With the nice weather comes the wedding season in this part of the world. From November to May (if you prefer warmer temperatures but not boiling), couples tie the knot and vow to stay together until death does them part. Ceremonies are planned in advance and family and friends get together to celebrate the newlyweds. With residents from different parts of the world, traditions are also diverse, but our November issue comes with a white nuptial rite in mind. We bring gown choices, accessories, beauty styles, the best venues in Bahrain to celebrate your big day and unique places for a destination wedding. The jewellery and watches scene has the perfect stage to thrive this month; the highly anticipated Jewellery Arabia Bahrain 2022 is happening from November 22 to 26. The event is celebrating 30 years of success in putting together the most desirable brands in the field under the same roof. A new label is also entering the market, Qannati Objet d’Art, and we had the pleasure of talking to Mahmood Qannati, the founder of this unique concept born in Bahrain with a French touch.
In the beauty department, we bring high-end make-up collections. But the highlight of this section has to be the pampering spa and beauty day we had at the newly opened Cocoon Wellness Spa at Hilton Bahrain. An experience that we are looking forward to repeating!
It’s time to embrace the good weather by creating an enjoyable outdoor area in your home. We bring ideas to help you in this mission.
If you are a Mediterranean cuisine enthusiast, don’t miss out on our dining experience at Bagatelle Bahrain. And if you are a car aficionado, read all about the 2022 Rolls-Royce Ghost in our test drive.
Let our words inspire your month!

Georges Hobeika does eyecatching evening wear and memorable wedding gowns. A brand-new and unique dress is in most brides’ dreams.
SOMETHING…
There is a British saying that brides should wear something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a sixpence in their shoe on their wedding day. We selected a few ideas to help you embrace this tradition.
When it comes to something blue, the options are vast, from a hairpiece to your shoes. However, if you want something more discreet, look for a piece of jewellery that shows off your style, maybe these not-sosubtle Fabergé earrings?
There's nothing better than wearing your old fragrance to your big day. Spray your favourite scent to help you carry your old self with you on this new phase of your life. Is CHANEL N° 5 your trademark smell?
A heirloom piece of jewellery borrowed from your mum or grandma’s collection is the perfect delicate touch to your outfit. This Pragnell Vintage from FARFETCH’s pre-owned selection is a platinum Edwardian pearl and diamond pendant necklace.
A bride should place a sixpence coin in her left shoe before walking down the aisle for good luck, longevity and prosperity. If you embrace this tradition, a closed pair like these from Malone Souliers is the best option.

I DO!
Say these simple words while wearing your dream dress or special frock. No matter your preference, wear what makes you feel pretty. It can be a fluffy number with layers of tulle, an effortless gown or even a suit. Combine it with eye-catching shoes to walk into your married life in something that fits your style.

GORGEOUS GOWNS
While the bride wears pristine white, guests are expected to avoid this colour. The popular black shade is also not seen as the best choice in some cultures, which leaves you with an entire palette of colourful options. TO WEAR WITH:
CORSET
During the 1500s and 1600s, corsets became popular and were worn as undergarments. With time they started to show up as tops and are a staple in wedding dresses. They are a hot trend this season, and this Gucci at FARFETCH item is a stylish pick!
1. This clothing piece inspired FENDI to create their AW 2022/2023 collection. They opted for matching fabrics of corset and shirt for subtle yet eye-catching detail.
2. Wear your corset with a maxi skirt. CH Carolina Herrera has beautiful pieces with full-on volume that allow you to compose the perfect eveningwear look.
3. They can be worn by themselves; however, adding a corset on top of a buttoned shirt gives the piece a nice and wintery touch. Weekend Max Mara has an array of tailored items that pair well with this trendy top.
4. If you are looking for a different way of wearing this clothing item, opt for jewellery pieces that can do the trick. Rokh added some sparkles to its corset for a striking twist.
5. A dress with a waist detail in a contrasting colour like this Tory Burch number can have the same effect without adding an extra clothing piece to your look. A clever option on this trend.
6. Following the same concept of wearing the corset detail without an extra piece is embraced by Sportmax as well. However, in their case, it is printed in the fabric with a metallic effect – quirky and eye-catching!
Brand collaborations, a new campaign and a striking homeware collection are the highlights in our monthly fashion and beauty news roundup!
The Milan-based brand La DoubleJ has launched Flora & Fauna, a collection of homewares crafted in their entirety by the label's Italian artisan partners. The line brings designs based on the illustrations of Romanian artist Aitch. This collection explores the Divine Feminine (the feminine aspect of the divine power that connects and binds the Earth together) with a nod to the Italian Grotesque era. Porcelain plates are crafted, baked and hand-finished with 18-carat gold rims by ceramic experts at Ancap in Verona, while textiles are cut in 100% linen manufactured on the shores of Lago Maggiore. Featuring some of the brand's most elaborate colourways, each vibrant porcelain piece has been fired several times, a labour of love to ensure the preservation of their quality. A homage to Italian craftsmanship and creativity, every item in the collection is 100% made in Italy by La DoubleJ's historical partners, a testament to the label's luxury ethos and commitment to supporting local artisanship.

Fashion Partnership
The Egyptian handbag label Okhtein made its way to Paris Fashion Week SS2023 in collaboration with French fashion house Balmain. Okhtein's co-creative directors and cofounders, sisters Aya and Mounaz Abdel Raouf, designed a bold and stunning bustier inspired by the iconic Egyptian alabaster stone, drawing from the inspiration behind Olivier Rousteing's SS23 collection for Balmain. The cuts in the top indicate a worn-out appearance and the resin, in its natural colour, is a striking material that innately gives the look and feel of the alabaster. The item is enriched with a bangle in Okhtein's iconic brass material, seen in the brand's handbags. "This piece was the most challenging project for us; however, it was an opportunity to push ourselves as designers and product developers. We are grateful for our team and the factories we work with for bringing this piece to life," stated the sisters. Okhtein is built on their passion for recreation and the storytelling of art and history through unique handcrafted pieces.
Two Are Better Than One
Another partnership during Paris Fashion Week SS2023 happened between jewellery brand MARLI New York and fashion brand MÔNOT. The collection presented comprised 31 looks in eveningwear, denim and swimwear. The pieces are loosely inspired by the minimalist art movement of the '50s, offering a full narrative of the MÔNOT DNA. Staying true to its brand ethos, the colour palette was kept minimal and pieces were beautifully complemented with MARLI's jewellery. MARLI New York is known for its simple yet magnetic aesthetic and featured key items from its signature collections during the show. Pieces worn on the runway included the Cleo Reve bangle in white gold and black onyx, Cleo Rev Ring in full diamond in white gold, the Cleo Rev ring in white gold and black onyx, the Cleo Diamond hoop earrings in white gold and black onyx and the Avenues open hinged collar necklace.

The photos capture the spirit of the '90s, from the apparel to the aesthetic. Working hand in hand with the brand, the model expresses her own point of view on FILA classics with an interpretation that is modern and effortless. "My style is ever-evolving and FILA's designs are timeless and the perfect complement to my everyday wardrobe," says Hailey. Selected styles featured in the campaign are available on FILA.com.

SHOWCASING BRILLIANCE
Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Jewellery Arabia, arguably the largest and most prestigious jewellery and watch exhibition in the Middle East, is back to dazzle with new initiatives alongside the Kingdom’s first edition of Scent Arabia.

