This month, we bring exciting partnerships, a unique new product, and a helping hand initiative – a round-up of interesting news from the worlds of fashion and beauty.
Modest Style
The Somali American model Halima Aden has become a global ambassador for the modest fashion portal modanisa.com. The fashion retailer has signed an exclusive twoyear partnership with Halima to lend her face, name and creativity while designing two new collections. Halima said about her new position: "I'm so excited to be working with Modanisa. They have been an ever-present in my career, my first modest fashion catwalk, my first collection, and now my first global fashion role. They share my faith and values and fully respect my choices as a Muslim woman. I'm coming home." The brand believes that, like its customers, Halima is proud of her Muslim heritage and seeks a harmonious blend between Islamic traditions and modernity.

The fabrics used are embroidered at Hamda's atelier and sent to Tyler's factory in Italy. "We are thrilled to celebrate the collaboration of two women from different cultures joining forces to create unique works of art, both female-owned brands focus on craftsmanship, true luxury, and ageless designs," says Tyler. OHLALA ICYMI What Moves You?
The Montblanc 'What Moves You, Makes You' campaign was launched last year to inspire people to express their full potential by doing what truly moves them rather than following a more conventional path to success. It tells the extraordinary stories of 'Mark Makers', individuals living their life doing what excites them and leaving their mark along the way. After spotlighting the journeys of award-winning director Spike Lee and actor Taron Egerton, the brand brings two new Mark Makers: Irish-born actor Cillian Murphy and South Korean DJ Peggy Gou. "Cillian and Peggy are inspiring individuals who embody the ethos of Montblanc. They are both living proof that when you do what inspires you with audacity and creativity, you lead a more fulfilling life," says Vincent Montalescot, Montblanc EVP Marketing.
Cycling Mood
The German brand MCM is launching its first 3D-printed luxury e-bike in the AW2021 M'ETAVERSE collection. They are made in partnership with Urwahn Bikes, with only 50 units available worldwide. This category expansion is a step forward for the MCM lifestyle, toward a place where wellness and sustainability exist in natural harmony with freedom and empowerment. It celebrates MCM's 45-year heritage in mobility while reflecting customers' desire to live more conscious lifestyles. Each bike is precision-engineered from steel, which offers unparalleled performance while being easier to service and recycle than aluminium and carbon. The MCM x Urwahn e-bike features a 3D-printed steel frame with the MCM logo emblazoned upon the bike's custom brass front plate and Brooks Cambium grips, while a reflective logo hit can be found inside the bike's custom rims.

Happy Sport is Chopard’s casual yet sophisticated timepiece that has been launched in an ideal size inspired by nature to best suit a woman’s wrist. 34

C
DORRA ZARROUK
hopard’s iconic Happy Sport watch is now appearing in an optimally comfortable 33mm diameter case inspired by the golden ratio principle of aesthetic harmony. Pursuing its commitment to a constant quest for balance, Chopard is endowing its icon in this daintier size. Since antiquity, this mathematical balance has been found in science as well as in art and architecture, reproducing the harmony prevailing in nature. A sense of proportion is of paramount importance to the maison. Designed to accompany women in all their day-to-day activities, the Happy Sport is a watch that must feel pleasant to wear, like a second skin, in every situation. This quest for the ideal timepiece has now been achieved by using the golden ratio. Seven new references are joining the collection in various models: four two-tone featuring a Lucent Steel A223 case embellished with ethical 18-carat rose gold, and three entirely crafted from ethical 18-carat rose gold, available on a leather strap or metal bracelet. An eighth version is also available in ethical 18-carat white gold, completely set with diamonds. They all beat to the rhythm of the Chopard Manufacture 09.01-C movement with automatic winding, and each dial is graced with the legendary dancing diamonds. Stemming from four years of research and development, Lucent Steel A223 is an anti-allergenic alloy that is brighter and sturdier than ordinary steel. It also testifies to Chopard’s commitment to sustainable luxury. The Lucent Steel A223 is 70% made from recycled materials in a state-of-the-art workshop located in Austria, limiting the carbon footprint related to shipping materials to Chopard’s Swiss workshops. Happy Sport models epitomise the noble legacy of casual-chic style with five freedom-loving dancing diamonds set between the two sapphire crystals topping the dial. Invented by Chopard in 1976, the dancing diamonds adorning the Happy Sport watch collection have revolutionised women’s relationship with time. They no longer simply read the time but instead contemplate the ever-changing choreography of the diamonds whirling around the watch.
The Tunisian actress Dorra Zarrouk has joined the Chopard family as one of the faces of the Happy Diamonds campaign. “When someone is wearing a Chopard piece, one feels particularly chic. What I like the most about it is that while this watch is very elegant and luxurious, it is not only suited to big events, but I can also pair it with my daily outfits. Most of all, it is timeless: I feel like a mother could pass on her Chopard watch to her daughter or her granddaughter, and it will never date,” says Dorra. Chopard collections are available at Chopard Boutique, Moda Mall. For more information, please call 1752 0088. @chopard @bahrainjewellerycentre www.ohlala-magazine.com

iamonds are said to be a girl’s best friend, and there are certainly never too many. Tiffany & Co. has announced a new addition to its diamond watch portfolio, Tiffany Eternity. A sparkly and precious timekeeper to make sure you are present and appreciating every minute. Each hour marker has 12 different diamond shapes: round brilliant, baguette, cushion, Tiffany True, marquise, Asscher, heart, pear, oval, emerald, triangle and princess. This display of mixed-cut diamonds is inspired by a series of vintage Tiffany & Co. advertisements from the 1960s and ‘70s. The Tiffany Setting engagement ring inspires the watch’s crown. Adopting the classic six-prong setting, the diamond crown complements the halo of stones that encircle the case. From constructing the case to setting each sparkly gem by hand, Tiffany’s artisans in Switzerland spend over 13 hours crafting each watch. The eye-catching piece is available in 28mm and 32mm iterations and 18-carat rose or white gold. It is water-resistant with an atmospheric pressure tolerance of three atm and is powered by a quartz movement. Each Swiss-made Tiffany Eternity watch comes with both a black grosgrain strap and a black alligator strap. Embellish your wrist with a timepiece that not only shines like a diamond but is encrusted with them.

