Welcome It is with both pleasure and pride that I provide this introduction to the latest edition of Offshore Holland. The Dutch oil and gas industry belongs to the Top 5 in the world. More than 40 years of experience and knowledge in the oil, gas and maritime industry has given the Netherlands a leading position in Europe and the rest of the world. Our maritime history and our position as a logistic hub make us a leading global knowledge economy. We can offer the UAE a unique combination of technological strength and our pragmatic, problem-solving attitude. I am therefore delighted to welcome the Dutch participants from the oil and gas sector to the annual Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) in the energy capital of Abu Dhabi taking place from 7th November till 10th of 2016.
For more than 30 years, oil and gas professionals have gathered in growing numbers for the ADIPEC. The 2016 edition will further build on the success of last year’s event, which welcomed more than 94,000 attendees from 125 countries. This year’s theme “Transitional Strategies for an Efficient & Resilient Energy Industry” will address a range of topics, from macroeconomic factors of the global energy landscape, to a range of plenary and technical sessions addressing more specific challenges, initiatives and methodologies for creating an efficient and resilient industry. It is undeniable that ADIPEC will take place in a global oil environment that has slowed down. However, I must stress that Dutch oil and gas companies, still prioritize

the UAE as an important business location because of its vibrant market and perspective for the future. Think of Shell, Boskalis, Van Oord, Fugro and IHC Merwede. In addition the Netherlands also boasts many SMEs who provide niche technologies to the oil and gas industry here. For example, many of the 60 companies at ADIPEC 2015 were SMEs looking to offer their expertise and niche solutions, especially in the offshore sector. Dutch companies have established longstanding ties with the UAE and have weathered several oil crises in the region. The cyclical nature of the oil and gas industry demands a long-term perspective, the Dutch are here for that long term. With this edition of ADIPEC, we are set once more to cement ties
with counterparts in the UAE and the Gulf. The Dutch pavilion this year will get a Holland+You touch. Holland+You is a communication and branding platform initiated by the Dutch Economic network in the GCC to enhance the economic relationship between our country and the GCC region. I’m happy to see IRO collaborating with Holland+You to increase the visibility of the Dutch offshore industry during ADIPEC 2016. I look forward to welcoming you and to successful matchmaking between Dutch companies and local and regional partners at the ADIPEC 2016. ‘Energy efficiency and sustainable development are key’
“Looking at the energy market in the Middle East, energy efficiency as well as sustainable ways to meet the increasing demand in the region are key focus for Dutch suppliers in the oil and gas industry,” says Sander Vergroesen, Managing Director of IRO. Despite a slower progress at a number of projects and continuing challenges in the current market, he sees a stable level of activity of his member companies in the Gulf region.

‘Next to conventional fossil energy, we also see a substantial growth in the development of renewable energy sources.’
“The IEA has predicted that the demand for energy in the Middle East will see an explosive growth,” Vergroesen continues. “Over the past decade, energy consumption has grown more than twice as fast as the world average. Driven by an increase in population and the need to develop additional infrastructure, some prestigious projects involving the development of LNG facilities and increasing the region’s refinery capacity, have been completed.” Vergroesen is delighted to say that many of these projects have been realised in co-operation with specialised Dutch suppliers.”