The region’s highly anticipated winter event is returning to Bahrain, this time three times the size of the previous edition. As in the past years, the Kingdom will transform into a sparkling destination, attracting visitors and luxury aficionados. Jewellery Arabia 2022 will be hosted under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The event is scheduled to take place from November 22 to 26, boasting widened shopping walkways, an improved exhibitor and visitor experience and the launch of Scent Arabia.
The Middle East’s premier jewellery and watch event will be held at the newly constructed Exhibition World Bahrain in Sakhir. The new, state-ofthe-art venue spans over 54,000sq/m and will provide visitors with access to a wider range of renowned exhibitors from highly coveted regional and international brands. The much-revered event will include a traditional Bahraini Gold Souq, dedicated zones for watches, pearls, up-and-coming designers and pre-loved items. New labels are taking part for the first time ever, as well as various food and beverage retail outlets.
Jewellery Arabia is part of Informa Markets, a company that creates platforms for industries and specialist markets to trade, innovate and grow. Commenting on the occasion, Mohaned El Mahgoub, General Manager of Informa Markets Bahrain, said: “We are delighted to be hosting this year’s Jewellery Arabia at the newly launched Exhibition World Bahrain. The new space accommodates a larger number of exhibitors; this year’s event will leave an impressive mark on all visitors, as we aim to host an unforgettable visual experience with enhanced services and an array of products from the most prestigious brands across the world.”
Scent Arabia, the Kingdom’s first luxury fragrance event, will debut alongside Jewellery Arabia 2022, showcasing a vast selection of highend scents from across the region and the world. Jewellery and perfume enthusiasts will gather to experience a variety of fragrances and limitededition pieces.
INNOVATIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME
In another first, Jewellery Arabia 2022 will launch an innovative programme which includes several design talks and workshops with world-renowned experts within the jewellery and perfume industries. A dedicated space has been allocated for this at the event, attracting a wider audience interested in expanding their knowledge of jewellery, perfumery and the industry.
Gracing the event will be Anais Fournial, a professional perfumer from Paris and currently an instructor at the renowned ISIPCA Paris, the perfume and cosmetics training institute founded by fragrance master Guerlain in 1970. Anais is also a creator of bespoke perfumes for individuals, hospitality, events and world-renowned brands. During Scent Arabia, she will be offering visitors a series of workshops and talks. Guests will also get a chance to create their own fragrances and discover the dynamics behind perfume-making.

Further, Jewellery Arabia has partnered with Dubai Design Academy, which will be making its debut in Bahrain, to host a number of courses targeting a wide range of profiles, from established professionals seeking to improve their skill sets to young talent looking to learn the basics of jewellery making. Horlogerie
Two Of A Kind
These new creations from Vacheron Constantin’s Égérie collection are just what you need to add to your ensemble of luxurious timepieces.
The Égérie collection by Maison Vacheron Constantin is entirely inspired by and dedicated to women. In keeping with the brand’s belief of meeting expectations by designing timepieces as technically impressive as they are aesthetically stunning, this capsule symbolises the coming together of haute couture and haute horlogerie.
Each of the meticulously crafted, high-end Égérie watches invites you to make every moment more precious than the one before. Further, each of the luxurious timepieces in this range is a testament to Vacheron Constantin’s rich history. Égérie reinterprets, with refinement, the aesthetic codes from the manufacturer’s iconic models, some of which date back to the 19th century. The exquisite background pattern in the dial is inspired by a tapestry technique made possible by a unique machine dating from 1904.
NEW CREATIONS
The two new additions to this exquisite collection are the Égérie Moon Phase, which, as the name suggests, displays moon phases in addition to indicating the time. It revisits the tradition of skilful watchmaking with a poetic touch, allowing you to follow the lunar cycle over a mother-of-pearl
sea of clouds in a star-studded sky. The other is the Égérie Self-Winding, which indicates the date and time. Both come with three interchangeable taupe-coloured straps: in alligator leather, satin and quilted lambskin. Their inner beauty is revealed through a transparent sapphire crystal caseback. The numbers seem to float over a delicate drape of pure silk. While the original versions feature English numbers, watch enthusiasts in the Middle East can order a customised option with Arabic numerals. Their dials feature an 18-carat 5N pink gold ring set with round-cut diamonds. Accentuating the bezel in both versions are 58 round-cut diamonds. The Égérie Moon Phase is adorned with a total of 94 diamonds and Égérie Self-Winding, 92. The crown, used to set the time, holds a moonstone. Two of a kind, these precious bejewelled beauties come with an approximately 40-hour power reserve and are water resistant.

Modern and Minimalistic
These contemporary designs from Roberto Coin’s Black Jade collection exhibit classic taste and understated elegance.
Women of all ages and origins have fallen in love with Black Jade by the House of Roberto Coin. Combining classic taste and modern minimalism, it has ushered in a genuinely new style in jewellery. The designs convey a hint of vintage style – soft and asymmetrical. At the same time, the innovative cut and the density of the colours of the black jade, green agate and mother of pearl create contemporary and eye-catching pieces.
This choice of stones is uncommon in the world of classic jewellery and the concave cut of both the jade and the mother of pearl is even more unusual. Each stone in the collection is hand-cut in a re-interpretation of traditional craftsmanship that produces distinctive shapes. Just like a custom-tailored garment, the gold is hand-wrought to adhere perfectly to the stones, which aren’t set into the piece until the last step of production. Defined aesthetics and experimental design make every jewel a unique example of elegance and innovation and are the reasons why the Roberto Coin brand has become one of the best-known names in international jewellery in a very short time. With a constant desire to create something new and different, the label launches about five complete collections every year that are able to fulfil the market’s myriad desires. The collections are available in more than 1,000 boutiques located in 60 countries all around the world. Each one of them reverberates a clear message that conveys the mission of the company’s founder, Roberto Coin: to offer every woman the possibility to own an original piece of jewellery as unique as herself.

BANDS OF COLOUR
MARLI New York welcomes a new era of expression with the release of UNII, its first gender-neutral collection. The capsule takes its name from ‘unisex’ and ‘I’. Celebrating individuality through enriching colour and daring design, and handcrafted with the finest jewellery expertise, UNII features versatile, customisable bracelets designed to be worn in several ways.
Lending its classic form and contemporary edge to the two bracelet styles is the pyramidal gemstone, one of MARLI’s most recognisable motifs. The pyramid is an emblem associated with the power and strength of Cleopatra. It is entirely in the tradition of MARLI, a brand that exemplifies a dynamic way of life. The cabochon stone engages with Italian leather in a play of bold, chromatic combinations. The bracelets are offered in 18-carat rose or white gold variations, with select iterations adorned by brilliant-cut diamonds. The leather strap gives each bracelet true permanence, delivering on brand founder and CEO Maral Artinian’s desire to produce a universal collection with a welldefined character and an enduring sense of luxury.
Maral is a designer and entrepreneur hailing from a family whose history in fine jewellery goes back a century. Having lived in Asia, Europe and the Middle East, the designer was inevitably drawn to New York City, a place that inspired her with its incredible energy and the amazing women who create it. She founded MARLI in 2014 with the purpose of bringing a minimal, magnetic aesthetic, as seen in these bracelets and other creations. Within the world of MARLI, UNII perfectly complements the brand’s fine jewellery collections.

