editorial The Misunderstandings of Social Networking Website
F
irst of, let me wish you, our dear readers, a Happy New Year. Thanks for joining us as we introduce the maiden publication of Offline Newsletter. We’ll keep you posted with happenings around the world of Information technology and IT in general. The good news, its all for free! With each new technology that manages to make it big in our culture, there is always a potential of it ruining our youths. Whether it is television, video games, or social networking websites, there is bound to be an addictive nature. Social Networking Websites (SNS) have become a potent vice for many of our youth culture, far beyond any other type of media before it. With video games, for every hundred million players there are a selected few who are truly addicted to playing games to the point at which it begins to interfere with their everyday lives, SNS addiction (or at least obsession) is a problem for a large number of youths. What is it that makes SNS such as Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, BBM, Myspace, Badoo,
etc, so consuming that we become unable to exit once logged in?
Charles C. Iloka Flora Awele Utti Obiora Nzobiwu
DESIGN
Many of the reasons why young people say they enjoy Facebook is centered around the concept that SNS allows them to research and better understand other individuals. However because the content of SNS is completely created or monitored by the individual user, it is no way an accurate tool for judging character. SNS gives the users opportunity to create whatever identity they wish, their only limit to who they present themselves as is their own imagination, and that is the problem. While most users might not completely lie about their true identity, users still have final say on what pictures of them appear on their profiles, as well as the information they choose to disclose (or withhold) from their profiles. This is the reason why SNS can't be trusted as accurate representations of someone's identity or character, because rather than show this person as they really are, it only tells us how that person wishes to be seen by those around them.

Top Android Device to look out for in 2014 1 HTC One
H
TC needed to deliver a stunning phone to reverse its ailing fortunes – and the One might just be the HTC one. From the gloriously rich full HD screen to the seamless, precision-engineered aluminum body, it's a marvel of design. The HTC One is a product designed to save a company in financial trouble – and it seems HTC's design and engineering team worked well with their backs against the wall. This Android phone is the best product HTC has ever built, with a gorgeously thin, reassuringly rigid aluminium body bonded to
the 4.7-inch screen by a technique that doesn't leave a single gap. And speaking of the screen, it's eyeballpiercingly sharp, with a 1080p full HD resolution and Retina display-spanking pixel density of 468ppi. It's one of a handful of phones that can be mentioned in the same breath as the iPhone when it comes to looks and build quality. Performance is also impressive, with the quadcore processor blazing through tasks with the 4MP Ultrapixel camera serving up some of the finest snaps we've ever seen from a smartphone.
2 Samsung Galaxy Note 3
W
e all knew it was coming, but now its official – the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is here. To t i n g a n e w a n d improved faux leather back, that's available in a
myriad of colours, as well as a 5.7-inch full HD display, this is the 'phablet' to beat. Samsung has also beefed up the software features, adding in an improved S-
Note app and useful quick menu. Powering this rather large device is quad-core processor, paired with 3GB of RAM and you'll have a choice between 32GB or 64GB of internal storage.
3 Sony Xperia Z1
T
he latest flagship phone from Sony, and taking over from the pretty impressive Xperia Z, the Z1 is a powerhouse – both in terms of processor and camera. Under the svelte chassis is a Qualcomm Snapdragon
800 quad-core processor, whilst taking care of the all important photos is a 20.7 megapixel camera with Exmor RS tech and a BIONZ image processor. It's fully waterproof, svelte looking and packing an impressive, 1080p display.