Holland+You
Sander Vergroesen represents IRO, The Association of Dutch Suppliers in the Oil and Gas Industry, that has been promoting the interests of Dutch supply and service companies in the upstream oil and gas industry since its foundation in 1971. The 440 member companies cover all activities involved in the supply chain, such as engineering, field development, pipeline installation, maintenance, manufacturing and
Building on a solid collaboration with the Dutch government in the GCC countries, IRO also joined forces with the initiative Holland+You, launched by the Dutch embassies and consulate-general in the GCC. Vergroesen explains: “We are extremely happy to get the support of the Holland+You project, giving us the opportunity to enhance the visibility of the Dutch offshore industry during ADIPEC 2016.
IRO cooperates with several national and international organisations with similar interests. For the Gulf region, IRO, together with Association FME and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, participates in Dutch Energy Solutions (DES), a collaboration of oil and gas suppliers, R&D companies, associations and governmental bodies. The objective of the cluster is to establish on-going exchange of information, knowledge and business contacts with partners in the Gulf region.
Moreover, alongside the celebration of the 45th anniversary of our association IRO this year, we also celebrate our 10th anniversary of being present at the exhibition with a Holland pavilion. This year we have more than 25 exhibiting companies occupying a 480 square metres large pavilion in Hall 11.” Asking Vergroesen about future opportunities in the Gulf region, he says: “For the forthcoming years, it is expected that annual spending is to increase five per cent year-on-year from USD 6.6 billion to USD 7.4 billion over 2016-2020. Research indicates that there are still over USD 300 billion of oil, gas and petrochemicals project opportunities in the region. Next to conventional fossil energy, we also see a substantial growth in the development of renewable energy sources.” He concludes: “In this current market and looking at future predictions, the development of energy-related projects has a strong focus on energy efficiency by applying innovative techniques, as well as on sustainable solutions: exactly the strengths of many of our Dutch suppliers.”

In a region where between 65% and 95% of government revenues come from hydrocarbons, the recent slump in the oil price has, inevitably, had an impact across the different GCC economies. Although there is general consensus that lower oil prices are here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future, there are still a lot of growth opportunities in the region. Even despite the challenge of a continued downward pressure on government spending.
The Dutch Economic Government Network in the GCC aims to help Dutch businesses succeed in this increasingly challenging environment.

Holland+You is initiated to achieve this. It connects business needs in the region with Dutch solutions and offers a platform for interaction between
Dutch and Gulf business stakeholders online and offline. In this edition of Offshore Holland you can read all about this initiative.
2016

Holland+You is all about interaction
The GCC is an increasingly important trading partner for the Netherlands and the Dutch government. To further strengthen this partnership, the Dutch Economic Government Network in the GCC launched Holland+You. Holland+You is about three words: Generating, Connecting and Creating. Generating more interaction between our businesses, connecting Dutch expertise and technology to demand in the GCC, and creating a platform for interaction. We believe that by joining forces and mutually sharing our knowledge, we can together contribute to healthy societies, sustainable economies and a future-proof way of living. As part of our approach we identified a few key market sectors that are of special interests to the Netherlands. Energy is one of these sectors. Not only are Dutch companies market leaders in the oil and gas industry and a lot of related industries, an increasing number of SME’s come up with innovative solutions to improve efficiency and enhance performance in this sector. With the declining oil price there is a lot of interest in these innovative solutions. We aim to give Dutch companies a head start. Holland+You specializes in providing market insights, identifying potential business partners as well as providing you the right embassy network for advice and help in establishing or expanding a business within the GCC. An example of a Holland+You regional sector opportunities report that is available upon request or via the website is called “What are the opportunities for Dutch companies in the GCC energy market?” Improve visibility of Dutch industries
Holland+You was launched in April
2015, on the King’s Day reception in Abu Dhabi. Since then we have steadily increased our network and worked hard to improve information flows between the government and the private sector. We have reached partnerships with different Dutch branch organisations like the IRO and we actively support other initiatives that promote Dutch business interests. The idea behind Holland+You is that the Netherlands as a brand has been under-represented and can really boost the image of companies. Companies, on their part, can greatly boost the image of the Netherlands. Especially in the GCC, where the government and the private sector are closely intertwined, there is a lot to gain from working together. Therefore an important part of our job is Holland Branding. The most important aspect of Holland Branding is visibility. We do this in two ways. First of all we do a lot of promotion online. We have very active social media from which we try to promote Dutch initiatives that are taking place in the GCC. We aspire to become one of the main drivers for strengthening the economic relationship between Dutch and Gulf business.
On the other hand we also organize different activities. We provide a stage for companies, which they can use to promote themselves on big events like ADIPEC 2016 and we organise an increasing amount of events in cooperation with different business councils. Another important reason why Holland+You was set up, is to streamline efforts in advancing business interests across the GCC. Although each GCC country has its own unique challenges and there are a lot of cultural differences between GCC countries, there are also a lot of similarities in the challenges they face. All GCC countries aim to diversify their economies, while still profiting from the oil and gas revenues. Water for example is increasingly becoming a scares commodity across the GCC and all these countries are trying to cope with growing populations. These challenges all form opportunities for those Dutch companies that offer innovative solutions for parts of these problems. Another added value of the platform is the informative role that we can play. A big issue is a growing focus on reforming the heavily suppressed

