editorial 5 Ways on How To Be More Security Conscious

A

happy New Year to our ardent readers. Seeing as it is an election year and with the spate of insecurities around us, we will be looking at how best to increase our consciousness towards security issues. Below are 5 tips on how to do that. Be Unpredictable – Randomness The enemy while understudying a target looks for consistent patterns in your daily life. You follow the same route to and from work, you always drink or club or party or keep late nights every Friday, you use one password for all your ATM cards, the same taxi cab takes you to work every day or takes your kids to school. The more predictable you become, the easier it is for the enemy to strike. They will simply plan an attack based on your predictable patterns of life. If you return from work the same time every day, the enemy can plan an attack at that exact time. So allow some form of randomness in your life. As they say, the only constant thing in life is change, likewise, try to change some static patterns in your life that can be used as clues by the enemy to strike. Be Secretive – Talk Less Don't share personal information with strangers. The enemy works with information before striking. The more they know, the more accurate the attack. The less they know, the less accurate the attack. So how can you protect yourself? By keeping your mouth shut. Learn not to share private information in public places such as in the bus, beer parlour, church, school or any other public gatherings. You never know who is sitting close by eaves dropping on your conversation. Also when on the phone, don't call out aloud the amount of money you are discussing. Just by mentioning the amount loudly, anyone around can spread the information to the enemy. Always lower your voice while on the phone especially while discussing business! Be Accountable – Keep Records Nothing is missing if there's no record of its existence. One good way to guard

against theft of properties or valuable items is to ensure proper records are kept. This is especially true if you are away from home or work. Keep track of Charles C. Iloka your money, keep track of your luggage and keep track of your time. Avoid any unnecessary discussions with strangers who may be using delay tactics to tie you down while the enemy is working. In your business, take accurate stocks of your goods. You can never trust your workers enough and even if you do trust them, how about your customers? Without closely monitoring your inventory, customers who visit your business premises can make away with your goods. Be Accompanied – Never Walk Alone As much as possible, try not to walk alone especially during odd hours. If you are leaving home early to work, make friends with someone else on your street who leaves as early as you do too. If you come home late from work, and you live in a lonely neighbourhood, ask your family member to wait up for you mid way. And if you don't have a family member who can wait up for you mid way, talk to the local night guard on your street and have them walk you home. The probability of being attacked when alone is much higher than when you are accompanied. This is why police officers have partners. Despite the fact that they are armed, they are sent out in two and never alone. Be Insured – Securing Your Loss No matter how security conscious one can be, there are some threats, risk or dangers that are outside your direct control. These are natural occurrences like fire, flood, tornadoes, accident, etc. Because they are not man-made, they are hardly prevented. So the only way to minimize threats, risks or dangers caused by nature is to insure your losses. Meaning, insurance is a good security measure. Even we the providers of security make use of insurance. < More at: www.blog.damognigeria.com

ts been about 72 hours so far at the camp. The days are long and the nights pitch black, cold and haunted. The nearby bushes come alive with the presence of insects and animals who are probably investigating our presence in their territory. Two large snakes were killed in a nearby hostel. Some corp members who know what they do well skinned and barbecued them for dinner. The smell had my attention and regardless of my beliefs, it would have been a crime not to salivate. The unusually large mosquitoes have proven the biggest challenge. I had the worst malaria a week later. Getting a good nights sleep under such circumstances is no easy feat especially with my waist bag containing my cash strapped to my waist for fear of theft. The blast of the cold night wind on my Shiny skin cut hair only served to remind me why I should have come with a sweater. I’m already missing my bed and my girlfriend. The nearest town is about a mile away. Sneaking out is not an option. The soldiers have fortified the entire place. The bushes are well equipped with

motion sensors. Even the skies light up at night to reveal the presence of hot air balloon monitoring equipment as they have made us to believe. There are a total of 1982 corpers in the camp after screening. A pregnant lady was sent home. Another for fake credentials and a host of others exempted due to strong ties to Oga at the top. So far its been fun mingling and interacting with people from different and diverse backgrounds. From the good, bad, beautiful, ugly and weird. Everyone seems to have an agenda. Some have seen the camp as solitude.

