L
et the revelry begin. Our December issue is nothing short of fun, thoughtful and beautiful. It’s all about saying goodbye to 2016 with a true bang of glitter, shimmer and extravagance on all accounts: outfits, beauty, parties and luxury hotel stays. This time of year always seems to involve a frantic dash from the office to evening celebrations, so we have a wide range of versatile outfits for instant glamour. The wonderful part of it, is that you can be as out-there as you want via some heavy-duty metallics or winter florals or even a severely sharp suit for the androgynous among you. And of course, having some style inspiration from revered designers Arwa Al Banawi and Reem Acra goes a long way with their must-have pieces, favourite looks for the season and the best places to visit to ring in the new year. Not forgetting all our friends and family who’ve been good this year, we have a gift guide filled with stunning wardrobe and lifestyle pieces that are sure to put the biggest smile on someone’s face. Our designer focus section includes two of the most established names in Parisian fashion history: Roland Mouret and Sophie Delafontaine of Longchamp, the purveyors of trailblazing style who lend some brilliant talking points on what it means to be a modern woman who strives to be her own self – decked out in the most telling fashion of our time. As for the rest of the issue, you’ll find that we’ve been the ultimate gadabouts taking great pleasure in sampling spectacular spreads of food in our monthly chic eats as well as exploring the best of what’s on offer during the festive period – there’s no five-star property that’s not putting on a production of luxury fare for one and all. So take the time to enjoy the best of what Doha has in store and join us in living to the max. See you in 2017!

As we come to an end to a fabulous 2016, most of us are gearing up for another great year ahead. From great gatherings to exquisite culinary experiences in Doha, we are closing another year with a glamorous and grand edition of Ohlala. This month, our food columnist Polly from Follow Your Sunshine, had a delicious adventure at the upbeat hotel Adagio, and gave us her thoughts on her culinary journey. Also, we took the opportunity to relax and unwind at one of the most prestigious spas in the city, drum roll please, Six Senses Spa at Sharq Village & Spa. It didn’t disappoint one bit as we tried their complete Hammam Journey – check that out in our Health Files pages. But for those who wish to celebrate with sumptuous dining experiences, we list the venues that will be popping to celebrate this month’s festivities with style. But enough of eateries, let’s talk about dressing accordingly! We give you the lowdown on what to purchase for a great season ahead at reasonable prices – all in our Ohlala Boutiques section. Enjoy Qatar’s National Day and wave that flag with pride.

I
’m in the Boulevard Suite at Vida Hotel, Dubai and am greeted by Roland Mouret with a kiss on each cheek. He’s the George Clooney of the fashion world: tall, dark and incredibly handsome. This is not the first time I’ve met Mouret, yet his charm wins me over again and I’m left feeling like a giddy schoolgirl. For over a decade, Mouret has created some of the most coveted womenswear collections. The designer has defined the era of the iconic dresses, which have become known as a single name – Galaxy, Titanium, Moon. These dresses have earned Mouret the reputation of a magician, master of structure and silhouette and as a man with an intuitive understanding of the female form. Mouret is in Dubai to promote his Resort 17 collection, which is bold, yet colourful and looks towards the beauty behind botanical gardens for inspiration. The eponymous collection is injected with geometric silhouettes and a kaleidoscopic colour scheme of fuschia pink, aqua blue and pastel
accents set against monochromatic tones of black, crisp whites, grey and shiny metallics. “The whole inspiration for the Resort collection was the Chelsea Flower Show in London,’ he tells me matter-of-factly. “Flowers, flowers, flowers, I’m a big fan of that show and I loved the contrast of the contradiction between strong bold coloured florals and soft, pastel blooms. I was really attracted to that.” For this collection, Mouret introduces the new cape for the season; free-spirited, sleeves slip off the shoulder and generous straps sit on the collarbone - it takes you from the freedom of the day to the mystery of the night, a most versatile piece that should be a staple in every woman’s wardrobe.
“These dresses have earned Mouret the reputation of a magician, master of structure and silhouette”