energy, water and food prices in the GCC. Saudi Arabia and the UAE are ahead of the rest with regards to raising energy prices and cutting subsidies in response to fiscal pressures created by the slump in oil prices. Continued reforms will have wide-ranging implications for businesses based in the GCC. Holland+You can bring you into contact with the economic advisors at the different embassies who keep a close eye on these changes.
Besides our activities at the exhibition we will also organise a breakfast session and a reception. By cooperating we hope to improve our scope and bring you a better experience of ADIPEC.
Dutch companies to identify sound business prospects, target business professionals, discover potential business partners and get in touch with the Dutch economic network in the GCC.
Alongside the joint promotional and networking activities during ADIPEC 2016, the co-operation is also established to generate attention for the services of Holland+You within the group of IRO members. These services entail the support to
What can Holland+You do for You?
Although the IRO knows the oil and gas market extremely well and offers a wide range of expertise and connections, Holland+You together with the Dutch embassies plays an important role in strengthening
Gaining foothold in the GCC market
ADIPEC 2016 is one of the biggest business events within the GCC this year and a key event within the oil and gas industry. Exhibitions play a crucial role within the way business is done in the GCC. Not only are all the big players of the industry present and is it the perfect place to see the competition, in a region where brands are very important, it is the perfect way to catch the eye of local and foreign investors and gain a foothold in the market. The IRO and Holland+You cooperate by promoting the ADIPEC within the Dutch business community and by helping businesses increase their visibility during this exhibition.

Dutch business interests. Herm Pol, Project Director of van Oord in Kuwait, explained it in an interview on our website rather nicely: “In a country like Kuwait it is of significant value for us to be supported by the Dutch embassy. This helps us in doing business.” The embassies have a broad network and take their role as connectors between parties very seriously. They can point, especially for SME’s, in the right direction of important government bodies or local partners. For instance when you have a questions about exporting to or investing in any of the GCC countries as well as requesting further information on potential business opportunities, you can contact Holland+You or the local embassies. Our teams at The Embassies in Abu Dhabi (UAE), Riyadh (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia),
Doha (Qatar), Muscat (Oman), Kuwait City (Kuwait) and the Consulate General in Dubai (UAE) are more than happy to assist you. Holland+You also works together with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). Together we can provide you with a more in-depth analysis of markets and possible business partners. These so called business partner scans are done for a small fee, but include field work and a through analyses tailored to your needs. We visit possible partners and connect you with other useful contacts within the market. For more information on the business partner scan and other useful services, please visit the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) website, www.rvo.nl Besides the assistance in market research we can verify that the
company of interest is correctly registered with the corresponding local authority. We can also provide a list of law firms that can support your business during a trade dispute. Common trade disputes include different interpretations of contracts and agreements as well as liability disputes arising from breach of local regulations and requirements. We wish you all an enjoyable and successful exhibition in Abu Dhabi. For readers who cannot make it; Holland+You hopes you enjoy this edition of Offshore Holland.

Dutch design
Royal IHC has introduced a new design philosophy for offshore vessels. The company’s new line of vessels showcases its renowned ability to transform functional requirements into optimal performance with contemporary, safe and comfortable Dutch design. The new signature design is the result of close cooperation with yacht
designer Mulder, and interior architect HofmanDujardin. The philosophy is to create a ‘home away from home’ in an efficient and high-tech environment. IHC’s goal is to build purpose-built vessels with the intended mission and people in mind, so they can carry out their duties as safely and efficiently as possible. Clear routing
Transparency and clear routing were
the focus for the layout of our new offshore vessel series. Different functional areas are separated and marked by colours and signage, while the transparent central stair well connects both worlds. Every aspect of the offshore vessels – from the functional process and mission equipment, down to the smallest detail – has been carefully designed and engineered to ensure the highest level of safety.