CHARISMATIC AND UNIQUE
Damas extends its innovative Gaia range, a one-of-a-kind diamond jewellery collection, for women who dare to be different.
Initially launched in 2021, Gaia is the region’s first lab-grown diamond collection, an innovative conception led by Damas Jewellery. The brand was established in 1907 and has earned recognition over the years as a leading jewellery retailer and manufacturer in the Middle East, with an extensive portfolio of over 180 stores across the GCC. Gaia’s diamonds are authentically made by replicating the natural process of how a diamond is created, one that is kinder to and gentler on the environment.
The lab-grown pieces bear all the hallmarks of mined stones and are certified and graded by international expert gemmologists, such as HRD Antwerp in Belgium. A testament to thoughtful elegance, each Gaia piece is awe-inspiring and the collection has been extended, offering striking creations.
According to international standards, diamonds are evaluated using the 4C’s: Cut, Clarity, Colour and Carat. Damas’s continuous pursuit of leading and innovating has beautifully introduced a fifth element: Choice. This collection gives women the freedom and opportunity to purchase diamonds that reflect who they are.
Baguette, half moon, oval or round, the cuts are among the largest diamonds available on the market, offering better value. The stunning range is made with 18-carat gold, in styles including diamond stud and drop earrings, tennis bracelets, diamond necklaces, bangles, chokers and engagement rings.
The Gaia collection has been carefully curated for the women of tomorrow: discerning and aspirational. They are also luxury lovers who choose to be different and take pride in standing out. The line’s diamonds are for passionate and adventurous culture seekers with a strong sense of self. The collection is made for conscious customers, curious about the world and eager to try new and innovative concepts. Gleaming with plenty of character, Gaia’s pieces mirror their wearer. A different type of diamond to empower women to be exactly that: different.

ART MEETS TIME
The Qannati Objet d’Art tagline is ‘The Art of Time-Keeping’, which is exactly what this unique brand offers – an exquisite way of both marking and freezing time.
If you are looking for a completely out-of-the-box concept when choosing your next watch or piece of jewellery, Qannati Objet d’Art is definitely the best brand to fulfil this desire. Mahmood Qannati created the unparalleled label in 2018, the first luxury concept anchored in France and Bahrain, designing handcrafted, wearable and collectable art objects. In the quest to make his ideas come to life, Mahmood partnered with two exceptional French master artisans, the designer Frédéric Mané, Qannati’s Artistic Director, and Jothi-Sèroj Ebroussard, a jeweller and sculptor. Both are well-known in the industry and have worked with the Place Vendôme elite, a destination in Paris for luxury and extremely high-end jewellery and watch brands.
“In Qannati Objet d’Art, we focus on the art of time-keeping rather than time-telling. Our clients are masters of their time. They travel through their lives, learning from their past, enjoying the present and having a clear vision of their future. And because every person is unique, Qannati is a canvas for those who want to celebrate precious instants by freezing moments and converting them into breathtaking wearable art pieces,” explains Mahmood.
Qannati’s brand philosophy and design identity revolve around the sacred geometry of the Flower of Life, an overlapping pattern of circles that have been present in art, sculpture, objects and architecture for thousands of years. The ancient ornamental motif symbolises divinity and power from the civilised world’s origins.
Each item created is a masterpiece with one-of-a-kind aesthetics and superior craftsmanship that combines ancient history and ancestral symbolism with authentic French savoir-faire in the jewellery-making and miniature sculpture fields. Qannati’s striking pieces can be personalised and express each client’s memory or favourite elements, a token to be kept forever. The brand is launching its first collection, Celebration of Time, with 13 masterpieces to be worn on the wrist.
All the creations are placed under a sapphire glass dome, each featuring a singular universe using a combination of precious stones and exotic materials to narrate, through miniature sculpted pieces, a chapter in the millenary journey of humankind. “Each scenario is designed to appeal to and echo what I call the dreams and aspirations of the wearer. They are a masterpiece of craftsmanship that bridges the aesthetic divide between art, jewellery and horlogerie, whether purely ornamental or functioning as a timepiece,” says Mahmood. This debut collection is comprised of six Eternity Bracelets and six Quantum Timepieces, each complementing the other as they can be worn separately or together, one on each wrist like the ancient kings of Mesopotamia. The 13th piece will remain in Qannati’s private collection and is not available to be purchased.
The Eternity Bracelets, each representing a chapter of the greater spectrum of time, from the beginning of the universe to the conquest of space, include Eternity Bracelet pieces titled Jurassic, Gladiators, First Civilization, Pearl of the Gulf, Monaco and Space Conquest.
“I have always been fascinated by watches and loved them on my wrist. However, I never cared so much about the time-telling part. In fact, when I see the seconds moving, I feel anxious, I think that I might be late and I feel that time is passing by fast like never before. Therefore, I decided to freeze time (or time-keeping). At the beginning of Qannati, I froze a lovely and dear moment in my heart. Every time I look at a 90-degree angle at the precious green emerald from my mum’s collection on my Qannati piece, I see a reflection of myself, which takes me back to when I was seven years old, holding my mum’s hand in the streets of Hamburg. It was a very happy moment and I don’t get tired of travelling back in time to it,” shares Mahmood.
In high jewellery, brands find rare gemstones and then create masterpieces around them. Qannati does the complete opposite. They design the bespoke piece and then search the world to find the right gem or material, from fossilised dinosaur bones and meteorite rocks to raw diamond slices and natural freshwater pearls.
Uniqueness, skilled and creative jewellers, superior materials, passion for history, freezing time and beauty are some of Qannati Objet d’Art’s qualities. A combination of characteristics you rarely find in any other luxury brand – wearable art in its most refined conception.

From Nature, With Love
CHANEL are taking their SUBLIMAGE line to new heights, revealing an entirely new SUBLIMAGE L’EXTRAIT formula. A powerfully concentrated composition that combines nature and advanced technology.
The SUBLIMAGE collection embodies all the house’s values by concentrating the power of botanicals into its skincare products. The formula is crafted like a piece of fine jewellery and features active ingredients created from Vanilla Planifolia, grown at the CHANEL open-sky laboratory in Madagascar – a component that has a comprehensive anti-ageing effect.
The skincare formulas are constantly being perfected, altered and revamped as CHANEL Research makes new discoveries. The SUBLIMAGE L’EXTRAIT, with the highest concentration of Vanilla Planifolia and precious oils, is now enriched with Swertia, a plant with restorative properties, native to the Himalayan mountains. The polyfractioned Vanilla Planifolia helps re-establish optimal communication between cells, promotes cellular renewal and boosts skin rejuvenation. Swertia extract reduces the production of inflammatory mediators and helps repair skin.
Formulated without fragrance, SUBLIMAGE L’EXTRAIT remains highly desirable. It allows customisation use to suit every woman’s desires. It can be worn as a treatment or a daily skincare product, depending on each individual’s skin needs. A single drop massaged gently into the face works as a moisturiser and ultimate repairing oil. SUBLIMAGE L’EXTRAIT layers easily under a serum or SUBLIMAGE L’EXTRAIT DE NUIT cream. It can also be mixed into a pea-sized amount of SUBLIMAGE lotion to give your beauty ritual a boost and make the experience even more sensorial.
LUMINOUS SKIN
Revered as a long-wearing foundation, Lancôme’s Teint Idole Ultra Wear is now available in a new formula.
It’s been 25 years since Teint Idole Ultra Wear first proved that long-wear could also be breathable. Now, Lancôme introduces Teint Idole Ultra Wear Care & Glow that stays on and offers all-over evenness and a 24-hour luminous finish. Delivering medium coverage, the product is buildable and conceals imperfections while creating a flawless effect. The product is available in 12 shades for all skin types and tones. Sometimes, it isn’t easy to pick the right hue, but you can find your perfect shade with the brand’s shade finder, available at Lancôme counters. Teint Idole’s new formula, with enhanced properties, provides a caring foundation in order to make the skin glow. It uses Lancôme’s Neo-Glow technology that fuses the product with the skin – no settling, no caking, no budging. The lightness of its pigments naturally highlights facial features, making the skin look supercharged and healthy. It is composed of an 82% glow-boosting serum and microencapsulated hyaluronic acid, known for retaining up to 1,000 times its weight in water that moisturises and increases the suppleness of the skin. Meanwhile, mandelic acid refines and smoothens the complexion. Using the foundation over time ensures benefits such as skin tone evenness, radiant complexion and smoothness.

