Jokes An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen. The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, "Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great. I would recommend it very highly." The other man said, "What is the name of the restaurant?" The first man thought and thought and finally said, "What is the name
of that flower you give to someone you love? You know... the one that's red and has thorns." "Do you mean a rose?" "Yes, that's the one," replied the man. He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled, "Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?"

A Scottish lad and lass were sitting together on a heathery hill in the Highlands. They had been silent for a while, when the lass said, "A penny for your thoughts." The lad was a bit abashed, but he finally said, "Well, I was thinkin' how nice it would be if ye'd give me a wee bit of a kiss." So she did so. But he again lapsed into a pensive mood which lasted long enough for the lass to ask him, "What are ye thinkin' now?" To which the lad grumbled, "Well, I was hopin' ye hadn't forgot the penny!"

Brosna Gaels Hurling held a four day summer camp, from Wednesday 30th July to Saturday 3rd July for children from the Pullough, Doon, Ballycumber & Tubber areas. The camp catered for 110 children ranging in ages for 4 to 12 year olds. Over 35 coaches from Brosna Gaels and the County Board took the kids through drills, skills & games over the course of the 4 days in Doon, Pullough, Tubber and Ballycumber. The camp culminated in a colourful parade on Saturday led by three local Olympians Tara Phelan, Michael Egan and Margaret Dunican, who were medal recipients in the recent Special Olympics. They presented each child with a Brosna Gaels sliotar. Certificates of Participation were presented
to the children by three members of the Offaly senior panel, Brosna Gaels' own Fergal Daly, Stephen Egan and Shane Dooley.

I was so looking forward to warming up my bones after a disastrous winter here in Ireland. Our garden was still reeling from the adverse weather conditions earlier in the year. We packed our bathing suits, sunscreen, blankets for sunbathing, and summer clothes. Getting off the Oscar Wilde in Roscoff and feeling the warm sunshine on our faces, we were just about ready for a good break, a good rest, great food, and plenty of sight-seeing. Our first week involved a lot of driving. In fact, the majority of the overall journey was done in the first 2 days. Arriving into the Alsace area of France from Germany, we were ready for the famous “Massif Central”, an area well known for its beauty. Within 2 days of arriving into At the Woodie’s DIY senior track and field championships at the Southern France, the weather weekend, Gordon Kennedy (Tullamore Harriers) won the men's changed and we experienced 400m in 46.57. grees. A far cry from 28/32 we were experiencing just the week before. We finally got our sun back when we headed north towards Brittany, and actually got sunburnt on the ferry home. So that was our holiday! Now that we are home, and a week of tending to the garden, washing clothes and airing out damp camping gear has passed, I am glad we did the trip, it wasn’t so much a rest, but a change. A holiday in any form is a total change from your home environment. Your routine is disturbed enough that it must be re-established on your return. We often complain about the holiday not being long enough, but when people were stranded in holiday resorts because of the volcanic ash problems in May, there was little fun to be had, as money and clean clothes quickly depleted. For some, a holiday is to recharge the batteries. If that is the case, then we can restrict our activities to sitting by the pool with a good book or five, leaving the phone and laptop at home. For others, they find an energetic hiking holiday or going to West Cork with four children (plus the neighbour’s child) gets them far enough away from routine, it feels like a real break. So when planning your vacation time, plan it according to your needs, prepare for the possibility of bad weather (bring the travel scrabble) and keep it as stress free as possible. Some day, you may have to deal with flooding, snow or similar weather conditions, so be open to change and you won’t resent your plans.