“The eponymous collection is injected with geometric silhouettes and a kaleidoscopic colour scheme” When describing who the Roland Mouret woman of today is, the designer explains she’s the same woman from over 10 years ago. “She’s a woman who enjoys to be a woman and who loves to try on clothes. She has her struggles on a day-to-day basis but she deals with it and gets on with things. She is every woman, I have no specific woman in mind, only her qualities, her independence and her style brings them all together. She has evolved beautifully, she knows who she is,” he explains. Mouret has an innate understanding of women and the female form. He instinctively drapes fabric on the body rather than drawing sketches. He likes to be close to the shape of the body, interacting with fabric and form with his hands. He has a very intimate and technical purity when putting a collection together. The essence of his success, he insists, is the physicality of knowing how a person 64

wants to undress. “Dresses are for undressing. We all dress up to undress.” Behind every successful designer, is a host of predecessors who once lent their magic and sartorial secrets to budding designers at a time when their names were yet to be up in lights. When talking about designers who he looks up to, Mouret speaks of two in particular. “I’ve had some true masters teach me such as Yohji Yamamoto and Azzedine Alaia. I admire Alaia’s integrity, his attitude and even his temper. He knows how to dress women and they love it. He is my absolute idol (along with Yohji Yamamoto) and he even inspired me when it came to my first store. I’m also a huge fan of Chanel. I also really like Christopher Kane and what he’s doing for fashion, I’ve watched his career from the beginning,” he says. Mouret has been to Dubai several times and describes it as an interesting emerging market. “I think you can see from the young designers here that they are really trying to establish themselves with an identity and are trying to find ways to export their product, which was a similar struggle I had in the 90s,” he recalls. But from that struggle unfolded a glittering raft of celebrity names attached to his own, after years of hard work and dedication. From Cameron Diaz to Michelle Obama and The Duchess of Cambridge, they are all huge fans of his designs and have been regularly seen dressed to the nines in his pieces. “I don’t have anyone in particular in mind who I’d like to see wearing my dresses. I’m not trying to run after the ones I don’t have, especially when I am so lucky that I get to dress so many celebrities. I don’t worry about the ones I don’t have, I don’t care, one day she will come. I just feel so lucky and I must be doing something right.”

Family Values Longchamp’s story is one of rich history. Not only does it date back to 1948, it’s evolved through the hands of family members. Sophie Delafontaine, the artistic director of Longchamp, tells Georgie Bradley how she adds her own flair to the brand and why it’s funkier than ever
U
nder a thickly striped umbrella, staged in the middle of an outdoor café table, imagine a smart and sophisticated Longchamp bag (perhaps punctuated with print) sitting glamorously among a chic trio of croissants, coffee and pastries. The bag’s owner is donned in a supple calfskin jacket, straight black trousers and feline sunglasses that rest angularly on her razor-sharp cheekbones. She is what you’d conjure up in your mind as a campaign for the brand – her and the hyper-dynamic Alexa Chung, as she’s come to be THE Longchamp woman over the years. The brand, despite being innately Parisian and thereby seen as a classic, is edging towards a more funky identity of late. You’ll always find a clean tote in a warm, natural hue but you should expect the unexpected, too. But there’s no one more knowledgeable of the brand’s evolution from its tobacco store days when it was first founded in 1948 by Sophie Delafontaine’s grandfather, Jean Cassegrain. Sophie, the current artistic director of Longchamp, stepped into the multi-generational brand alongside her father, Philippe Cassegrain in 1995, having lived and breathed it her entire life. Now, at the helm of the brand, she has upped its style stakes and continues to revolutionise the Longchamp pieces to suit any wearer – the bolder, the better. 66
www.ohlala-magazine.com
How do you continue to meld your grandfather’s vision for Longchamp with your own artistic touch? This is my daily challenge! I want to maintain the ‘savoir-faire’ and high quality of our products that have always been our strength. At the same time I want to create collections for women of our modern times. When I joined the company, I did not want to do a revolution. I think that I brought a more feminine touch and more colours into the collections and the alchemy works quite well! What do you think allows Longchamp to continuously be a classic brand? I don’t really consider Longchamp as a classic brand. I learn from existing ‘savoir-faire’ and go on innovating and show more and more fashion oriented collections. Longchamp is in a creative process, trying new technics, new materials etc. The challenge is to design new exciting lines each season, new exclusive prints, new colours and modernise or reinvent timeless classic lines.