@guccibeautyHERE COMES THE BRIDE
The most interesting bridal hair and make-up trends of this season are shortlisted by Melissa Nazareth. Whether you’re a romantic, vintage, unconventional or modern bride, we have you covered.
Winter marks the onset of wedding season in the Gulf region. The weather cools down drastically, making it the perfect time for a garden or beach reception with family and friends. Moreover, the atmosphere all around becomes festive and merry, giving off celebratory vibes. While that’s the good side to planning a wedding, there’s a flip side too. Organising an event such as this, no matter the size of your guest list, can be a nightmare. In the middle of all that, as the bride, you’ve got to take care of yourself, so you look gorgeous on your special day. Our beauty team at OHLALA understands this. Whether you’ve decide to hire a hair and make-up artist or do it all by yourself, we recommend you bookmark this feature for an overview of some of the best bridal trends this season.
THE VINTAGE
Characterised by a classical aesthetic, the vintage bride dreams of a Bridgerton-inspired wedding. Think gowns with balloon puff sleeves and corset bodices, which are trending this autumn. Complementing her traditional dress are hairstyles such as elegant ponytails and buns or braids. You could bring the best of both worlds together; braid the hair on either side of your head or tie one braid in the centre, starting right under the crown of your head. Then, connect the loose ends as a low ponytail or twist them into a bun. You could even braid your hair first and then knot the braid as a bun. Embellish with bejewelled hair accessories such as rhinestone and pearl-studded hair pins, exaggerated headpieces or veils, and even feathers for some retro glamour. The vintage bride doesn’t shy away from full-coverage make-up. She gracefully flaunts a bold red lip, which brings the entire look together. Intense, sweet-smelling scents complement her aesthetic. L’Heure Bleue by Guerlain was created in 1912, the perfect fragrance for girls that like retro scents. Its top notes are anise and bergamot.
THE ROMANTIC
The romantic girl has been dreaming of her wedding day since forever. She is feminine and, in a way, traditional – no coloured gowns here! The perfect hairstyle for this bride is the half-up and half-down look, with delicate beach waves or soft curls. It will bring out her natural beauty and feel like an extension of her flowy, Cinderella-inspired gown. We recommend accessorising with a fresh flower crown, seen on the bridal fashion runways this season, or fresh blossom studs to adorn her cascading tresses. Dramatic eyes characterise the romantic bride; having an autumnal solid aesthetic, the soft smoky eye, with voluminous lashes, is perfect for a daytime wedding and, perhaps, more intense for the night. Luscious, rosy lips complement this look, balancing the dreamy eye make-up. Floral and sweet fragrances vow to magnify the romantic bride’s aura. Viktor&Rolf’s Good Fortune scent merges floral and vanilla aromas, a great pick for the girly bride.

THE MODERN
The modern bride is minimalist. While she believes less is more, she is all up for making a statement. It could be by wearing a piece of jewellery, a family heirloom handed down across generations, or a gown with asymmetric hemlines or sensual cutouts – very much this autumn. Keeping the focus on one thing at a time, the modern bride isn’t afraid to let her hair down, literally and figuratively. Embrace this look sans accessories or continue the asymmetric theme by gathering your loose hair on one side using decorative hair slides. Another option for hair is the messy updo or messy bun, which has an easy-going, contemporary vibe. The modern bride swears by the barely-there make-up look. It includes sun-kissed and glossy finishes. Accentuate your best features and stick to earthy pallets – warm peaches, beachy blues and sage green. Leave a trail wherever you go with For Her by Narciso Rodriguez, which has an irresistibly light, sensual scent.
THE UNCONVENTIONAL
Standing on the other side of the spectrum from the vintage bride is the unconventional bride. She doesn’t care for tradition; she makes her own rules. Move over, voluminous skirts, ruffled hemlines and tiered tulle! Hello, bridal suits. Whether you go for an oversized silhouette or a tuxedo-inspired fit, wedding suits for women are back. Sleek hair is the way to go here; the Dior-inspired centre-parted Dutch braids are a great option, accessorised with a beaded headband that replaces the veil. Ribbons and bows are this season’s popular bridal accessories and will go well with bubble braids, where you bring your hair together in a high ponytail and then tie it at multiple points across the length. If you have curly hair, the pineapple style or high ponytail on the crown of your head is a great way to show off those tendrils. Embodying the unconventional vibe are quirky winged eyeliners, metallics swept across the eye, and Simone Rocha-inspired face jewels. If you want to highlight that pout instead, a pop of bright neon pink could easily seal the deal. Unisex perfumes continue the non-conformist pattern. Maison Francis Kurkdjian 724 fragrance brings the freshness of bergamot mixed with white musk for a scent for all.
PRESS RELAX
Sometimes we need to pause our busy everyday lives, say no to commitments, and go for a spa day. OHLALA’s Fernanda Langhammer did just that! She enjoyed an unwinding session at Cocoon Wellness Spa at Hilton Bahrain.
Spotlight
For all spa and wellness lovers, there is a new destination on the island: Cocoon Wellness Spa at Hilton Bahrain.
The brand is a well-known medical spa from Bali and it is bringing all its knowledge and technology to treat skin conditions, focused on anti-ageing therapies, to Bahrain.
The treatments offer complexion rejuvenation, lifting and firming. They combine advanced techniques to safely target different layers of the skin. The brand uses radio frequency and LED red light technologies to create change and improvement at the cellular level. However, if you prefer an instant glow without machines, you can opt for their curated holistic facials to smooth and hydrate. The brand also offers a whole range of products for the body and face to continue the treatment at home to maintain the results.
The OHLALA team was invited to try some of the therapies and I was the lucky girl to get a pampering spa day. Hilton Bahrain is located in Juffair and is easy to access; the views of the water are magnificent. The spa area is on the sixth floor and the reception is inviting with a modern sofa and chandelier in tones of gold, sand and blue. The lovely spa manager, Ercie, was there to welcome me into this relaxing retreat. She explained the concept behind Cocoon Wellness Spa, introducing me to the exciting treatments offered.
My therapist for the day, Kryz, escorted me to the treatment room, a cosy space equipped with machines for the body and face. The nice smell was subtle and I really enjoyed the fact that there was no music playing. I know it might sound like a tiny detail, but entering a calm room with a pleasant smell and pure silence was perfect. Inside the room, there was a shower area and a place to leave my clothes and belongings. Kryz gave me a fluffy robe and asked me to get changed. She then explained that I was going to be indulged with the Signature Gold Massage, which involves a body massage and facial treatment. We started with the body. I laid down on the warm bed and Kryz gently cleaned my feet with a hot towel. I understood at that moment that it was going to be an amazing time and that I needed it more than I knew. I have cold feet (my feet are always freezing for some reason) and the warm sensation was comforting. She then started the massage. The Cocoon body massage is based on Balinese techniques, and it works with pressure points that help your body fully relax and improve circulation. I could feel immediately that my body was pleased to receive such care. The end of the month is always busy with deadlines approaching, and tension follows me during this period. Kryz noticed that I needed extra help with my knots and added some stretching into the process. I truly appreciate when the therapists give a personalised touch, catering to each client’s needs. After the whole-body massage and the fact that Kryz removed all the figurative extra weight I was carrying (it did feel like she removed a massive weight from my back that I didn’t even notice piling up there), we moved on to the facial treatment. She began by cleansing my complexion,
then applied oil and gave me a lymphatic massage to activate the muscles and improve circulation. The next step was exfoliation and time to use the Smart Ice Blue Hydra Facial machine. She started with the ionic spray pen that makes the hyaluronic acid penetrate deeper with the help of water, also hydrating the skin. She then used the highfrequency shovel knife to remove dead skin and blackheads (she gave extra attention to my nose area, the result was impressive!). It was time for toner and a mask. While the mask was acting, she gave me a wonderful head massage. The treatment was finalised with serum and cream using the ultrasonic probe for fast absorption. Kryz gave me a mirror and the difference in my skin texture was very noticeable. My skin was also glowing and not looking tired and dull as when I entered the room. Thank you, Cocoon, for the treatments, and Kryz, for your magical hands!
I left the spa with some products to maintain the fantastic results the therapy has given to my complexion. But it was not time to say bye just yet. Ercie invited me to try the Deluxe manicure and pedicure at the Cocoon salon area on the seventh floor. Bandana, the nail specialist, took me to the clean and bright space. I sat in a big, comfortable chair with a special pedicure bowl attached, and she started with my feet – cleaning, massaging, filing and cuticle care.
Meanwhile, Elsie joined us to take care of my manicure. Both ladies gave me extra foot and hand massages; it was just the cherry on top! My feet were in bad shape and Bandana managed to make them soft. We chose a pinkish nail polish that matched well with my skin tone. It was then time to say goodbye to the professional and marvellous team at Cocoon Wellness Spa.
Self-care is sometimes undervalued and I frequently postpone or put it last on my list of priorities. However, this spa day taught me that I should care more for myself. I will come back!

