Editor’s Letter With the cooler weather comes the nuptial season. November is when the wedding bells, and ‘here comes the bride’ chanting happen with more frequency. The bridal period usually runs until May, when the weather starts to heat up. Inspired by the theme, we spoke to a wedding florist to get a glimpse of natural decoration (pg66). With fewer Covid-19 restrictions, the celebrations are getting bigger and we’re back to hotel ballrooms (pg68). Our Style Focus pages are dedicated to traditional white dresses, pearly non-traditional options, and essential accessories (pg14). Keeping the fashion mode, we spoke with the creative director of a traditional Italian fashion house (pg34), and Bahrain embraced a fashion week with fascinating conferences and a creative catwalk show (pg40). Beauty enthusiasts will fall in love with our selection of gorgeous new make-up and irresistible scents (pg42). For our monthly beautification experience, my tresses were treated with natural products from this well-loved brand in Bahrain (pg52). And we embarked on a shared journey for our spa treatment, a must-experience therapy for newlyweds and longtime partners (pg56). We dined at a Turkish hot spot for a taste of authentic cuisine (pg86) and ended our journey riding an exceptional vehicle (pg94). I hope you enjoy our company!

Getting married in a white dress is part of most little girls’ dreams. Be it a big ball gown or a sleek structure, the dress is one of the most important elements on the wedding day. It also says a lot about the bride’s style – an A-line dress is all about modern elegance, while a boho dress brings a laid-back vibe to the aisle. Which bride are you?

Nowadays, mostly in smaller celebrations, some brides don’t want to make the event all about the dress or even don’t feel comfortable in one. They end up choosing different structures such as jumpsuits, suits or even different top and bottom compositions. We have a few ivory options to inspire your non-traditional bridal look.

We turn our attention to the ladies on the guest list, and dresses are certainly the most popular pick when attending a wedding. For day parties, women tend to go for a shorter length, while at evening functions, long frocks are the order of the day. Just avoid black and obviously white, which should only be worn by one lady – the bride.

The perfect jewellery to pair with your wedding gown is the style that reflects you. If you like chunky items, go for it, but opt for delicate details if you don’t. For a harmonious look, find bridal jewellery that complements the shade of your wedding dress. White gold or platinum jewellery looks best with more ‘true white’ dresses, while yellow gold or rose gold works well with warmer white gowns.

EVENING GLAM

Returning to a jam-packed social calendar calls for a little expertise. For special occasions, events with friends and family, the glam is back. Fall/Winter 2021 evening trends are celebratory first and foremost. Tiers create graceful and flowing silhouettes and are here to make us dream and believe in fairytales. Fringes in sparkling designs speak the language of glamour, by making a head-turning impact without losing one bit of refinement. Lace, the ever-so-romantic and nostalgic is still an evening staple that radiates elegance and femininity. Puff sleeves, a big trend for this season, is worth the hype. The bold volume brings maximum impact and is sure to fascinate. Velvet has been the most coveted fabric for Fall/Winter. In fact, who wouldn’t want to look sophisticated all while staying cozy? These trends are timeless and sure to make a big impact this season and in those to come.

OHLALA ICYMI

New, exciting, and exclusive collections are the highlights of this month. With a reminder that the year is approaching its end – the festive season is on its way!

Different Perspective

Stella McCartney presents Stella Shared 3, a capsule collection of conscious unisex staples exploring shared values and aesthetics. The British fashion house offered its platform to three creative forces: Ed Curtis in London, Maisie Broome (Myfawnwy) in New York City and Tom Tosseyn in Antwerp, forming a collective and a collection. With a clubkid perspective blending fantasy and reality, their prints are featured on iconic Stella archetypes. The palette pairs neutrals with youthful bursts of colour, including patterned eccentrically clashing classics with contemporary fantasies. "For my McCartney A to Z Manifesto, I shared my platform with next-gen artists who interpreted our values through their visions. Stella Shared 3 continues this spirit of collaboration today, remixing Stella pieces with prints by incredible talents of tomorrow – collectively advancing by sharing our skills, resources and communities," says Stella McCartney.

OHLALA ICYMI From Fashion to Beauty

The luxury fashion house Valentino is exploring new grounds with its Valentino Beauty enterprise. The make-up line was officially launched at the brand's Rendez-Vous Fashion Show in Paris in October. Pierpaolo Piccioli, Valentino's Creative Director, is behind the new beauty concept, and he believes that beauty is permeated by harmonised imperfection and liveliness, not static or controlled. The line is robust, offering several different finishes, shades, and versions of many products in the collection. Along with standards like foundation and lipstick, it offers eyeshadow palettes, liners in bright hues, pigments and even two different types of glitter.

Iconic Style

Inspired by Karl Lagerfeld's signature looks, the Karl by Karl capsule is an exclusive, gender-neutral collection that pays homage to the designer's unmistakable silhouette. The selection is a tribute to this fashion legend, ranging from tailored pieces, sophisticated outerwear and key accessories like fingerless gloves, bags and fans, to crisp white shirts and a tunic made in sustainably sourced organic cotton. The capsule has been curated by Carine Roitfeld, Style Advisor of the Maison Karl Lagerfeld, and designed by Hun Kim, the brand's design director. Merry Time

Salvatore Ferragamo puts us in the festive mood with its Holiday 2021 collection and the It's Movie O'Clock campaign. The joyful line takes us into the winter holidays, celebrating the warmth of friendship. It's Movie O'Clock is a portfolio of photos and videos dedicated to this magical period. The concept of the visuals is an imaginary Italian villa that could be anywhere, just like home is when it's shared, and the young stars of the campaign getting together for dinner and movie night. MODERNITY MEETS TRADITION The Italian luxury brand Tod's appointed a new Creative Director last year, Walter Chiapponi, and OHLALA had the opportunity to talk to him for an exclusive insight into his work.

OHLALA - As an Italian yourself, Tod's must be a brand you know very well and are accustomed to its tradition in luxury goods. What part of the brand DNA is the most significant for you and that you want to ensure is present in your collections? Walter Chiapponi - My first priority when I started was, and still is, to respect the Tod's DNA, which is the most exquisite Made in Italy concept, using the best leathers. Keeping this in mind, all I create starts from the leathers, working them as luxurious fabrics. It is definitely challenging but full of beautiful surprises. OHLALA - And what are the innovations you plan on applying? Anything, in particular, that is very personal to you? Walter - More than innovations, we are adding a new taste without changing the DNA. The idea is to combine Tod's Italian lifestyle with a touch of modernity without ever losing sight of the high quality and craftsmanship representing the brand's DNA.