What kind of woman carries a Longchamp bag? The Longchamp woman likes fashion but is not a victim of fashion. She is an elegant woman with a French flair. She is confident and ready to take up daily challenges from work to family. She is a dynamic cosmopolitan city dweller. More recently the bags have a more youthful appeal with fun prints. How adventurous and dynamic do you aim to be with the designs? Colours and prints are in the Longchamp DNA. In the 70s my father, Philippe Cassegrain, already worked with artist Serge Mendjiski on luggage that became a complete piece of art realised with patches of different leathers and colours. We still love to play with all the technics available, inkjet print, embroideries, patches of material and each season an exclusive print sets the tone of the season. What piece is your absolute favourite? For this A/W 16 season, my favourite is of course the new Paris Premier bag. I love its graphic and pure lines as much as the beautiful soft touch leather. What does it mean for Longchamp to have Alexa Chung as the face of the campaigns over the last few seasons? What does she represent for the brand? Her spontaneous and energetic personality made her a natural choice. She is a woman with a natural elegance and style, for whom fashion is a reality. She perfectly embodies the Longchamp woman. She is an international woman. She has the style and elegance of a Parisian with a little Rock n Roll touch of an English woman and the character of a New Yorker. Why do you feel a Longchamp bag is the definitive professional woman’s bag, as it’s come to be? Some of the Longchamp handbags can be aimed at professional businesswomen. I really pay attention to the proportions and other details that make the bag the companion of the day. For example, I try to create tote bags that are not too heavy even if they are made with leather. 68

Feel Tea-rrific
Nurture your skin with hydrating products, especially if you’re one to use a lot of makeup. If you ask me, green tea is just the perfect match since it flushes out toxins from the skin, heals blemishes, and soothes the complexion.
Add A Pop Of Colour
You got home late and now you’re in a rush for brunch? Relax, we’ve got your covered. Apply a bit of concealer, especially in those areas of need and add a pop of colour to your lips. No matter what state you’re in, a bit of colour to your face will deliver the: “I’m ok, ready to go” look.

Exfoliate Till You Drop
Who said exfoliating is only for summer? Wrong. During this time of forever changing weather, exfoliating comes in very handy. Get rid of dead skin by scrubbing twice a week. And if you’re not into BHA, or AHA – then this is the perfect time to start packing on these retinols.
Green tea clay, silkmud
Stop The Break Out, Please
It’s that time of the year to look your very best, but you’re obviously breaking out. There a number of factors that could be triggering your skin with unwanted visitors. Stress being one, dirty bed sheets are definitely another – yes, clean your sheets! Dirty makeup up brushes, makeup that clogs your pores. I’d say: get rid of old makeup utensils and start clean.
Beauty Column It’s that time of year again where we pull out our cocktail dresses and gowns and dust off the nutribullet… that’s right, it’s party season. After a long, hot summer it seems someone has switched the lights back on and invitations to dinner parties, drinks and festive celebrations are arriving quicker than we can keep up with. Well, fear not, I’m here to help through this busy time so you can look and feel your best. Organisation Is Key
Book all your pampering appointments now. Being organised is so important and will save you from lots of stress and give you more time for partying. Time slots fill up super quickly towards the end of the year so book all your hair appointments, mani/pedis, spray tans and blow-dries now to avoid being disappointed. It pays to book now right up until new years.
Keep Up Your Skincare Regime
You’ll probably be very tired around this time but don’t let your skin down as there’s only so much that make up can hide, so be sure to wash your face thoroughly and treat yourself to a deep cleanse facial if time permits so that your complexion won’t suffer. Load up on serums, eye cream and hydrating moisturisers to get you through. A good moisturising mask will do wonders also.
Invest In Clever Products
Make up wipes, illuminating concealer, longwear foundation, dry shampoo and anything hydrating and glowing are your best friends for party season. This also goes for any type of product that doubles as something else, like a lip tint that can also be used as blush, so that you can take it with you in your small but fabulous party clutch.
Keep It Simple
Take the stress out of getting party ready by hiring someone to come to your house to do your blow-dry or your make up. If doing your own hair and make-up is really not your thing then outsource it to the professionals. There are a few great companies that can even come to your house to get you red carpet ready. Speaking of keeping things simple, this can also relate to makeup and hair if you are doing it yourself. You don’t need to go overboard with major hairstyling or loads of make up; a chic ponytail and a simple make-up look with a slick of gloss and lots of mascara can look just as good as a full-on hair and makeup style.
Don’t Skip The Gym
Your body will thank you come new year’s day if you’ve managed to keep up your fitness regime. It’s so easy to say “oh but I’m so tired” or to just be lazy while stuffing that 15th mince pie in your gorgeous face but exercise will actually boost your energy and give you a better quality of sleep. Be sure to also drink loads of water. Last year I told you all not to overindulge on the party food and then preceded to eat numerous amounts of deep fried Arancini balls - this year I’m not saying anything (if anyone sees me out please come and prise the canapes out of my hands).