A Gem
Love Affair Bold in colour with astonishing designs, the Jewelled Vault is home to Garrard's most striking, unique and unusual gemstones. 38
www.ohlala-magazine.com
new, breathtaking collection, with no two stones and no two designs the same, the Jewelled Vault creation from Garrard is a one-of-a-kind work of art. The jewels honour the innate character and unique qualities of the world's most exceptional gems, such as the Royal Blue and Padparadscha sapphires, Colombian emeralds, Pigeon's Blood rubies, and other rarities. Each of them is selected for their beauty and uniqueness. The Jewelled Vault takes inspiration from Maria Alexandrovna, the Duchess of Edinburg, whose love for the best and most beautiful gemstones was legendary. She travelled from Russia to England to marry Queen Victoria's second son, Prince Alfred, in 1874. With her, she brought an incredible collection of jewels, which grew as she commissioned new designs from Garrard. The jewels were kept in a magnificent vault at the royal residence, Clarence House, and were arranged by colour, creating a vivid palette of gemstones. This vault continues to inspire Garrard's Creative Director, Sara Prentice.
"The design concept is unique. The stones are the stars, and we only begin designing a Jewelled Vault piece when our gemmologists have discovered an outstanding new gem," says Sara. Many of Garrard's most famous royal jewels feature rare and exceptionally fine sapphires, from Queen Victoria's sapphire cluster brooch to Princess Diana's engagement ring. A five-carat sapphire and diamond Jewelled Vault ring pays homage to this legacy and echoes these iconic designs. Moving to rubies, only stellar stones that display the highly prized shade of Pigeon's Blood are selected for the Jewelled Vault – opulent, 'redder than red' gems that are vanishingly rare in the world of gemstones. Garrard also celebrates the rarefied beauty of Colombian emeralds in designs that channel light through the centre stones, illuminating their vivid green colour. Modern masterpieces designed to celebrate nature's greatest miracles, Garrard's creative flair and coloured stone expertise, converge in the Jewelled Vault.

ELEGANT
FELINE Maison Boucheron is adding newpieces to its Animaux de Collection with fresh interpretations of the Wladimir, the cat, designs.
40
www.ohlala-magazine.com
N
ature has been an inspiration to Boucheron since its foundation in 1866. Hedgehogs, snakes, does, chickadees and hummingbirds have been portrayed throughout the years – a procession of animals that have come to life in the hands of skilled craftsmen. From know-how capable of chiselling, polishing and paving with precision, each animal modelled in volume seems more real than life. The Animaux de Collection is expanding and is inspired by Wladimir, the maison's emblematic feline, the cat that entered the 'Paris, Vu du 26' High Jewellery collection in 2019. This season, the line is taking liberties and awakening the fashionista in those who adopt it. With intense sapphire eyes, a diamond-set coat in relief and iridescent fur, each hand-sculpted piece displays a wealth of techniques. The cat collection goes beyond the jewel and becomes a totem, a lucky charm. Whether it is strength or pleasure, sweetness or power, the jewellery pieces allow each woman to find her individuality in these intricate items, to free her temperament and assert her style. Boucheron's ambassador, Alexa Chung, interprets these feline new creations with style and freedom, defining her own codes and assuming her independence – just like cats. The pendants bring a white-gold or yellow cat with diamonds hanging from a yellow-gold or white-gold chain, with erect ears and shimmering fur. Its vivid gaze of green agates and tsavorites and irises in black sapphire, displays exquisite feline confidence. The necklace is set in the centre with a pear-cut diamond. The rings come in yellow-gold or white-gold. Made with round diamonds with a delicate sculpted nose, sapphire-black eyes, and silky fur, its neck is ringed with eight round tsavorites and one pear-cut tsavorite. The ring envelops the finger in a shiver of sculpted light and shadow. Another design joins the ring sets; two white-gold cats paved with diamonds surround a 12-carat cushion-cut blue tanzanite. Hand-carved with an adorable white-gold muzzle paved with round diamonds, a deep countenance set with sapphires and a chest adorned with sapphires, each feline appears more realistic than the other. They're just like two precious sentinels. A necklace with a double row of cultured pearls tied with a diamondpaved jewelled clasp, forming a spectacular choker with a detachable feline brooch pendant completes the collection. The clasp is made in white gold and entirely paved with diamonds. The cat brooch is made with sapphire eyes and sports a sparkling neck ring of blue tanzanite. A piece that testifies to the mastery of the Boucheron High Jewellery workshops.

Effortless Beauty CHANEL’s new autumn and winter make-up collection 2021 brings an easy to mix and match colour collection to paint your chilly days in sophisticated hues.
T
he cold season asks for a different palette than bright summery shades; our wardrobes and beauty choices take on a different tonality during these months. The CHANEL Makeup Creation Studio helps you tune into the new season with its new autumn and winter 2021 collection, Tone on Tone, with a daring and narrowly focused colour scheme. The products in this new line find the perfect balance in harmonious hues. The collection revolves around four shades — warm grey, khaki, terracotta, and reddish-brown. The colours are designed to be worn from the eyes to your fingertips. Each colour harmony is as unique as it is timeless, but they all serve the same purpose: to enhance your eyes to make them the centre of your face. The eyeshadows have a metallic shimmer to illuminate
the eye area and create a contrast with the matte finishes on the rest of the face. Each of the four colour schemes comprises three products. Dress up the eyes using the STYLO OMBRE ET CONTOUR and OMBRE PREMIÈRE LAQUE duo. For enhanced coordination and intensity, match your nails to your eye make-up look with LE VERNIS. Rounding out the colour harmonies are the complementary products, developed by the CHANEL Makeup Creation Studio to suit every skin tone. Two new shades of ROUGE ALLURE VELVET represent the collection perfectly: Low Key, a peachy dusty rose, and Mode, an assertive brick red. As the finishing touch, JOUES CONTRASTE in the shade Ombre gives the face structure and a healthy-looking glow.

LINGER
Carolina Herrera continues to explore the theme of contemporary femininity with its new fragrance, Very Good Girl. A sumptuous and surprising eau de parfum. ery Good Girl is the new olfactory experience by Carolina Herrera that takes an unexpected turn. While the other fragrances in the Good Girl family explored the subversive power of jasmine and tonka bean, this new eau de parfum draws its strength from the potency of the rose. Very Good Girl is a fruity floral fragrance, and its aromatic journey starts with currant. This mischievous wild berry is joined by the exotic lychee in the unity of confidence. Rose is one of the most important raw ingredients in the history of perfumery, and it has seen countless interpretations. All involving a seductive trail. Its unique scent is an ace up any sleeve, which is precisely what perfumers Quentin Bisch and Louise Turner capitalised on for this
new chapter in the Good Girl universe. The final burst in Very Good Girl is a veiled background of vetiver, the raw form of which evokes the smell of wood and is often used in men’s perfumery. It provides a surprising and contemporary counterpoint that, in this new fragrance, creates an alliance with the warmth of vanilla. It’s impossible to discuss Good Girl without alluding to the impossibly high stiletto bottle, the irresistible shape of which has made it into an object of desire since its launch in 2016. With Very Good Girl, this modern emblem has acquired a unique finish with a red-lacquered interior, the characteristic colour of the House of Carolina Herrera that also defines its fashion, accessory, and make-up collections.