34

www.ohlala-magazine.com

OHLALA - You are the first Creative Director at Tod's to oversee both the womenswear and menswear lines. What is the most challenging part of this combined position? Walter - The teams I am working with are great and having a complete overview of both collections is easier, in a way, because it gives you the full portrait of the brand's identity.

OHLALA - How important is your connection with the artisans behind the construction of your creative pieces? Do you teach more or learn more? Walter - It is crucial. It is part of Tod's DNA and philosophy, they are our roots from where we never stop learning. It is a constant exchanging of opinions; it is based on mutual trust.

OHLALA - What was your main intention when conceiving Tod's autumn and winter 2021 collection? Any specific concept you wanted to highlight? Walter - The autumn and winter 2021 is a journey within shades of elegance that redefines the idea of the refined Italian taste with a new edge. This season, the world of sportswear meets the voluptuous femininity of couture without sacrificing function and utility. The result is iconic garments with new volumes and unexpected details for all functions and occasions. Quilting and padding run through cropped leather duvet jackets, knee-length dresses and coats draw a sinuous silhouette. Tailoring has a rebellious ease, while sheepskin is used for a coat, but also a hat. Out of scale hats complete the looks, evoking an accessory from a past era. Accessories add further points of view. The bags are exaggeratedly large, such as the T Timeless with its raw-cut profile, or others with enveloping, curved shapes, made even more evident by the use of sheepskin and shiny leathers, as shown on the Oboe, the softly constructed hobo bag. The chunky heeled loafers are bright blocks of colour; the two-tone men's shoes are fastened by buckles or shaped like loafers and have high creeper soles on which the rubber Gomminos appear. The T marks and characterises the pieces on the top of the moccasins, while the same timeless T returns on belts and bags.

OHLALA - Special collections have been developed for Middle Eastern consumers, such as the Limited-Edition Arabic Sandals. Do you intend to expand these creations? Walter - Capsule collections are important, especially for countries like yours. Since they are capsules, we want to maintain them this way but definitely keep doing them. Like all Tod's leather goods, the Arabic Sandal is made in Italy and uses materials from some of the best tanneries in the world. They come in a minimalist design with a lightweight rubber sole, a central buckle and leather dyed in different shades. The colours range from classic black and white to deep blue and brown hues in four different colour combinations. OHLALA - How do you intend to connect Tod’s to the younger generations? What are the values that you want to pursue to make this connection a meaningful one? Walter - Tod’s is a deeply rooted brand, our philosophy of Made in Italy products of the highest quality are the most important aspects on which we need to build the loyalty amongst the younger generations.

Green

The Maison Chopard highlighted the eco credentials of its Green Carpet Collection with appearances in the latest James Bond film, No Time To Die.

T

he Haute Joaillerie pieces in the collection are crafted ‘with respect for humankind and nature’ and Ana de Armas, who plays Paloma in the film, showcased three models in the movie. The star was adorned in a necklace set with pear-shaped diamonds totalling 43 carats. A bracelet composed of an 82-carat cascade of pear-shaped and brilliant-cut diamonds encircled her wrist. Finally, earrings graced with 14 carats of pear-shaped diamonds enhanced her look. All these creations are part of Chopard’s Green Carpet Collection, the first entirely made from sustainably mined materials in the form of ethical Fairmined-certified gold and diamonds from suppliers endorsed by the Responsible Jewellery Council. Committed since 2013 to the maison’s Journey to Sustainable Luxury project, Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director Caroline Scheufele was keen to showcase these precious creations radiating an aura that is as much ethical as aesthetic. Founded in 1860, Chopard – the Artisan of Emotions perpetuates the heritage of traditional know-how and ancestral craftsmanship through contemporary and ethical creations. Cultivating boundless creativity, the maison nurtures the ultimate degree of fine craftsmanship through the work of passionate artisans who are experts in their respective fields of competence. Since July 2018, Chopard has also been the first luxury watchmaker-jeweller to use 100% ethical gold in the production of all its watches and jewellery. Guided by the passion of Caroline Scheufele, the house has also been involved in the world of film for many years. Consistently present at the heart of major international cinema-related events such as the Cannes International Film Festival – it has been an official partner of since 1998 – the maison reveals young talents thanks to the Trophée Chopard, a prize that highlights tomorrow’s leading lights. Chopard also regularly contributes to the production of feature films. Chopard collections are available at Chopard Boutique, Moda Mall. Constellations T

Van Cleef & Arpels’ Zodiaque collections are a tribute to the maison’s legacy and craftsmanship expertise.

he luxury jewellery house Van Cleef & Arpels celebrates celestial bodies recreating the symbolism of the constellations. The brand has imagined two jewellery sets offering new interpretations of the Western Zodiac signs and honouring emblematic creations from its heritage. One line appears in pure gold, like the medals created in Van Cleef & Arpels’ collections during the 1950s, and the other combines gold with the nuances of rare ornamental stones. Both blend two of the maison’s cherished sources of inspiration: nature and astronomy. The coloured pendants are an homage to Van Cleef & Arpels creations of the 1970s; the 12 new long necklaces reinterpret the signs of the Zodiac in a three-dimensional tableau. Each item is adorned with motifs on both sides. The first scene focuses on figures and elements associated with each sign, while the back features gold illustrations of their symbols, names and dates. The rich diversity of stones creates a unique composition of minerals. Chosen individually for their aesthetic characteristics, they come together to form harmonious ensembles for each element.

To portray the water signs, blue is the chosen colour. Cancer’s blue quartz embodies the depth of the oceans, Pisces’ sodalite the salty foam, and Scorpio’s turquoise the clear waters of exotic shores. The earth signs echo nature: Virgo is expressed in malachite with undulating motifs, Taurus is represented by randomly chromed aventurine, and vivid amazonite is for Capricorn. The air signs represent the night sky, with blue lapis lazuli on Gemini, blue aventurine for Aquarius and overtones of shimmering gold obsidian for Libra. Highly graphic materials to evoke flames and lava were chosen to adorn the fire signs, iron eye for Aries, red pietersite in Sagittarius, and red jasper bringing Leo to life. The gold pendants recreate the brand’s first-ever Zodiac medals. This time, Van Cleef & Arpels has brought them back to life in a new dimension, 21mm. Crafted from intricately polished yellow gold, the pieces are adorned on both sides with depictions and dates of the signs of the Zodiac. The creations bring together Van Cleef & Arpels’ emblematic techniques, from design to the three-dimensional textured gold work.

