The E.L.V. DENIM (East London Vintage Denim) brand was founded by designer Anna Foster and follows the concept of a zero-waste brand. DENIM finds the perfect material first, then decides what can be made from it. The denim is sourced from warehouses around the UK, washed by a launderette in London and dropped off at the E.L.V. DENIM studio in an electric car. All parts of the jeans are either used to make new products, given to a local artist or donated to art schools around the UK for sustainability projects. Virtual Wardrobe Tommy Hilfiger has partnered with eight user-generated content designers from the Roblox community to create and promote a Tommy X Roblox Creators collection. hen it was launched in 1995, the Palloncino single ear clip became one of Vhernier’s most loved items. The design has evolved over the years, and earrings and rings carry the iconic balloon shape in different materials. The new collection is made in full pavé diamonds, and the new pieces include a ring and ear clip, available in white or black full pavé set in gold. The two Palloncino black and white rings, when paired together, result in a stunning look. Their ergonomic shape allows them to be worn on the same finger in opposite directions. The ear clip can be paired with a model made with diamonds the same colour, but it can also be worn with the black and white aesthetic. Exclusively made with strictly natural stones, the pavé of the Palloncino is a demonstration of Vhernier’s artisanal expertise. Each diamond is set with precision and supported by two prongs, limiting the amount of visible metal. This procedure takes countless hours of work, but it creates an endless stream of diamonds.

The Milanese brand does not adhere to conventional codes of jewellery design. Instead, it chooses to create its own rules characterised by simple shapes, soft curves, bold dimensions, and ergonomic construction. Vhernier’s style reflects its love for sculpture, architecture and contemporary art. Materials such as rose gold with a mirror finish, non-rhodium plated white, gemstones in different nuanced colours and brilliant diamonds are part of Vhernier’s portfolio. he focus on the eyes is more evident than ever. The constant use of masks makes eyes the only visible feature on the face. Strong and emotive, the eye contour is also delicate and fragile. The atmosphere under the mask is warmer and wetter and generates condensation that rises towards the eye contour. This can affect the skin barrier function and possibly unbalance the microbiome in the area, which is particularly sensitive to temperature and humidity variations. The brand is now launching a new formula in its Advanced Génifique Yeux that cares for the sensitive eye contour area. Lancôme Research Centre has revealed that the skin around the eyes has a specific microbiome. It is also, on average, three times thinner than the rest of the face and can easily dehydrate, resulting in faster and earlier ageing signs. The product is enriched with a unique complex of seven pre and probiotic fractions for its complementary action on the skin microbiome and its environment. an you imagine having an entire day just for yourself ? Even when you are in one of your busiest weeks (press week in my case) and you tell the world to stop just because you deserve it! Well, I did it, and I regret nothing. And where did I go for my special day? To Dessange – of course! My visit started at the parking lot. For your convenience, Dessange has helpful valet parking. You won’t be late for your appointments or classes; they will take care of your car for a fast and hassle-free arrival. I then walked to the reception area, where the girls are always attentive and friendly, making sure you know your schedule for the day. They checked my green shield and gave me my locker key. As I would spend the day enjoying a unique experience, having a locker with all the necessary amenities was great. Inside you’ll find a super-comfy robe, soft slippers, a big towel, shower cap, and more inside the private cupboards. I put all my belongings in there and took my water bottle to the Health Club, where I joined a Body Pump class with Jacklyn. You don’t actually need to take anything apart from disposition. There is a tray with a sanitiser, tissue box and water. That day the class had the teacher and four ladies. Each of us had our own station with our step platform, weights and mat. The training was intense, to say the least. It follows the original Barbell workout to tone all the muscle groups. Jacklyn is full of energy, and she motivated us in every movement. I have to confess that I am not very athletic, and it was pretty hard for me. However, despite finding it difficult at times, the other ladies were great and followed every command. I, on the other hand, started pretty pumped, but by the end of the 45-minute workout, I was not able to keep up. Jacklyn was the nicest, saying that I did well; however, I know I didn’t – but thanks Jackie!