YSL Beauty is launching a new product, The Slim Velvet Radical, a subversive semi-matte lipstick that does not compromise on comfort.
T
he iconic matte lipstick The Slim from YSL has a new family member, The Slim Velvet Radical. The new lipstick comes in 12 new shades in a palette of nudes, oranges, reds and fuchsia and a cuttingedge formula that prioritises comfort. The latest beauty tool speaks to the woman in love with matte, who also wants the textural effect of velvet. The lipstick is inspired by YSL fashion couture and its love for the iconic velvet fabric. Timeless. Enveloping. Vivid. With an opacity that cloaks the body entirely, yet a malleability that is soft and comfortable, velvet bridges the line between subversive and sophisticated. Influenced by this soft textile, The Slim Velvet Radical brings colours that stay true and feels light as air. Created with comfort as the number one priority, it uses the latest technological breakthroughs in the field. Each element of the formulation was chosen by YSL Beauty’s labs with the utmost precision. Hemispherical fillers give the semi-matte effect of velvet; these help the lipstick to feel soft on the lips. Silky oils have been used for moisturisation and to provide easy application. These were increased to guarantee lightweight texture and give a luscious feel to the lips. As a result, the new lipstick won’t dry out the lips but instead leave them feeling supple and soft all day long. The pigmentation levels were optimised to the max for an impactful colour coverage in just one stroke. The square-cut bullet design is as practical as it is stylish, enabling the user to draw a square shape at the Cupid’s bow first, making it easier to fill in the colour. With a sharp lip line in place, the intensely pigmented lip shades stay longer, accentuating the natural curve of the lips, delivering a more volumising effect and a plumper, fuller look.

Midsummer
Dream Carefree memories are yours to create as sun-drenched days fade into starlit nights with Bath & Body Works’ new fragrance.
S
ummer days and nights are the ones where we build unforgettable memories and take them with us for the rest of the year and, most of the time, for life. These memories stay with us even longer when combined with an aroma. The smells go straight to the brain’s smell centre, where the olfactory bulb is connected with the amygdala and hippocampus, which explains why the scent of something can immediately trigger a detailed memory or emotion. Bath & Body Works, one of the world’s leading speciality retailers of fashion fragrances for your body and your home, has a selection of memorable scents. Midsummer Dream is their latest creation composed of a dreamy blend of salted pear, fresh nectarine and seaside lily. This transportive, fruity fragrance was made to go with you on strolls along the beach, evenings by the fire pit and every adventure in between. The eau de parfum comes in two sizes, full and mini, with a higher concentration of fragrance oils for a longer-lasting scent. However, if you want just a splash or to lightly spritz, the Fine Fragrance Mist is your best pick. The Super Smooth Body Lotion provides 24 hours of nourishing moisture. Infused with shea butter, coconut oil and vitamin E, it absorbs quickly into the skin. While the Ultimate Hydration Body Cream, made with shea butter, now comes with hyaluronic acid for a richer texture that leaves your skin feeling soft, smooth and replenished. The Shower Gel combines nourishing vitamin E and aloe to create a rich, bubbly lather in the cleansing department. Gentle and non-drying, it is the perfect daily cleanser to leave skin feeling fresh and clean. The Moisturizing Body Wash is infused with shea and cocoa butter, and coconut oil for a deeper moistening effect. To complete the collection, a Sea Salt Hair Mist is the perfect touch for your tresses. Made with coconut water and sea salt, it leaves your mane soft and with an incredible texture. All products are dermatologist-tested. Embrace your summer days with a fragrance especially made for them.

TOUCH
In October, the girly colour represents more than just a pretty hue. Pink stands for a bigger cause during Breast Cancer Awareness month. OHLALA’s editor pays a visit to Dessange to try the Pink Indulgence Package, created to emphasise the importance of self-care.

I
t’s that time of the year again when pink becomes the colour of the month. At Dessange, awareness is taken seriously, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month is marked through a series of treatments that embrace pink. The idea is to highlight the importance of a self-examination routine and having your health checked regularly. When relaxing, we tend to be more attentive to our surroundings, and this beauty destination will ensure that you take care of yourself. I headed to Dessange to relish the themed Pink Indulgence Package. The beauty bundle is composed of the Radiance Pink Enhancing Facial at the spa and Genesis Hair Treatment at the salon while invigorating my body with the delicious Pretty in Pink, the juice of the month. The healthy drink is made with apple, watermelon, strawberry and orange, a great antioxidant elixir rich in fibre that lowers inflammation and oxidative stress – also an excellent source of vitamin C and potassium. At the reception, the friendly ladies make sure your temperature is taken, your green shield is shown and a form with Covid-19 related questions is filled – all to keep the beauty haven a safe environment. I got my locker key and went to the dressing area to change into their fluffy robe (I love those bathrobes so much). My first pampering session was at the calming and welcoming spa.

Yanie, my therapist, led the way to my treatment room and explained that the Radiance Pink Enhancing Facial includes a gentle exfoliation and a peel-off mask with fruit extract that hydrates, brightens and restores the skin’s natural and healthy, velvety texture. The therapy is a manual facial, and she started with the cleansing process. Knowing that I was going for a facial, I skipped my make-up routine; even though I don’t wear layers of products, it was strange to step out of the house without anything, just my sunscreen. Exfoliation was the next step, followed by steam and blackhead extraction. A process that, in my opinion, we should go through more often. It’s not the most relaxing experience, but the feeling that all the yuckiness of your skin is being removed is such a good one. She then applied the serum with synchronised movements that helped the product penetrate deeply into the complexion. The massage also relaxes the facial muscles and creates a lifting effect. The Radiance peel-off mask, rich in fruit acids, was applied and gave me a refreshing sensation. The mask’s benefits are the removal of dead cells, delay in the appearance of fine lines, and reduction of sebum excess while eliminating the annoying T-zone shine. And the best surprise you get while waiting for the mask to dry? A scalp, shoulders, arms and hands massage – what an unexpected treat! Yanie removed the beautifully pink-tinted mask and proceeded to finalise the treatment with another layer of serum and eye cream. Time is a funny thing; sometimes, five minutes takes forever, while hours can feel like five minutes. I can say that the time I spent with Yanie was the fastest hour of my life.

