ATHLETIC MENTOR PROGRAM
AMP: ATHLETE MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
ABOUT The Athlete Mentorship Program (AMP) helps initiate and develop relationships between Belmont student-athletes and professionals from a wide array of industries in the Nashville area. These connections provide the studentathlete with guidance and direction in areas such as personal goals, career development, networking and future employment opportunities. Additionally, AMP offers personal development that will assist student-athletes as they transition to life after Belmont. The hope for AMP participants is that the connection between the mentor and mentee will grow and develop into a longterm professional relationship.
AMP is the brainchild of Belmont Athletics Director Scott Corley and was created in 2018. In the 2020-21 academic year, AMP’s third year of existence, 34 student-athletes from nine different sports participated in the program. This year’s group of mentors come from a number of career fields including accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, health care, music business, public relations, sales and sports. The group also boasts 14 Belmont alumni, including 10 former student-athletes. “Belmont’s Athlete Mentorship Program has been truly beneficial in helping me navigate my current life as a student-athlete while preparing me for my transition out of collegiate athletics and into my career. My mentor has experience working at the same company where I am interning this summer, so he has been a massive help to me as I prepare for this upcoming opportunity. Additionally, he has offered me tons of valuable advice regarding graduate school, and he has broadened my horizons by discussing the various career paths that people with my major can take.” “For me, the Athletics Mentoring Program (AMP) has provided me with a new contact, mentor, and friend. She has provided me with valuable insights of what to expect of the job market within my industry as well as productive conversations that has built my confidence. The program has also offered interactions with an interview coach that will better prepare me for the job search after college.”