To some a need to give back to the country. Some as an opportunity to escape the usual day life and the responsibility that comes with it. Some as fun and for some who are already working. An unnecessary evil. To others to crave for attention, brag about their accomplishments and put their political skills to the test and pray they end up as platoon or room leaders. This eventually by a stroke of good fortune might lead to them being posted to state capital or any favorable community they so desire. From the usual morning hustle

do you know?

and bucket line up for bath water to the fields and then kitchen. The food only helps to inspire fear factor America, so I stucked with the delicacies the infamous Mami market had to provide for the time being. For those who had money to spend, food wasn't a problem. Making friends has never been this easy. There re different clicks of course. Those who speak the same language. Those who are of the same school, state or tribe and those who have a common interest and find the need to discuss issues at hand like politics, football, poetry, technology and not forgetting the unusually beautiful female corpers in camp with us. Three whole days without light. Rain had fallen on day one. And the nepa officials were still waiting for the electric cables to dry. Since there was little or no sun, as we were told. It was soon time for bed. I have a bucket of water beneath my bunk. A ploy to avoid the morning water hustling curfew. I closed my eyes and dreamt of home, the warmth it had to offer. I was awoken by the sound of trumpet and a soldier shaking my bed and blowing a whistle as he raced true the building. It’s already day four. With My towel and purse still strapped to my waist, I got ready for the bathroom. I bent down to retrieve my bucket of water. It was gone… <

Nigeria's February 2015 Elections

Presidential Candidates

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and Arch. Namadi Sambo

A

lthough there are 26 registered political parties in Nigeria, only 11 have submitted names of candidates to run for the presidency. Of all the 11 candidates, only J o n ath an an d B u h ar i w er e candidates in the last election in 2011. The media hysteria about Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), respectively, is such that the average Nigerian could be misled into summing up the February 14, 2015 election as a duel. But this is not a in any way a two-way PDP-APC race. There are, in fact, nine other Nigerians who are hoping to become president of the country in May 2015. They may not hold public attention in the same manner as the two frontrunners, but ask them where they see themselves in another six months, and they would say nothing but Aso Rock. OLUREMI SONAIYA (KOWA) A professor of French and applied linguistics, is the only female running for the presidency. She is running on the platform of Kowa Party. The 59-year-old is the first Nigerian to be appointed as Ambassador Scientist of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, a position she occupied from 2008 to 2014. Until it stopped publishing, Sonaiya was a blogger for 234 Next. She is currently a columnist with The Niche, a weekly (Sunday) newspaper. A devout Christian, she

believes “frankly” that an ordinary person like her is needed to run the affairs of the nation as a true representative of the people. “I am running based on the strong conviction that somebody needed to do this – I mean somebody ordinary, a true representative of the people,” she revealed in her mission statement. CHEKWAS OKORIE (UPP) The pioneer national chairman of the United Progressive Party (UPP), which he co-founded after his departure from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), one other party he co-founded. An influential chief in Abia state, Okorie was a bosom friend of late Biafra leader Odimegwu Ojukwu, and is expected to have the support of many lovers of the late lieutenant colonel. TUNDE ANIFOWOSE-KELANI (AA) He is currently the managing director and chairman of Siegener Sabithos Nigeria Limited, a provider of secretarial services, communication services, support, training, counseling and courier services in and outside the country. Anifowose-Kelani, who holds a bachelor degree in personnel psychology and counseling, and another Master’s in personnel psychology, was chairman of his party, Action Alliance. He would be representing the party at the 2015 presidential poll. GANIYU GALADIMA (ACPN) Current National chairman of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), was ratified as the party’s presidential acndidate by the party’s

delegates at a convention held in Abuja earlier in the month. Galadima is a muslim who believes “strongly in the need to end impunity in Nigeria”. Galadima’s ACNP once moved for the prosecution of Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN), who the party believed has been canvassing votes for Jonathan all along, against the dictates of the electoral law. RAFIU SALAU (AD) Rafiu Salau is the national secretary of the Alliance for Democracy. He believes that he is “the best candidate” for the 2015 presidential election. “I’m the best candidate because I know the feelings of the people better than any presidential candidate. I am also better than President Goodluck Jonathan,” he said. “I know the solutions to the nation’s problems. I know the type of economy Nigeria needs to survive and succeed. I know how to make our nation be the first in Africa. “To expand the economy, 30 per cent of the oil revenue shall be used for capital goods for development of businesses that will ensure economic growth. “The population of unemployed Nigerians is more than many developed countries. To solve the problem of unemployment in Nigeria, every state shall have industrial city. And a state shall be

Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo

created for the unemployed Nigerians. Developing the economy of the state will create jobs for them.” He also believes that driving the economy to a world-class standard requires 50 per cent of revenue generation from personal income tax. GODSON OKOYE (UDP) He is a lawyer who contested the Anambra gubernatorial election in 2010 and came fourth despite running on the platform of a nascent political party, United Democratic Party (UDP). He re-contested in 2013 and performed poorly, polling just 153 votes to come out as the aspirant with the least number of votes. He is one of those who believe in a power shift to the younger generation of Nigerians. He would be running on the same platform through which he contested the 2007 and 2011 elections. He “believes strongly in change in all key sectors in Nigeria”. MARTIN ONOVO (NCP) Martin Onovo is an engineer by training. He graduated from the University of Ibadan and the University of Houston. In 2011, he contested for the presidency under Oluremi Sonaiya the platform of Action Alliance (AA). However, this time, he is running on the ticket of the late Gani Fawehinmi’s National Conscience Party (NCP). His belief is that the opposition (APC) is nothing but the same as the ruling PDP, and that he is the right man to solve the myriads of problem facing the country and collective commonweal. Onovo is Chekwas Okorie member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. Little is known of Ambrose Albert, candidate of Hope Democratic Party (HDP) and Nani Ibrahim Ahmad, who will be running on the ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). < Tunde Anifowose-Kelani

overnor Ayo Fayose is a distinguished leader of our party. A democratically-elected governor and someone we have immense respect and affection for, but he released this advert in his own name. That represents his own personal opinion, which he is entitled to. What i can tell you on our part, as the presidential campaign organization, is that it does not represent the opinion of the campaign organization or indeed that of the president. - Femi Fani Kayode (PDP presidential campaign organization spokesperson) Our president and his allies must remember that he is not only a candidate for office; he is the president of Nigeria. We have not spoken about the president's family, his health, his religion, his ethnic group, or his phone number. - Muhammadu Buhari (Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress)

he National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.), says the Federal Government is planning to introduce a law that will ban and block all porn websites in the country. He stated this at the closing ceremony of a three-day workshop on use of social media organised for Islamic preachers, Imams and youths in Kaduna on Sunday. The News Agency of Nigeria Days ago i tweeted dat people (NAN) reports that the who surround GEJ are the ones workshop, which was organised who put him in the mess he is in by the national body of Izalatil now. I was called names. Fayose just confirmed it - Ali Baba (Comedian) I was so traumatized that Nigeria could sink as low as the front page PDP adverts to choose life... i thought i was in a bad dream. We do need psychiatrists to certify many who claim to be politicians in Nigeria. Now that some are playing god and dreaming who lives, I fear. - Prof. Pat Utomi (A Professor of Political Economy and Management Expert and a former Presidential Candidate.) In the spirit of the peace accord signed by presidential candidates, I plead with President Jonathan to distance himself from Fayose’s hocuslocus. - Dele Momodu ( Publisher )

Bid’a Wa’iqamatis Sunna (JIBWIS), aimed at correcting anomalies in the use of social media. Dasuki, who was represented by the Minister of Special Duties, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki, said: “Government is planning to ban and block websites that inculcate negative attitudes in our children but we need a law to support such move. “Because without a law, people can go to court and claim infringement on their rights.” he said. <

re you are a parent or a guardian? I believe you know that children of all ages loves to surf the web and even play some online games. This can be great fun for your children as well as good source of information but it can also be a bit nerve racking when you think of young children having full access to wide range of content that is available on the internet. You might install some type of parental controls on your child's internet access to make sure that they can only access websites with content that is appropriate with their age. Luckily, most computers have already been built with those parental control settings.