To my joy, my beauty journey at Dessange was not finished. I moved from the spa to the salon area where Joanne, the hair specialist, and my Pretty in Pink juice waited. The Genesis Hair Treatment from Kérastase (which is packaged in pink containers) is a range of products that treats both kinds of hair fall, the one that occurs at the root and the one from fibre breakage. A collection of 10 products is supercharged with a potent complex that includes Aminexil, edelweiss native cells and ginger roots. My hair was indeed begging for help. I am a highlights enthusiast, but they leave my tresses prone to breakage, so I was excited to have this boost of goodness improving my mane’s texture. At the washing station, Joanne wetted my hair and applied the detox powder mixed with the line’s special shampoo on my scalp. After rinsing it, she used a serum for the scalp and a mix of ampoules to treat the ends. The products are left in the hair for 10 minutes and, while we waited, Joanne spoiled me with a scalp massage – a taste of heaven, anyone? Back in my salon chair, Joanne applied the Defense Thermique product for my ends before Priyanka could blow dry my locks and work her magic on styling them. My hair was incredibly soft; even Priyanka was impressed with how well my tresses embraced the treatment. I left Dessange that day feeling light as a feather. My face was renewed, my hair was silky and bouncy, with an incredible smell. Once again, I felt I’d been treated like a royal at Dessange and left with the mission of getting my feminine health checked.

usy days and long lists of things to do are part of everyone’s life. And if you are a working mum like me, it is easy to carry on with routine and forget to enjoy the little joys in life. But we are all lucky from time to time, and I got to hit pause and went for the Relaxed Us customised massage for mother and daughter (also available for father and son) at The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay. The best ‘to-do’ on my list in a very long time! When you have more than one child (I have two, and they are a boy and a girl with a significant age gap), you tend to do things with both and not give specific attention to them individually. After my bonding experience at Four Seasons, I decided this is something I need to change and make sure that I go on different activities separately with each of them from time to time. I noticed how positive this experience was to my daughter and how important these things are in parent-child relationships – thank you, Four Seasons! My daughter and I arrived at The Spa, and Ahmed, the spa receptionist, couldn’t have been more welcoming. He gave us bottles of water infused with vitamin B6, B12, niacin, biotin and magnesium with violet and mango flavour. The refreshing drink has zero sugar and works as an energising elixir, perfect for fighting the constant thirst in hot weather. We both received touchscreen tablets to fill in with personal information and preferences regarding the type of pressure we wished to have and even the music we wanted to listen to while having our treatments. Such a personalised touch left us amazed at how much they care about everyone’s individuality.

SPA Spotlight After filling the form, Myo Myo took the lead and showed us all the spa facilities, which include a Jacuzzi, sauna and, the one that caught our attention, the Salt Inhalation Room. The pinkish room has a giant Himalayan crystal sitting in the centre of the relaxation room for a halotherapy session to improve the respiratory system. The indoor pool is also part of this impressive space, and we did go back to it after our pampering session. It was time to disconnect from the world outside and lie down on the massage beds, each of us accompanied by our skilled masseuses, Yukon and Rattaya. The Relaxed Us is a 45-minute, full-body customised therapy that uses relaxing massage techniques such as long stroking, gentle palm pressure and skin rolling. The experience is combined with a unique blend of aromatic oils, which helps calm and loosen up the muscles and soothe the mind. For me, massages are the best way to turn off all the worries and stress of everyday life and deeply connect with myself – a journey into our minds while releasing all the body tensions. I asked for moderate pressure, which Yukon applied wisely over my entire body, from head to toes, without missing any vital part. The attention to my shoulders and neck was bliss. Lots of writing on my computer and being almost attached to my phone have caused some damage to the area – love and attention were all it needed.

It was my daughter’s first massage experience, and I was curious to know what she had to say; and these are her words: “It was my first time receiving a massage, and I honestly didn’t know what to expect. However, it was amazing! I was able to relax and felt the tension leave my muscles. The atmosphere was also very tranquil, with dim lighting and my choice of calm background music. As well as excellent and kind staff, this is an experience I recommend to others who wish to forget their worries or spend too much time sitting down (like me and my long hours at school). I had a wonderful time, and I would most definitely do it again!” After this invigorating experience, we had comforting lemongrass and honey tea before heading to the indoor pool for a splash. Thanks to the entire team at The Spa, I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon with my daughter. I learned so much about what is currently happening in her life at school, and she was also thrilled to have her mum just for herself. A mother and daughter experience that we will cherish forever. And because we were already at Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay, we decided to sit at the Bay View to enjoy the beautiful view for some extra time together, chit-chatting and savouring our coffee and bites. An experience I genuinely suggest to all mums out there looking to spend some time with their children. The treatment at The Spa is available for a parent and child from six to 15 years old and you can also opt for the Beautiful Us, a relaxing facial massage, or Glowing Us, a gentle full-body massage and exfoliation treatment.

popular spice in Eastern cuisine, turmeric is a flowering plant native to Southern India and Indonesia that has its roots used in many dishes. Known for its yellow/orange colour, strong aroma and bold flavour, this root has some incredible medicinal properties and has been used as a natural skincare ingredient since ancient times. The beauty benefits of turmeric for your skin are anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce skin irritation and anti-bacterial characteristics, which act as a great ally to fight acne. The golden powder is also rich in antioxidants, preventing hyperpigmentation and scars while fighting free radicals and slowing down cell damage. And, as if it didn’t have enough qualities, it is also said to treat fine lines and wrinkles. To take full advantage of turmeric’s attributes, some other ingredients can be added to create the perfect homemade facial mask. Whether you are looking for an improved complexion or want to treat specific needs, this rich powder will become your go-to ingredient on your spa days at home.
OHLALA’s Turmeric Facial Mask What you’ll need:
1 tsp turmeric powder 1 tsp apple cider vinegar 1 ½ tbsp honey 1 tsp milk or yoghurt
How to make and apply it:
1. Mix the turmeric powder, apple cider vinegar, honey and milk or yoghurt in a small bowl. The idea is to create a paste-like consistency that will stick on your face without dripping. 2. Wash and dry your face to remove any impurities. Also, opt for an old T-shirt while undergoing your turmeric treatment, so you don’t get any of your favourite clothes stained. 3. Apply the mask using your fingers or a make-up brush, avoiding eye contact. 4. Allow the mask to sit on your face for 15 minutes. Rinse off the paste with warm water, and don’t get scared if your skin looks a bit yellow afterwards. If you are too pale, the turmeric might dye your complexion, but it will go away in a few hours or try to use cleansing oil to remove the yellowish tint. PS: Dairy-based products such as milk and yoghurt help avoid turmeric leaving its colour on your complexion, so make sure it is added to your mask. However, if the treatment still stains, make a quick sugar and water scrub and apply it to your skin.

IN THE
LEADERSHIP SEAT This month, OHLALA talks about success and challenges with Cristalyn Pastrana, Complex Director of Marketing, The Westin and Le Meridien City Centre Bahrain.