Travel Escapes
“The hotel interiors matches its unique history. Its renovation, under the helm of New York designer, Tony Chi, has caught well-deserved attention” Having visited Geneva and discovered all its grandeur,
I have to say, it was nothing I expected it to be. Having flown with Qatar Airways in their new Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the airline knows how to bring the luxe factor to the skies. The new model is all about comfort and efficiency for its loyal costumers. Not only that, Qatar Airways is the first Middle Eastern airline to launch the 787 Dreamliner with an all-new airplane design to increase efficiency while improving the flying experience. Having also flown in their one of a kind (and super opulent) Business Class cabin, the Boeing 787 holds up to 254 passengers with 22 seats in Business Class and 232 in Economy – it’s definitely something out of this world. The many advanced technologies such as their latest feature of tinted photoelectric windows and a unique humidifier (preventing fatigue) offer a state-of-the-art experience. And with all of the above luxuries, the journey was smooth and spacious with impeccable dining throughout. After landing on Swiss soil with not a hint of fatigue or exhaustion, InterContinental Geneve became my home for several days. And when I say home, its friendly and discrete staff made my stay a pleasant one – I can’t say I felt homesick at all. It really didn’t
96

surprise me, what with all the professionalism and prestige of this hotel, that it is ranked among the world’s highest luxury 5-star hotels. It’s worth also noting that its worldly heritage is cemented by its proximity to the United Nations district and beyond that, you have outstanding views of Lake Leman and the majestic mountains of Mont Blanc and Jura which offer the best of nature. Staying in one the hotel’s spacious and modern rooms and waking up to a view filled with nature, was something that never got old. The prominent hotel is also popular among the elite, who take great pride in holding many events on the premises where it’s come to be a hub for political and social engagement. Famous world leaders have left their mark on the hotel over the years, such as four presidents of the United States of America, Kings and Queens from the world over (including from the Middle East) and countless ministers and ambassadors. The hotel interiors matches its unique history. Its renovation, under the helm of New York designer, Tony Chi, has caught welldeserved attention. The acclaimed and talented designer brought a new and fresh look to the venue with a more zen ambience and a modern twist. And as my stay was more pleasant and relaxing by the minute, the true cherry on top was visiting – without a doubt – one of the most tantilising resident spaces I will ever encounter in my life, and that is, The Residence. Located at the top of the hotel with a 360 degree view of the city, it is reserved for special stays for the most discerning guests. And when I say, discerning guests, I am of course referring to the Saudi Royal family and other leaders in the Gulf. Having had dinner at this magical place, also reworked by Tony Chi, it was as spectacular as I imagined it to be. From Christofle silver www.ohlala-magazine.com

“Staying in one the hotel’s spacious and modern rooms and waking up to a view filled with nature, was something that never got old” cutlery to artifacts from the George Smith Ottoman collection, The Residence was an unforgettable experience. But if your interests lie outside the realm of a hotel (like me), you’ll find that Geneva has a plethora of places to visit – where you can get that all important selfie with a stunning backdrop. My first stop with Geneva Tourism, was at the Victorinox boutique, where I made my own and personal Victorinox knife while taking a carving class. If you like challenges, then this will definitely be something for you, as you get to assemble your own personal knife to take home with an engraving, too. And for a more relaxed and family-oriented experience, Courage was my next stop: a place to purchase local food, flowers and other goods with a Mediterranean vibe to it. But the true stars of Geneva are the many chocolate ateliers the city offers. Of course I paid a welldeserved visit to Philippe Pascoët, an award winning chocolatier who knows how to combine the very best for an exotic bite. There I had the opportunity to taste the many chocolates they have to offer and learn about the history of chocolate and take my own creation home. This is seriously a must visit place, even if you’re late for your flight! But enough of eateries, Geneva is also known for its acclaimed watch making industry and luxurious shopping - all found at their famous Rue du Rhône with a myriad of jewellery boutiques, exclusive watch stores and other notable stores to make a shopping experience a worthwhile one. Geneva is also popular for its location and its accessibility for quick getaways to Milan, Lake Como, and France – all within a 2 hour journey. The city and its history unifies the local and outside visitors for a true understanding of what Geneva represents, having said that, the International Red Cross Crescent Museum and International District are experiences not to be missed when travelling to this beautiful city. Whether you visit for business purposes or you just want to unwind and enjoy nature at its best, the city of Geneva offers countless things to do. www.ohlala-magazine.com

