Portrayed by three women (Rebecca Longendyke, Felice Noordhoff and Mona Tougaard), each chapter is introduced as a manifesto that details the fundamental vision of femininity. Their words and movements reinforce the Chloé attitudes of sensuality, freedom and grace.

ardens as metaphors. Signposts and signals for lives lived, friendships nurtured, seasons passed. From the walled ‘rooms’ of Sissinghurst to the orchards of Monk’s House and Hubert de Givenchy’s Clos Fiorentina, Clare Waight Keller considers gardens as a tapestry of time and circumstance – a timeless reprise for the Givenchy Haute Couture Spring Summer 2020 collection. Nurturing the spirit of nature’s ephemeral beauty with human hands, a sapphic romance between women and flowers blossoms in cascading petals around the feminine form. As the bright promise of a spring day fades into moon shadow, allusive structures evoke the proud iris, playful pansy and sprays of delicate gypsophila. From micro to macro, the intricate systems of flora oscillate in delicate, pearl-hung circumferences. Hours, days and decades melt away in a love letter from woman to woman, or man to mentor: from Elizabeth to Orlando, Hubert to Cristobal, and far beyond. Budding in the pure whites of camellia and tuberose, pale shades of the White Garden pervade the collection in the soft lustre of silk mikado tailoring, plissé Vichy checks and a verdant symphony of floral garlands. Later marigold, violet, periwinkle and blushing dragée pinks burst forth before the nocturnal allure of shimmering metallics shade from rose gold to brightest silver. Undulating tiered gowns and operatic capes become landscapes for a minutiae of delicate blooms, from vibrant pansy jacquard and dense cloqué to the sunny dégradé of gypsophila embroidery. Tracing the line of a millefeuille ombrelle hat, whorls of petal-shaped volume descend from flounced shoulders or gather in parachute skirts from an empire bust, allowing each flower silhouette its own unique symbiosis of botanical colour and immaculate Haute Couture texture. Pearl drops are suspended ‘en tremblant’, organza filament embroideries sweep the floor, and archive guipure lace shivers into the third dimension. A monochrome finale evokes the shadowplay of moonlight, as Elizabethan macramé and duchesse satin is thrown into sharp relief. 30

Born and raised in Mumbai, Khan grew up in a world surrounded by culture, architecture, art, history and design. As a boy, he cultivated a vast knowledge of textiles under the watchful eyes of his grandfather and father, both of whom designed intricate clothing worn by Indian royal families. Khan ultimately moved to the United States as a teenager to become a designer and launched his career as an apprentice for legendary American designer Halston at the age of 20. During his time with Halston, he immersed himself in the ethos of modern restraint and learned the craft of draping and cutting fabric to create a clean, elegant and timeless silhouette. Khan eventually merged this design philosophy with the knowledge he gained from his family’s business to nurture his own unique style, and the Naeem Khan design aesthetic was born. Khan launched his eponymous collection in 2003 and his collections have adorned glamorous women around the world, including Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift, Rachel McAdams, First Lady Michelle Obama, Queen Noor of Jordan, and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, among others. In 2008, he was inducted as a member of the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America and most recently launched the Naeem Khan Bridal collection in 2013.

