With Fall around the corner and schedules adjusting to the changing season, it seems everyone is in a hustle to get life on track again. Summer can really create a rift in routine, but I believe it's necessary to let life get messy at times! It creates room for a new, fresh start which can breathe a breath of fresh air into our lives along with a new... cooler season.
Along those same lines, new seasons can also mean a refresh for our homes. This issue is near and dear to my heart having remodeled several homes. I know how difficult it can be to find contractors who really care about your project as much as you do and how hard it can be to choose the right decor and final touches to make your project a picture of perfection.
We've done our best to round up a great list of trustworthy, local contractors which we've used ourselves. So hopefully next time you have an "uh-oh" in your home or you need to do a little remodeling, you know just who to call!
We also caught our favorite home design enthusiasts from right here in Chickasha to give you tips and tricks on how to make your home as beautiful as the photos you'll see in the magazine. With unique and thrifty finds to personal touches and lovely items from shops in town, you'll have each room of your house looking incredible in no time.
At Oh18, we welcome each changing season because we know change is good and it can create new growth and opportunity for starting fresh. We hope you'll welcome the change with us as we look forward to the holiday seasons, cooler weather and finding excitement at every twist and turn.

Were you at the Christmas in July Block Party this year? We were and it was a blast! The kids couldn't get enough of the water slides and foam party. It was such a great get together for our community. Can't wait for the next one!

What's your favorite place in town?
Shakespeare Wine Company and Scooter’s Coffee!
What makes this place your favorite spot in town?
Scooter’s Coffee gets me with that “ooey, gooey cinnamon roll” and sugar free Carameliciuos Coffee. They have the sweetest staff! When Shakespeare came to town, it offered us a place where we can just go sit and enjoy flavoring fun and delicious wine and food! The owners are so kind and fun and really support our community. I just love everything about it!
What was your first impression when you visited? I am from here, so I don’t really have a first impression experience. I did move away for six years to a VERY large city. While it was a fun experience and had perks, there is truly nothing like living in a small community where you always see someone you know! I love shopping the small boutique shops where I know the owners and their families. We love being a Fightin’ Chick family and all the pride that comes with cheering on our team. There is a reason people from small towns burst with pride when they talk about their home. People care about supporting each other and cheer each other on in business and life.
What unique features or qualities does this place have that made it stand out to you?
The downtown area is pretty special. We have so many amazing businesses where visitors and residents can shop, eat, walk and hang out together. The stores are always changing up their window displays and new businesses are coming in. The Christmas season here is also one-of-a-kind with the Christmas parade, Festival of Light, the Leg Lamp, the shuttle to and from the different Christmas spots for those visiting and wanting to see it all…I could go on and on with what makes our city stand out!
What would you recommend others try or do when they visit?
All year long, the boutique shops and locally owned eateries all over town are worth a visit! The owners are kind, they are community supporters - you will not be disappointed. Chickasha is a place you can visit anytime of year and have a great time! I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

Mixing new and old items can be tough, but when you have the right mix, it can bring a room to life. Fresh greenery and produce on display can add a touch of life to any space. Paired with wood accents, these fresh items take on a complete vibe in a room. When picking pieces to add to this mix, you want to ensure the tones don't clash as well so having similar wood tones and items which don't draw too much attention is a great rule of thumb.

We love to use natural elements like wood and stone. The texture and distress of a cutting board, wooden riser, or rolling pin creates a depth and warmth that only natural materials will offer. They show their wear and tear in an endearing way- especially in the kitchen. Okie Mountain and Ross have a great selection of these items.
Side tables are often a missed opportunity to show off fun and personal little items. Stacking books is a great way to give your pieces height and depth. Don't stray away from stacking things or placing items in new, unexpected ways such as the books within the ceramic pot show above. Little hints of texture like the wicker photo frame and golden bee can also create interest in these small spaces.

Planning out the use of each space is such an intentional step which must be taken before adding the final layer. This vintage side table went from being a catch-all to the perfect game table.
Don't forget to look for uncommon ways of displaying items as well! These board games can keep your favorite games hidden neatly in the family room without creating a chaotic clash of color and exposing those frail cardboard boxes.

Porch decor can be tough, but with a good balance of plants, textiles and materials, you can create the calm, welcoming space dreams are made of. Creating a cozy seating area is imperative and a cute little table and chair set can fit any outdoor space, big or small. Finding little accessories to accompany plants can fill space and show off your personality. Don't skimp on the plants! Bringing life to your space through greenery and beautiful flowers is the best way to show off your outdoor space.

Seven years after street car systems came to Oklahoma, Chickasha's Street Railway System began operating on July 11, 1910. By 1913, the Chickasha Street Railway System stretched for six and a quarter miles of track across town with six cars in operation.
The first three cars were purchased from the Boston Elevated Railway. The cars were nearly 20 years old when entering service in Chickasha. Other cars were purchased new from Brill shortly after operation began. Brill Company was the largest street car builder in the country.
The route began downtown at Rock Island Depot and went all the way to
the Oklahoma College for Women, now USAO. Later the route was extended to go to University Park near Shannon Springs.
In 1920, one ride cost seven cents. One dollar could buy 15 tickets or 30 tickets for a child. On the first day of operation, the company sold 1,615 fares. The rise of the automobile eventually made streetcar operation unprofitable and operations ended early in August of 1927. Some of the equipment was sold to a city in South America and eventually the rails were removed from the streets.
The photo shown above with the two conductors was taken on the last day of operations.

Step 1
Boil noodles according to package instructions. Save 1/4 cup of cooking water to loosen sauce later if needed. Drain noodles and toss with olive oil so they don't stick.
Step 2
Heat medium skillet over medium heat. Cook bacon pieces until brown and crisp, then add garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes.
Step 3
Add the noodles to the skillet and toss with bacon until the noodles are coated in the bacon fat. Turn off the heat. Beat eggs with a fork and mix in Parmesan cheese. Pour egg-cheese mixture into the skillet and toss with bacon and noodles. (The residual heat of the pan will cook the egg mixture, but do not overcook or the eggs will scramble!)
Step 4
Divide between bowls. Garnish with parsley and freshly ground pepper.
• 3 Ramen packs (seasoning packets discarded)
• 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
• 6 slices of bacon, chopped into 1/2" pieces