SCISSORS If you happen to be looking for a solid, sophisticated and professional hairdresser, entrepreneur and businesswoman, Amel Boucena, is at the helm of her very own salon, Les Ciseaux D’Or Amel Paris. She talks to us about what it takes to start a business from scratch in an unknown country; plus, the many reasons why you should be visiting it very soon
How did you start your own business?
I initially came from Paris where I was working for the prestigious Alexandre Zouari salon. Having had an interested in the Middle East, he proposed that I relocate to Doha and manage the super luxurious franchise salon at W Hotel. There I had the chance to encounter and assist regular clients, VIPs, stars and so forth, which later led me to open my own grand spa and salon knows as: Les Ciseaux D’Or Amel Paris. What’s the biggest challenge in setting up a hair salon in Qatar? Bureaucracy! There’s a lot of paper work to handle, lots of laws to consider, as well as the recruitment, competition and bringing new customers in. What does beauty represent to you? Beauty for me is happiness and simplicity. It’s all about healthy skin, a well-maintained body, and healthy hair. What are your views on beauty in the region? In short it’s: sophisticated, up-to-date and luxurious. What’s your biggest passion? Hair styling and aesthetics has always been the job I wanted to do since I was young. Growing up I discovered that this was the perfect job for me, as creating new looks was a challenge I very much appreciated. Also, it gave me the chance to meet new people from different cultures and 100 www.ohlala-magazine.com
nationalities that shaped the woman I am today. It all started 28 years ago when I passed my CAP, Brevet and Brevet de Maîtrise qualifications in France, and then started teaching in Formula A (coiffure techniques) in Paris, and then moving onto being a manager of the VOG salon (a franchise from Paris) in Saudi Arabia, which all led me to open a hair salon in Kuwait, Dubai and now in Doha. What advice do you have for aspiring businesswomen? Recruit the right people: aggressive with a fierce marketing strategy. Know your country’s laws, build a customer profile, but also, having outstanding service is a must for a successful business. What’s your favourite part of what you do? The last touches to perfection - full customer satisfaction. What do you offer at Les Ciseaux d’Or Amel Paris? We have a hair section, skin section, nail section, Moroccan sauna hammam, VIP room, home service, LPG, and so much more. Who’s your biggest influence? Alexandre Zouari from Paris. Les Ciseaux D’Or Amel Paris is located at Villa 2, Al Markhiya, Ras Al Farkiya, DohaQatar. For more information call: 44502523

