Homecoming 2011 Summary
Overview Homecoming is an annual tradition hosted by Florida State University during the fall semester to welcome the alumnus back to the campus, as well as foster a sense of school spirit among students. The event offers a variety of programs that attracts a diverse crowd of students. This year’s homecoming took place Sunday, November 13 – Saturday, November 19 under the theme ‘A Seminole State of Mind.’ FSU Homecoming is a collaboration between students, staff, faculty, and alumni. This summary focuses on the Student Government Association (SGA) sponsored activities. The Student Activities Center directly advises the Homecoming Executive Council, which coordinates these events. Homecoming Council The 2011 Homecoming Council consisted of 22 students and 2 advisors. The student committee included a Director, an Assistant Director, and Coordinators for events, marketing, and student groups. The Pow Wow Director, Pow Wow Assistant Director, and Student Alumni Association Director of Parade/Chief and Princess were also included as members of the Homecoming Executive Council, providing for increased collaboration between all groups. The Student Body President appointed the Overall Homecoming Director and the Assistant Director. Additional committee members and volunteers were selected in the spring semester prior to Homecoming. Event Changes This Year Clock and Seal - The Clock & Seal Leadership Banquet, a long-standing tradition, was a new addition to the Homecoming calendar. It was a homecoming dinner that celebrated leadership, devotion and service to the Florida State University. It provided the opportunity for current students, alumni, faculty and friends of FSU to meet and share their common experiences and memories.

Evaluation In order to receive feedback from students participating in Homecoming, a short survey was distributed during Seminole Festival and the Homecoming parade. Almost all respondents(93%) enjoyed the Homecoming events that they attended Most respondents were Caucasian (40%), female (60%), and junior students (38%) A majority of the respondents resided off campus (65%) The top three ways the respondents heard about Homecoming were: Promo items/t-shirt (19%), Flyer/Posters/Table Tents (18%), and Banners (14%) The two main reasons why respondents attended the Homecoming events was to enjoy the events (23%) and to support our school by showing school spirit (17%) Each year, an online survey is created to gather feedback from participants. Below are the highlights from the survey. A majority of respondents attended Homecoming (86%) Most respondents were Caucasian (67%), female (68%), non-Greek (72%), and senior students (30%) A majority of the survey participants resided off campus (69%) The top three ways students heard about Homecoming were: Friends/Word of Mouth (75%), Flyer/Posters/Table Tents (58%), and Banners (56%) (Students were allowed to choose more than one choice) 59% of respondents voted during the Homecoming Chief and Princess elections, 6% increase from last year’s elections Most participants were not affiliated with a student group (55%) 83% of participants attended the FSU v.