he new Panthère ambassador for watchmaking and jewellery is a cosmopolitan woman of the world: the multilingual British actress speaks Portuguese, Spanish and French. Behind her luminous complexion, blue eyes and gentle manner, the Maison discovered a great strength of character, a fearless spirit and a hunger for selfexpression: the soul of a panther, driven and determined to turn convention on its head and get her teeth into something. From her powerful performance in Peaky Blinders to action heroine in The Mummy. The Tudors and The Man Who Would Be Bond, the actress has played a wide range of roles, with 2020 being a year of many more.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. I am a woman, an actress, a philanthropist, a lover, and a queen of mischief. The Panthère is an icon and has been a creative signature for Cartier since her first sighting, spot motifs on a watch in 1914. What does the Panthère mean to you as an individual? To me the Panthère symbolises a ferocity of spirit, the bravery of individualism and the importance of staying true to oneself. When I wear something Panthère it comforts me to be more brave. You’re an advocate for women’s rights which showcase your vitality, commitment and brilliance that define you as a Panthère de Cartier ambassador. How did you feel about entering The Panthère Tribe? First and foremost it’s a great honour. It makes me eager to carry on Cartier’s legacy. More than anything it’s a reminder to lead with good intention, be it in your art, or in your personal life. Lead with your truth and everything else will fall into place The Panthère de Cartier collection is full with a variety of exceptional creations. Do you have a particular favourite gemstone or a preference for a type of gold setting? I have a love affair with all gemstones. At the moment I have a particular penchant for emeralds. The majestic quality of green and gold is so classic and they have such an iconic look when they are combined. We know this is a hard question, but, what is your favourite piece from the Panthère de Cartier collection? Why? I love the Panthère rings with the green emerald eyes. You can wear them everyday and they remain classic, cool and iconic. I also love their emerald encrusted necklaces - they are stunning! How would you describe the woman who wears Panthère de Cartier? The woman who wears Panthère de Cartier is a lover of adventure, her charisma is infectious and she is curious about all aspects of life...and goes out and gets it! PRINCESS FLOWER Like a Venetian Princess, Princess Flower belongs to the creative bouquet of the Princess family of collections. The flower made of small diamonds that decorates other Princess jewels has been reelaborated in this collection to become the focal point of each piece. It was a natural evolution for the ornamental flower to grow until it bloomed. The corolla displays all of its nuances made of gold and precious stones. Malachite, mother-of-pearl and black jade together with gold and diamonds make up the petals of every flower. The characteristic twisted wire detail is also used here once again in the internal structure of the pieces to create a three-dimensional frame that holds the flower. Both the external part of the flower and the internal structure are created with 3D technology to guarantee the perfect proportions of the elements. The façades of the palaces look like precious garments, uniforms that each building wears, shoulders back and head up, for as long as possible, in a sort of never-ending fashion show. The Doge’s Palace is Roberto Coin’s absolute favorite. It was the muse for the family of Princess collections as well as for this one, which was inspired by the geometric shapes on its façade. Together with the four-petal flower, the star feature of Princess Flower, this chiaroscuro geometric decoration made of marble and stone, is the quintessence of Gothic architecture in Venice. In the pieces of the collection, the chiaroscuro is created using black and white diamonds with polished and brushed gold. For the RM 61-01 Ultimate Edition, TZP ceramic yields to Quartz TPT® and Carbon TPT® for the bezel and caseback, with the latter material also featured on the caseband. The many layers of silica-based Quartz TPT®, no more than 45 microns thick, are interlaced with layers of Carbon TPT® as they are stacked by an automatic compiling system that changes the orientation of the fibres by 45° between each layer. With its new Navitimer B03 Chronograph Rattrapante 45, featuring its interpretation of one of watchmaking’s grandest complications, the brand has shown that it remains at innovation’s cutting edge. The Navitimer B03 Chronograph Rattrapante 45 has an 18 k red gold case and is equipped with Breitling’s Manufacture Caliber B03, a unique split-second movement protected by two patents. THE INTRICACY The rattrapante is one of the most sophisticated complications in all of watchmaking. ECHOED LUXURY JENNY GUTTRIDGE sashayed down to THE SPA AT AL JASRA BOUTIQUE HOTEL, amidst the charming views of Souq Waqif, for some well deserved and overdue pampering.