One of the factors that kept me moving was knowing that after the exercising part, I would be pampered in the spa area – sweet! I took a shower to remove the sweat and headed to the spa. Lovely Joie, the Spa Manager, greeted me and told me to use the facilities before my facial treatment appointment. My muscles were tired, so I decided to spend some time in the steam room – what a good choice! I felt all the toxins leaving my pores with all the sweating. I closed my eyes and enjoyed the experience. After some steam time, I took another shower and entered the warm Jacuzzi. The water was really hot, and I remembered Joie telling me the benefits of shifting from the hot water to the cold pool right in front of the Jacuzzi. I decided to do that. Wow! Wow! The temperature shock seems to wake up every cell in your body. I can only say that it was one of the best feelings I have ever had. It is proven that alternating between hot and

cold water strengthens your vasculature (veins and arteries), improving the cardiovascular system. I highly recommend it, mainly after exercising. It was time for the Ultimate Glow facial treatment. I felt very lucky because Joie was my therapist for the day; she is a master of knowledge in the field. The primary purpose of this treatment is to promote hydration. What I learned that day with Joie is that even when your skin is oily, it is a sign that it is de-hydrated. She analysed my complexion and said it was dry and sensitised (a skin condition triggered by external factors and lifestyle). The therapy started with my feet being cleaned with a warm towel. She then moved to cleanse my face in a rhythmic process that felt like a touch dance on my face, then applied an exfoliating enzyme that had its effect intensified by a steaming machine making the extraction part easier.

My skin was ready to be soaked in nourishing nutrients. A moisturising mask followed by a serum application accompanied by an incredible facial massage. And while the mask’s goodness was penetrating my complexion, Joie gave me a meticulous shoulder and scalp massage to improve circulation in the area. I have to say that all services at Dessange are incredible, but I adore the spa treatments and they always offer therapies that go beyond my expectations. I have to highlight that all products used were from the Dessange brand, and I ended up purchasing them for my home care. My day was not finished; I headed to the salon area to get my roots retouched and finalised with Kaoutar’s fantastic styling skills. While waiting for the dye to re-act, I sipped a yummy smoothie called Love Potion, made with banana, strawberry, orange and yoghurt. Before giving my hair a final touch, she worked on my make-up. I don’t remember ever getting

professional make-up done before, maybe years ago for a wedding or special occasion, but definitely not as specialised and complete as that done by Kaoutar. She transformed my face! I looked like me but in an improved version - perfect skin and beautiful purple and shiny eyeshadow to match my complexion tone. I looked like a stunning model, those you see on magazine covers. I loved it! I’ve seen those before and after transformations and was aware of how well-done make-up can change you. However, when it is done on you, it is mind-blowing. I went home, and my family could barely believe it was the same person they waved goodbye to in the morning. I had to register this beautiful result with an Insta post that was followed by an array of compliments. So good for my self-esteem. OHLALA - How did you start your career in hospitality? What have been the most significant accomplishments and challenges you faced during this period? Neyran Canatan - I studied in Marmaris in Turkey – a big tourism destination. I believe this fact has played an important role in my career and made me pursue a career in hotel management. Each hotel comes with its own journey – leading five openings and one closing was a challenge, but it was an extraordinary experience where plenty of opportunities presented themselves that helped me improve and analyse what I can achieve. Opening a hotel is like conducting an orchestra – all the instruments must play correctly at the same time to produce the right music. My ethos is that learning, innovation, organisation and communication are the keys to success. Now I am GM of Zallaq Resort Company, which owns Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa and Zallaq Laundry. I am also the owners’ representative for Mercure Grand Hotel Seef. OHLALA - The hospitality sector is an essential mechanism in the tourism field. What do you think are the critical aspects that a hotel/resort must have to succeed in the market? Neyran - The right and dynamic team is the first essential part of the success of any hotel. The product plays a crucial role – harmony between the owners of the hotel and the management plays a vital role in triumphing. Another essential element is a place where you can continually innovate and create by presenting new experiences that you can market alongside a creative team ready to elevate guest experiences with unique offerings. OHLALA - What main features specific to Sofitel Bahrain make it such a beloved destination in Bahrain for both residents and visitors? Neyran - The property caters to all demographic segments – families, adults, couples and kids by taking care of and anticipating their needs to ensure they are happy during their stay. The knack of planning in advance with clear know-how of the journey and not relying on last-minute decision-making is also a women’s characteristic that helps them be good leaders. OHLALA - If you could choose a second career, what would it be? Neyran - I would say that my second career would be in construction or restoration. I love taking something old and giving it new life by maintaining its original identity. OHLALA - For how long has Bahrain been your home? What do you like most about the Kingdom? Neyran - This is my second time in Bahrain – I have been here for 11 years in total, and I have honestly loved every moment here. What makes Bahrain unique is its people – well educated, humble, warm and tolerant to all religions and cultures. There was not one moment I felt that I wasn’t welcome. Bahrain feels like my second home – one of the safest countries in the GCC, which is a big comfort for my family, especially my daughter. Bahrain is a small world with many nationalities, just like a cultural mosaic, and I honestly love being a part of a harmonious nation.

