How to Recycle in Residence
Lister - Residence Towers
Please help us reach our goal of keeping 50 per cent of UAlberta’s waste out of the landfill by 2015.
What can I recycle? In Lister, you can recycle beverage containers, paper and cardboard, glass and light metals and plastics.
How can I recycle correctly? The key to success is sorting—separating the recyclables out from your waste and placing items in the right bins:
Beverage containers Bring them to the beverage container recycling bins located in the common areas of your tower. The following towers have their own colour-coded bins: Henday: Grey | Mackenzie: White | Kelsey: Red Money collected for the deposits on these beverage containers supports the Lister Hall Students’ Association (LHSA).
All other recyclables Collect all other recyclables in your room. Empty and rinse the containers. Bring all recyclables outdoors to the blue recycling bin located in your floor’s common area. When this blue recycling bin is full, coordinate with your floor to bring the load of recyclables down to the Mackenzie or Schäffer loading docks and place into the larger blue recycling bins.
Waste Housekeeping staff will collect all other waste. If you have anything that needs to be removed more quickly, collect it in a bag and bring it down to the landfill compactor located in either the Mackenzie or Schäffer loading dock.
Where are the bins located? Blue recycling bins and beverage container recycling bins are located in the common areas on each floor. Larger blue recycling bins and waste compactors are located in the Mackenzie and Schäffer loading docks.
What do I need? It’s simple! All you need are two small containers, one for recyclables and one for waste. You’ll also need some garbage bags.
Where do the contents go after I put them in the bins? Recyclables are picked up by a contracted hauler and brought to a materials recovery facility where they are further sorted for recycling. Waste is collected by a contracted hauler and brought to a landfill.