As soon as you walk into The Spa at Al Jasra Boutique Hotel you feel a
wave of tranquillity wash over you. Whether it’s the slightly dimmed lighting in reception or the smell of jasmine in the air from oil burners, I felt immediately relaxed as I sat down to enjoy my welcome drink of lemon, mint and ginger. Ramil, at reception, could not have been more helpful and talked me through the treatment that awaited me and the facilities available in the spa. A locker had already been prepared for me ahead of my appointment, with robe, flip flops, disposable underwear and a top for the treatment. Nothing makes me happier than going to a spa where you don’t need to provide or bring anything with you, they have all bases covered which echoed the luxury that Al Jasra has to offer - come as you are and let them look after you. The spa is relatively small, which is to be expected from a boutique spa hotel, but by no means lacking. The facilities aren’t overcrowded, and the treatment rooms are spacious with the Hammam room being the most impressive. The room makes you feel transported to a Moroccan riad with beautiful decorative tiling and their marble stone table. I was early to the appointment (as there is nothing worse than rushing when you are trying to relax), so I had plenty of time to enjoy the jacuzzi and sauna beforehand. The sauna had fresh towels already laid out inside for you to recline on and the candle lit stairway to the jacuzzi made such a wonderful setting to unwind. My therapist Pann came to find me, soaking away in the jacuzzi, to take me through for my Moroccan Hammam treatment. The bathing ritual lasts for 60 minutes but you come out at the end having lost all track and concept of time – the ultimate goal for relaxing. The treatment started with Pann washing me and pouring warm water all over my body. She then applied the classic hammam black soap, the combination of eucalyptus and spices filled the air and created a sense of calm. The soap is applied to soften the skin before the next step of the treatment, while it was

HEALTH Files soaking my skin, Pann applied a hair treatment which also smelt divine. I was left to relax for ten minutes and I was so comfortable that I nearly fell asleep lying on the marble table, which I did not think would be comfortable at all! When Pann returned, I was again washed with water and then scrubbed with an exfoliating cloth. This helps not only to make your skin smooth and supple, improving the texture but also boosts your circulation and helps to prevent water retention. You can see the dead skin coming off your body which is not the most attractive, but also mesmerising where you can’t bring yourself to look away and feels deeply satisfying. Once the dead skin has been removed your skin is ready to apply products or treatments. Pann applied the clay mask all over my body and again it was left to sink into my skin for ten minutes. While it was soaking, she cleansed my hair and face. The hair products they use are all from Elemis and the conditioner in particular had a beautiful scent to it that felt fresh and clean. Once again, warm water was poured over me whilst lying on the bed. I then stood up and Pann poured pots of water over my head and down my body, which felt amusing but also invigorating. Coming out of the appointment I felt so deeply relaxed but also refreshed. I noticeably had more energy than before the appointment and my skin felt like it had been thoroughly pampered. It was much more thorough than a standard spa exfoliation, it was peaceful yet rejuvenating and I am already looking forward to going back again.

PERSONALISED LUXURY Mandarin Oriental is a brand that has been established as a luxury Asian brand that brings forward a rich and proud history. With its big bang opening in March last year, our local editor Anushay Khan thought it was time to visit this beauty once and for all. “Welcome to Mandarin Oriental, Doha, Mrs. Khan”,
the receptionist welcomed me with the biggest smile of the day. Even before I reached the desk, the bell boy had already introduced himself, took my full name and informed the front desk to greet me with arms wide open. A sense of familiarity set in as I was received by the team in the glamourous Msheireb Downtown Doha setting that this property is set in. With the hotel overlooking the sensational town square, Barahat Msheireb, there is not one window at this place that will not bring you sheer joy. With the skyline peeking from behind, the glorious newly made Msheireb streets that mimic a very urban chic culture of the ‘new’ Doha we are waiting to see and the dynamics of this hotel property itself; I found this hotel to be a breath of fresh air. I am not unaware of the luxury that comes with a name as big as Mandarin Oriental but I still wanted to see what they were offering to the hospitality that I know and love in Doha. From the entrance where the wood painted artwork inspired by Al Thakira Mangroves, the