he centrepiece of a home, a bedroom is not merely a place to sleep; it is a place of rest and relaxation, a place we use to care for ourselves. Our personal haven. A space that is truly your own and only your own. And with an ongoing pandemic and a continued sense of social isolation, it is imperative we give serious thought to this single room. The Bed Let’s begin with the main feature of this space: the bed. Often, the trouble with this huge piece of furniture is figuring out the optimal area to place it. Doriana Spadaro, an interior designer and decorator interviewed by OHLALA, suggests keeping it away from openings such as doors and windows. She highly recommends this, in line with the feng-shui style. “In a bedroom, the position of the bed is crucial for the enjoyment of a restful sleep. According to feng-shui, it is not recommended to place it near a door or window. This is because whilst we are unconscious, we do not feel safe when we stay next to an opening. Therefore, the best solution is to place the bed against a wall which also allows us to enjoy a beautiful view of the outside ambience,” she complements. Personal Touch The question that beguiles people the most is how to make a bedroom personal. Doriana suggests we look at two key factors: comfort and balance. “A good rest before facing the day is vital, and hence, so is comfort. But a bedroom is not necessarily only for sleep, there are other functions, such as dressing up, relaxing, reading, watching television and many other things. Do not overdo it with trying to incorporate too many functions into one room. They key word is ‘balance’,” she adds. The Luminosity Light is an important aspect of any room and is especially significant when it comes to the bedroom. When designing a bedroom, one has to take both natural light and electric light into account. Bigger windows give the room a brighter and fresher look, while smaller windows give the room a cosier feel. It all depends on personal taste, but Doriana recommends larger windows to “put us in contact with natural elements such as the sky and trees that are good for our mood”. For the evening, she advises soft light, bright enough to be able to see things such as clothes and accessories, as well as personal items on our bedside tables, but dim enough to induce a calm atmosphere for a good night’s sleep. The designer also suggests “lamps to illuminate desks and bedside tables to be able to read and write.”

MOBILFORM CALLIGARIS BY WESTERN FURNITURE

Perfect Shade Light and colour are intertwined, according to Doriana. With lighter coloured walls comes the reduced need for larger windows, but for anyone going for darker shades, such as red or navy, more natural light is needed to make sure one does not get depressed, especially in the winter when sunlight hours are reduced. Colour is also very important for sleep, “as more aggressive or exciting hues can compromise our ability to rest”, says the designer. She recommends subdued greens and calming blues. Leafy Friends Houseplants are an essential ingredient of the bedroom, according to Doriana, “plants are not only decorative, but also important for our well-being, a key antidote to stress, an aide to a calming sleep and a natural air-purifier. Even the simple fact of being in contact with nature helps improve our mood.” Despite this, she warns those considering welcoming this leafy friend into their bedrooms that “flowering plants in the bedroom could make one’s sleep last longer than they would like or wake them up in the middle of the night, especially for those who are allergic”. For those not sensitive to plants and flowers, the designer vouches for lavender, which can have a soothing effect. And for those who are sensitive, she suggests white roses or – for those who would prefer plants – snake plants, bamboo palms or flamingo plants.