IT’S TIME TO MOVE!
Regular physical activity is important in everyone’s life; it improves muscle strength and boosts energy. OHLALA’s editor went for a workout morning at Dessange Paris Bahrain.
Boutique
One of my New Year’s resolutions for 2022 was to exercise more. I can say that I have been failing really badly at it, so I got excited when my monthly visit to Dessange involved movement. I was invited to use the health club’s fantastic gym.
I guess that when you have a place where you feel comfortable with a good vibe and an exceptional shower area, exercising sounds more compelling. At least for me, I am not a gym person, but I do love the feeling that exercising gives me.
I arrived at Dessange and went straight to the comfortable changing area with the key for my own locker filled with all the necessary items for post-workout, such as a shower cap, robe, towel, slippers and more. I then headed upstairs to the top floor in the Dessange villa, where the expansive health club is located. The gym area is well-lit, with big windows that allow you to see life continuing outside. It has many machines and I felt quite overwhelmed because I didn’t know how to use most of them. But I didn’t have to worry. Manahel, a senior supervisor and trainer, was there that morning and attentively helped me with my training.
She told me to start with some cardio. I opted for the treadmill which was sturdy and quiet, a massive improvement on my small and shaky one at home. The machine has a big screen where you choose the scenery to watch while walking or running. The choices are the hills of Bali, the Australian Outback, Central Park in NYC, Niagara Falls, the Falmouth Road Race in Cape Cod (United States) or the National Mall park in Washington, also in the United States. I wanted some untouched nature, so I opted for the hills in Bali. I started exercising with a walk and, after a while, increased the speed and jogged. I did 30 minutes of cardio just because I love running, I don’t do it as often as I would like, but I love the feeling of moving my body forward.
It was good to sweat – I was glad I grabbed a small towel when I entered the gym. If you don’t like the treadmill, there are other types of cardio equipment, such as the exercise bike, rowing machine or elliptical trainer. I stretched a bit, and Manahel gently helped me to move to other devices. She proposed circuit training for a full-body workout.
We started with the abductor machines to work out my outer and inner thigh muscles, which include the gluteus medius and minimus. The two pieces of equipment are next to each other; in one, you open your legs, and in the other, you have to put strength to close them. I selected a light weight on both as it’s been a while since I’ve worked with weights.
Boutique
I then moved onto my back muscles in the low row back machine that involves the lower back and the love handle area. My legs aren’t strong, but my upper body is even weaker. I rarely do anything to exercise this part and I knew I would be a bit sore the next day. We continued with the upper body and I moved to the lat machine to work more on my back muscles plus triceps and biceps. This machine was very interesting because different muscles were worked depending on where my hands were positioned on the bar.
I performed two sets of 10 movements on each machine and Manahel reminded me of the correct position of my body and proper breathing throughout. When I finished, she gave me some tips on how to exercise at home with simple ideas and showed me how to do them.
I spent around an hour at the gym and was satisfied to start my day with exercise. I then hit the shower, got ready to go to the office, and began my work day. I felt great! Full of energy for a hectic day.
Dessange offers a series of classes that are fun to complement your gym time, there are many options and you will undoubtedly find the perfect one for you. Kick Boxing Boot Camp, Spinning, Body Pump, Fit Dance, Core Strength, Pilates and Yoga are some of them. It’s also the best place if you are looking for a health club with great professionals and a fun environment. And, on top of that, you can leave your workout session and head to the spa or salon for a final self-care journey.