largest and oldest mangrove area in Qatar, is hung, I knew it was going to be a treat to move around here. I love how the key design element here that included the wall, marble floor, carpet, pillars and ceiling relief incorporate a geometric interpretation of sand dunes throughout the hotel. As I took a tour of the hotel, I realized what an epitome of luxury it has become in a short span of time. With the Studio Suite that I was staying in and the Royal Suite that I had the pleasure of visiting, I was in awe of the structural setting of the place. Every carving and even the paintings in this hotel spoke of a unique twist that was given to them. The handmade panels with their shape inspired by the inner courtyards of traditional Qatari homes at the reception give you a taste of what the rest of the hotel holds. My suite presented the top-notch amenities that one can only expect from

Mandarin Oriental. A comfortable room that was split between the living room and bedroom had a separate walk-in closet and a bathroom opulent enough to host a small hot tub party in, I fitted right into the cosy room and unpacked for the weekend. As I had requested a late check-in, I headed straight for the afternoon tea at the Mandarin Lounge. The ornate centrepieces of the hotel had me taking breaks for some Instagram shots and that was just one of the key points of the hotel. The detailing in the interior was notably worthy as I picked up on a few designs that were inspired by the local heritage blended with the Asian culture that Mandarin Oriental . I chose to sit in the open-air terrace of the courtyard, wanting to enjoy and fully immerse myself in the marvellous weather. With the light wind that complemented the sun going down, I was lucky enough to devour the chefs’ skills with an array of delightful savouries and pastries. A wide variety of tea blends had me confused over my options but Chef Celeste won me over with her recommendations and I think I have finally given in to true love as the extravagant tea selection was served. The weather and my company had me lose track of time as I simply sat at the comfortably posh venue, taking in the entire vibe of the hotel. I headed to the spa for a massage and it took me a few seconds to appreciate the simple yet sumptuous interior of the place. A simple chandelier that shone light from the crystals that were embedded on a golden brass circle lit up the entire place as a wall of products served as a background to the entrance. Dragon turtles were decorated at the entrance, which are believed to omit bad omens and keep negative energies out of the room, adding to the Asian myths this hotel’s heritage respects. Well, I certainly needed this type of vibe and couldn’t wait to see the rituals that I would be experiencing. I chose to be spoiled with the Signature Singing Sand Dunes Treatment which promised to be something like I had never experienced before. And I was right on the target. My massage, for the first time, was on a quartz bed, which was surprisingly comfortable, with the treatment starting with Himalayan singing bowls being placed on my spine. A soothing start to the treatment, the singing bowls are known to promote relaxation and offer powerful healing properties. The three hours in this nirvana put me in a daze for the remaining night as I proceeded to my room, not wanting this sensational feeling to go away. In-room dining was my best friend for the night as I snacked on a club sandwich, my forever go-to snack. To say that Mandarin Oriental is in a league of its own when it comes to dining is an understatement. I have already been privy to the spectacular Mosaic numerous times and every time, the chefs make sure I leave even more enchanted than before. You’re lucky enough to view the Barahat Msheireb which is such a sensational view, and if you choose your table right, you’ll be overlooking the Corniche and the Doha skyline too! You can find the local design elements here as well as the cushions at the hotel are inspired by the cushions found in Al Wakra Souq that showcase the country’s pearling heritage with the sea blue colour and lines inspired by pearling nets. IZU, on the other hand, is a deal of its own. A restaurant that takes inspiration from the deck of a show boat, I could see the impact that local surroundings also had with the design, its French Mediterranean cuisine will lure you in with the most scrumptious delights. It gets pretty crowded for dinner time as locals make an advanced booking and don’t blame them at all - the seating right next to the town square and even the indoor interior that reflects Chef Izu’s personal liking of nature and authentic food; this restaurant is an experience one must have. Inspired by the chef ’s journey across Spain, France, England, and the Middle East, you’re going to experience a fusion of delight with the menu of this restaurant. You cannot leave the restaurant without trying the whole roasted chicken, foie gras