OHLALA Couples’ Quarrels One thing that can cause a bit of a tiff is catering to a partner as well as yourself. But a disagreement can always be avoided with a good attitude and a willingness to compromise. “We must listen to the needs of each other and find a middle ground,” says Doriana. “Once I was furnishing a couple’s room, the room was very large, and he absolutely wanted to put his exercise bike in; his wife disagreed. In the end I created an effective “room in the room” to host the exercise bike and the two were very happy.” Things to Avoid As we all know, designing a bedroom can prove to be a bit tricky, as it is a permanent space that you will have to live in for a long while. So, thinking ahead is crucial, and there are some things that you should absolutely avoid. Doriana stresses the importance of storage in this case, “your wardrobes must be organised very well with a planned space for bags and accessories. Opt for containers to compartmentalise your belongings and have everything tidy. This will improve your quality of sleep in a significant manner. When you open your eyes for the first time in the morning, you will feel ready for the day instead of feeling anxious and frustrated.” Another no-no, according to the designer, is overstuffing the room. “The primary function of your room is providing a space for sleep. Do not put overly big sofas, large desks, or make too much room for secondary activities.”

The Meadows is a great green expanse not far from the main university of Edinburgh and frequented by students. inimally elegant was the first thing that came to my mind as the car approached the entrance of the refreshingly simple structure, which actually adopts the look of a residence building. As we received the friendliest welcome from the valet, a smile was drawn to our lips and refused to fade even after we left. On the other side of the revolving door, the natural light warmed the space and the colour palette of cream and indigo blue with white-washed wood, were pleasant to the eye. A brilliant choice of colours that perfectly complemented the green of the olive trees that bring the space to life. And a beautiful contradiction to the dried flowers used to decorate the tables. From this moment on, the five-star treatment is all you get. At Origins restaurant, I found the staff very attentive and hospitable. I cannot but mention the classy choice of outfit that matches the colour scheme of the restaurant. A very fresh look ready to be at your service. I was impressed when the lovely waiter offered me a small spoon for my tabbouleh jar without me asking… Well done team V! The buffet follows the ‘beautiful inside out’ concept. None of the dishes we tried failed to meet my expectations. Attractive plating, quality ingredients and perfect execution, all leading to tasty, well-balanced flavours across the board. Whatever your personal taste, you will find your fix among the different stations – from the cold seafood and freshly sliced sashimi station to the extensive salad station to the warm appetisers, namely a tangy spinach fatayer, cheese samosa and meat Kibbeh. Take my word for it and make a long stop in front of the chicken satay plate with that deep orange, spicy sauce… Big like! Whether you start your meal with it or save it to the end, don’t forget to visit the cheese counter and bread stand! We fell more than a little in love. The main course options are fairly diverse. While my daughter and partner enjoyed the flavorful beef roast with earthy mushroom sauce and potatoes, as well as the delicious short ribs, I savoured every single mouthful of the beef biryani and butter chicken. These are familiar, comforting dishes and were done so very well. Fish is also on the menu and the beef stew sounds just right with the chill in the weather. Pair it all with the right beverage, and you will find yourself mesmerised at the best culinary party ever. This is my kind of Friday! With a cup of coffee or tea, treat yourself and your companions to a wide selection of sweet creations all perfectly executed. Crème Brûlée, cheesecake, Pâte à Choux, mille-feuille, Galette du Roi, fruit tart… so many delicious little sweet temptations. The chosen live entertainment is an absolute success; you know it when you start singing along or dancing in your seat. It is not too loud, yet you cannot ignore it. We loved the atmosphere! hen stepping into the lobby of Royal Saray Resort Managed by Accor, the impression is that you are entering a palace – a royaltyworthy ambience. The décor brings a combination of marble and Arabic designs in expansive spaces. Cool off-white marble flooring is a reference to the pearl colour, an homage to Bahrain’s pearling heritage, and crystal chandeliers add a feminine touch and a sophisticated feel. The reception lobby invites you into an Arabesque courtyard inspired by the traditions of a royal Bahraini summer house. To our joy, the high-tea afternoon was going to happen in this area at The Palm Lounge. We were greeted by Aby Mathew, the Food and Beverage Manager, who explained the experience we were about to embark on. We sat on a comfortable sofa with stupendous views of the Arabian Sea, which created the perfect atmosphere for an enjoyable time. The afternoon tea is composed of sweet treats, savoury bites and freshly-baked scones, accompanied by tea or coffee. I ordered my favourite hot drink, an Americano, while my companion opted for a pot of Earl Grey tea. My coffee was spot on! With this kind of drink, you can’t really hide flavours, and the roast was just right at the correct temperature. There were no teabags; the tea was made with leaves placed in a special container to deliver a precious warm liquid.

