2018 Introduction Letter Hello Ohio, School is finally here and I hope everyone is off to a great start. Just as a reminder FBLA offers BAA’s, also known as the Business Achievement Awards. There are four levels that you are able to complete. Future for freshman, Business for sophomores, Leader for juniors, and America for seniors. I highly encourage you to take a look at those some time in the near future, they will only benefit you! I am happy to announce that the team and I are working on a new opportunity for you all to take part in. We’re going to be giving out scholarships to students for SLC. We will be choosing students through applications, which we will be sending information to your advisors in the near future. We are doing this by receiving money from local businesses in Ohio and putting that donation towards sponsoring students and paying for the conference fee. The money you’ll receive will vary depending on what the business decided to donate towards your trip. The state team will be choosing the winning applicants for the scholarships to help you go to SLC. For more information feel free to contact me through email, I will be happy to oblige.

Dragonfly Foundation For this year’s service project, FBLA will be making birthday bundles for children staying in hospitals in the state of Ohio. We will be partnering with the Dragonfly Foundation to distribute bundles. Last year, I was hospitalized when I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes. While I was only there for four days, the experience was lonely and scary. Many children are in hospitals for even longer without family and friends to lean on for support. These kids miss holidays and birthdays due to their ailments. We hope to bring some joy into their lives with our bundles. Bundles may include: • Books • Streamers • Noise makers • Puzzles • Etc. Donations of money and physical items will be collected at this years State Leadership conference. Please consider fundraising for this great cause and email me, vp@ohiofbla.org if you have any questions.

New Website Ohio FBLA has been working on renovate our website (ohiofbla.com). We wanted to update our website so that chapter participants and advisors could have all the resources needed to be successful. We now have live Twitter and Facebook on the front page that will keep you updated on what is going in FBLA nationwide. Along with that, we also wanted our website to be user-friendly so that it can be easy to find information about conferences and chapter resources. It is a minimalistic website, so hopefully it is easy to maneuver. We have a lot of future goals for our website and we believe that we can continue to improve on aspects such as keeping information up-to-date and organized. I am your webmaster this year, so I am always looking for input to make our website better,
please email me at webmaster@ohiofbla.org if you have any input or questions. I would like to thank our former National Treasurer and now Executive Assistant, Tyler Thomas for the many hours he has put in the website to make it what it is today. Our State Director, Mrs. Beavers has also been giving input and working on several aspects of the website. We are always making improvements, and we hope that our website will be beneficial to you this coming year!

Fundraising As your treasurer, I feel it is my responsibility to make sure all the chapters have adequate funds to perform their regular functions. I have compiled a few ideas for fundraising for each of your local chapters. 1. Restaurant Night: This is one of the easiest ways to raise money. All you need is an electronic device and communication skills! Your first step is to contact your local restaurant of choice. Some restaurants, like Chipotle, will have their applications for fundraisers online. When the partnership is confirmed, a portion of every FBLA supporter’s payment will go towards your chapter fund! 2. Car Wash: If you can catch a sunny day before fall, a car wash is an easy AND fun way to raise money. There are two options for this: you can have a cheap car wash ($3-$10) or a free car wash with tips/donations accepted at the end. A cheap car wash ensures that you raise money, but a free car wash attracts more people that give you even more money in tips. 3. GoFundMe Page: Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a technical wizard to set this up. GoFundMe and other online fundraising tools let you set up a campaign and advertise it on social media to directly deposit money. It’s simple, fast, and makes your chapter look tech-

Update on the Central Region Hello Ohio! Hopefully you all enjoyed your summers and are back in the swing of things with school. To my members of the central region, the State Leadership Conference is less than six months away and we need to look superior! This means that opportunities to win Business Achievement Awards are here. What are BAA’s you might ask? FBLA Business Achievement Awards are composed of four levels of leadership achievement. All levels having business, education, and leadership elements. These levels are as followed: Future for freshman, Business for sophomores, Leader for juniors, and America for seniors. The levels get more difficult as you complete each one. However, they all incorporate the same concepts. Service: Activities that improve your school, businesses in your area, community, and/or state. Once you complete this, you will understand the connection between your community and businesses in the area.
Education: Content that gets a student ready for college and business/work life outside of high school. Using input from people in the business industry, you will be more prepared for their future. Once completed, you will better understand business and work environments. Progress: Activities that make the organization better at the local, regional/district, state and national levels. When completed, you will better understand the local, state, and national levels of FBLA and how they complement one another. You will find your way on stage at the State Leadership Conference if you complete three or more levels. If all four levels are completed, you will get recognized at Nationals in San Antonio next June. The Future and Business levels are due on October 1st. Get to work now to enjoy success later!