New to Ireland Puncturesafe, Puncture Preventative & Tyre Life Extender Works for any tyre, reduces running costs by up to 5 cent A litre and can increase tyre life by up to 405 Puncturesafe is a special blend of polymers which coats and clings to the inner wall of the tyre. Puncturesafe is a "permanent" puncture preventative and tyre life extender/conditioner, and we believe the only product on the market today that is guaranteed to work very long term in a high-speed tyre. Previously available products (and most current ones) have simply "fallen apart" at speeds of 40 mph and over, because they were manufactured for the construction industries slow vehicles, but eventually made their way into the high-speed markets creating problems. Puncturesafe is not a get you home product, it is applied before the puncture occurs, and permanently seals puncture after puncture in the tyre as they occur. Once installed, Puncturesafeseal not only seals punctures, it conditions the inner casing, preventing porosity leaks caused by tiny holes and cracks. In other words after installing Puncturesafe the tyres maintain correct air pressure and the need to regularly top up with air is virtually eliminated, and with correctly inflated tyres you get better fuel economy, your tyres also run cooler eliminating that killer problem of devastating heat build-up. Tyres treated with Puncturesafe last considerably longer, and unlike temporary sticky oil based sealants, Puncturesafe is water based for easy clean out if ever you need to do this. Puncturesafe is installed in minutes through the tyre valve with very little air loss and without removing any wheels What makes Puncturesafe different to tyre sealants that have proved not to work? Technology! Sealants have caused many problems that we at Puncturesafe have addressed. Using a highly evolved mixture of polymers, we have devised a product that is more than capable of working in harmony with today’s modern breed of vehicles. We have included polymers and chemistry that bonds the molecules of the sealant together at speeds up to 150mph. Previously available products, and most current ones, have simply "fallen apart" at around 55-65mph. Puncturesafe's abilities & performance does not diminish with speed, distance or time.
Puncturesafe does not have any of the failings that previous and many present products have. Apart from drying and balling up in the tyre, the biggest failings of traditional tyre sealants in a high speed tyre, was the inability to seal small holes, but the ability to seal a large dangerous hole or cut, because they contained large chunks of chopped up rubber. Whereas Puncturesafe contains only tiny strands of coarse surface synthetic fibres that are stronger than steel when they interlock tightly together, but will only positively seal small holes caused by puncturing objects up to 6mm in diameter, but only in a hole that is in the tread area of the tyre, and that is shrinking in size because there is no cord damage (rubber recovery), which is 95% of today's high speed punctures. Anything bigger, or in the sidewall, with or without cord damage, and the Puncturesafe fibres just slowly bleed through the hole, giving a controlled deflation, and usually with a halt or abrupt slow down in air pressure loss at the lower pressures of 10 to 15 psi (depending on cord damage) which prevents damaged rims, and helps the driver maintain control possibly enabling continuation of the journey to remove the vehicle from a possibly dangerous location. Through our extensive research and development efforts, our proprietary formulation has progressed far beyond the parameters of what is commonly known as a tyre sealant. Puncturesafe is a true tyre life extender and also a puncture preventative. The Puncturesafe Research & Development Team developed an unrivalled proprietary process that has yet to be duplicated. Puncturesafe is a proven preservative for increasing tyre longevity and retreadability and will reduce premature tyre failure. Puncturesafe converts any pneumatic tyre into a self-sealing tyre that will maintain air pressure. Puncturesafe has the unique ability to coat the entire inner surface of a tyre and rim without succumbing to shear and stress associated with centrifugal force that is created within a high speed rotating tyre. Puncturesafe's attributes are unparalleled in the history of the pneumatic tyre.

Asking prices fall 4% in the second quarter of the year Asking prices for residential property around the country fell by 4.2% during the second quarter of 2010, according to the latest report published by property website Daft.ie. The national average asking price for property has fallen 37% since the peak and now stands at €220,000. The average time to sell a property is eight months, down from 10 months at the start of the year. In Dublin prices fell by 5% in the past 3 months and are now 40% lower than prices seen during the peak. Elsewhere in the country, prices are 34% below the peak on average. In Cork and Limerick prices fell by 3% and 2% respectively during the last three months, while prices in Waterford fell by 7%. The largest falls in the country were in Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan, where asking prices fell by an average of 11%, having been static for the past six months.
second quarter of 2010 was €185,000, a fall of €116,000 from the peak in 2007. Ronan Lyons, economist with Daft.ie said: "While falls in asking prices are slower than last year, the market is still in adjustment and the total stock for sale, particularly outside the main cities, remains high. Nonetheless, evidence from Dublin in particular shows that properties are selling. Almost half the number of properties listed in the capital in January are now sale agreed or sold." He continued, "Around the country, about 5,000 properties were listed for sale in April. Of these, 15% of properties have already been sold, while a further 10% are sale agreed. This represents a slight slowing down, compared with the first quarter, when 20% of properties listed in January were sold by April 1, with a further 10% sale agreed."
Offaly & West Leinster In the West Leinster counties of Laois, Westmeath, Offaly and Longford, asking prices were fell by almost 6% in the second quarter of 2010, having been largely static in the first three months of the year. The average asking in Offaly in the

Farming Farm Action
by PJ Phelan
Grassland Management. Recent rain has solved all moisture deficits and grass is responding very well at present(12/7). Apply all remaining slurry now to grassland as soon as it becomes available for spreading. Don’t get caught going into the winter period trying to get slurry out before the closed period begins. It is very important to check the weather forecast before spreading as you are not allowed to spread either fertiliser or slurry if heavy rain is forecast within 48 hours after application. Now is the time to put in place a plan, on highly stocked farms, to ensure you will have adequate grass in the autumn period. Hold 15 – 20% of the farm aside for a third cut of silage or autumn grazing and put either:1.
40 – 70 units of Nitrogen on it or
2.
1,500 – 2,000 gals cattle slurry plus 30 – 50 units of CAN or equivalent 5 – 7 days later.
It is very important from now on to ensure that you are not exceeding your farm fertiliser limits. Check you farm limits for both Nitrogen and Phosphorus before any purchases take place.