wasn’t sure what to expect as I took the elevator to the third floor of Adagio Premium Aparthotel West Bay for lunch at Al Dirwandi. The unassuming hotel is nestled between Intercontinental Doha The City and The Gate Mall, and I had bypassed it on many an occasion without noticing its existence. That day however, I was glad that I had finally stumbled across it. The Arabic ambience of Al Dirwandi can be felt as soon as you enter the doorway of the restaurant. Dark wooden lattice-style carvings adorn the walls and ceiling, and large, golden lampshades hang above your head, casting an ethereal glow on the surroundings, even in the full light of day. Cosy tables are segregated by a large buffet area in the middle of the room, which is perfect for events and helps give the modest-sized restaurant a feeling of space. Outside, a large open terrace showcases panoramic views of the sky scrapers of West Bay from an angle I have never seen before, with large, private booths at either end which can be booked for parties and social gatherings. I vowed right there and then that I would return with a group of friends one evening to take advantage of the perfect weather and enjoy the view of our city from a new perspective. Back inside, the waiting staff allowed me to pick my table, and I sat back to peruse the menu. Remaining predominantly Lebanese and Middle Eastern in composition, Chef Assaad Saad who originally hails from Tunisia is curating a brand new menu which includes traditional North African and Mediterranean dishes from his childhood. A ‘specials’ menu features a new Couscous dish each day, and I was lucky enough to be visiting on a day when Couscous Royale was being served. Heavily laced with aromatic spices and including large chunks of lamb and chicken, as well as Merguez sausages, this is a celebratory dish which is eaten on very special occasions in North Africa. Eating the generous portion certainly felt like a fiesta. Two separate additions to the couscous were served separately and could be added to the taste: firstly, a plate of sweet, plump sultanas with sautéed onions which contrasted perfectly with the second, a small jug of meaty broth which was laced with Harissa. Next up, the Fillet of Hamour came beautifully presented in a neat stack, accompanied by al dente vegetables and a generous serving of creamy mustard sauce. The meaty fish was perfectly seasoned and practically melted in the mouth. It paired well with the buttery sauce which was thick and comforting with a slight tang of lemon and dill. Lastly came Duck Breast a L’Orange, a dish that I can’t remember eating since the early 90s – this is due a revival after sampling Al Dirwandi’s take on it. The sliced, medium rare duck breast and sweet yet slightly acidic orange sauce and orange segments took me back to a time when ingredients were simple and good cooking was key. I finished my meal with traditional Arabic pastries filled with almond paste and dipped in honey; a fitting sweet end to a delicious meal. This is authentic food which has been lovingly composed from the heart. With the launch of the new menu, Al Dirwandi is set to receive the recognition it duly deserves on the Doha dining scene.

Six Senses spa
We took a trip to one of the most prestigious spas in the city. As expected, it didn’t disappoint
s
ix Senses Spa at Sharq Village & Spa is famously known as one of the
most prestigious and most prominent venues to unwind and relax in. Popular by demand amongst expats and locals, it’s no surprise that the spa never disappoints in delivering top treatments with their string of professional therapists. And now with newly appointed Sales and Marketing Manager, Natasha Serner, the spa is not one to lose momentum in delivering new and exciting ideas to new and loyal customers. But for those who have yet to jump on this luxury bandwagon of wellness, the venue is all about putting a stop to stress. With a rustic, yet traditional Qatari ambience, the venue is fully equipped with professional tools, a gym, a relaxation area, sauna, countless spa treatment rooms, cool tubs, a common lounge and so much more. Also, its traditional décor allows the visitor to feel a unique Middle Eastern vibe with a picturesque surrounding offering positive energy all around. But not only that, the spa is also open every day from 6am until 11pm, allowing customers to choose with ease, their visits to this magical place. Having visited Six Senses Spa in the early morning, we were welcomed by their friendly staff and taken to their ladies-only section to change into a comfortable robe. Excited as to what our spa consisted of, our lovely and informative therapist, Marynor, gave us an insight of what a complete Hammam journey was all about. And let us tell you, we are glad we got to experience this journey. This particular treatment is an infusion of Moroccan Hammam with other restorative techniques to bring the skin’s glow back. And without wasting time, we were off with a five-

minute sauna and a cleansing of the body with a tailored black soap and olive oil; also an intense hair shampoo wash with a hair mask was part of the step. After cleaning well, our therapist took us to an all-marble table, where our intense exfoliation of the body began. And when we mean intense, it was pleasantly intense. Using three different scrub techniques with a body mask included, our body was shinier than ever – not to mention smoother and with a glow to it, too. The final step saw the removal of the hair and body mask, which definitely brought some
“Using three different scrub techniques with a body mask included, our body was shinier than ever – not to mention smoother and with a glow to it, too” shine and life back to our dull tresses and skin. After scrubbing away all the dead skin cells, to which our therapist recommended this treatment once a month – we had a final shower. And to seal the entire treatment, a rich moisturiser was applied as a treat. Clean, restored, relaxed and rejuvenated, we were taken to the spa’s relaxation area, where we enjoyed some small bites and tea – a perfect way to end our day. To those who suffer from dull or dry skin, or simply wish to get some problem areas sorted in a healthy way, make sure to visit this spa for a treatment that is nothing short of luxe. Shine Bright Like A Diamond The Morning After
While the city is getting all prepped up and the festivities are in full swing, we just can’t wait to unfold the extent of grandeur and cheerfulness of the season. So ladies, we bring you some splendid tips for you to look gorgeous for those ‘under-themistletoe’ moments, says Pallavi Patil
We recommend a nutritious juice containing beetroot, which is rich in vitamin B and helps reduce headaches. The celery helps alkalise and rehydrate while spinach is rich in B12 and the iron helps to replace that all-important energy. To counteract any skin breakouts, try Clarins’ Pure & Radiant Mask with Alpine herb, Tanaka and coconut which will help draw out impurities in the skin, reducing pore size and the appearance of blemishes and blackheads.
Add Fruits & Vegetables
With many unhealthy temptations during the festive season it’s difficult to stick to a balanced diet. This can sometimes manifest itself in breakouts and blemishes. Fruits and vegetables are rich in fiber, minerals, vitamins and high antioxidants that will make your skin glow and keep your calories in check. Include carrots, gooseberries, lime, spinach and tomatoes in your diet to help you get a glowing skin as they increase collagen production, tone up skin tissues, flush out toxins and bring back luster and sheen.
Tired No More
The first-telltale sign in the skin is lack of radiance, so to ensure you have a glow to rival Rudolph’s nose (ok, maybe not that red…) during the festive 108 www.ohlala-magazine.com