In no time, a beautiful stand with trays layered in different levels showcased all the amazing bites we were about to devour. It is frequently said that people eat with their eyes first, and that’s exactly what we did. We took some time to appreciate the beauty of the carefully constructed treats. The small delights looked flawless and were painted in different colours with distinct textures, showing great attention to detail. We started with the scones that were served with homemade preserve and clotted cream. Saying that they were dreamy and delicious is an understatement. They had a thin crust with the softest interior and were also warm, which made our gluttony even better (and more sinful). In my opinion, they were best eaten plain, and nothing was necessary to improve their flavour or texture. A sip of coffee and I needed nothing else for a perfect mouthful. We moved to the savoury options. The Creamy Mushroom Vol Au Vent was a small hollow case of puff pastry filled with delicate mushroom pieces in a smooth sauce; the pastry was thin and flaky, as expected, and melted in our mouths. The Brie Cheese Walnut Bread & Fig is a classic combination of sweet and savoury that leaves no room for mistakes, and it delivered the desired dance of flavours on our palates. The Beef Bresaola Grissini Breadstick showcased a crispy breadstick encapsulated by an authentic lean Bresaola (fine dry-cured meat) slice. However, the star of the savoury dishes was the Cranberry Tarfile Chicken Sandwich that reminded my companion of a perfect Christmas bite and brought back warm memories that few foods tend to give us. A Smoked Salmon Mille Feuille completed the savoury bites selection. If the amuse-gueules kick-started our palates, the sweets ended the experience on a decidedly high note. The selection offers Tiramisu, Mango Tart, Coffee Opera, Vanilla Mille Feuille, Pistachio Religieuse and Raspberry Macaron. The aspect that caught our attention most was that all the pastries were delicate and had the ideal texture. They were also all very different; from the flaky layers of the Mille Feuille to the perfection of the choux pastry in the Pistachio Religieuse. The Tiramisu had a balanced hint of coffee, and the Raspberry Macaron was crunchy on the outside and soft and luscious on the inside. It had a pleasant almond flavour and, unlike most macarons, it was not overly sweet. Our food journey was reaching an end, and Aby came to see us once again. While talking to him, we discovered why the pastry dough was the afternoon’s highlight – the pastry chef has years of experience and is passionate about French desserts. And instead of overcompensating the sweets with sugar, he relies on his ability to produce impeccable delights with delicate textures. If you are looking for an enjoyable afternoon with stunning views, delectable treats, and the sound of a lovely pianist, the Afternoon Tea at Royal Saray is the right place for you.