OHLALA Voices “We learned to find ways to turn adversities into opportunities. We were able to challenge ourselves more to be grateful and resourceful and find a solution to sustain the business. ” – Cristalyn Pastrana
OHLALA - How did hospitality enter your life? Cristalyn Pastrana - I started my hospitality career in Jordan 15 years ago in the Mövenpick Dead Sea. I have since been working in hospitality marketing focused on marketing strategies, specialised in public and media relations, digital marketing, branding, social media and web management in the Middle East with international hotel chains. What I like about my hospitality job is that it allows me to travel the world and work in different countries. OHLALA - What have been the three main highlights in your career until now? Cristalyn - The first one would be my promotion to the Director role in 2014 at the Sheraton Bahrain Hotel. Second, taking the Cluster Director of Marketing position for Sheraton, The Westin & Le Meridien City Centre Bahrain, was a significant step forward in my career. And the third one was the opening of our newest Spanish restaurant, Salero, at The Westin City Centre Bahrain. It was a great opportunity to put together a marketing strategy and execution for this new addition to Bahrain’s dining scene, especially at this time. OHLALA - Which part of your job do you like the most? Cristalyn - I love the brainstorming part and creating offers with our team. You would be amazed at all the ideas coming from restaurant managers, chefs and the rest of the team. It is also a special moment when we debrief after a successful event, and you get to share the details of the achievements with the team.
OHLALA - What has been the biggest challenge you have had in your career so far? And how did you overcome it? Cristalyn - Covid-19 has affected everyone in the world and, most especially, our industry. It was a challenging time for us because there were moments when we needed to completely shut down operations of the outlets and even the hotel due to restrictions. However, at the same time, we learned different things, and we became more resilient. We learned to find ways to turn adversities into opportunities. We were able to challenge ourselves more to be grateful and resourceful and find a solution to sustain the business. OHLALA - How long have you been living in Bahrain? What do you like most about the island? Cristalyn - I have been in Bahrain for 12 years. The Kingdom will always have a special place in my life; my only daughter was born here from a personal perspective. Still, even profession-wise, Bahrain has given me many opportunities to excel in my career in the hospitality industry. OHLALA - If you could change one thing in your life or the world, what would it be? Cristalyn - My life is not perfect, just like everyone else, but I would not change anything in my life at all. Contentment is key, and I am grateful for the life that I have.

Everything is possible at our fingertips these days. Technology and a lack of boundaries in the digital arena are opening space for new experiences, services, and products. Welcome to the internet jungle!
T
COTTONBRO ON PEXELS
he digital world has been growing at a fast pace and, with the pandemic, it has received a big push. During the days of strict lockdown online shopping was mandatory if you wanted any new goods in your home beyond essential food and medical supplies. So even the most non-tech person had to learn to navigate in the virtual universe. A study by the U.S. Census Bureau showed that Americans spent US$791.7 billion during 2020 on e-commerce, a 32.4% growth when compared to 2019. This behaviour means that e-commerce accounted for 14% of total retail sales, compared to 11% in 2019. Most of the purchases were in the fields of groceries, home improvement products and items to help relieve boredom during lockdowns, such as sporting goods and musical instruments. Together with articles to keep people distracted while staying at home, many virtual services were also required. Learning a new language was one of them. According to data compiled by the free language app Duolingo, 30 million people attempted to learn a new language in the weeks after the world was forced into lockdown. With all the new instruments that were bought, the need for virtual teachers increased. According to Yamaha, 75% of Britons turned to music as a hobby during this period. Music teachers from all over the globe took the opportunity to offer their expertise in video classes and online teaching.

OHLALA Insights Online shopping Amazon.com and eBay launched their sites in 1995 and Alibaba in 1999. The culture of buying online started there and just grew exponentially. The website digitalintheround.com predicts that in 2021 there will be anywhere between 12 to 24 million online shops. It is difficult to keep up with numbers, many companies are going out of business, and new shops are popping up out of necessity and change. In the fashion world, online shopping has been part of people’s lives for a long time. Designers have their collections available in the multi-brands marketplace, such as Tryano, Netaporter, Theoutnet and many more. About 10 years ago, subscriptions boxes such as Stich Fix and Franck and Oak appeared in the market and, with them, services such as virtual personal styling. A form with private information from measurements to taste has to be filled and a selection of clothing and accessories is sent to you. Some of them even offer virtual styling consultations. The idea of having someone helping you sort your wardrobe out is an exciting one, and there are personal stylists out there that have turned their services full-on virtual with a comprehensive step-by-step system.
Perfect Fit Technological tools have been key in the transformation of the fashion scenario. Companies like Zozo, MTailor and MySizeID have an even more audacious approach when it comes to the personalisation of your closet. The Japanese fashion retailer Zozo invested in a body-measuring suit and app. The measurements are taken from a tracking-dot covered body stocking. The improved version from the first model, the Zozosuit 2, can generate precise 3D body models with a simple and intuitive scanning process using your phone and is available for business partnerships. The American company MTailor does not use a bodysuit, but its app system calculates the measurements through your phone camera and sells you fitted T-shirts, shirts, jeans, and suits. The promise is a perfect fitting, no matter your body shape. Another app that uses a patented algorithm to take measurements is MySizeID, it uses technology already available in mobile phones without accessing the camera. “There are no pictures taken. It is completely private,” said MySizeID CEO Ronen Luzon. The app offers a solution for online shoppers and retailers alike. MySizeID lets consumers create an online profile of their measurements, which can then be used with partnered online retailers to ensure that the consumers get the right fit, no matter the manufacturer or size chart. With this technology, no one will be small, medium or large anymore, and clothes will have the main purpose of representing someone’s style — a big step forward in the fashion world.