Though the blocks work well, the control cannot limit all inappropriate contents your children can access on the web. These blocks can identify pornographic content as well as violent ones but there are still some things which can slip

friends in Facebook. Always keep in mind that word of mouth advertising is the most powerful and effective form of advertising. These are just some of the reasons why you should join Facebook for your business. through these filtering devices. A great way to create a safety net that will allow you to find out what your children are accessing on the web is to install a key logger device on the computer. A key logger is a software you can purchase at a computer store

or buy and download it on the internet. Its work is not specifically to block any specific content but it's designed to see what an individual views and what they type while they are online. This would be very helpful to put you in touch with what your kids are doing while they are online and you are not around. It is password protected so that you will be the only one who can access it. It will let you know who they are talking to and what websites they are visiting. This can help you get a feel for exactly what your child is doing on the web. Having this software means that you can allow your child to use the web unattended and still know exactly what is going on.<

Basics of Fundamental Analysis in the Forex Market

T

raders typically approach financial markets in one of two ways: either through technical analysis or fundamental analysis. The reality is that history is full of traders who have had very successful careers as traders that employed both of these types of analyses. In fact, in Jack Schwager's bestselling classic, Market Wizards, two of the traders interviewed are Ed Seykota and Jim Rogers. Rogers is quite adamant in his statement that he believes it is impossible to make a living as a technical trader. He goes so far as to say he has never met a rich technician. Seykota actually shares the exact opposite story. According to Seykota's own interview, he was a struggling trader when he traded according to fundamental analysis. It was not until he became a technician that he started to make a living trading financial markets. As stated, successful traders th r o u g h o u t h is to r y h av e employed both technical and fundamental analysis. In this article we are going to break down the basic principles of fundamental analysis in the forex market. Fundamental Analysis is commonly defined as a method

of evaluating a specific security in order to determine its intrinsic value by analyzing a host of economic and financial data. In the foreign-exchange market, a security would be a currency. Market participants are continually analyzing the emerging fundamental from a country in order to determine the intrinsic value of the country's currency. There are several key economic indicators that every trader should understand on a basic level. Fluctuations in the data of these key indicators will generally cause the value of a currency to rise and fall. Interest Rates These are the single greatest driver of currency value over the long-term. Most Central Banks announce interest rates each month, and these decisions are watched very scrupulously by market participants. Interest rates are manipulated by Central Banks in order to control the money supply in an economy. If a Central Bank wants to increase the money supply, it lowers interest rates, and if it wants to decrease money supply it raises interest rates. Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

GDP is the most important indicator of economic health in a country. A country's Central Bank has expected growth outlooks each year that determine how fast a country should grow as measured by GDP. When GDP falls below market expectations, currency values tend to fall and when GDP beats market expectations, currency values tend to rise. Inflation Inflation destroys the real purchasing power of a currency, and, therefore, inflation is very bad for the economy in most circumstances. Each year a normal rate of inflation between 2-3% is expected, but if inflation begins moving beyond the upward targets set by the Central Bank, a currency value will actually rise due to expectation of an imminent rate hike. Higher interest rates tend to fight off inflation. Unemployment We will discuss consumer demand in a moment, but people are basically what drive economic growth; therefore, unemployment is the backbone of economic growth. When unemployment levels increase, it has a devastating effect on economic growth; consequently, when the labor

mark et contracts and unemployment increases, interest rates are often cut in an attempt to increase the money supply in the economy and stimulate economic growth. Consumer Demand As stated in the previous point, people are what drive economic growth; as a result, healthy consumer demand is essential to the normal, healthy functioning o f a n e c o n o m y. W h e n consumers are demanding goods and services, the economy tends to move forward, but when consumers are not demanding goods and services, the economy falters. Even if you are a technical trader, it can still be very helpful to understand these basic elements of fundamental analysis. The best forex course will oftentimes offer further insight into how the emerging fundamentals drive price behavior.< For further guide on Forex matters, contact. M r. Ph ilip M a ch i 08068956205

hardware & gadgets

Top Gadgets to expect In 2015 S

ome cool new gadgets came into our homes in 2014, but with technology rapidly increasing and improving, 2015 will quickly bring new gadgets to replace them. Here are the top eight gadgets and innovations that are anticipated to hit the consumer market in 2015. Apple Watch — The release of Apple's smart watch is probably the most anticipated for 2015. The Apple Watch wasannounced in September along with the release of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The watch is set to hit markets early 2015. It will have different designs and apps that users can modify.