OHLALA - There is a saying that you can make someone fall in love with you through their stomach. Do you agree? Victoria - I believe that this saying comes from a couple of different things. Sharing a meal with someone is time spent connecting. It is an opportunity to have a one-on-one with someone, put down electronic devices, talk and explore the other person and, with traditional seating arrangements, to gaze into someone’s eyes without feeling awkward. Secondly, for me, the act of spending time cooking for another person is a way to show care and love for them. It is also a way to provide them nourishment and nurture, a deep-seated and primal urge for us as humans. Many animal species bring food to their loved ones to show care and even ‘court’. OHLALA - What do you think would be a perfect meal to be shared with a loved one? Victoria - For me, brunch is a meal that I believe can make you connect. For most people leading busy lives, a normal day’s breakfast is a hurried affair with little thought put into it. However, having brunch together, especially on an island resort like the one I live in, is an opportunity to spend time on a meal, talk about life and savour different flavours. OHLALA - What are the elements that can’t be missed? Victoria – A combination of elements. A place that is not connected by work that can detract from the focus on each other. Somewhere with nature and fresh air will also nourish your body. Walking to the venue – walking with your partner is a way to talk without confrontation. Walking side by side removes any barrier that eye contact can bring. Leaving your electronic devices at home – we are so conditioned that we must answer messages, emails and calls these days. Keeping our devices at home is one of the biggest commitments we can make to having quality time with our loved ones. You might miss out on a photo opportunity, but memories are more lasting than another photo stored in the cloud that you might not even look at again. OHLALA - Is it possible to make an unforgettable meal even with some food restrictions? Victoria - Absolutely. Eating lifestyles should not, these days, be thought of as restrictions as there are so many ingredients in supermarkets, recipes online and even ready-made food freely available. When I was first diagnosed with Celiac Disease more than 30 years ago, you couldn’t even buy rice flour in the supermarket! Anyone who embraces an eating lifestyle must also embrace creative thinking about food, throwing out our old conventions and welcoming innovation. For example, the recipe for my macadamia chocolate truffles is an old family recipe containing dairy and sugar. By simply substituting coconut cream, dark chocolate and erythritol, it is now both keto and vegan!

Hearty, healthy ingredients are used to create wellness recipes to enjoy on Valentine’s Day.

Raspberry Coconut Muffins Ingredients: 1 ½ cup almond flour 1 cup ground almond 1 tbsp psyllium husk 1 ½ tsp baking powder ½ cup erythritol (or sugar if not low carb/keto) 1 cup fresh organic raspberries 1 cup coconut flakes 1 cup coconut milk or cream 3 grass-fed eggs (or three flax eggs for a vegan option) 1 vanilla pod, scraped ¹⁄₃ cup coconut oil Method: Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl. Add raspberries and coconut flakes and gently mix and set aside. Lightly beat eggs and add coconut cream, oil and vanilla. Add the mixture to the dry ingredients. Gently fold together, then place in reusable silicone muffin cups — bake for 25 mins at 180° Celsius.

Chocolate Macadamia Truffles Ingredients:

200ml coconut cream ¼ cup erythritol 1 vanilla bean 250g dark chocolate buttons (84% ) 100g macadamia crumbs Method: Scrape the vanilla bean and place it in a small saucepan with coconut cream and erythritol. Heat slowly until bubbles form, stirring occasionally. Roughly cut the chocolate and place it in a heatproof bowl. Pour the heated coconut cream mixture over and allow to sit for five minutes. Stir together and allow to cool completely. Form balls with your hands, then roll in the macadamia crumb. Refrigerate until firm.

ince the 1940s, Ferrari have produced some of the most exclusive and sought-after road sports cars on the planet. Few other motorcar manufacturers have been able to match the popularity and success of this highly celebrated brand, a truth that becomes obvious the moment you stand in front of one of their glorious creations. OHLALA was recently invited to test drive the latest Ferrari Roma, thanks to the exceptional team at Ferrari Middle East, and to be honest, we can’t stop talking about it! As soon as the 2021 Roma came into view, we knew we were in for a treat. This new Ferrari with its signature Italian styling is characterised by its clean design, elegant volumes and harmonious proportions. The master designers

at Ferrari have removed any and all unnecessary detailing, leaving behind a classic looking sports car, reminiscent of the carefree lifestyle of 1950s and ‘60s Rome, thus the name, ‘Roma’. At the front end, a new radiator concept takes centre stage, complemented by the full-LED adaptive headlights that are harmoniously traversed by a horizontal light strip, leading the eye to the subtle prancing horse badge, set like a jewel at the front of the vehicle. Long, ultra-sleek lines sweeping from bonnet to boot highlight the shapely flanks as well as the compact, set-back cabin. At the back end, the wraparound screen incorporates an active aero device, while the twin taillight assembly and dual twin exhaust system finish off the impressive exterior design with a flourish.