Top tip: soak cotton pads in rose water and allow the pads to rest on your eyes for 15 minutes.

Sachin & Babi are a fashion-design house based in NYC, known for their feminine and unique embroidery. Sachin visited the prestigious Per Lei Couture Doha, where he gave an insight on the brand’s A/W and Bridal 2016 collection
Your fabrics are so peculiar, how does the selection of fabrics begin?
Richard Mille’s New Gem A new lavish gift is available at prestigious watch brand, Richard Mille, showcasing a more feminine side with the RM 07-01 and RM 037 model
The festivities are approaching and what better way to celebrate
than buying a lavish gift for a loved one. Richard Mille, the pioneer of watchmaking adds a unique and powerful model to its legacy with a gem-set NTPT carbon of unsurpassed elegance. With a beautiful contrast between the sparkle of clear diamonds and the matt carbon contour, it gives a glamorous reveal with a slight wrist movement. Also, setting gemstones in NTPT carbon is a new adventure for the brand, which oozes sophistication. And because of its technology of their in-house calibres and their cases adorned with diamonds, both models are particularly balanced with refined jewels.
For any successful brand it is important to know how fabrics work and that will tell you pretty much what they need to be. I’ve spent my life working with textiles, and the process of it all starts right after fashion week, where we select fabric mills and create a relationship with them. What techniques did you experiment with for the A/W 2016 collection? We are currently working for inspiration for fall 2017. I’ve started by showing our team images from Dynasty and actresses wearing all different sorts of gowns. Fashion is so cyclical; you never know where inspiration strikes. We put images together and boards and we put together massive boards, up to 12 boards, we later narrow it down to one, and we narrow where we are heading to in six images. Women today, if you look in all industries, are playing such an important role, so our A/W 2016 is an ode to a strong yet elegant woman. What’s your favourite item from the A/W 2016 collection? A lot of our favourite pieces come from envisioning who would wear it. We had to be so conscious when designing this collection because we wanted to fit all sizes and types of women – my wife calls it real women. Where do you see women moving towards in fashion in the future? Women are dictating at the minute. I was with some elite people at a birthday party and at the end I was left with 12 ladies and we were talking about fashion and I asked: Are you faithful to brands? And unanimously all said: We are faithful to a fit. It’s about specific fits, rather than trends. www.ohlala-magazine.com 113
You presented your A/W16 collection at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Doha, where did you draw inspiration for it? I presented my A/W 2016 and a preview of S/S 2017 collection from Bridal, Couture Dresses and Ready to Wear. Moreover the brand was very excited to launch its casual line women’s wear, AADIMA. My inspiration for the collections was drawn from desert elements and women’s bold attitude in the region, which is a crown they carry with themselves. Also palm leaves, its drapes and structures have always fascinated me since my childhood, also roses were a big part because of its beautiful bloom during winters in the region. And of course, I haven’t deserted my love for “Batoola,” a unique mask of the region for women. I have also taken Spanish traditions and show its boldness, uniqueness, and femininity in its culture. What’s your favourite thing about your participation at MBFW Doha? The Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is a prestigious international title celebrated in different parts of the world, and in the region, I am very happy that happened in Qatar and having been part of it. I can see Qatar moving its steps towards becoming one of the fashion capitals in a near future. What have been some struggles you’ve encountered as a fashion designer in Doha? At the beginning it was very difficult to develop the business, to reach out to the market and people. There was a big gap of community getting involved into buying fashion or custom made and even in the local markets the designs were very limited. It was an obligation to follow the particular repeated styles of traditional format to be Known for its cuts, drapes and its sold in the market. But since Qatar has unique designs, fashion label Gills been growing in its fashion vibes with great Manjulakshmi started its fashion social media outlets, the exposure has been very good. journey in 2008, and it was up until 2013 What are your thoughts on Doha’s fashion that the brand officially made its grand scene? debut onto the fashion scene. The designer In the last few years since 2009, the fashion scene has been growing very gives Ohlala an insight on the brand, fast and designers have been creating what’s to come and the inspiration great influence on the region’s style. I can see entrepreneurs in the market; now Qatar has its own bag designers, fashion stylists, good list of bloggers and the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. What trend or style do you wish would come back? For me fashion is a statement, we are all unique, we have our shapes, heights and gifted features. But nowadays I feel people are choosing a lazy wardrobe and comfort. I wish every woman dressed themselves up with bold attitudes like our celebrated fashionistas of history like Cleopatra and Queen Elizabeth. I would love vintage styles to be back as they always celebrated women’s curves. Who would you dream to collaborate with for your next collection? This time I collaborated with Paris Gallery for the fashion show and next year I am looking forward to be a part of one of the high profile International shows, so just waiting for the time to declare it.

