AND WE’RE READY

FOR YOU. 3

Nestled in the foothills of Appalachia, Ohio University is a large institution in a small town. Visit our beautiful residential campus and you’ll fall in love with its brick buildings and walkways as well as its big-school amenities. The Ohio University College of Business (CoB) has offered courses in business administration for more than a century. Our program is based on the four essentials we believe provide the foundation for success in the business world: entrepreneurship, strategic leadership, global perspective, and professional development. We provide you with experiential, application-based, thorough knowledge of business disciplines with emphasis on these areas. We don’t just stop at making you proficient in business fundamentals. We teach you to think critically and challenge the status quo. At the College of Business, we care about you. Our class sizes are small, which allows us to focus on your individual development. Our classes are taught by experienced faculty with significant business connections, not by teaching assistants. We work hard to ensure that our student body reflects the many faces of global business, so you’ll be ready to work in a multicultural world. We pick best-in-class students, so you’ll be surrounded by high-performing peers who will inspire you to do your best. All of our

HOW YOU LEARN WHAT YOU HOW HOW, LEARN YOU WHAT, WHY OUR LEA WHY... HOW YOU LEARN

“In the cluster, you learn how to balance your time and be productive. You learn how to present effectively and to write precise, appropriate documents for real clients. It’s all real world applicable. It just really polishes you as a person.”

—Kathleen Bennett

Class of 2011 Major: Accounting and Management Information Systems Audit Assistant, Deloitte Columbus, Ohio

In business, things don’t fit in tidy functional boxes. It is a complex and multi-disciplined world. And, more importantly, there is not one “right answer”.

We don’t lecture you into becoming a business leader. Our focus is on learning by doing. An example of this is our Business Cluster where rather than teach core subjects as isolated units, our unique approach combines traditionally independent classes into one integrated class taught by a team of professors. This business cluster combines management, marketing, management information systems, and finance.

Working in teams, you are challenged to solve authentic business problems. Here you learn and integrate key concepts while gaining practical experience in leadership, time management, teamwork, problem solving, and analytical thinking. This is truly a transformational experience. Likewise, we know you won’t become a leader attending seminars. We don’t just teach you about leadership—we put you face-to-face with current businesspeople who are out there leading companies and industries. You’ll have plenty of chances to put your leadership skills to the test, with more than 25 student organizations and multiple practicum opportunities. Our classrooms are where you are challenged and motivated to think outside the box.

THE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS HONORS PROGRAM

Have you dreamed of a career in business? Do you see yourself as a successful business leader? Are you interested in changing the future of business?

Here’s a sample of how our students learn:

If you are a driven, talented, and focused individual who wants to get the most out of your college business education, the College of Business Honors Program is just the right program for you.

• The Student Equity Management Group: You learn advanced equity research methods by using state-of- the-art investment tools (including a dedicated on-campus trading room) to help manage a $2 million equity fund.

The Business Honors Program at Ohio University is specially designed for academic achievement-oriented students with a unique, demanding, engaged, and applied learning experience. Join us at the freshman level for four academically rewarding years with in-depth learning, real-world experience, and much more.

• The Select Leadership Development Program: A unique program that accelerates personal growth, professional development, and leadership identity of high-potential students using principle-based leadership practices. Through the process of discovery, application, and evolution, students develop skills to differentiate themselves as leaders. • SOX 404 Fellows Program: Put your accounting knowledge to work as you audit the accounts of the Ohio University Foundation. SOX Fellows document existing controls, determine sufficiency of internal controls in place, and assess the effectiveness of those internal controls. • The Student Fixed-Income Management Group: This student-run management group helps manage $2 million fixed-income securities fund for the Ohio University Foundation.

As part of the CoB Honors Program, you belong to a highly selective group of students who have access to smaller classes, scholarship opportunities, mentorship opportunities, reallife consulting projects, and one-on-one interaction with top business faculty. ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for the Business Honors Program, you must have:

• demonstrated excellence through your high school academic performance • a well-rounded set of academic and extracurricular experiences

• an ACT score of 26 or above, or an SAT score of 1170 or above • a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher

CENTER FOR SPORTS ADMINISTRATION Forty years ago when the idea for an academic program built around sports administration came to fruition, one could hardly predict the level of complexity that characterizes the sports industry today. Through the years, the sports industry has continued to evolve, becoming increasingly global in its approach to business. Ohio University’s Center for Sports Administration was founded to serve as a resource to solve the increasingly difficult issues facing the sports industry. ROBERT D. WALTER CENTER FOR STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP Corporations consistently cite leadership development and experience as one of the most valuable—and yet most frequently underrepresented—items on student résumés. Most graduating students lack the leadership skills and experiences that they will need to be successful in their careers. In response to this need, the Ohio University College of Business established the Robert D. Walter Center for Strategic Leadership, dedicated to developing excellence in strategic leadership.

In short, good leaders can be the difference between a successful company and one that struggles. ADMISSIONS The College of Business has a selective admission policy for freshman and transfer applicants. If you apply as a freshman, the University’s admissions office will review your high school record (including class rank), ACT or SAT score, pattern of studies, grade-point average (GPA), extracurricular activities, work experience, and community involvement. Successful applicants usually rank in the top 20 percent of their high school graduating class and score among the top third of those taking the SAT or ACT. For general admissions information, visit www.ohio.edu/futurestudents Students transferring into the College of Business must have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and completed a series of basic courses to be considered for admission. For more detailed transfer information, visit www.ohio.edu/admissions/transfer FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS Ohio University offers financial assistance to qualified students in the form of grants, loans, and part-time employment. Some financial aid is need-based; the results of the FAFSA, along with the estimated cost of attendance, will determine whether or not a student has financial need. Most grants, the Subsidized Stafford and Perkins Loans, and Federal Work-Study are need-based financial aid programs. The Unsubsidized Stafford and the PLUS are not considered need-based. Scholarships can be based upon merit, financial need, or both. There are four main sources of financial aid: the federal government, state governments, educational institutions, and private entities. Approximately two-thirds of all students attending Ohio University receive some type of financial aid from one or more of these sources.