Slipping into the comfy and supportive, multi-adjustable front sport seats, we were immediately taken by Ferrari’s dual cockpit concept, consisting of two separate cells, one for the driver and one for the passenger. As we sat in silence, taking in all the luxurious detailing, we could see that Ferrari, as expected, has spared no expense in ensuring the new Roma has one of the most beguiling interiors available on the market. All materials, trimmings and finishes are of a superior quality and the layout itself couldn’t have been designed better. Boot wise, the new Roma has a capacity of 345 litres, not bad for a two-seater coupé. The development of the interior took its lead from the complete redesign of the Human Machine Interface (HMI). The state-of-the-art steering wheel houses all of the car’s main commands, actioned by touch-sensitive controls. This design follows Ferrari’s philosophy of ‘Eyes on the road, hands on the wheel’. All of the new Roma’s necessary information can be accessed through the impressive, 16-inch digital instrument cluster. Additionally, we found the 8.4-inch vertical screen housed in the central display, along with the new passenger display, to be highly intuitive and easy to navigate.

As satisfying as both the exterior and interior inspections were, the highlight of our day was engaging the ignition. The sound of the V8 - 90° turbo engine reverberated across the parking area and turned the heads of all those within earshot. This beast of an engine boasts a displacement of 3,855cc, a maximum power output of 456kW at 5,750 – 7,500rpm and a maximum torque of 760Nm at 3,000 – 5,750rpm. Furthermore, the new and improved Roma can bullet from 0-100km/h in a mere 3.4 seconds, from 0-200km/h in just 9.3 seconds and boasts a top speed of no less than 320wkm/h! With all of this power on offer, Ferrari have included a cutting-edge vehicle dynamics system to ensure the driver is in complete control at all times. This system includes the Side Slip Control 6.0 with five-position manettino and Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer which controls yaw angle by hydraulically adjusting brake pressure at the callipers. The suspension, handling and overall drivability of the Roma is amongst the very best we have experienced and we thoroughly enjoyed the entire journey. The fact that the designers have included a wide array of safety features throughout the vehicle only adds to the comfortability factor and allows you to relax and enjoy the phenomenal driving experience all the more.

Love is often portrayed as a fantastical whirlwind romance, with butterflies and roses and ice cream on noses. We see it everywhere: in movies, songs, and the stories we tell one another. It’s the highest romantic ideal — the lofty picture of togetherness and happiness. But submerging oneself into the most admired of human emotions will yield a paradox of unfamiliar and strange feelings. We start to think to ourselves, “but love was supposed to be nicer”. The rosey images of love shatter as, all around us, relationships break down, couples married for decades divorce, and a once happy pair of smiles turns into two not-so-happy ones. A host of philosophers and respected writers have written about this emotion throughout history. They can offer great insight into the meandering and labyrinthine paths of love, with an emphasis on its more troubling and not-so-rosey sides as an ode to its everlasting beauty and power. Thinkers such as Khalil Gibran, Jalal Ad-Din Rumi, Leo Tolstoy, Rainer Maria Rilke and Susan Sontag purport that suffering and hardship are essential ingredients of love. People assume the start of a relationship means an end to pain, loneliness and isolation, but many will beg to differ. All these things remain part of the experience of living and are especially characteristic of love, the most tormenting emotion we can feel for another person. Love is fated to be imperfect, incomplete and flawed because the human condition is essentially imperfect, too. Anyone who has trod the difficult path of love is familiar with its agonising challenges, its cavernous afflictions, its lip-biting regrets. But it is precisely because of its defects and hardships that it is such a prized sentiment. Therein lies the beauty and honour of love.