and truffle sauce! I hear the burrata with cherry tomatoes and basil is also one of the most loved starters here. As for me, I would highly recommend trying their breakfast as well because french toasts have truly never been more true of the whole melt-in-your-mouth mantra. If you think the desserts at the restaurants are something you’d be interested in coming back to, you haven’t even peeked into Gelato then. homemade delicacies are something that certainly won me over. A sucker for cute little cafes, I was welcomed to an adorable little venue to show off the colourful side of desserts, and you absolutely MUST order the nitrogen ice-creamology for a bit of theatre that just adds to the ongoing treat this place is. No hotel is complete with some fun with the bartenders at their lounge. The al-fresco area of Aqua and the completely opposite Ambar with its chill vibes, I couldn’t decide which one I was more attracted to. Both the places have their own thrill and as I enjoyed one of the best drinks of my life at Aqua, Ambar came through as fierce competition, getting an edge over Aqua at this point. Hotel guests casually lounged here as you see the mixologist engaging unobtrusively with everyone. They make drinks according to your taste and I do not believe a girl could ask for more. My weekend at Mandarin Oriental can only be described in one word: exceptional. The staff were super friendly, everyone knew my name by the end of the day, I was greeted by the same team - whether it was their shift or not - and I was made to feel like I truly belonged. Making friends, having some time to enjoy on my own and simply sitting next to the windows that let in the bright Doha sun, my weekend was a complete journey on its own. Sabai Thai, The Westin Doha Hotel & Spa, provides the perfect culinary journey through Asia seamlessly pulling in delights from the Far East to provide diners with a mouth-watering experience. Opening its doors for lunch every day and every evening, the restaurant provides both indoor and covered outdoor seating, catering perfectly for the two seasons we face in Qatar. When we visited the restaurant we were fortunate enough to sit in the beautiful conservatory area, which evokes memories of Thai holidays with authentic décor and precise finishing touches - not to forget the fact that you’ve a surrounding pond full of koi fish around you to amplify the authenticity of Thailand. Sabai Thai offers up a masterful culinary adventure in bountiful amounts. Their menu consists of a wide variety of Chef ’s specials and signature dishes that are served beautifully on vibrant plates at the centre of the table. My friend and I devoured dishes from across the Asian continent, each served separately and presented wonderfully, much to our excitement. A definite haven for those social media snaps! The traditional Vietnamese dishes of Kung Hom Pha (deep-fried prawn rolls with sweet chilli sauce) and the Shrimp Seaweed Wraps with hot sauce began our journey. The Tom Yaam Goong is a perfect example of this as we tucked into their delicious Thai soup that proved incredibly flavoursome and was wonderfully presented in a lime green tagine-style pot. This particular dish added a bit of spice to the palate, with meaty tiger prawns delivering that protein punch. The muddled mocktails and drinks proved as a complementary bonus, again, perfect for the ‘gram as well as indulging your taste buds and thirst. We then found ourselves crossing the border to China for a staple of any Asian menu, Roasted Duck. It’s an all-time favourite for a reason and it’s undoubtedly one of the most popular dishes on the menu. The five-spices marinade, bok choi, duck gravy and pickled ginger provided the perfect accompaniment to the succulent meat. Now, the Gaeng Kung Mung Gorn is perfect for anyone who loves to eat from the ocean, with a kick to boot. There was no surprise that this panang lobster curry dish was listed under the Sabai Thai Special section of the menu, and this is an understatement to say the very least as the sweet mango and asparagus danced amidst the delectable curry sauce. Now, we wouldn’t be fair to our taste buds if we didn’t further indulge in their incredible Nasi Goreng, a must have for any Asian food lovers. The egg yolk spilling over the prawn and satay chicken is the kind of bite which reminds us why good food is so important, it just makes us feel amazing! It’s a well-known fact that there is always room for dessert, anyone who tells you otherwise is telling fibs. When you think of Asian puddings, Mango Sticky Rice, always stands out and Sabai Thai delivers this perfect Khow Niew Mamaung. Their Po Pia Gluay Thod provided a fitting end to a meal served with delicious ice cream, which fits hand-in-hand with the fried banana spring roll, every spoonful leaves you wanting more. The ambience, decor and intricacy of flavours ensures that we’ll definitely be back, and next time we’ll be bringing the whole family!