Customised Beauty In the beauty scenario, the in-person factor is fundamental. You can watch tutorials online on how to give yourself a haircut but having this service through virtual reality is still not possible. Hairklinikken, a hair clinic founded in Denmark at the beginning of the ‘90s, and now with locations all over the globe, has an innovative way of offering virtual hair consultations. It does sound tricky, but we spoke with Lars Skjøth, Hairklinikken Founder and Lead Researcher, who told us about how they have been exploring the digital field and offering their tailor-made services. “For over 10 years, Harklinikken has been servicing clients virtually to help individuals who are unable to visit one of our clinics. It has always been a goal of mine to make effective hair care solutions accessible. Once the pandemic temporarily closed our physical clinics, safety and self-care became the primary concerns for our clients and us. Thankfully, we already had a lot of experience in the virtual scene, and all worked out well,” says Lars. A virtual consultation with a Harklinikken specialist begins on FaceTime or Zoom video call, with a detailed review of the client’s hair history and is followed by a thorough analysis of the hair and scalp. Photos from different angles and specific hair partitions are requested. If the specialist concludes
that the Harklinikken Hair Extract formula (100% personalised and handblended) is a good option for you, a programme with the brand’s product regime to meet your specific needs is created. “While we prefer to have the opportunity to invite people into our physical clinics, after years of experience in virtual consultations, we have finetuned the process to service the clients to achieve the best results possible,” highlights Lars. “The response from our customers about our remote appointments has been overwhelmingly positive. Our new clients were thrilled to hear that they can have access to Harklinikken specialists and good-quality hair care from the comfort and safety of their homes. So many have commented that this is the first time they felt listened to when opening up about their concerns on hair thinning,” he adds. When asked if he believes that people have been more open to trying online services with the pandemic, Lars said that with the continued technological advancements, their virtual department has been experiencing steady growth for many years, but the pandemic indeed yielded a significant rise in traffic. Whether you love or hate technology, little by little, it will enter your life and make it easier and more connected with every corner of the world and allow you to experience an abundance of services.

Boston, in the USA, is well-known for its research universities, the basketball team, the Boston Celtics, and delicious food. It is also the location of renovated hotel, The Newbury Boston, which will make your stay in the heart of the city a remarkable one. Heritage For more than 90 years, since its launch in 1927 as one of the first Ritz-Carlton hotels in the USA, The Newbury has always been more than just a luxury hotel and a beloved landmark in the city. Rather it has given visitors a place to call home, and somewhere to make unforgettable memories. 72

The Newbury, located in the premier shopping and dining neighbourhood of Back Bay, has served as a cherished and iconic destination, welcoming Boston residents, world leaders, dignitaries and celebrities alike. It’s no wonder that many guests return over and over to experience its timeless charm.
TRAVEL Escapes
New Layout Leveraging the talent of three world-renowned designers, the building has been thoughtfully transformed to offer 286 guestrooms and suites with 16,000sq/ft of spectacular event spaces, signature dining experiences and a reimagined entrance. The extensive restoration and revitalisation of the hotel pays homage to its rich history, while also incorporating modern luxury and carefully curated guest experiences. The main entrance was relocated from Arlington Street to Newbury Street and visitors are welcomed into an elegant, landscaped terrace plaza, which pays a visual nod to The Public Garden that lies adjacent. Dramatic window awnings and a new lighting design enhance the hotel’s neoclassical façade. In creating the new entrance and public spaces, internationally recognised architect Jeffrey Beers sought to invoke the spirit of the building’s heritage by incorporating many historic details, including the original cobalt blue chandeliers from the main dining room.

Sophisticated Living Historical architecture and residential comfort define each guestroom and suite at The Newbury Boston. Envisioned by acclaimed interiors firm Champalimaud Design to be residential in feel, each room employs a calming colour palette of blues, greys, and creams alongside tactile materials and custom furnishings. Handcrafted wood, herringbone accents, and marble touches further add a sense of lavish craftsmanship. Mimicking a home or a residence, the expansive foyer, bathroom and closet are spatially organised to feel like one generous dressing area – with off-white limestone and wood finishes incorporated in both the closet and vanities that create a bright, yet tranquil environment. Many rooms feature views of The Public Garden. Each room is appointed with original artwork by illustrator Veronica Lawlor, alongside bespoke amenities, including Byredo ‘Willow’ bath products, made expressly for the hotel, Frette robes and linens, and in-room Nespresso Vertuo espresso machines. Guests looking to upgrade their experience may choose to book one of the hotel’s 90 luxury suites, or one of two dramatic and extraordinary Presidential Suites. Artistic Vibe The Newbury Boston art collection draws upon the legendary salons of Europe, where avant-garde artists, writers, poets, musicians and fashion designers were invited by an inspiring host/hostess to come together for camaraderie and conversation. These salons became an artistic, literary and philosophical refuge for what was considered ‘revolutionary’ thinking and dialogue amongst the literati giving rise to history-making moments that helped define modern society. The Newbury’s collection reaches back into the rich history of the city and the property, considering both as a source and stage for a range of works that illustrates the story of the property with elegance, style, rich visual flavour, and a touch of wit. There are paintings, photographs, sculptures and prints on view by diverse emerging and mid-career artists.

Wakan is a hidden gem nestled in the Western Hajer mountains in Oman. A farming village home to terrace gardens and apricot flowers, serving as an inspiration for Amal Al Raisi's autumn and winter 2021 collection. Dedicated to resilient women, this line embraces the inspiration by defining the strong layers embedded in each woman. Like the Sakura (cherry) blossom in Japan, when the apricot flowers of Wakan village are in full bloom, the place becomes a fairy tale of white flowers. These florets symbolise change and new beginnings which are captured in Amal's signature embroidery of leaves and flowers. The collection boasts the flowy silhouettes of long dresses and separates that stay true to the brand's feminine aesthetic, and the designs come with touches of lace and velvet. The colours used are intense grey and black, signifying fortitude and power, fused with hints of turquoise, embodying emotional balance, and pale rose, expressing grace. The lookbook was shot in collaboration with Jawahir Oman Jewellers.
AMAL AL RAISI BY IMAD HASSAN
OHLALA had the opportunity to talk to Amal about her brand and latest collection. OHLALA - Your creations have an Arabian touch. Are the Middle East and its traditions and culture your primary source of inspiration? Amal Al Raisi - My brand's identity is embedded in the idea of fusing tradition with modernity while honouring Arab roots. Every collection is inspired by an Omani element as I use my designs as a canvas to portray the heritage and craftsmanship of Oman to the rest of the world. OHLALA - What are the main fabrics used in your AW2021 collection, and which is your favourite? Amal - The collection is mainly comprised of soft crepe, lace, tulle and silks. The fabrics are highlighted using delicate embroidery techniques. I personally prefer the soft crepe as I feel it's a very light and comfortable fabric to wear. OHLALA - Your collections have traditional cuts; however, at the same time, the final pieces have a modern silhouette. How do you achieve that? Amal - I like to design for those on the lookout for feminine yet modern pieces to suit their style. With this in mind, I use traditional silhouettes as an inspiration and redesign them from a contemporary angle to suit today's women.