Dream-like Aura
Rami Al Ali’s Bridal Couture Collection 2022 embodies an exquisite vision of beauty and elegance where he displays his skills and creativity. OHLALA spoke to the designer about his brand and creations in an exclusive interview.
The new collection is an encounter between old-school glamour and modern-day sophistication. The whimsical pieces are composed of delicately structured shapes and unmatched detailing. Traditional, princess-style gowns and voluminous full skirts are met with structured bodices. Architectural designs, distinguished against sleek and sensual silhouettes, add an elevated touch of modern femininity synonymous with the fashion house. Signature embroidery and new-season techniques echo the house’s history of craftsmanship. Prominent abstract 3D beadwork continues to play an integral role in the brand’s visual identity, and the modernisation of such classical artistries allows for a simplistic and intricate result. The Rami Al Ali woman can express herself and be the bride of her dreams.
OHLALA - You studied Visual Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus, Syria, and could have gone in many different directions. Why fashion?
Rami Al Ali - I have always been mesmerised by the concept of appearance and its effect on us and others. Fashion is one of the oldest communication tools and it has so much power and eternal relevance that it made me always intrigued and interested. Studying design in general for four years at the fine art university gave me much more clarity that fashion design is exactly what I love and what I’m good at.
OHLALA - What are your favourite clothing pieces to design and why?
Rami - I don’t think I have a favourite one; every piece has its own charm. While I am working on creating a new item, it begins to have a character that blossoms and blooms during the design process. They all have different flavours and bring different experiences.
OHLALA - What is the main difference in your creative process when designing your bridal collections? Is there a specific line of thought that you follow?
Rami - It is more or less the same process for all lines. It starts with creating a mood board, a theme to guide the universe of the collection, respecting our DNA and the brand’s aesthetic. I always collect the needed references and start the silhouettes and embroidery sampling. Then it’s the colour palette and fabric suitable to achieve those silhouettes. Experimenting in the process with new shapes and structures, evolving and mastering techniques we started a few seasons ago. I ensure that my creations’ relevance and modernity are based on consistent market research.
OHLALA - What are the key elements every bride looks for when choosing a dress?
Rami - Every bride looks for uniqueness, exclusivity and the right complementary creation for her wedding look. It needs to show her character and boost her best features – never losing sight of comfort.
OHLALA - What piece of advice would you give to brides-to-be looking for a dress?
Rami - Being yourself is most important. With all the social media apps and information overload, it is easy to lose yourself and get confused. So don’t forget what you like for yourself and not what you like on others.
OHLALA - What is the one thing in your career that you are most proud of after more than 20 years of having your own brand?
Rami - I have to say being self-funded is what I am most proud of. However, it was also the most challenging aspect to achieve.
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
The weather is finally starting to cool down and it is pleasant enough to spend some time outside. So why not give your garden a revamp? We bring the best guide to the task!
OHLALA Homes
THE FIRST STEP
When planning out how to set about reviving your outdoor space, the first step, according to architect Jad Nadim Ghostine of G Design and Build based in Bahrain, is thinking about both the hard and soft landscaping and the general layout of the space: “You would need to first decide on the zoning: the hard landscaping – wood, decking, tiles – and the soft landscaping – natural/artificial grass, plants and flowers.” You would then need to make sure the space has what Jad calls the five essential elements: furniture for seating and dining, shade (tarps, umbrellas, pergola), lighting, landscaping (flowers for smell, colour and beauty, trees for privacy and sun protection, and plants), and entertainment (fire pit, barbecue, pool).
“Having an outdoor space offers a place to getaway without leaving your own home. These areas don’t have to be super elaborate or even cost a lot of money to create. With the right idea, you could be enjoying your own private oasis by the weekend,” says Bre Doucette in her Rooms for Rent blog, where she discusses tablescapes, outdoor décor and patio designs.
TAKE A SEAT
Even though we know cooling weather is coming our way, we still have very strong sunshine that can cause damage to things in the garden, especially chairs. Jad says that “aluminium seating or teak chairs are best to resist harsh weather conditions and changes in temperature from day to night.”
Additionally, many of us use the seating in the garden for casual gatherings as well as dining. For those who don’t have the luxury of space, a good way to combine both, according to Jad, is having “low seating for comfort and slightly higherthan-average coffee tables” so we can enjoy meals without bending our backs. For tapestry, choose fabrics that are “outdoor-resistant and add warmth and colour” to your space, such as “earthy tones that have an organic feel to them and that blend with the surrounding area.”
If you are looking for brands that have this option, Calligaris, an Italian home furnishings company, recently released its Connubia Outdoor Collection with materials that are designed for outdoor use. Items that are easy to care for with quick cleaning, are water-repellent and stain-resistant, as well as UV rays and fabric-fading-resistant.
Homes
LET’S GET COOKING
A favourite activity among all of us is cooking outside; hence, a dedicated space for a barbecue or fire pit is a must and needs to be carefully decided. Jad recommends you think about the following factors: “the direction of the wind for smells and smoke, a hard surface underneath the barbecue or oven for security purposes, proximity to the kitchen for easy access and convenience, access to electricity, drainage and water”. The fire pit can be a prominent part of your décor and an important factor when considering adding one to your garden is the style. Dancing flames help set a cosy atmosphere for entertaining and serve as a decorative element, while some can be used for minimal grilling and outdoor heating. Look for designs that complement your space and furniture. There are four main styles of fire pits to highlight. Fire tables add a beautiful and functional element. These models feature a ledge suitable for resting glasses or plates around the parameters of the flames. Fire pit bowls add a touch of elegance and generate heat during chilly nights. They are typically lightweight units making them easy to move around. Another alternative is the tabletop fire pits and bowls, which create a unique centrepiece, producing ambient light. And last but not least is the chiminea, a freestanding front-loading
fireplace or oven with a bulbous body and usually a vertical smoke vent. They are a striking addition to your patio.
FINISHING TOUCHES
For additional ambience, flowers and accessories act as the cherry on the cake for outdoor design. “Choose bright and luminous colours for accessories and plants that add life to the space,” says Jad.
Bre recommends in her blog that you consider making your space as enjoyable as possible: “The more comfortable the environment is, the longer you will want to stay in it. Don’t forget to bring out some throw pillows, maybe even a throw blanket to keep at arm’s reach for those chilly nights.
“Think about how you will be spending your time in your outdoor space. What things can you add to it that will make the area feel cosier to you? I always like to ensure I have a comfy throw pillow nearby, a small side table to rest my drink on, and a footstool, if possible, to put my feet up.”

DEARLY BELOVED
For those of you wondering where to tie the knot this winter, here is a selection of some of the most unusual and beautiful venues around the world to ensure you have a ceremony to remember.
NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY, USA
This intellectual landmark in the Big Apple is the perfect place for booklovers and old souls to wed. The library’s Stephen A. Schwartzman building is celebrated for its leading research, exceptional historical collections and dedication to providing free access to its resources. The library houses about 15 million items, including priceless medieval manuscripts, ancient Japanese scrolls, and contemporary novels and poetry. The building, which was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965, emanates splendour, with its exterior and interior architecture reflecting the height of the Beaux-Arts style and every delicate detail having been hand-carved by talented artisans of the era. Having a wedding at this iconic venue will lend a sophisticated air of grandeur to your nuptials, with rows and shelves of great literary genius surrounding you.
VILLA SOLA CABIATI, ITALY
This exquisite masterpiece of a location can prove to be the ultimate wedding venue for couples looking for the height of class. With halls bedecked with stuccoes and frescoes by famous artists of the Belle Époque art period, as well as invaluable collections of paintings, tapestries and crockery, this historical manor is one of the most opulent places to say ‘I do’ to the one you love. Once belonging to a family of dukes, the venue is saturated with the atmosphere of Milanese aristocracy, who escaped to summer residences like Villa Sola Cabiati, the epitome of neoclassic style. The Villa is also famed for housing the bed that belonged to Napoleon and his wife, which was saved from bombing in Milan during World War II. Perched on the edge of the beautiful Lake Como, the residence flaunts an elegantly manicured Italian garden, with steps going down to the water, offering a majestic view of the lake.
@villasolacabiatiDOMAINE DES EVIS, FRANCE
This idyllic location serves as the ultimate venue for intimate weddings in the countryside, a quaint barn that lies at the centre of the Perche Regional National Park. Surrounded by a moat, pond and century-old trees, this venue offers tailor-made ceremonies. Previously a fortified farm dating back to the 15th century, its old-fashioned architecture and personalised design, with two pepper towers guarding its gates, will give you the feeling of returning to simpler times. Restorations done in the 20th century lent the main hall its current form, topped with a roof shaped like an upturned ship’s hull. The 180sq/m ballroom, named ‘La Grange sur l’Eau’ or The Barn on the Water, offers a capacity of 180 seated guests and has a glass roof, letting the light pour in.

BRAN CASTLE, ROMANIA
Dracula’s castle might be the most unusual wedding venue globally. Infamous for its eerie tales of Count Dracula in the 1897 gothic horror novel by Bram Stocker, it holds great historical symbolism. It is part of Transylvanian history, Romanian culture and Victorian gothic literature and is perfect for those looking for a touch of mystery and thrill along with elegance for their special day. Built on a towering rock, the castle commands a feeling of awe, with labyrinthine structures and thick stone walls elevating its mightiness. In terms of wedding décor, picture exquisite flower arrangements, old-fashioned candles, elegant glassware and silverware, embroidered napkins and the trill of sopranos in the background.