OHLALA Spotlight

NADA ALAWI, DR YUSRA MOUZUGHI AND H.E JÉRÔME CAUCHARD

French Flair

Inspired by the fashion events around the globe, Bahrain experienced its first Paris to Manama Fashion Week with a series of activities dedicated to the theme.

I

n partnership with the Royal University for Women (RWU), the French Embassy organised the first edition of the Paris to Manama Fashion Week, an event dedicated to fashion and its expressions. It started with an interesting view of the pearling history in the kingdom of Bahrain presented by the island’s most significant authorities on the subject. The event spanned over the last week of October and included exhibitions, conferences, and film screenings. The result was an intellectual exchange between France and Bahrain with engaging and delightful presentations from well-known local designers and professionals coming directly from France. Valériane Van Der Noorda, expert and consultant in sustainability in the world of luxury and fashion, and Ines Jourde, casting manager and fashion consultant, were some of the international presences. The week ended with a lecture by the French researcher Khémaïs Ben Lakdar about the influence of the Arab-Muslim world in Parisian haute couture, which discussed how Eastern creations appeared in the fashion scene at the turn of the 20th century. The conference was followed by a fashion show with designs from RUW students and alumni. The collections highlighted garments and accessories combining traditional Bahraini roots with global fashion aesthetics. “This week allowed us to honour the strong links between both countries through their history and heritage,” said H.E Jérôme Cauchard, the French Ambassador to Bahrain. Dr Yusra Mouzughi, President of the Royal University for Women, expressed her delight in the success of this joint venture saying: “I hope that this first collaboration with Alliance Française and the French Embassy will be the forerunner of many others with just as much success.” This fashion week happened with the support of Annada, NS by Noof, Aisha Jewels, Saks Fifth Avenue, Dessange, Adara, Jashanmal, Al Hawaj, L’Occitane en Provence, Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa, Danat, AH make-up artist, The Undressed Company, FCCIB, Floward, SwissBelhotel Seef Bahrain and Institut Français.

CHANEL’s skincare line LE LIFT expands its family with two innovative products, LE LIFT Fluid and LE LIFT Lip and Contour Care.

HANEL’s first skincare was created in 1927 by its founder, Gabrielle Chanel, to protect and maintain natural beauty. The brand’s line has evolved significantly and resonates with women who want to affirm their beauty and uniqueness at every age. CHANEL created LE LIFT for these women, a high-performance skincare line based on an original approach to antiageing, firmness and anti-wrinkle products. The new LE LIFT Fluid doubles as an anti-ageing and mattifying product powered by two plant extracts selected by CHANEL Research. Alfalfa is one of them, cultivated organically in France; this ancient plant is rich in minerals and trace elements. The botanical alfalfa concentrate comes from its seeds and possesses an action comparable to retinol, both at an epidermal and dermal level, while being gentle on the skin. It acts on keratinocyte differentiation and proliferation, leading to an epidermal thickening of 13%.

The other natural ingredient is the roucou seeds, which carry a high content of vitamins and minerals. The extract reduces sebum production by significantly decreasing sebaceous gland activity and pore size. The skin is left mattified, and its texture is refined. This light emulsion balances comfort and a matte effect while preserving radiance. It is formulated with 96% natural ingredients, providing a slightly powdery finish and a refined skin texture with a non-greasy finish. LE LIFT Fluid provides up to eight hours of hydration and comfort, pores are less visible, and shiny areas are diminished. The LE LIFT Lip and Contour Care formula smooths, plumps and firms lips while leaving them with a velvet finish. Its silky non-greasy texture combines a botanical alfalfa concentrate with a plant-based biopolymer that has an instant lifting effect. Composed of an oligopeptide and hyaluronic acid, the Lip Re-Plumping Complex stimulates collagen production. After two months of use, lips appear plumped and smoothed.

Find Your Voice Valentino Beauty brings a new scent to its perfume portfolio, Voce Viva Intensa. The fragrance is an ode to the power of self-expression.

I

magined as an invitation to the world to share differences, Valentino's Voce Viva fragrance line celebrates the power of a voice to inspire. That message is heightened with a new scent, Voce Viva Intensa. The perfume brings the power of imagining a better world to inspire others and help each find their own way. With Voce Viva Intensa, Valentino imagines a voice with new resonance, optimism, confidence and determination. Valentino Beauty called on perfumers Honorine Blanc and Amandine Clerc Marie to interpret Voce Viva with fresh resonance. They were in charge of magnifying the original scent with confidence, charisma and determination, following the house's three accords: colour, couture and cool. Colour - Head Note Luminous, fresh citrus take-off enlivened by pear accord. Harvested in Calabria, Italy, a radiant, sparkling lift of bergamot essence with gently tangy Italian mandarin essence awakens the senses. A green, textured pear accord gives a crunch to these citrus notes. A colourful, energised opening to reveal the wearer's charisma and optimism. Couture - Heart Note An iconic bouquet of white flowers reveals new intensity with jasmine sambac. Symbol of radiant, solar femininity, orange blossom absolute is explored to its extremes radiating and liberating its opulent and rich sides. Jasmine sambac supports this powerful femininity with its suave facet. Golden gardenia accord illuminates this bouquet of white flowers with fruity and spicy notes. Cool - Base Note Unexpected crystal moss accord strengthened with Texan cedarwood. Crystal moss accord brings its mineral and woody elements complemented by a dry and warm Texan Atlas cedarwood that amplifies this crystal overdose. To finalise, soft Madagascar vanilla absolute warms the trail with a mellow note. A robust scent to intensify the wearer's strength and determination. Lady Gaga is the face of Voce Viva Intensa. She is an icon, the voice of a generation and a movement. Great Hair Day OHLALA’s editor headed to Dessange for another beautification experience. This time, her locks were treated with the salon’s brand – Phytodess.