The rate of application will be determined by the level of weeds present. Application should take place when Measure silage pits, make allowances the grain moisture content is less than for other forages and determine 30% tonnes available. If the shortfall is Recommended Rate of Glyphosate more that 10% you will certainly (360g/l) need to make additional silage or make alternative arrangements. Don’t Weeds Rate (l/ha) get caught with being forced to purAnnual grasses and green tillers 1.0 chase silage during the winter feeding period. Dairying Grazed grass is now higher in moisture and milk yield will decrease due to reduced dry matter intake. This may be managed by continuing to feed supplement, either meals or baled silage. Keep paddocks grazed tightly otherwise grass will get stemmy and performance will drop. Calculation of milk solid production per cow:1.
Multiply litres per cow per day by 1.03
2.
Add the percentage fat and the percentage protein.
3.
Multiply 1) by 2) and divide by 100.
Winter Fodder. Nearly all silage is higher in Dry Matter this year which should enable adequate silage with somewhat less than standard requirements:-

Counselling
Testimonials Our sister publication the Tipp Tatler has been providing excellent results for our advertisers for over 8 years. Here’s what some have to say “We are very happy with the service provided by the Tipp Tatler, it gets us lots of local jobs”. Jason, Drain It Ltd.
Bereavement and grieving In the last issue I looked at what counselling means. As the anniversary of the death of my youngest son approaches, I would like to write a number of articles on bereavement, which I hope will help those suffering loss.
“We find the Tipp Tatler to be a great advertising medium. Its distribution means our business is promoted over a large area to a wide range of people ensuring our business remains successful”. Tom Gleeson – Arra Communications, Nenagh
Prayers The Miraculous Prayer – Dear Heart of Jesus, in the past I’ve asked for many favours. This time I ask You this very special one (mention favour). Take it Dear Heart of Jesus and place it within Your own broken heart where Your Father sees it. Then in His merciful eyes it will become Your favour, not mine. Amen. Say this prayer for 3 days, promise publication and favour will be granted. Never known to fail. D.D. Prayer to St.Anthony O Holy St Anthony, gentlest of saints, your love for God and charity for His creatures made you worthy when on earth to possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited on your word, which you were ever ready to speak for those in trouble & anxiety. Encouraged by this thought I implore you to obtain for me....(here mention your request). The answer to my prayer may require a miracle, even so, you are the Saint of Miracles, O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my peti-

The emphasis is on loss. This does not mean only death. People may experience loss when they retire, especially if they are forced to retire through ill health, they experience loss if their health fails, if a relationship breaks down; children experience loss at the death of pets and so tion into the ears of the sweet Infant Jesus, on. In the first of articles on grieving I hope to explore normal grieving and later I will devote an article to delayed or complicated grief, which normally requires counselling to unravel.
People who are grieving usually experience 4 types of reactions - feeling, physical sensations, thoughts and behaviours. I have experienced these in my own life, and they are a painful and sometimes a devastating process. But it is a process that must be endured. There is no shortcut through grief. I recall that the pain was at times so great in my grieving that I often wondered if it would ever end or would I ever be happy again. There are many feeling associated with grieving. Not all bereaved people experience all of them.
The range of feelings involved in grief are as follows: sadness, anger, guilt, anxiety, loneliness, fatigue, helplessness, shock, yearning, emancipation, relief, horror, terror and numbness. Please remember that feelings are part of you. They are your friends. They will ultimately liberate you. Allow them
I do not have the space here to explore each feeling, so I will concentrate upon a few. The one that seems to be the most problematic to people, especially older people is that of anger. When I was learning the catechism, I learned that anger was one of the seven deadly sins. So I grew up with
By Jim O’Shea a feeling that anger was a sin; even more, a deadly sin! Anger is not a sin. It is a normal healthy feeling which should be allowed expression (not however in violent behaviour towards others). I recall stopping the car and shouting my anger at God, at my child for being o careless on the road, for leaving me bereft and suffering. God can take it.
Another feeling which is hard to bear is loneliness. In a sense it is a feeling of desolation that part of ones life is gone and will never return. I experienced this not only following tragedy in my family, but when I retired from a busy job. Then there is the feeling of terror. I found that this arose from my feeling of helplessness. I was unable to do anything to prevent the death of my child. I have mentioned the feeling of emancipation. This is also problematic for the grieving person to admit. But relief and emancipation are feelings that arise when the survivor is released from a life of cruelty and abuse inflicted by the person who has died.
In conclusion, it is only by allowing the feelings that arise that the grieving person can move on. It is possible to accept anything and to move on. What is the alternative? That does not mean that feeling of sadness and loneliness will return from time to time throughout one’s life. Neither does it mean forgetting about the person who has died.
Jim O’Shea works as a counsellor from Furze, Thurles. Ph. 087 8211009 www.jimoshea.net . JimO’Shea’s book ‘When a child dies. Footsteps of a Grieving Family’ is published by Veritas. The royalties from this book will go tosthe Children’s Hospital in Crumlin.