FINCA CORTESIN HOTEL, SPAIN
Located in the southern city of Malaga on one of the most sought-after Spanish coasts lies Finca Cortesin Hotel, a 532-acre ‘finca’ or ranch built and designed in the classic Andalusian style. This pocket of paradise is for couples who prefer a laid-back, serene, yet luxurious setting. Built around two main courtyards, the hotel includes 67 suites with antique terracotta floors, original carved wooden doors salvaged from ancient European castles, hand-painted wall coverings in soft pastel tones, exquisite furnishings and large windows. Outside the estate lies 23,000sq/m of verdant gardens, swimming pools and tennis courts.
GOVERNORS' CAMP, KENYA
If you’ve ever dreamt of a safari wedding, Governors’ Camp is the place for you. Located in the Masai Mara, Africa’s first permanent luxury camp is surrounded by abundant wildlife, grass plains and aged trees. The destination was set up in the 1970s to create a traditional tented camp experience. It houses spacious canvas tents, individual stone cottages and farmhouses. Whether you choose the ceremony to take place in the camp or by the Mara River, you will be escorted in a private decorated vehicle and be greeted by a troupe of Masai dancers. Couples also get to enjoy a private candlelit dinner on the veranda of their tent as well as breakfast in the bush of the Masai Mara. Additionally, they will be given a chance to plant an indigenous tree in celebration of their nuptials, a perfect finish.

A HEARTY FEAST
An ovation to Mediterranean cuisine with complex cooking methods and sophisticated ingredients is what Liz O’Reilly discovered at Bagatelle Bahrain. She also enjoyed the party atmosphere offered at this unique eatery.
Eats
With its French-New York roots, Bagatelle aims to bring a feel of the Riviera to all its venues. The menu, designed by Chef Rocco Seminara, is made for sharing and is the same worldwide, with a guarantee of the same quality wherever you try the famous dishes.
Interiors are blue, white and gold – offering a refined but casual feel. Plush turquoise velvet seating, in sofas and chairs, is very comfortable – which is just as well since you’ll want to stay all night long.
The floors are wooden and ambient lighting does dual duty to provide an intimate dining atmosphere early in the evening and then changes shade and intensity as the restaurant transforms into the ultimate party spot at 11pm, with the staff marking the transition with a mini show that is totally unexpected but a whole lot of fun – think great music and dancing on the tables.
While dining, table service is hugely important in creating a show, from the pouring of dressings and sauces to the deboning of the whole sea bass or carving of the salt-crusted chicken right at the table. Each staff member has to be able to pull off these tricks of the trade, at speed.
There are two menus, one for lunch and another for dinner. We were served a tasting selection of signature dishes from each.
We began with Bagatelle salad – mixed leaves tossed at the table in a large wooden bowl which, to be honest, I would usually avoid. However, the simple dressing of vinaigrette with Dijon mustard, made it extremely palatable and I wolfed it down.
CHIC Eats
Next came Tomato and Burrata salad. Small, sweet tomatoes, creamy, oozy burrata with a savoury lemon basil dressing that pulled the flavours together and was the perfect foil to the sweetness of the glistening red fruits. Barbajuan fried ravioli stuffed with pumpkin, parmesan, ricotta and hazelnuts was really surprising and tasty. The unexpected texture was satisfyingly crunchy and the quite strong flavours merged well.
For me, one of several stand-out dishes was Parmigiana D’Aubergines Crème de Parmesan – it’s like a hug in a bowl. Rolled slices of eggplant are stuffed with parmesan mixed with tomato sauce, mozzarella and herbs and served in parmesan cream. Cheesy, perfectly rendered and overall delicious. Moving on to raw fish, hand-diced tuna tartare came with the perfect accompaniment of lightly roasted guacamole and radish shavings. Aji Amarillo pepper and a dusting of citrus powder, including orange, gave a delightfully sweet piquancy to the tender tuna. Seafood ceviche with sea bream, lemon, lime, coconut milk and passion fruit made for another one of those delightful palate-pleasing surprises. If you’re going to try either of these dishes, make sure you are really paying attention, the flavour combinations are interesting, unexpected but remarkably successful. A simple tomato and pasta dish, Linguine Aux Tomates Cerises, Stracciatella Au Basilic featured Italian-produced pasta baked in Puglian tomato sauce made with onions, olive oil, garlic and fresh herbs, topped with Stracciatella, basil and olive oil. The flavours of the sauce with the light, sweet cheesiness of the Stracciatella were absolutely perfect and I had to stop myself from going back for seconds.
Next up came Lobster Fettucine – pasta bound in the juice of the lobster with butter, Espelette chilli and lime zest. The flesh was super sweet and there was no battle to get it out of the shell – something which can be a bit off-putting. Plin au Castelmagno, Truffe de Saison. This is another absolute stand-out dish on which everyone at our table agreed. The semi-hard Castelmagno Italian cheese fills Plin pasta from the Piedmont region, which floats in a sauce made with melanosporum truffle served with grated seasonal truffle. Simple, yet totally indulgent, I honestly believe our party could all have gone home happy at this stage. But, of course, there was more to come.
A whole sea bass cooked in a jus of tomato, lemon, white grape, butter and lemon leaves was deboned in a show at the table. Served with caramelised red onion and chopped lemon, orange, grapefruit and jewel-bright pomegranate, the fish was buttery and smooth in texture with a lightly piquant flavour perfectly complemented by the accompanying aromatics and house-special mashed potato with its secret ingredient of brown butter. Next came a bit of a mouthful, Poulet Entier Fermier à L’estragon, En Croute de Sel aux Aromates – a whole chicken in a salt crust, the crust made all the more impressive with the addition of flour to fully encase the bird. This method of cooking, aside from adding visual interest, aims to ensure that the flesh remains moist and flavourful and it did not disappoint. Again, the crust is removed and the chicken carved at the tableside, which makes for a great show and demonstrates the training of the staff. No visit to Bagatelle would be complete without trying the signature dish – Pizza La Truffe de Saison – seasonal truffle pizza with extra black truffle. The dough is really something else and unlike any I have tasted before. Made with organically-farmed mixed flour that includes sesame, rye, oats, barley and more, it is refrigerated for 48 to 72 hours, then brought back to room temperature and hand spread with durum wheat semolina before baking. The result is a really interesting flavour and texture combination that almost dares the taste buds to identify the different components. Then there’s the topping – I did honestly say “this is actually not a pizza” since, aside from its shape, it bears little resemblance to the pies we are used to. The cheese is fior di latte – made with the highest quality cow’s milk and cooked to a perfect chewy consistency. It’s topped with daubs of foam made from mascarpone truffle bechamel and grated truffle slices. This is probably the most luxurious pizza I have ever eaten – and I’ve eaten a lot – but it, once again, fits perfectly with Bagatelle’s sharing concept. It’s so rich that you wouldn’t want more than one slice, but that slice will forever be the one other pizzas must live up to.
Stuffed to the gills, we took a little time out to appreciate the surroundings and some great mocktails before tucking into the desserts. My idea of heaven was the Tropezienne Al La Vanille – a delicately light brioche pastry filled with sweetened cream. Soft, yielding and almost like eating sweet, fluffy air, I had to stop myself from devouring the whole thing so I would have room to at least try the international-award-winning chocolate pizza. The dough is the same as its savoury counterpart, but even thinner and with a crispiness to the base, and the topping is every sin you could imagine – a milk chocolate disc, hazelnut cream, dark chocolate cream, light vanilla cream, hazelnut praline, roasted hazelnuts and more. Oh my gosh! That is all.