An Animalistic Approach Nouf Abdulaziz Alemadi creator of Peacock Fashion Line took over Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Doha with her colourful brand. We caught up with the designer for a chat on all things fashion
Where did you get inspiration for your latest collection?
Every time I have a peacock reference and its colours, I get inspired. How important was your participation at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Doha? It’s important to access a global market in design, that reflects a Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week standard. What are your thoughts of fashion designers in Qatar? Today the State of Qatar is one of the leading countries to keep up the era of fashion, and now there are many fashion designers creating their own fashion path and plan. What are your future goals as a fashion designer? I’m still in my beginnings, but my goal would be to connect the country’s heritage with the progress of civilizations and time evolution. What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome as a female fashion designer? Our government today is helping small, medium and large facilities by helping them achieve their goals as entrepreneurs. This is what makes the challenges be less than expected, but what I see as a big responsibility and challenge is trying to preserve the identity of CSF (in business) in exchange for my designs that requires developing an International fashion line. Where can we find your designs? You can find us through our Instagram account @ peacockfashiondesigner, our shop at Souq Waqif AlWakra, house number 63, shop 5. Who would you love to collaborate with in future collections? Brands such as Chanel, Balmain, Tom Ford and Stephane Rolland.

Gaining My Identity
Losing your identity along the road can be upsetting. But never knowing who you truly are can be devastating We think we know who we are as a person, as a partner, as a friend and as a human being. But do we actually, really, know who we are? Do we really know what makes us, simply us? As the year is coming to an end, getting to know myself was perhaps one of the most interesting adventures I could take on. I’ve written non-stop about my relationships, how karma took the lead on every man who has done me wrong and other relationship-related adventures. But that is not the point of this column – no, not anymore. This year, I’m closing 2016 with a golden badge; I’ve claimed my own identity. A year ago, I was a girl who knew nothing about self-esteem, had flimsy boundaries with people and knew very little about the kind of woman I was. Having also written non-stop of how I played the victim in every single relationship I was part of, I do have a confession to make: I am guilty of every failed relationship. And here is why: I would allow many to step into my non-existing boundaries, do as they pleased, come and go as they wished and hurt me deep with my own dagger. But sadly, that wasn’t the only case. I was that typical woman who thought her knight in shining armour would come and save me in a white horse. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I quickly learned that the only one, who could actually save me from despair, was myself. But I also learned that those knights in shining armour are just a bunch of idiots wrapped up in aluminum foil. Relationships can be really difficult, especially if you have no idea who you are. So ladies: set goals, set dreams and work hard to get them because the rest will come along. Those who wish to stay in your life will make an extra effort to stay in it, without hesitation. Have no time for foolish behavior that could jeopardise the most important relationship you will ever have, and that is with yourself. Miss Ohlala is excited for 2017… the fiesta is about to go strong! 130 www.ohlala-magazine.com