Oculus Rift — The virtual reality gadget has generated a lot of buzz in the past year with developers, but a consumer version will finally hit the market in the summer of 2015. Virtual reality has gained a lot of popularity with the video game industry, tourism industry and the entertainment industry. Virtual reality has also attracted a lot of companies to produce their own gadgets, Oculus VRis not the only option in the market. Samsung and Sony will also release VR head gear.

The world was introduced to the iPhone 6, smart wearables and Google's Nest in 2014, but there are more innovative and exciting gadgets to come in 2015. The Dash — These new

Project Ara — Google and Motorola may introduce what will be the only phone you'll ever need. Project Ara is a phone with modular upgrading. In other words, you can remove and replace the parts of your phone that need fixing as you please without having to buy a new phone. For example, if a new camera were to come out with higher pixels then all you have to do is buy a camera. The screen is also replaceable, so you no longer have to worry about cracked screens costing you over $150.

Cheaper 4K TVs — One of 2014's buzzwords was 4K TV, but just as high as the hype was, the price was too. A 4K TV can cost a consumer anywhere from $1,000 up to $39,999.98. The 4K resolution is said to go mainstream in 2015 and replace 1080p. LG and Sony are expected to release a new 4K TV into the market — hopefully it doesn't cost more than a month's rent to purchase the cheapest one.

NYMI — Using your finger print to unlock you phone is cool, but using your heartbeat is cooler. he life of a young man, Charles Bankole Orisanya from Akoko in Ondo State, who was working with Halliburton in Rivers State ended sadly and brutally on September 19, 2014 when his 26year-old girlfriend, Loretta Odikagbo, snuffed life out of him. She was however apprehended almost three m o n t h s a f t e r, p r e c i s e l y December 9, 2014 after a painstaking investigation by the Homicide Section of the Rivers State Police Command. Senior police officers who investigated the case said that the method of killing was an uncommon one in Nigeria, as Miss Odikagbo, popularly called Loretta, and two accomplices allegedly tapered late Orisanya’s mouth, hands and legs before covering his head with a polythene bag. Loretta was said to have sat on the deceased’s head while one of the accomplices, Ime Francis Moses Jnr., held his neck until he became lifeless. Loretta Odikagbo, a student of Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori, met Orisanya on Badoo network and they started dating online. They connected physically and the relationship blossomed over the next months. Along the line, Loretta fell out of love with her lover. And the reason she gave was that her lover boy was not fulfilling his promises. The deceased, who was in his early 30s, was a civil engineer and a staff of Halliburton Company at Trans-Amadi area of Port Harcourt, it was learnt. he Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has been commended for helping to recover $2000 for an American victim of love scam, Margaret Sanders, just as the agency announce the recovery of $23,886 for another victim. Sanders who lives in Sherman, Texas, made the commendation after she was presented with a cheque for the sum by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI. She expressed delight at the professionalism demonstrated by the Nigerian agency in helping to recover the money which she thought she had lost to the scammer. The FBI agent who made the presentation lauded the cooperation with the EFCC, while explaining that the FBI only facilitated the repatriation of the money after it was recovered by the EFCC. Sanders met a suspected Nigerian fraudster, Benjamin Akugbe, online and fell in love with him. The scammer who claimed to be Benny Brown from Warri, Delta State, promised her marriage, and requested for the sum of $2000.00USD to enable him join her in United States of America. The money was wired to him through Western Union, into an

hired two men to go with her and hid them under the staircase of the lover’s residence. In order not to arouse any suspicion, Loretta released herself totally to her lover and engaged in a passionate love making session with him. After the man climaxed, he rolled off and got ready for sleep. The lady was said to have quietly opened the door to let the two accomplices in. Pointing a gunlike object at Bankole, Loretta and the boys used a rope and masking tape to tie his hands and legs. Satisfied that she had dealt with her lover, Loretta left for an Automated Teller Machine to collect all the cash in Bankole’s account. Of course, she had earlier collected the secret pin from him under duress. Not done, the lady was said to have returned and had gone to her lover ’s kitchen to pick a polythene bag to cover his head after taping his mouth, and sat on his head. One of the accomplices, Moses, held the man’s neck until he gave up the ghost. The two men also took their victim’s shirts, shoes and other personal items while Loretta went for his LG phone and laptop. <