THE NEW ROLLS-ROYCE GHOST
THERE ARE LUXURY CARS AND THEN THERE IS ROLLS-ROYCE. THIS MONTH, OHLALA EXPERIENCED THE EPITOME OF REFINEMENT AND CLASS IN THE 2022 ROLLS-ROYCE GHOST.
Drives
The Rolls-Royce Ghost is the brand’s most commercially successful product in its 116-year history. This overwhelming success allowed the brand to heavily invest their time, money and resources into establishing Rolls-Royce as a truly global brand.
The first Ghost model was produced in 2009 and, since then, the design, craftsmanship and engineering have been further refined to result in the supreme machine we see today.
Recently, Rolls-Royce unveiled the 2022 Ghost, a model that has received praise from career critics and enthusiasts alike. OHLALA was fortunate enough to receive the opportunity to thoroughly inspect as well as to testdrive the latest generation Ghost, compliments of the exceptional team at Rolls-Royce Bahrain.
EXTERIOR
The moment the new Ghost came into view, we needed a few minutes of silence to fully comprehend the craftsmanship that stood before us. Over the years, OHLALA magazine has had the privilege of inspecting many a fine vehicle, however, the class exuded by the Ghost outshone anything we had previously encountered.
It’s easy to see that the Ghost has been a labour of love for the brand – a car that has evolved through their constant appreciation of modern luxury coupled with traditional class.
The front of this full-sized luxury saloon is framed by sharp bow lines that intersect with an angular light signature, creating an assertive yet aesthetically pleasing front end. Additionally, the Ghost has been designed with a celestial element to its character, with 20 LEDs underneath the top of the pantheon grille gently illuminating the vehicle’s vanes.
The minimalistic approach taken by the Rolls-Royce design team in their quest to obtain uncluttered perfection, led them to hand-welding the aluminium body structure. The result is the main structure of the car appearing as one fluid canvas, an effect we have never previously seen accomplished in this precise manner. The Spirit of Extasy emblem holds its position at the front and centre of the car’s bonnet, above the coveted Rolls-Royce badge, her forward posture inciting us to get behind the wheel and out onto the open road.
“The class exuded by the Ghost outshone anything we had previously encountered.”
Drives
At the flanks, a single straight stroke emphasises the Ghost’s considerable length, whilst the lower ‘waft line’ uses reflection to lighten the surface of the car. The back doors of the Ghost are rear-hinged, with the windows of both the front and back self-closing doors sharing equal proportions. This design element clearly reveals an achievement of balance between the Ghost being both a driver-orientated and a chauffeur-driven vehicle. The dynamic intent of the car is further revealed by the subtle arch of the roofline, along with the 21-inch wheels, complete with centre caps that do not move when the car is travelling, ensuring the Rolls-Royce logo always remains upright.
The exterior of the new Ghost is rendered as one clean, expansive piece that flows seamlessly from the A-pillar, over the roof and to the tapered back end, where it culminates in an understated, near square light graphic – a standard element of contemporary Rolls-Royce design.
INTERIOR
The uber-skilled craftspeople at Rolls-Royce applied their minimalistic design approach to the interior, an environment we could easily inhabit on a daily basis. Only the very best materials have been used throughout the vehicle, including the finest wood, leather and metals money can buy. The perfect stitchwork of the upholstery and leather finishes has been meticulously executed, creating incredibly long and perfectly straight lines of sheer mastery. Additionally, the Dark Amber finish of our Ghost model integrated fine veins of aluminium particles into the dark wood, adding yet another touch of magic to an already enchanting internal setting.
Further contributing toward the entrancing nature of the Ghost’s interior is the Illuminated Fascia – a world-first innovation that subtly echoes the Starlight Headliner already fitted in previous models. This remarkable design piece brings an ethereal glowing Ghost nameplate, surrounded by more than 850 stars, into the interior suite of the car. A truly remarkable innovation.
Rolls-Royce have not only considered our safety when designing the 2022 Ghost, but our health as well – with the latest models including a new Micro-Environment Purification System (MEPS). Highly sensitive Impurity Detection Sensors constantly monitor the exterior environment’s air quality and automatically switch from fresh air intakes to Recirculation Mode if unacceptable levels of airborne contaminants are detected. Air is then channelled through a nano-fleece filter, that removes almost all ultrafine particles from the interior in less than two minutes.
Our final observation of the interior involves the serenity of the Ghost’s cabin. Rolls-Royce have used over 100kg of acoustic damping material along with interior components that are tuned to a specific resonant frequency to create the most peaceful setting possible. Alternatively, you can opt for a livelier environment through the use of the 18-speaker bespoke sound system that reveals Rolls-Royce’s dedication to achieving acoustic perfection.
INFOTAINMENT & CONNECTIVITY
The 2022 Ghost houses a 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen that runs on BMW’s iDrive system – not a surprise as the German brand in fact owns Rolls-Royce. This system is perfect in its simplicity and is as userfriendly as they come.
It offers compatibility and wireless connection with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Included also are 12.5 gigs of internal storage space, a 12-month subscription to Sirius XM, integrated navigation with voice activation and real time traffic information.
Drives
An optional theatre configuration is available which adds dual 12-inch displays to the rear of the vehicle, allowing passengers to partake in their favourite programmes whilst on the move.
POWER & PERFORMANCE
We simply could not wait to drive and to be driven in the new Ghost, and we admit to giggling like school children when the ignition was engaged. The sound and feeling of the 6.75-litre, twin-turbocharged V12 was enough to give us goosebumps and is exactly what we expected from a Rolls. This beast of an engine is coupled with an eight-speed transmission and delivers 563bhp and 850Nm of torque to the all-wheel drive and allwheel steering setup. This translates to a 0 - 100km time of five seconds flat and an electronically capped top speed of 250km/h. Add the Planar Suspension System to the equation and we experienced why it is referred to as the marque’s ‘Magic Carpet Ride’. This system is the result of 10 collective years of testing and development to create a sense of flight on land – a feat never before achieved by a motor car. And it works! We hardly felt a bump in the road throughout our extended journey. In fact, we have never experienced a more responsive and smooth driving experience in all of our years of test driving.
The first-class braking system was more than up to the task of taming the abundance of power on offer and we effortlessly negotiated every twist and turn laid before us, along with the busy city streets - where we received our fair share of both envious stares and awestruck expressions.
SAFETY & ASSISTANCE
The 2022 Ghost is the most technologically advanced motor car Rolls-Royce has ever produced. This is proven through features such as the LED and laser headlights that offer more than 600m of illuminated range, ensuring great night-time visibility. Additional safety and assistance systems include vision assist; day- and night-time pedestrian and wildlife warning; active cruise control; alertness assist; a four-camera system with panoramic view; all-round visibility and helicopter view; collision warning; lane departure and lane changing warning, along with cross-traffic warning.
Additionally, we found the industry-leading 7x3 high-resolution headup display to be the very best we have ever experienced. Wi-Fi hotspot; self-park; and the very latest navigation systems have also been included in the 2022 Ghost.
OUR VERDICT
It’s a Rolls-Royce.
For more information or to book a luxury test drive of your own, please call Rolls-Royce Bahrain on 1775 4754.

Ohlala
The Bells are Ringing
The wedding day is usually a hectic one. Even when you plan every detail, some things might slip your mind. Miss Ohlala highlights what couples typically forget.
Your marriage ceremony is an important event to you, your family and your friends. Even if you are having a small gathering, the feeling that you might be forgetting something crucial will afflict you. Here is a list of things to remember:
- Have a plan B regarding the weather. No matter if you live in the Middle East, where a sunny day is almost guaranteed, you should be prepared for a change. Maybe it will be unusually hot that day, or it might rain. Prepare a strategy if the weather plays a trick and tries to disrupt your celebration.
- Have a sewing kit in your first aid bag. You never know if you or any of your guests will have some sort of clothing malfunction.
- Don’t forget to eat. Most couples get so overwhelmed by the function that they forget to consume the food they carefully selected a few months ago. Even set an alarm if necessary to ensure you will take the time to eat.
- Make sure you have your phone charger with you. It might be a long day, and you will need to communicate with people, so having your charger with you will be paramount.
- Be present. Time will pass by so quickly, it is essential to take deep breaths throughout the day to take it all in and create the best memories.
