MULTICULTURAL GREEK COUNCIL

MGC chapters conduct recruitment individually by chapter. Most MGC chapters have recruitment activities during the first few weeks of each semester. These events are often advertised on social media. Student Interested In joining should submit an interest form at the Ohio Greek Life Instagram linktree @OhioGreekLife.

NATIONAL PAN-HELLENIC COUNCIL Many NPHC organizations at OHIO do not allow undergraduates to join until the Individual has completed at least one semester of classes. The chapters determine which semester they will conduct Intake. NPHC chapters have their own Intake processes that often begin with an informational meeting. Students interested in joining an NPHC chapter should attend NPHC's Meet the Greeks, which will be held at the start of the semester. To learn more about NPHC follow their IG @OHIOU_NPHC.

INTERFRATERNITY COUNCIL IFC promotes year-round recruitment; however, most of the IFC recruitment at OHIO takes place at the start of the fall and spring semesters. IFC recruitment Is semi-structured, which means that each chapter has Its own events with the guidance of the IFC executive board. HEALTH and SAFETY HAZING

ALCOHOL & OTHER DRUGS

Ohio university is committed to a safe and respectful campus environment that aligns with our institutional values of citizenship, civility, character, community, and commitment. It is the university's belief that true human development will best occur in an atmosphere that promotes social and ethical responsibility. Hazing Is defined, but is not limited to: Any action or situation which recklessly or intentionally endangers the mental, emotional, or physical health or safety of a student for the purpose of initiation or admission into, or affiliation with, any student organization or group regardless of the person's consent to participate. Coerced consumption, including but not limited to any food, alcoholic beverage, liquid, drug, or any other substance that subjects the student to an unreasonable risk of harm. For the full hazing policy, visit ohio.edu/policy/23-010

We recognize that this is the first time away from home for many students; a time to test boundaries and explore new limits. While our sororities and fraternities are social in nature, it is important to not equate that with the need to rely on alcohol for every event or to overconsume alcohol at the events where it is present. In order to ensure that our community events are safe, the Office of Sorority & Fraternity Life, along with the individual governing councils have adopted some Health and Safety Guidelines.

All fraternities and sororities are values-based organizations. All of the organizations at Ohio Universities are unique, with Individual Idientities. Finding the organization that Is best for you will be a personal experience, based on your own values, personality, Interests, and Identity.

HOW MUCH TIME IS REQUIRED TO BE A MEMBER?

Membership in a fraternity or sorority Is a life-long commitment; however, as students, chapters are flexible and understanding of competing commitments. Though there are mandatory commitments, such as weekly meetings, educational programs, and community service, time requirements will vary by organization and Individual Involvement.

Each year the OSFL provides a quality assessment of our member groups to ensure that their operations aligns with the values of OHIO. Chapters are assessed on their academics, chapter operations, community impact, diversity & inclusion, member development, recruitment & retention, wellness & safety and housing (if applicable). Chapters are scored either satisfactory, proficient, exemplary or insufficient.

RESOURCES Fulfilling the responsibilities of a sorority and a fraternity can be challenging and sometimes exhausting, but always critical to the success of the chapter and its members. With that said, it is important to utilize the resources available to you. We are lucky as a member of the Ohio University Community, to have a number of established departments and programs that will meet the needs of our chapters and members. We encourage you to visit the sites below to learn more about these specific programs and how you can partner.