M

y monthly visit to Dessange is awaited with grand expectation. It is when I get to date myself and only worry about my wellbeing. Dessange headquarters in Adliya is the best destination for a pampering session or an entire me-time day. The space consists of a well equipped health club, relaxing spa and full-service salon and nail area for ladies. My visit there this time was spent at the salon, a vast space with comfortable and distanced chairs, well-lit mirrors and a wide selection of high-end products. The place is filled with a warm atmosphere and welcoming and experienced staff. That day, Kaoutar was the one in charge of caring for my tresses. Before my hair day started, Eva, the salon manager, explained that I was going to receive a treatment to control hair fall with Dessange’s unique line, Phytodess. Launched in 1996, the line symbolises the alliance of plants, phyto and the hair expertise of the luxury company – Dessange. Its foundations are deeply linked to delivering healthy scalp and hair care. Adhering to the principles of nature, it brings more than 40 products with formulas based on clays, essential oils, plant extracts and ingredients primarily of natural origins. Phytodess hair treatments are designed and produced at Dessange’s French factory located in Brittany.

It is important to highlight that the hair professionals at Dessange analyse your hair structure before choosing the products that will best suit your scalp and hair type. A well-known saying in the industry is that there is no beautiful hair without a healthy scalp, and the Phytodess line has been created with this concept in mind. Its care line revives and revitalises the scalp while enhancing the hair. My treatment started with the application of the Spray With 10 Minerals on my roots to replenish my thin hair. Kaoutar carefully split and opened my hair in different sections to make sure the product had covered my whole scalp. An intense massage followed, with the purpose to stimulate

54

www.ohlala-magazine.com

the circulation in the area. I have had quite a few head massages, but I can say that none of them can be compared to this, a sequence of movements that stimulated my scalp but also put me in a relaxed state. She then applied a clay mask on my roots, the Terre Préciuse Cuivre, a rinse-off clay bath for scalps in need of comfort, made with copper extract, specially chosen essential oils such as ylang-ylang, chamomile, rosemary and lavender, and red clay to calm and cleanse. After another series of head strokes, I moved to the washing area, where the chairs are equipped with a massage system. Meaning that while your hair is being washed, you are pampered with some extra care.

Back to my chair, my hairstylist finalised the treatment with Densiphyl, a fortifying anti-hair loss concentrate. The product is formulated to help delay the appearance of hair loss and preserve hair density. This concentrate is enriched with cleome gynandra extract and fortifying complex composed of zinc, white caya, aster maritima and white clay. After two months of use, 91% of people who tried it noticed a decrease in the speed of hair loss, and 80% of them observed an increase in the speed of regrowth. The product should be left in the hair for at least six hours after the application and used once a day for three months.

It was time to blow-dry and style my hair. Kaoutar asked me what I wanted. I do not blow-dry my curly hair that much and left this decision to her – the expert! And she couldn’t have understood my tresses better. Instead of going for a completely straight style, she added some curves, leaving it bouncy and red-carpet ready. My hair looked healthy, shiny and smelled wonderful. Sometimes I wish I could have a Dessange pass to have my hair cared for and washed there every single time. I was glad that I had an event to attend that night, allowing me to show off my beautiful mane.

SPA Spotlight

T

here are a few things in life that are a must and in Bahrain, going for a couple’s massage at The Gulf Spa at The Gulf Hotel Bahrain Convention & Spa is one of them. I have been with my partner for around 18 years, and we never thought of going for a massage together. However, now that we have, I truly recommend you try this shared experience. Whether to celebrate a special occasion or just to re-connect with your other half, you will thank me later! The spa is spread over three floors of pure bliss and ultimate luxury. It seems that when you step through the glass doors, you enter a completely different world. The vibe changes, the sound of water and the enticing smell take over, and you forget about the outside buzz and worries. We headed to the couple’s suite, which at The Gulf Spa is a spectacle apart. The massive space was beautifully decorated with red rose petals, and the dim light just made it more special. Inside this private room, we found a tropical shower, steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi. The two ladies in charge of our therapies were the friendly Sukanya and Analyn. After introducing themselves they left so we could get changed into the spa’s robes. They came back and started the session by bathing our feet in copper bowls with a sugar scrub. The warm water and gentle exfoliation put us in relaxation mode instantly. Meanwhile, they asked us which body parts we would like to concentrate on during the massage. For me, it was the essential back and shoulders with attention to my right arm. Long hours in front of the computer can cause some damage. My partner went for the same areas, adding his calves.

SPA Spotlight We moved to the massage beds, that were placed next to each other, and faced down. They adjusted the beds’ heights to get the correct position for the treatment. When using the couple’s suite, you can opt for different Time for Two treatment packages. We went for the Swedish massage that involved one hour of therapy and another hour enjoying the facilities in the room. The Swedish massage is one of the most common techniques created to promote relaxation by releasing muscle tension, helping to clear the body and mind of stress. It uses precise pressure and a choreographed series of movements, stretching the limbs to open the joints, increasing flexibility and improving posture. The back area near the shoulders was the most critical one for my partner and me, and when Sukanya and Analyn reached that area, both of us were emitting not the most delightful sounds. It was a mixed feeling of pain and relief, which means that we were indeed in need of professional care. We hadn’t had a proper massage in a while, and well-applied therapies are like exercise; they force blood into your muscles, bring nutrients and remove toxins. I am sure I moved muscles that had never been used before. One of the things that caught my attention was that while Sukanya was moving from one part of my body to the other, it seemed like a synchronised dance – always keeping the touch when changing from one area to start working on the next. And the pressure would always begin from a soft touch to an intensified one. The entire session was done with a neutral oil, which was a big plus; I don’t really like strong smells.

58

www.ohlala-magazine.com

The session ended, and Sukanya explained how to operate the facilities available while Analyn brought a tray with delightful sweets and tea. We were then left to enjoy the amazing space. I was impressed that everything was meticulously thought out to provide a memorable experience. The Jacuzzi was the ideal size for a couple, and the tropical shower, with its green light and nature sounds, was roomy enough for an enjoyable time. The steam room lets you choose the smell you want, plus there’s a button with a rain shower and extra steam. This experience has shown that routine and everyday problems can sometimes be put on hold, and a deep connection with your partner can be created. This must-experience treatment is undoubtedly a way of achieving it. Massages are known to release serotonin, which is the hormone associated with happiness. When shared with your other half, you correlate that feeling to the person. In a month where we celebrate brides and grooms, this experience is an excellent gift to the newlyweds. We left the room in a deep state of relaxation, and we were ready to face our family and work duties in a happier state and more united than ever.

