “Celtic Tour”, raising over €30,000 for the National Council for the Blind of Ireland. This year they will lead a group of over one hundred intrepid Blazing Bikers through each one of Ireland’s 32 counties over 3 days along 1,000km of Irish roads. The previous tours started with Malin to Mizen in 2008; Mizen to Malin in 2009; and the Celtic Tour 2010. These 3 events have raised over €120,000 for the National Council for the Blind of Ireland. Billy and Katriona would like to thank all the bikers who have taken part and all their sponsors who have contributed so generously over the years. These funds are used to deliver essential services to people who suffer from various forms of visual impairment. These services include mobility training, computer education, social services support, counseling and adaptation needs, braille training, library and news magazine services, advocacy, and so on. The participants will stay over in Killarney Friday 29th April where Billy & Katriona will go over the route and nominate marshals for the weekend, they will then start out from there on Saturday morning and finish in Waterford on Monday May 2nd 2011. A
full support team will look after all essential needs from route planning and safety to food and accommodation. Gardai have already approved the route plan and standards of safety adopted for the event. Their support and co-operation is so much appreciated – the event could not go ahead without their approval and support. From their responses to date it would appear that Billy and Katriona have got the mix of adventure, challenge, and hospitality just right for the bikers and their pillion passengers. For this most eagerly awaited event the overnight stops are in hotels in Killarney (Fri night), Bundoran(Sat night), and Dublin(Sun night). A fundraising target of €550 per biker sharing and €350 per pillion passenger sharing includes 3 nights dinner including 1 gala dinner, Hotel B&B, itinerary booklet, DVD of event, certificate of completion, and a souvenir shirt plus badge. Self Employed & Paying too much Tax? For people who are self employed, and where profit from the business is significantly higher than personal drawings each year, it is advisable to review whether it is better to incorporate your business. The benefits of using a company structure for your business are mainly lower profit taxes and limited liability. In this article I will only deal with the lower profit taxes. Ireland’s corporation tax rates remains at 12.5%, although this has received a lot of media coverage in the last year, where many European countries are raising the issue of Irelands low corporation tax rate. Current government policy is to keep the 12.5% corporation tax rate. As with any taxes, this may or may not change in future years. This corporation tax rate compares very favourably with current income tax rates for sole traders and partnerships on profits, where income tax of 20% or 41%, universal social charge (USC) of 7%, and PRSI of 4% all currently apply. These combine to over 50% of taxes on profits at the marginal rate where business profits excede standard rate tax bands. The current corporation tax rate of 12.5% is not much higher than the combined USC and PRSI rates, before we even consider income tax of 20% or 41%. For this reason a lot of businesses are now incorporating their business.
The process is not a complicated one. The sole trade or partnership must be ceased and cessation accounts prepared for the final year,
and the business de-registered for all taxes. A revision of profits may arise in certain circumstances and this would need to be considered. A new company can be set up relatively inexpensively, and 2 directors must be appointed to the company board. The directors are responsible to ensure that the company complies with company law and other law, and can be held personally liable for the debts of the company in certain circumstances. The directors will open a new company bank account, register the company for corporation tax and employer taxes / Vat if required, and register all employees as employees of the company. The business will continue to trade as normal and the business name can be transferred to the company. The company will be given a new tax number to be used on sales invoices and other documentation. After 6 months a B1 must be submitted to the Companies office. The directors are required to submit an annual B1 with accompanying company accounts to the Companies office by the annual return date that each company is assigned. Depending on the case, most business can file the company accounts without the need for an annual audit. Normally the business person will become one of the new directors of the company, and must continue to file an income tax return to include their new company wage. The directors will be paid an agreed wage from the company. In addition the assets of the business can be transferred from the business person to the company at an agreed price.
Worked Example: John operates his business through a sole trade but decides to trade through a company for next year. His profits are €90000 per annum and he needs €400 per week net for living expenses. His wife works and uses her full tax credits and tax bands. Sole Trader Business Profit

Weekly Club Lotto Weekly Lotto 12-Feb-11. There was no winner of the weekly club Lotto jackpot. The winning numbers were 10-16-19-23. There were five match three winners. Game 6 Claras final game was a tough physical encounter where the defensive work of Callum Egan and Adam Owens was outstanding. There were four teams competing, Clara BNS, Ballinamere NS, Scoil Eoin Pol and Scoil Brid from Tullamore. The format would be round robin with the top two teams qualifying for the final. Game 1 saw the Tullamore derby which was always close 3-3 at half time and 6-6 at the final Game 2 Clara faced Ballinamere and the Clara boys lead 7-4 at half time with goals from Josh Fleming-2, Ciaran Doyle-2 and Kieran Hartnett-3. The final score was 11-6 to Clara with a goal each in second half from Ciaran Doyle, Kieran
This set up the A Division Final as a repeat of last year with Clara Vs Ballinamere. At halftime it was 4-2 to Clara with Kieran Hartnett-3 and Ciaran Doyle1. During the second half the team and subs turned it on to win the final 12-3 with scores again from Kieran Hartnett-2, Ciaran Doyle-2, Conor Murray-1, Nathan Bracken-1 and Josh Fleming-2 and great defense work from Adam Owens and Callum Egan again and some top class saves from goalkeeper Eoin Dunne. There were great celebrations when joint captains Josh Fleming and Kieran Hartnett were presented with the cup. on a great display, winning one game and losing out narrowly in 2 games by 1 goal only to Walsh Island and Geal Scoil, therefore not qualifying for the B Division final. However they ended the day on a positive note beating Durrow in a very competitive game. Panel were Philip Keegan, Lee Fleming, Sean Fleming, Dean Larkin, Sean Tierney, Gary Kelly, Josh McCluskey, Patrick Gaffey, Mark Doorley and Jack Mears. A special thanks to the Offaly coaches who organized the day. Bord Na nOg Day trip to the Curragh Army Base. A great day was had by the 42 boys from the club who went to the Curragh to partake in a day of Military style training. The first part of the morning was spent with the lads put through their paces by two army PT instructors. Its fair to say they were tired after a good one and a half hour workout. We then proceeded to the Army pool where great fun was had and an appetite was built up for a fine lunch prepared by the army chefs. After lunch we had a tour of the new army museum and then made the trip back to Clara. A special word of thanks must go out to the mentors that helped out on the day. Paddy Weldon, Tony Egan and Kevin Roe. And a big thanks to Barry Egan the youngest man on the trip and he did work and train very hard. Also a big thank you to Roy Cronin who organised the trip. And last but not least a huge Thank you to the parents of the boys who ensured their bags had all that was required. Your support is and always will be greatly appreciated. U21 Football Championship On a wet night for football, Clara were beaten last Tuesday night by St Manchans Gaels in Tubber on a score line of 1-12 to 1-4.