Cool things you can do on your Android
T
he Samsung Galaxy S4 is certainly a smartphone of great beauty and is packed with features that make it an improvement on the Galaxy S3. Jumping from a 4.8-inch display to an almost Note-like 5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, the Galaxy S4 promises 441 ppi which is a massive jump in terms of clarity. The impressive 13megapixel camera puts it up with the Xperia Z in terms of snapping and while it's not packing an O c t o c o r e p r o c e s s o r, quadcore power is more than enough to power the S4, just not enough to topple the HTC One.
1. Connect to a USB Flash Drive Every Android phone has a Micro USB port that is used for charging and for transferring files to and from your PC. Most people do not know however, that by simply connecting a USB On The Go (OTG) adapter cable to your Android phone, you can actually access a USB flash drive on your phone and transfer files to and from the USB device on to your phone. This feature will even work with an SD card reader that connects to a USB dongle. This means you can transfer files to and from a digital camera without ever having to use a PC, and then upload them right after. 2. Allow Remote Access from Your PC With a remote access app installed, you can control your phone from a Web browser on your desktop. You can also use such as remote desktop apps such as 2X or Splashtop 2 Remote Desktop to control your PC from your phone.
5 LG G2 The LG's latest flagship smartphone is going toe-totoe with Samsung's Galaxy S4 - in both specs and the wide variety of added features LG has decked this device out with. From a guest mode to automated phone answering, this phone almost completely covers Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean in the UX skin. Specs are rather impressive too, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, a gorgeous high-res IPS LCD 1080p display and either 16GB or 32GB options for the internal storage. Only time will tell if this can rival the Samsung Galaxy S4 in terms of sales, and popularity.
Paga Now Lets You Make Cardless Withdrawals From ATM Machines
F
a s t e s t growing m o b i l e payment service in Nigeria, Paga announced that you can now make withdrawals from an ATM machine without your ATM card. So if you want to withdraw money from your Paga account or you want to transfer money to someone from your Paga
account, the money can be withdrawn without a card from any GTBank or First B a n k AT M nationwide. Once you send money to someone or initiate a withdrawal from your Paga account, that is, between N1,000 and N20,000 (per transaction), you (or the individual) can use the 12 digit
3. Act As a Security Camera You're finally eligible for a phone upgrade, but now that you've gotten that shiny new quad-core super phone, what do you do with your 2011-era handset? You could leave it in a drawer gathering dust, pass it off to your mom or sell it. But if that device runs Android, you could also turn it into a security camera you can use to monitor the nanny or keep an eye on the cats while you're away from home. You can access the feed over the Internet, right from your new phone. 4. Use a Mouse and Keyboard With USB OTG cable, your phone can not only interface with storage ports, but also interface with an external mouse and keyboard. On its own, your phone emits enough power to connect a typical wired or wireless mouse. However, if you want to connect a keyboard as well, you'll need to route your connection through a powered USB hub. 5. Turn into a Wireless Mouse or Touchpad Whether you're making a presentation on your PC or sitting on the couch watching it play a video on a huge external monitor, you're going to need some kind of wireless keyboard or mouse to control it. If you could spend some money for a wireless pointing device like the Genius Ring Presenter, then why not use your Android phone? With Remote Mouse, you can use your phone as a wireless keyboard and mouse for your computer. Touchpad apps such as Advanced Touchpad also support pinch-to-zoom.

6. Listen to Live AM Radio Your smartphone enables you sslisten to a live event, tune in to a talk show or get the latest traffic update, sometimes a $10 AM radio seems better. Fortunately, if you install a free app called Tune In, you can get a live stream of almost any AM or FM stations. The pro version of the app even lets you record radio broadcasts.

TOP Work Tools for every OFFICE HP Chromebook 11 Like the bigger, and much more expensive Pixel, the Chromebook 11 only runs Google's very limited browser-based OS. But it also costs just ÂŁ229, has a genuinely excellent screen and keyboard, and charges via MiniUSB rather than a traditional laptop charger. It's a storming machine for the price, as long as you're able to live within Google's walled garden.
Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p Sony VAIO Tap 11 Slim and stylish design. Wireless keyboard cover. Adjustable kickstand. Includes digitizer pen and apps for handwritten note taking and pen-compatible screen clipping. The Sony VAIO Tap 11 might be the best looking tablet PC we've reviewed, but while the tablet is attractive, the performance leaves something to be desired.
An Intel Core i7 processor and dual-GPU system offers solid performance in gaming and productivity. Swappable Ultrabay options let you reconfigure your system as needed. Display, sound, and keyboard are all well made. The Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p gaming laptop offers modular upgrades and a sleek design.
Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus
ACER Aspire S7
High-resolution display boasts 3,200-by-1,800 resolution and 10-finger touch. Slim light weight design. Premium materials. Fourth-generation Intel Core i5 processor and 128GB solid-state drive keep things speedy. Long battery life. Dual-band Wi-Fi. Hinge stands up to touch but still opens wide. The Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus goes toe to toe with the best premium ultrabooks, then tops it off with a jaw-dropping high-resolution display.
The S7 is the same weight as the Macbook Air, has a great 1920 x 1080 pixels (touch) screen and is actually a little thinner than Apple's signature laptop. It has a lower-quality battery, though, and while it's cheaper by about ÂŁ60 you might want to make sure Windows is that crucial for your workflow before making your choice.