account with the name, Gladys Ikpoba domiciled with a new generation bank. After an endless wait for the fiancé, Sanders came to the sad realisation that she had been duped. But her efforts to recover the money were unsuccessful until she petitioned the EFCC. The latest recovery of $23,886 by the Commission was made in similar circumstances, for Jolanta Kasza, an American based in New York. She was fleeced of $64,000 by a suspected Nigerian Fraudster, Ndekwu Jindu (aka Dr. Daniel Coffman ) in a romance scam. Kasza allegedly met Coffman online in June 2012, and the fraudster introduced himself as self employed Caucasian pharmacist. Impressed by the profile, Kasza “fe l in love” with both agreeing to get married. According to her, in the course of the affair, the suspect at different times requested for money under various guise. Before she realised that she was dealing with a con artist, she had lost $64,000 USD to the fraudster. She consequently petitioned the EFCC, which through discreet investigation recovered $23,886 USD. The agency is in the process of repatriating the fund to the victim. <

Mother In Law Interference Crashes Wedding Plans.

M

y fiancee and I dated for 2yrs,we were so in love, he proposed and i accepted. Both families and friends knew about us and there was no objection. We chose a date for the formal introduction and traditional marriage, and both families gave their approval. Then all of a sudden, my mother in-law to be invited a Pastor to

pray over the marriage. This pastor ended up causing serious confusion. The pastor after his so-called prayer, said that the marriage should not hold and that every arrangement should be cancelled, because the Lord said that if we get married, that the marriage will break up in future. To my greatest surprise, my fiancee and his family accepted

that prophecy and decided to do as the pastor said. My fiancee said that there is nothing he can do about it, that the whole family is against the marriage because the man of God has spoken. I am in tear,I am so confused, so heart broken. This is how my relationship of 2yrs ended. How do i cope with this heartbreak. <

the relationship. I have a 2005 corolla I drive, I am the one who maintain it, fuel it and even be the driver every time we are going out. I am still teaching him how to drive, how to get a driver’s licence which I will pay for, and how not to crash the car or someone else's cos I know I’ll be the one to pay for fixing. He wanted us to get married come Feb 2015, but is this what I really want to do now? The house he is even staying is nothing to write home about not to talk of bringing in a wife. His house rent is 30k a year while mine is 180k, on top of that Na my hand him go collect am. I am tired of being the man in the relationship, am tired of telling him to be the man even, tired of pushing him with words to avoid him been depressed.

If I rush now to marry because of my age, won't I send him packing from our home? Obviously I will be paying all bills. I have a house project at hand in Ibeju Lekki, he is expecting that I complete one part of the flat on time so we can move in as husband and wife. Honestly, this baffles me. How long will I continue being the husband? Life is too short to worry too much, but nature I cant cheat. I had fibroid surgery 2yrs back in Royal Free Hospital in the UK and doctors tell me I should try and take-in after 6months to avoid recurrence. Honestly life has a way of playing with your temper, but I have given life 100 reasons to be strong and happy irrespective of the situation and the condition and stay put, but for how long? <

Chronicles Of A Lover Girl

I

am a very hard working lady with a paying job, born October 1980, I struggle to make it in life. Though am no orphan because I still have a dad, but I am the bread winner of the family as my brothers and sisters depend on me than my dad. The burden I carry in the family is way heavier than me as I find it difficult to resist. On top of all this, I have been living life as a sadist since 2007, no not because of the burden, but because I am single, lonely and confused. SINGLE. At age 34 I am single. Do you know how it is to shed secret tears? That is how it has been with me since the last 7years, at a point I can't go down on my kneels without crying, I shut the doors behind me, weep for hours then come out with a smile. I try not to show my moody self because I don't like being consoled and I can't tell

He wanted us to get married come Feb 2015, but is this what I really want to do now?... How long will I continue being the husband?