ell me a little bit about yourself I was born and raised in Sevastopol, South of USSR. I started ballet at the age of six and went to continue my studies at one of the most notable choreographic colleges in the USSR. I stayed there for eight years and started my career in Moscow at “Ballet Moscow� where I danced for 15 years before leaving for Qatar with my family. I love the stage and I love to dance even more but I had some trouble finding performance theatres locally so I changed my profession. In 2015 I graduated from Russian University of Theatre Arts ( GITIS ) after majoring as a teacher of ballet dance. Now I am dancing only for pleasure and professionally teaching kids and adults of classic ballet, how to direct/ choreograph shows and provide master classes for people wishing to teach others ballet. Do you have any theatrical superstitions or rituals? I do not believe in theoretical superstitions and rituals, however, a true ballerina should always look after her appearance and check her pointe shoes before the show Who or what was your biggest influence for ballet? I never had any artists that I could use as my role models but overall the concept of Russian classical ballet naturally influenced my career. One of the outstanding characteristics of a Russian ballerina is her academism of performance, the neatness of her body line, the beauty of her legs, the elegance of the performance to her dance and the fulfillment to her role. From early childhood, we are taught to combine the perfection of technical performance and the emotional expression of the soul. I pass these fundamental concepts to my students in Qatar as well. What is the most important part of a performance for you? Of course every artist is dying to hear the applause of her audience, but for me the most important idea is for the spectator to notice not only the physical aspect of the dance but also get caught by the emotional aura of the performance. When a viewer empathises with the theatrical character, the most wanted reward for us is when the audience sheds a tear in the theatrical room and they leave with a pure and fulfilled feeling of satisfaction.
OHLALA Spotlight Why is ballet such an important part of your life? Ballet, just like classical literature or any other form of art, progresses our civilization to humanity by saving our moral treasures. Art is important for preserving the older generations’ traditions for developing human possibilities and spiritual growth. Art, from century-to-century, is passing on the classical canons that later serve the future society as its guidance. I believe the most fundamental aspect as a teacher is to pass on the aesthetics of the classical ballet that originated in The Royal Palace, existing in accordance with strict regulations, into the rushed everyday routines of our modern world. Girls who practice the art of classical ballet symbolise a little lady who maintains perfect coordination, stable posture and has the ability to represent herself with elegance and dignity. Many, due to this practice, reach great heights of success in their later lives ranging from leading Hollywood stars to royal families that start ballet from an early age. This is a successful self-improving form of art that I am grateful to pass this onto the young generation.

I consider Qatar as my second home country and adore this land. In this modern media age, awash with memorialisation , observance, bacchanal and seemingly a day which honours everything from toilets (19th November) to paper bags (12th July), it is understandable that we may feel a little jaded and lacklustre when it comes to embracing celebrations. However, some should be held aloft and deserve magnification. No more so than Valentine’s Day. Valentine is a figure who had been imprisoned for encouraging practices in Rome and whilst imprisoned cured blindness in a jailer’s daughter, Julia. Supposedly Valentine had sent the first Valentine Card himself, to Julia, celebrating the miracle he had performed. He signed it ‘Your Valentine’. Geoffrey Chaucer then romanticised the meaning of the feast day into its modern and commercial form. A celebration of romantic love, friendship and admiration. We are encouraged to make healthy lifestyle commutations in terms of diet and fitness so why not take an holistic approach and provide a little nourishment for one of the most important influences on our disposition - Friendship . Take the meaning of Valentine’s Day in its purest form and run with it. Send messages highlighting the importance of them in your
life, organise indulgent feasts for a gaggle of your girlies or simply take the time to pick up the phone and reconnect with those friends who are like stars. After all, you may not always see them but you know they are there. Make the most of Galentine’s Day this February – on the unofficial date of the 13th – as a celebration of female friendship, as if you really needed an excuse to pamper your girlies. It is often said that friends are the family we choose and since many of us are not lucky enough to be surrounded by our families during special occasions it seems fitting that we make our chosen ones the focus of our Valentine’s Day messages and predilection. Dance with them, dine with them or devote an hour of unspoilt liberty, free of phones and other distractions. Remind yourselves how you came to be and why you still are, solve the problems of the world or deconstruct, with humour, the minutia, meaningless and mindless that surrounds us. Whatever it is that represents your friendship glorify and aggrandise it on a day dedicated to admiration in many forms. In the great words of Aristotle, “What is a friend? A single soul dwelling inside two bodies.”