OHLALA Insights

The bridal season is on! From November to May is when most couples decide to take their vows in this part of the world. Amongst all the preparations for the big day, picking your floral decoration is one of them, and OHLALA gives you a little push in the right direction.

wedding without flowers or any plant arrangement looks like something essential is missing. The good vibe that natural plants bring is what makes the ceremony even more magical. They can usually be found everywhere, from bouquets and boutonnieres to table centrepieces. Just as the bride’s dress, the floral design and the type of flower picked says a lot about the couple and the style of the wedding. OHLALA spoke to Ires Salmon, an event planner and florist, to learn more about plant and flower decoration. She tells us that there are many ways to become a wedding florist. In her case, she took a professional floristry course at the Texas Community College in Houston: “This was a great start; the certificate gave me the confidence to

66

www.ohlala-magazine.com

move forward in my work,” she explains. She then studied floral design at the Boerma Institute, an international floral design school in the Netherlands, and took a course with the Edith Blacklock Flower School. This shows that liking flowers is a good start but looking for specific education is the best way to succeed. In the process of choosing wedding flowers and greenery, Ires says it is fundamental to understand the couple’s preferences. There are various themes they tend to choose, such as classic, romantic, garden, beach, Bohemian, tropical and winter. “I often show customers a variety of flower motifs and arrangements to give them ideas, but the important thing is to constantly listen and note down what the couple would like to see on their special day,” she adds.

Another important detail is which flowers will be available during the period the wedding is happening. Many flowers are only in season for a few months, while others can be provided all year round, cutting down the overall cost and staying within your budget. And it’s not just about the price, picking flowers available throughout the year is a way of not being disappointed if the blooms don’t look as pretty or a sudden shortage happens right when you decide to get married. “I would definitely recommend flowers that are available throughout the year,” emphasises Ires. Some all-year-round flowers are orchids, freesia, roses, calla lilies, delphinium, lisianthus and alstroemeria. For greenery, silver dollar eucalyptus, Italian ruscus, seeded eucalyptus, salal lemon leaf, and fern are some of the best options. However, for spring and summer weddings, Ires would suggest peonies, spray roses, tulips, sweet peas, ranunculus, waxflowers, solidago, hydrangeas, and astilbe. For autumn and winter, she would choose hypericum berries, anemones, roses, camellias, carnations, amaryllis, thistle, magnolia leaves and blue spruce. There are many aspects in terms of flower compositions, but the most important one is to be aligned with the couple’s vision. It could be a preference for flowers with strong fragrances such as Jasmin, sweet peas, lavender, gardenias, and freesias. Alternatively, they may choose a complementary layout to the colour palette selected for the wedding. “For the arrangements, I use hues that blend with other aspects of the wedding such as tablecloths, napkins, invitation cards, and name tags,” says Ires. Another feature to keep in mind is the flowers’ height and structure; they could be tall, short, round, rectangular or just loose flowers in a vase; all those factors are imperative for a harmonious and perfect result. Flowers can amplify the beauty of any room if they are wellchosen; they bring positive emotions to people. It’s remarkable how a room with beautiful arrangements can bring a smile to everyone’s face. The positive effect of flowers on people has inspired Ires over the years: “My inspiration and passion for wedding flowers come from the happy faces,” she says. Ires also mentions that she learned a lot by working with people from 20 different countries. They have helped her improve her skills and understanding that different cultures bring significant variations in the taste and presentation of flowers. The last tip for brides-to-be is to choose a florist that makes you feel comfortable. An expert professional should guide you to make the best choices following your vision. It is also crucial to decide on your flower budget, bring in the florist early in the planning process, and schedule a site visit to ensure the floral concept is aligned with all other aspects of your wedding. Also, you should see your flower sample together with your tablescape (the table setting) at least two months before the wedding. No one wants last-minute surprises!

Photographer Loredana Mantello is known for capturing the vows of exquisite weddings in the region. However, she’s never lost her artistic side, making her bridal portraits and personal projects unique.

OHLALA Voices “My works have always represented an attempt to capture a moment to celebrate my love for life, nature and its colours.” – Loredana Mantello

OHLALA - Tell us how you became the recognised photographer you are today? Loredana Mantello - I owe a lot to photography. It has given me the opportunity to visit the world and see it with a photographer’s eyes rather than a tourist. It allowed me to share passions and joys with an intimacy that would hardly have been possible without a camera. Above all, it permitted me to overcome my fears and my anxieties. I always try to tell my stories from a personal and intimate point of view. I look back on my life, and I realise how much photography has given me. My works have always represented an attempt to capture a moment to celebrate my love for life, nature and its colours, not only in the bridal area. I have dedicated myself to fine art photography for a while, participating in the Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition organised by BACA (Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities) and many events presenting my projects. OHLALA - How did wedding photography enter your life? Loredana - My story on the island as a professional photographer started more than 15 years ago. I was the only foreign woman photographer and, with some of the weddings being only for ladies, the photographer was required to be a woman. When I have assignments for big weddings, Valentina Costa and her Italian team of photographers and videographers from @haloweddings join me. Our skills and singular eye for the grace of this special moment allowed us to capture the most beautiful marriage ceremonies in the Middle East. OHLALA - What is the difference between wedding photography and creative photography for you? Loredana – They are not much different; I always use my creativity in whatever kind of photography I perform. Capturing images is an art that, technologically speaking, evolves perhaps faster than the other forms of art. It is, therefore, always a challenge to study new techniques capable of leaving room for creativity. I think of photography as a

means of expression. The photographer needs to feel this emotional drive to express themself, together with the technique, which is an indispensable tool to become a good professional. OHLALA - From all the projects that you have done so far, which is the one that you feel most proud of? Loredana - My body of work called Darkness & Light (Chiaroscuro). This work is composed of a series of photographs that create a symbiosis of past and present. An homage to the tenebrism (dramatic illumination), an art technique born in the Renaissance that emphasises light areas – well represented in Caravaggio’s, the Italian painter, creations. Through this style of work described as ‘Light Paintings’, the aim is to produce images that recreate the art technique by using an external light source contrasting to the complete darkness. The concept created in the shooting is similar to the application of the colour by a painter with a brush on the canvas. The portraits revolve around the central idea that light makes visible what is invisible. In Renaissance paintings, the technique was used to make them look like photographs, trying to get as close as possible to reality. The exhibition Darkness & Light (Chiaroscuro) showcased such detailed and delicate pictures that one can only think they were paintings. OHLALA - You won a prize recently; can you tell us more about it? Loredana - It was a photography competition organised by a Grape Consortium for the protection of the industry in Piedmont, a UNESCO area in Italy. I won the first place with my project called ‘Between Heaven and Hearth’, which was exhibited during the most important photography fair in Italy, the MIA (Milan Image Art) Photo Fair. OHLALA - What do you like most about Bahrain? Loredana - Bahrain has been my home for the last 20 years. I love everything and everybody on this island!