people the reason am crying is because am yet to find a husband material. At age 34 I look 25, people find it difficult to believe I am 34 already. I get toasters but mostly 8yrs younger than me. At a time I have given up on marriage, but the thought of friends telling me how much of a wife material i am. LONELY. I hardly go out because in this part of the world any woman hanging out alone is a hawker / prostitute. No man / boyfriend to take me out. I do have male friends I talk with once in a while, but for how long, the guys too have their babes to attend to, besides most of the guys are younger than me, though they think we are age mates because of my stature. CONFUSED. I have a lovely boyfriend / Fiance whom I have been seeing for more than 3yrs now; yes it is true he loves me to the moon and back, but life hasn't been fair to him. Since he graduated in 2008, he’s been jobless up till this moment. With no a penny to his name, I am compelled to pick all bills most of the time. The last time, he borrowed money from me to pay his house rent. He collects money for things even though he knows the burden I shoulder at home. Most time I am the man in

on a Serious Note How long will Nigerians remain fools? - By Etcetera

I

n Nigeria, there are three classes of people: The Masses, The Politicians, and The Rich. The masses are the puppets, the politicians the hand that controls the puppets and the rich the hand that controls the politicians. The politicians have the system totally rigged in their favour. They have made it compulsory for the masses to vote from a list selected by them knowing that as blind as the masses are, they may never realise they can actually have a choice. In the upcoming presidential election, the masses have been given no choice but to choose between two candidates forced upon them by the politicians. What if Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan are not exactly what the masses want? Are we going to have recourse when they fail as they always do, to honour their promises? There seems to be a spot in every Nigerian, a soft spot in our consciousness like the one in a baby’s head, which, if pressed or stroked in the right way, reduces us to giggling children with mouths full of candy. That spot is what I call a “Mumu Button.” And any person that finds and presses that mumu button in Nigerians is on the road to wealth and power. As a youth, my faith in this nation is disappearing like a fart in a wind storm. I have seen that even the most intelligent and educated Nigerians, when you press their mumu button, they turn into docile drooling puppy dogs, panting happily. Obviously,

every politician in this country understands this, but for some reason, the masses don’t. My mumu button has been pressed many times too, but unlike many people, mine has become calloused due to misuse and abuse. But since I realised what the politicians are, they can’t press my mumu button anymore. I see politicians as conmen, I see them like those Ebonyi State boys trying to sell fake wrist watches to me in traffic, I see them like pastors. They are always too eager to sell their plans and schemes, to convince us that their government will bring “change,” and if we support their candidates, we will be led out of the darkness into light. And somehow in every election, an amazing number of us fall for it. We keep buying the scam over and over. With Buhari and Jonathan, we have again swallowed the same con hook, line, sinker, rod, reel, creel, boat, motor, and even the river, down our throats like a starving dog would gulp a piece of rotten meat without sniffing it first. Why does Buhari want to be president so badly? Who is really financing Goodluck J o n a t h a n ’s N 2 1 b i l l i o n campaign and at what cost to the nation if he gets reelected? When will the masses pull their numbers on the streets and demand for the simple things of life? Are we ever going to stop rolling over our backs with our legs wide open like a prostitute waiting for her customer? With everything we see in the media,

to be a successful politician depends on talk, or more precisely, smooth talk. The masses love smooth talk. It lulls us into some kind of euphoric state. With smooth talks, they have convinced most Nigerians that night is day, bad is good, and most recently, stealing is not the same as corruption. It saddens me whenever I see a group of people arguing that Buhari is better suited for the presidency than Goodluck Jonathan or vise versa. Therein lies the con of all: can’t we see that both candidates are being financed by the same group of individuals? That’s right, the very same people. Whoever becomes the president on February 14 is still their choice.

The elections are nothing but theatrical productions to keep us distracted and pacified so we won’t revolt and demand better government. To some of you naive souls who are still under the spell of all the jangbajantis they taught you in school, let me explain what election truly is in Nigeria: the next president will only get into office by playing ball with the likes of the Dangotes and other power brokers, and by telling you and me what we want to hear. I have heard things like, his running mate is a pastor, he is holy and credible. My friend, by the time anybody gets to be presidential material, he’s been bought ten times over. <