OHLALA - What is the message behind your clothes? What do you want women of all ages to feel when wearing an Amal Al Raisi piece? Amal - Through my designs, I want women to feel bold and confident while embracing their inner femininity.

elebrating special moments is an essential part of our journeys. To make them unforgettable, we do it surrounded by friends and memorable food. Choosing the right place is crucial, so we picked Rasoi by Vineet to celebrate some excellent news my friends had received. Rasoi by Vineet was the first fine-dining restaurant in Bahrain operated by a Michelin-starred chef, the renowned chef-restaurateur, Vineet Bhatia. When you step into the room, you feel its grandiosity. Spacious chairs and tables, beautiful artworks, sparkling crystals hanging from the ceiling and strategically positioned lights to give you the perfect seating arrangement to watch the main stage – the kitchen. The long cooking station takes almost an entire side of the restaurant and has large glass panels surrounding it for our enjoyment. At the end of the kitchen, a private Chef ’s Table dining room is composed of a big oval table, the perfect spot to get a group of friends together. We arrived at the restaurant, and Chetan, one of the friendly staff members, took us to a table surrounded by crystal curtains. On the other side of the room, we could see the bright kitchen and the busy cooking team preparing mouth-watering food. Sri, the restaurant manager, came right after (in a stylish suit that we all loved) and explained that we were having a selection of plates carefully chosen for our dining experience. It is important to highlight that the editor here does not eat animal products, so I thought my dining journey wouldn’t match that of my companions. However, at Rasoi by Vineet, all dietary restrictions are accommodated and, if they know in advance, they can prepare a more comprehensive selection. In my case, they did, and, oh boy! My food was as impressive as the regular menu. Chef Tej Thapa, who has been working with Chef Vineet for 17 years, and his team will ensure that you have the dining experience of your dreams despite any restrictions.

CHIC Eats After ordering our drinks, the traditional crackers arrived with flavourful dips. The small containers were filled with beetroot, mint, spicy mango, coconut with mustard seeds and tamarind chutneys. The non-dairy coconut one got the table’s ovation, a fresh and distinct combination that played with our taste buds. The amuse bouche that followed was composed of a shot of Muglai Dal Shorba, a healthy and hearty soup made with yellow moong dal, and Dahi Puri, a staple snack in Indian cuisine. The thin shell was filled with refreshing ingredients such as finely chopped onions and tomatoes with a mix of chutneys that created an explosion of flavour. The starters arrived, and they were plated as an art piece. My dining comrades had the Tandoori Salmon, a home-smoked salmon tikka (small pieces of meat or vegetables marinated in a spice mixture) with dill-mustard and honey. According to my husband, this was the best salmon of his entire life. Chef Vineet is known for adding a creative twist while creating dishes with unexpected flavours, and that’s what was behind this fantastic fish. The other two appetisers were part of the Kabab Mela menu (available until October 20), the Citrusy Orange Chicken Tikka, tandoori chicken pieces marinated in a citrusy mix, and the Gilafi Lamb Seekh Kabab, a traditional lamb kabab coated with mint and bell peppers for an extra hint of flavour. In a separate bowl, they served a mandatory bite in every Indian restaurant, Samosa Chaat, a triangular dough filled with cheese and coriander, served over a bed of Chana Masala (chickpea curry) and topped with tasty sauces. My version was composed of crispy stir-fried broccoli, which I couldn’t find on the menu, I will start a petition to get it added as soon as possible. The small floret bites had the perfect balance between great seasoning, stickiness and crispiness, absolutely delicious. I also had the Green Pea Radish Chaat, which was quite refreshing, and Hara Bhara Kabab, a vegetarian take on the meaty option, which was made with spinach, boiled potatoes, herbs and spices. The Subz Samosa, a non-dairy option of the famous fried triangles, also in a bed of Chana Masala, was consumed in seconds.

A palate cleanser made with a drop of ginger and lychee sorbet, or a grapefruit version, got our taste buds ready for the main feast. My special menu came in a beautiful Rasoi by Vineet tiffin that looked hand-painted, adding extra excitement to discover the food inside. In the bottom part, I found Aloo-Gobhi Masala made with cauliflower florets and baby potatoes cooked in a chunky onion and tomato masala with a finishing touch of fresh ginger. In the middle, a rich and fragrant Dal Tadka, yellow lentils seasoned with onion, tomato and garlic. And on top of the tiffin, Palak Corn, spinach cooked with sweet corn that added a hint of robust nuttiness to my Subz Pulao, a gourmet rice dish with fresh vegetables and Tandoori Roti (Indian flatbread). The meat-eaters had Chicken Tikka Makhani, a chicken tikka in a creamy tomato-fenugreek sauce, a popular dish but one that at Rasoi gets gourmet status for its surprising mix of spices. The Lamb Shank was the star of the mains; while Sri removed the melting meat from the bone (which is marinated for 24 hours and cooked for about 12 hours), there was complete silence at the table. A ceremony enjoyed even by me. And, as they reported, the slow-cooked meat’s beautiful flavour was accented by the Kashmiri spices and yoghurt in which it had been cooked. To accompany the proteins, they also had Dal Tadka and Jhinga Biryani, prawns cooked in peanut and curry leaf masala, layered with saffron basmati rice, fresh coriander and caramelised onion. The dessert was a selection of Rasoi Sorbets for me, with phenomenal compositions, saffron-pineapple, kaffir lime leaf - lemongrass and raspberryfennel. Meanwhile, my friends enjoyed the Rasoi Dessert Platter with chocolate caramel cake, Rasmalai, Gulab Jamun and Mango Kuffi, stepping into Indian sweets paradise. Our dining experience ended, but the memories from this evening will linger on our palates. We were introduced to a mix of singular flavours that I doubt we will find anywhere else. Indian cuisine is well-known for its extremely spicy dishes, but at Rasoi by Vineet, the heat was there as a complement to the distinct flavours, never overpowering and, for us, this was spot-on. Consistency and wow effect are also guaranteed.

We learn with Victoria Kruse how to make wiser decisions to conquer a clean eating habit while adding a new recipe to our cookbook.
T
his month, we asked Victoria what clean eating means for her: “Clean eating for me is several things. First and foremost, it is eating ‘real food’. Someone said to me once, only eat food that someone’s grandmother would recognise. That resounds in a few ways; first, I would think what my own grandmother would recognise. And here are the things: vegetables, usually from her garden, meat and dairy from nearby farms and dishes made from recipes handed down from previous generations. This also could hypothesise into the fact that we should be eating food from our own region, that we, as humans, evolved eating and our bodies became accustomed to. Our ancestors also ate food seasonally, and we are adapted to eat food when in season and when we need what that aliment [nourishment] gives us. For example, our ancestors ate fruit when it became ripe, meaning, in tropical countries, the end of the wet season; and, in seasonal countries, the end of summer. We would eat the glut of fruit at this time to put fat onto our bodies to survive the lean times, such as during winter or the dry season, when food would be scarce. Now, however, with flying food all over the world, we eat what we think we need, in other words, what we want rather than actually need.” We also asked how sustainability is directly related to a healthier eating habit, and here is what she had to say: “For me, it is linked in every possible way. When we make food ourselves from scratch, when we buy food from farmers’ markets, and even when we eat food in season. These attitudes create less packaging, which means less waste, fewer food additives and less harmful chemicals going into waste systems and consequently less food flown around the world, which means fewer air miles. It also signifies that the food is more nutritious, meaning, in my experience, that we need less of it to satiate our bodies. Sometimes we are hungry because our bodies instinctively know that something is missing, and we are ‘hungry’ because we are seeking a key mineral, amino acid or vitamin.” Victoria Kruse is a sustainability and wellness mentor. She was born and raised in a small town in New Zealand, surrounded by nature and rich biodiversity, and has always eaten homegrown and seasonal food. She is a chameleon with many talents and much knowledge to share. She worked in numerous fields before reinventing herself through learning and experience to become a sustainability and wellness mentor in the Maldives resort industry. As the creator of the ‘Wellness Your Way’ initiative, Victoria has developed recipes and shared with guests her philosophy of eating well for health and a more sustainable planet Earth.