A Wedding Fable A utopian scenario and idyllic dresses compose this photoshoot created by Loredana Mantello and her team during a visit to her home country.

A dreamy wedding in tune with nature is where this series of photographs from Loredana Mantello takes us. Shot at La Finestra Sul Fiume located on the banks of the river Mincio in Valeggio Sul Mincio, Italy. A landscape where the region’s hills reveal Venetian scenery with vineyards and gardens, among very green lawns and sparkling waters. Whimsical wedding gowns and artistic dresses and accessories lend an otherworldly vibe to the shoot. The dresses are simple, with a gauzy effect paired with natural flowers to best represent the embodiment of nature. “I believe that to be creative, we need a lot of different sources for unique ideas and insights and, in this photoshoot, we had Monet, the French impressionist painter, as the central inspiration,” says Loredana. The green location, a place where weddings are celebrated, enveloped the concept. “These images take me to a parallel world where water lilies, pond flowers, butterflies, trees, and dreamlike scenes made me imagine heaven on earth – a natural gift for our eyes,” she adds.

Luxurious Shores Taj Exotica Resort & Spa is a precious Maldivian gem and OHLALA’s Layal El Mahmoud had the pleasure of experiencing a blissful stay at this stunning destination.

TRAVEL Escapes

O

nly 15 minutes away from Velana International Airport, Male, by speedboat, Taj Exotica Resort & Spa will have you in awe from the moment it comes into view. Less than a kilometre long and no more than 30 metres wide at any point; Emboodhu Finolhu, or the island of the three coconut trees, is home to Taj Exotica. We arrived at the resort’s jetty to the sound of beautiful beating drums mixed with serene ocean melodies. Handmade shell necklaces were placed around our necks as we received the warmest welcome ever. We hopped onto the hotel’s buggy and the food and beverage (F&B) manager escorted us to our room, giving us a quick tour of the island on the way. Yes, it is such a small narrow island – but in the best private way possible! An appealing old tree, inhabited by green and purple orchids, marks the starting point. The spacious reception on one side; 24 Degrees, the all-day dining restaurant, on the other. A shop and a library are nearby and a long, slim path under a surreal canapé of local trees, travels among beach villas and over-water villas. Just as we reached the lagoon where our Deluxe Lagoon Pool Villa was located, we peeked at the infinity pool. A sign said Deep End Restaurant and we instantly admired the intelligent name! The villa was snug with a warm atmosphere, and well laid out to accommodate all your vacation needs. Our favourite part was the private infinity pool, surrounded by a chaise longue with a table and two arm chairs. We also loved how the TV stand doubled as the mini bar where the coffee machine and kettle were placed thoughtfully. The bed was just the right size and a ‘Welcome to Taj’ message was prettily laid across it using carefully cut coconut leaves… this takes serious time – and we really appreciated the gesture. Adi, our friendly butler, went through the itinerary with us then swiftly left us to ourselves telling us he would be back at 7pm to take us for dinner. We were hungry, we unpacked quickly, slipped into our swimwear and headed to 24 Degrees to order the mixed seafood grill. A huge plate filled our table; shrimps, calamari, mussels, three different kinds of fish steaks including salmon, and the local tuna, plus the king of all seafood, the local reef lobster. With green salad and fries, this plate was enough for more than two people. Afterwards, we headed back to our own pool for a much-needed chill.

www.ohlala-magazine.com

83

TRAVEL Escapes At 7pm sharp, Adi was at the door. We were ready to experience Deep End. In the Maldives, and in Taj Exotica, you are always surrounded by wood, from the furniture and villas to the green environs. Such a privilege not to be trapped in concrete. Deep End is the only restaurant built on top of the water, in a ring shape. The tables are arranged around an opening in the floor which allows you to watch baby sharks swimming… incredible! The restaurant serves a regular and a vegetarian set menu. The latter offers a light tomato soup and delicious garlicky asparagus risotto. Whilst the seafood soup and reef lobster grill are just as delightful! We followed up with the rich and creamy chocolate mousse with olive oil-based ice cream – one tasty culinary surprise! Sleep cannot be more comfortable than in the bed of a five-star resort. We woke up the next day all fresh and energised. The extravagant floating breakfast arrived perfectly on time. We jumped in the water and took great Insta pictures. The breakfast options range from porridge to omelette and eggs benedict, Maldivian Massuni and tuna curry, to masala dosa, Korean rice and beef bowl, bread, waffles, and a great jam selection as well as fresh fruits. To enjoy this amazing selection to the max, we had to reschedule our first activity of the day. Snorkelling is a must. Using the snorkelling kit provided to all guests by the resort’s diving centre, we took the fixed ladder down to the lagoon. The water was crystal clear, and the fins made swimming easy. The lagoon is home to a rainbow of fish, it was amazing! Our next lunch took a massive luxurious twist when the F&B manager suggested trying the ‘200-dollar Pizza’. At the pool restaurant, with milliondollar views, the executive chef personally laid it down at our table. A colony of the world’s most premium ingredients. A quattro of duck and foie gras from France, Wagyu beef carpaccio and black olives from Australia, prosciutto and black truffle from Parma, Italy, and finally homegrown reef lobster, are laid on a crispy base covered with a generous layer of cream cheese and garnished with Iranian caviar and edible gold leaves with a drizzle of aged balsamic vinegar. A complimentary sparkling beverage accompanied the incredible meal to leave us in total awe! Another extraordinary food feat we tried was the jaw-dropping Lobster Burger. On a huge wooden board, the burger comes with fries, onion rings, and both green and coleslaw salads. This burger is bursting with tender flavourful lobster meat, and is one gigantic meal for two (or more). What an experience! Other activities to put on your list include the discovery drive to watch baby black tip sharks feed on tuna chunks, as well as the guided snorkel trip which is a truly indescribable experience - one glance under the water is enough to capture your emotions. We also witnessed the stingray feeding on the resort’s beach before we headed back to the speedboat docked at the jetty for the perfect Sunset Cruise and dolphin watching. At Taj Exotica Resort & Spa many of our dreams came true; seeing a pod of wild dolphins was the most soul-elevating gift. With a sunset worth a thousand words – this is one place that will always hold a special place in our hearts.

