Winter General Assembly
INVITATION
Word of Welcome Dear EPCAS member, Dear EPCAS friend, We are pleased to invite you to our EPCAS Winter General Assembly, taking place from Sunday February 5th until Tuesday February 7th in Bordeaux, France. The upcoming Assembly is all about tasting the ‘joie de vivre’ and the beautiful French wines, as we are invited to Bordeaux by Nicolas Rochon, on behalf of Baron Philippe de Rothschild. With 163 years of experience in wine making and a rich history, Château Mouton Rothschild is going to treat us with their best wines. Bordeaux has two famous titles. The first is ‘Port de la lune’, meaning moon harbour. This title refers to the shape of the river Garonne that goes through Bordeaux. The logo of the city, in the shape of three crescents, also hints to this title. The second title is ‘La belle endormie’, which means sleeping beauty. This refers to the luxurious and historical architecture, and the peacefulness of the city. We hope to inspire you with the French cuisine, the beautiful sceneries of Bordeaux and the vineyards, and of course great wines. We look forward to welcoming you in Bordeaux! Kind regards, On behalf of the EPCAS Board, Advisory Council and Secretariat,
Ruedi Bachmann EPCAS President

Château Mouton Rothschild ”The long façade of light yellow stone overlooks the sea of vines.” This is a perfect description of Mouton Rothschild. The ambition of making Mouton a place of art and beauty can be seen everywhere. Outside, in the harmonious arrangement of buildings and open space, in the subtle play of perspectives, in the zen-raked pathways, in the peaceful symmetry of the two end-walls that frame the château, in the contrast between the vertical lines of Petit Mouton, a modest, ivy-covered, mansard-roofed Victorian residence built in 1885, and the horizontal lines of Grand Mouton, constantly enhanced and redesigned since the 1960s.
The Rothschilds, a famous European family, are well-known for their eminent role in finance, wine and philanthropy. In the late 18th century the founder of the dynasty, Mayer Amschel Rothschild, sent five of his sons to conquer the major capitals of Europe, where they created powerful financial institutions.

A little piece of history A long time ago, in 1853, Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, wishing to serve his own wine to his prestigious guests, decided to buy Château Brane-Mouton at an auction. He renamed the estate, at Pauillac in the heart of the Médoc, Château Mouton Rothschild. This was the beginning of the famous (Mouton) Rothschild dynasty. Despite the increasingly acknowledged quality of its wine, Mouton aroused little interest among its owners at first, as they were unwilling to make the journey to a then-neglected region. Times changed when Baron Nathaniel’s great grandson Baron Philippe de Rothschild, barely 20 years old at that time, took over and devoted his entire life to the estate. In 1988, when Baron Philippe passed away his only child, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, inherited the treasure along with a heavy responsibility, which she shared with her three children Camille, Philippe and Julien. She ended her career as a well-known actress in order to carry on her father’s work, and resolutely brought Mouton into the 21st century.

“How catering has become an integral part of experiential marketing and brand experiences” ‘Immersive’ has become the buzz-word associated with events and live marketing, and the modern party caterer is expected to create a food and drink narrative which not only engages guests, but gives clients and brands a ‘return on experience’. Julian Saipe, Managing Director of premium London party caterer Zafferano gives an insight into how the eating and drinking landscape of event catering is changing.