Broccoli Fritters
Broccoli is a good source of vitamin K and calcium, it also contains phosphorus, zinc and vitamins A and C. Ingredients:
300g broccoli florets 70g (1/2 cup) ground almond 3 free-range or preferably pasture-raised eggs 1tsp sea salt flakes 25g (1/4 cup) nutritional yeast 1tbs of psyllium husk 1 ½tsp baking powder
Method:
Place broccoli florets in a food processer and process until rice sized. Add all other ingredients and process until combined. Place into a bowl and leave aside for five minutes until the psyllium husk has absorbed the liquid. Heat some extra virgin olive oil in a frying pan over a low heat. Add spoonfuls of the batter to the oil. Fry on the first side for about three to four minutes, do not try to turn until the fritter easily releases from the pan with a turner. Turn and fry on the second side for two minutes. I serve the fritters with organic baby spinach leaves or sliced avocado drizzled with a good quality extra virgin olive oil, but they are also delicious with smoked salmon and goat cheese. These are suitable for keto, paleo, low carb, gluten-free and dairy-free diets. They keep well in the fridge overnight and are great with poached eggs on top for breakfast. @victoria_maldiveswellness

V
olkswagen is a brand that holds a worldwide reputation for producing outstanding motor vehicles. The VW Beatle, the VW Polo, the VW Golf and the VW Tiguan are all proud creations of this massively successful automobile manufacturer. This month, thanks to the amazing team at Volkswagen Bahrain, OHLALA got the opportunity to test drive the new and improved VW Teramont, a vehicle that has recently received a stylish facelift. Available in seven different colours, the 2021 VW Teramont exudes an air of confidence with its large frame and classy finishes. With a length of over five metres, a width of almost two metres and a height of more than 1.7m, the VW Teramont is the largest SUV in the Volkswagen family. Although this updated model maintains the same foundation as the previous generation, there are many new features that elevate it above its predecessor. The newly designed grille sits smartly at the front end of the Teramont, housing the globally recognised VW badge. The front diffuser now sits slightly lower on the vehicle and sports a fashionable silver lip. The front bumper has also been redesigned and, along with new IQ.Light, full-LED headlamps and fog lights, gives the car a contemporary feel. The neat lines
of the flanks draw the eye effortlessly from front to rear, with the silver roof rails and striking design of the 20-inch alloy wheels adding to the modern look of the vehicle. At the back end, an updated rear bumper, with IQ.Light and full-LED taillamps, finishes off the Teramont in style. We were fortunate enough to test drive a model with the coveted Highline trim. Inside this version you will find a clean and functional environment that has a premium feel to it. The driver’s 10-way adjustable and front passenger’s eight-way adjustable, ventilated power seats, in leather, offer an abundance of both comfort and support. The next generation steering wheel, also in leather, is well designed and feels great in hand. The driver’s controls have been positioned for optimal ergonomics, providing the most efficient driving environment possible. An eight-inch Touch Adaptable Infotainment System along with a Volkswagen Digital Cockpit 10-inch display, both offer easy accessibility to the vehicle’s various functions and information. A three-zone Climatronic AC and a panoramic sunroof will ensure you and your family are always kept cool and comfy. Customers can opt for either Highline or the prestigious R-Line trim, which can be ordered accordingly.

The three rows of seating provide space for up to seven people to sit comfortably in this SUV, with both rows in the back allowing for customisable seating arrangements. An innovative folding mechanism for the second row offers easy entrance and exit room on both sides by enabling the second-row bench to tilt and slide forward, even with a child seat in place. Being a family-orientated car, the Teramont provides plenty of charging points, cup holders and storage space throughout the vehicle to keep everyone happy. The luggage compartment offers 583 litres of storage, a capacity that can be increased up to 2,741 litres when both rear rows of seating are folded flat. Performance wise, our Teramont boasts a 3.6-litre FSI, six-cylinder petrol engine that produces 3,597CC, 280hp and 360Nm of torque. The power of this well-constructed engine, along with the eight-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic, enables this SUV to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 8.1 seconds and offer a top speed of 190km/h. Not too shabby for a car weighing in at almost two tonnes. Add the 4Motion AllWheel Drive system combined with responsive braking to the equation, and you have one very capable vehicle. This setup provides the convenience of an automatic with the hands-on sportiness of a manual transmission.
96

Adding to the family-friendly factor of the new Teramont is the abundance of safety features fitted to safeguard you and your loved ones. An automatic post collision braking system, three-point seatbelts for all seats, side-curtain head protection airbags covering all three rows, along with the car’s reinforced safety cage construction, provide a safe environment for all occupants. Electronic safety systems include an anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control, lane assist, park assist, blind spot monitor with rear traffic alert, adaptive cruise control and so much more. All-in-all, we found the new VW Teramont to be a good-looking, modern and versatile vehicle.

IS SCREEN ADDICTION A REAL THING? AND IF SO, HOW CAN YOU FIGHT IT?
SHADAB ON PEXELS
Digital technology has been more significant and present in our lives than ever in recent years. We can use the virtual world to shop, date, study, play online sports with virtual friends, and the list goes on almost infinitely. We can explore the world from the comfort of our sofas. According to research commissioned by Vision Direct, the average U.S. adult will spend the equivalent of 44 years of their life staring at screens (TVs, smartphones, computers, tablets). The study also shows that it takes less than 10 minutes for the average adult to look at a screen after waking up each day – with six in 10 taking a glance within five minutes. New experiences are one click away, but when do we know we’ve had enough screen time as adults? Health experts from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute in the U.S. say that we should limit screen time to less than two hours per day outside work. Too much screen time can