A Culinary

Journey to Turkey Adliya’s Block 338 has added a new upscale restaurant to its lineup – Gunaydin. Liz O’Reilly had the chance to dine at this unique Turkish eatery for a trendy experience.

A

dliya’s Block 338 has long been the island’s most famed dining area and, while other prime foodie spots are beginning to crop up around the Kingdom, Block 338 retains its crown with a slew of new fine-dining venues. One such newcomer is the Turkish restaurant Gunaydin which, since its recent launch, has quickly carved its own niche. So, anticipation was high in the office when we were invited to sample the menu. And that excitement was not misplaced. We were shown to the chic smoking area for dining, though there is a very large non-smoking area too, and I was immediately impressed with the décor. An antiqued glass mirrored wall, really funky spider lights, midcentury modern leather sofa seating areas with complementary deep teal upholstery on the velvet chairs. All came together to create a feeling of nostalgia mixed with elegance. A green and gold theme meets with industrial-style ceilings. The walls are deceptive – think the dress that divided the internet – to me, up close, they appear pale turquoise and gold but from a distance they reflect the greenpainted surfaces and appear verdigris. The gold-tiled bar area is impressive with gold coloured hanging pendant lights and even the black and grey, heavy ceramic plates are made in Turkey. Virtually all the staff, from manager to chefs, are also Turkish, so, you know you’re in for a totally authentic dining experience.

CHIC Eats Gunaydin’s mezze menu is truly impressive. With numerous items, you’re sure to find something to please every palate. We were presented with a huge selection, including Atom, which is sun-dried spicy Turkish chilli with butter sauce on garlic and eggplant-infused strained yoghurt. This was an immediate hit with one of my colleagues. Initially cool and flavoursome leading into an intense chilli tang, it left a satisfying heat in the mouth. Vine leaves were stuffed with rice and seasoning but the addition of blackcurrants gave an interesting variation, something unexpected that you have to savour and, perhaps, inquire about if, like me, you really love to know what has piqued your taste buds. I particularly loved the Panço, fried potatoes with eggplant, yoghurt and garlic. Bathed in the creamy yoghurt, I had not expected this dish to be so impressive but the smoky flavour of the eggplant combined with a generous hit of garlic made this one of my favourites. Acili Ezmes is a spicy tomato dip with pepper and onions that just begged for the freshly baked Turkish bread that made a show-style entrance as a whole, puffy, oven-expanded loaf, ready to be chopped up at our table. And a special mention must go to the Tulum cheese. A creamy, salty goat’s milk cheese that is ripened in a goatskin casing. It was a first for me and the melt-on-the-tongue texture coupled with the unique flavour made a huge and positive impression. Truly, we could have whiled away the afternoon feasting on the whole range of mezze. There were enough delicious eggplant and tomato combinations, not to mention an outstanding hummus, to keep us happy for several hours, along with that heavenly bread. But knowing there was much more to come. We decided to reign in our appetites and see what would arrive next.

88

www.ohlala-magazine.com

We were glad we did as we were soon facing a light, fluffy Kibbeh, its centre perfectly infused with flavour and a dusting of green pistachio, as well as stuffed sundried eggplant and a selection of salads whose presentation was truly Insta perfect. The star presentation was the Gunaydin Beef Lokum fillet. Totally fat free, high-quality steak, grilled to absolute perfection. The flesh literally melted on the tongue with a slightly gamey aftertaste that left us wanting more. The Alinazik Kebab was a pleasant surprise. I’m not usually a fan of kebabs, finding them a bit greasy, but this was moist and juicy, rather than greasy, an indication of the quality of the ground lamb used. Served on eggplant liberally infused with yoghurt and garlic, it’s an interesting and immensely comforting mix of flavours with a great texture. And Abana Kebab is beautifully presented on a zig zagged-carved pitta base. The meat is spicy prepared with special, traditional Turkish seasoning with roasted chillis (beware, these are hot!), onion salad and grilled tomatoes. Super tasty, I loved it along with the Patatas Tava, piping hot and crispy paprika fries. We brought our feast to a close with a selection of desserts of which the Cheese Kunafa was the outright winner. The warm cheese pulled away in perfect strings from the crunchy vermicelli which was doused liberally in sweet super syrup. It was accompanied by Turkish ice cream which, if you’ve never had it, is a must try. Not too sweet and devilishly creamy, it was a triumph.

EMBRACING A

NEW DIET This month, Victoria Kruse shares the best way of re-educating your body.

A

s a wellness expert, Victoria has been on the path of creating health strategies that will stay with you way longer than the initial diet-changing excitement. Here are her tips on how to do it: - Don’t try to make a diet change when you are under any type of stress or looking after other people’s needs. - While not always possible, try to take some time off from your ‘normal life’, this way you stay away from old habits. - Get advice. Read a book, talk to someone who follows a similar eating lifestyle that you wish to emulate. But not too much advice; learn and apply what is possible. - Do not make too many rules for yourself. As humans, we tend to rebel against rules instead of setting goals or guidelines that we wish to achieve. - Find ways to reward yourself that are not food-based. Over the past hundred years, we have developed a compensation system that centres around food, particularly the most addictive substance known to humankind – sugar. So, instead of food, maybe this could be points towards your dream handbag, a long-awaited holiday or even, and more importantly, some quality time with a loved one. When asked how long it takes to successfully switch to a new diet, Victoria says: “If you are mentally ready and you have read the above, and you commit, I would say 21 days. Your body needs time to clear out toxins and work through any physical addictions and for your mind to find new neural pathways to joy. We subconsciously seek pleasure and society has conditioned us to pursue that in ways that are not natural and through substances that negatively activate dopamine.”

Victoria Kruse is a sustainability and wellness mentor. She was born and raised in a small town in New Zealand, surrounded by nature and rich biodiversity, and has always eaten homegrown and seasonal food. She is a chameleon with many talents and much knowledge to share. She worked in numerous fields before reinventing herself through learning and experience to become a sustainability and wellness mentor in the Maldives resort industry. As the creator of the ‘Wellness Your Way’ initiative, Victoria has developed recipes and shared with guests her philosophy of eating well for health and a more sustainable planet Earth.