gas streams that require very low liquid content. Frames provides gas filter coalescers with a high efficiency for the removal of very small liquid droplets. Frames is able to combine this technique together with the upstream scrubber vessel, thereby resulting in the optimization of the required plot space and reduced investment costs. The Zohr field
Furthermore, gas filter coalescers can be equipped with internals that remove solid particles to provide a complete separation solution. Reducing consumption and costs
The filter coalescers and heat exchangers will be installed at the El-Gamil Plant in Egypt. The plant is connected with the ‘super giant’ natural gas field Zohr. This field is located in the deep offshore of the Mediterranean Sea in the Shorouk Block, which covers an area of 3,765 square kilometres and a water depth ranging from 1,400 to 1,800 metres.
Business Group for Investment (BGI), we were able to provide ENPPI and Petrobel with a technically and commercially attractive offer. It took only 3 months from the request for quotation to the order award,” says Joris Vink, Sales Engineer at Frames Separation Technologies. Removal of liquid droplets
Gas filter coalescers are applied in The Zohr Gas Field was discovered in 2015 and the goal of ENI, the operator of the field, is to start production at the end of 2017. The field will produce 2.6 billion cubic feet per day by 2019. This is equivalent to 40 per cent of the total gas production in Egypt today. Egypt is increasing the gas production in order to erase the natural gas supply shortages.
Shell and tube heat exchangers are applied in fluid streams (gas/oil/ water) that require cooling, condensing, heating, or evaporation. Frames’ proven units reduce energy consumption and operational costs by efficiently transferring heat from one medium to another. The Frames Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers are designed according to TEMA and API660, and are used in different industries for onshore and offshore applications.

Door can withstand 0,56 bar blast followed by A60 rated fire
InterDam conducts a ground-breaking door safety test Architectural safety equipment company InterDam recently announced a ground-breaking door safety test. Between July and September, 2016, the company’s engineers subjected their G21 Fire Door to a single sample blast and fire test. The result was an unqualified success.

“We have now confirmed that our standard G21 Fire Door can withstand a 0.56 bar blast followed by an A60 rated fire, while remaining structurally sound,” says Managing Director Berend Groeneveld. Single sample test
The company has performed similar successful tests on walls at their customers’ request. But this is the first time a company has proactively subjected doors to this type of testing, with a Lloyds Register Surveyor on hand to certify that the tests were performed on a single sample. “A blast event is quite often followed by a fire,” explains Groeneveld. “But this blast can compromise the door’s ability to protect against this fire. And we were amazed to discover that there are no formal regulations

Industry best practice
The blast test was conducted at the TNO blast testing facilities in Rijswijk, the Netherlands. “Post-blast, the door was intact and fully operational,” says R&D Director Paul Goudswaard. “It didn’t detach or crack, and there was no damage to the hinges, vision panel, latches or door handle. It remained a Category One explosionresistant door. During the subsequent fire test, we exposed the door to temperatures up to almost 1000º Celsius for over an hour, and it met or exceeded all safety parameters.”
InterDam now leads the market in this type of testing, and the hope is that it will be a game-changer in terms of awareness and regulatory activities. “We want to introduce this type of testing and quality as an industry best practice with the hope that it will lead to new regulatory norms,” says Groeneveld. “Our ultimate goal, as always, is to keep staff and equipment safe in hazardous environments.”
The final test results can now be used to calibrate our Final Element Models (FEMs) to approve alternative

The final deliveries we made for the TLS comprised no less than 18 large forged shaft pieces, each weighing 8 tonnes, for the so-called yoke foundation supports and adapter box. Techno Fysica also took care of calibration of all load monitoring sensors and systems. The company always endeavours to meet the required delivery ‘no matter how challenging’. Technical support is always available. In the unlikely event of a problem, advice, spares, service or a replacement unit is available at short notice.