Pecan Cookies Ingredients:

250g pecan halves 1 free-range egg, preferably pasture-raised 1 tbsp grass-fed butter at room temperature ½ tsp baking soda ¼ tsp sea salt flakes ¼ cup erythritol (if you are not keto, then you can use coconut sugar) Extra pecan halves for decoration

Method:

Step one – activate your pecans Nuts and seeds contain phytic acid, a substance that they produce to stop predators from eating them. However, when humans consume phytic acid, it inhibits our ability to absorb essential minerals such as magnesium, potassium and calcium. Activating also removes the bitter flavour that nuts can have. Place the pecans in a bowl, cover with water, and add one tsp of raw apple cider vinegar. Leave it for five to six hours and then drain and place them in the oven to dry for 12 hours at 60° Celsius. Step two - make the cookies Place pecans in a food processor (or blender) and process until they resemble a fine crumb. Add all other ingredients and process together until it forms a ball, like a dough. Use a spoon to make round balls and place them on a lined baking tray. Press a pecan half into the dough and flatten the ball with your fingers. Bake them for nine to 10 minutes at 175° Celsius. Remove from the oven and leave for at least one hour to cool down as they can be delicate and easily break when warm.

AN IMPRESSIVE SUV THE BELOVED TOYOTA LAND CRUISER IS BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER.

94

www.ohlala-magazine.com

DIVA Drives t OHLALA, we always love trying something new, especially when that something is the fabulous 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser GX-R. Having never test driven a Toyota for Diva Drives before, we were most excited when presented with the keys by the outstanding team at Toyota Bahrain. Toyota is a massively successful Japanese brand, that has been developing and producing these beloved SUVs for over 70 years, and in the process has established the Land Cruiser as a household name. Upon first inspection we were taken by the robust and powerful presence of the GX-R. Available in 10 distinct exterior colours, this fully-fledged off-roader really looks the part with its bulky frame and array of functional features. At the front end, the radiator grille, along with the three-bulb LED headlamps, have been positioned higher to reduce the risk of damage during off-road adventuring. Constantly illuminated clearance lamps are connected to the grille ensuring you don’t bump the vehicle’s large frame at any time.

At the flanks, the powerful silhouette of the vehicle is defined by sharply contrasting lines, whilst roof rails and 20-inch alloy wheels add to the rugged nature of the vehicle. The completely flat bonnet joins a vertical grille at a near 90-degree angle, a design element matched by the roof and back doors. The contemporary design of the rear is defined by its modern shape that mirrors the straight lines of the rest of the vehicle and underscores the SUV’s solid stance. LED rear combination lamps are fitted as standard, while the wide rear bumper doubles as a step to assist with entering the vehicle. Once seated in the two-tone, synthetic leather, power adjustable front seats, we found the all-new interior of the 2022 model to be a sophisticated, practical and comfortable space. All materials used are of a high quality and everything has been positioned to maximise convenience. All the controls and switches have been cleverly grouped and are simple to operate, even while tackling challenging terrain. The cabin itself offers a multitude of advanced features including four-zone climate control and wireless charging for smartphones.

“The contemporary design of the rear is defined by its modern shape that mirrors the straight lines of the rest of the vehicle and underscores the SUV’s solid stance.”

The cluster gauge features a seven-inch, colour multi-function display along with a 12.3-inch multimedia display. This smartly designed and user-friendly system supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Optional features include a 14-speaker JBL sound system, a Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) system with 11.6-inch, dual touch-screen displays as well as smart entry and start systems, amongst others. Space wise, this vehicle comfortably accommodates seven adults in its three rows of seating, with plenty of head, shoulder and leg room on offer. The luggage compartment also offers ample space to pack for long off-road adventures, especially with the third row of seats folded flat. Performance wise, the 2022 GX-R is powered by a newly developed 3.5-litre, V6 twin-turbo petrol engine that surpasses the performance of a conventional V8. It produces 409hp and up to 650Nm of torque. This capable engine is coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission, a unit that assists in the reduction of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 10% compared to the outgoing generation. This setup allows the GX-R to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in a respectable 6.7 seconds, pretty impressive for a vehicle of this weight and size.

96

The drivability factor of this car is where it really begins to shine. The 2022 GX-R offers three driving modes, namely Eco, Normal and Sports. The full-time 4WD System with 50-Mode Multi-terrain Select, along with Active Traction Control, CRAWL Control and Turn Assist Function ensure you are able to conquer any terrain this vehicle encounters. We found the handling of this SUV to be spot on and along with its effective braking system, superb traction control and superior cornering abilities, this is one of the most enjoyable vehicles we have ever had the privilege of test driving. We can only imagine everything the Land Cruiser VX-R and GR Sport versions, also available in the 2022 range, have to offer. Safety wise, the designers at Toyota have included a range of safety and assistance features to ensure the wellbeing of you and your loved ones. These include 10 SRS airbags including side-curtain airbags for all three rows, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA), Parking Support Brake (PKSB) Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Downhill Assist Control (DAC), Tire Pressure Warning System (TPWS), a clearance sonar featuring eight sensors located on both front and rear bumpers, and so much more.

MISS Ohlala

ALL THE SINGLE LADIES OUR ISSUE THIS MONTH IS DEDICATED TO THE WEDDING THEME, AND MISS OHLALA REFLECTS ON THE OPPOSITE OF MARRIAGE – SINGLE LIFE! Many young girls dream of getting married in a big puffy white dress when they become grown women – but some of us just don't. Some don't even dream of getting married. And that's absolutely fine. There is nothing wrong with pursuing your own interests and focusing on yourself. If meeting your soul mate along the way happens, great! And if not, you can still find fulfilment and happiness with yourself and all the loving people around you. The truth is that women can be happy with themselves. A study done by the market research firm Mintel found out that 61% of single women say they are satisfied with their relationship status, compared to 49% of single men. And a further 75% of single women are not even actively looking for a partner, compared to 65% of single men. This means that women are single and loving it. Prince Charming can wait or not even show up. However, if you are not too happy being single, here are ideas to improve your relationship with yourself: - Spend time with yourself. Being single allows you to work on your relationship with yourself. - Make your own choices and hold yourself accountable for those choices. - Cultivate and prioritise nonromantic relationships, such as deepening solid friendships. - Go after your hobbies and embrace them. - Every relationship comes with a certain amount of compromise, but when you're single, you get to call the shots. - Make plans with other single friends.
