ow would you describe the female that wears Dennis Basso collections? I always say that the world is her shopping avenue. She is international. She is in Doha, Paris, London and New York. She has a wide range of what she likes to see so I feel that this is what is extremely important; to make sure that we always stay current and right on target of what’s happening in the world of fashion because she is seeing

everything today. Now she sees everything online. It’s on the runway and immediately it’s online. She’s a modern woman. 21 High st is poised to be ‘ The ultimate outdoor shopping destination’, so it is no surprise that you’re opening up your first boutique in Doha. Tell us how this partnership with Ali Bin Ali Fashion came to fruition. This is an amazing team. We have a large boutique in Harrods in London which Ali Bin Ali are also part of. Their director worked at Harrods and saw how successful Dennis Basso is over there and one thing led to another, and here we are in this magnificent store! People are more aware of what they are wearing now-adays and where their clothing is sourced. Do you follow a particular ethical approach throughout your portfolio? I have an open mind, I mix it up a bit. I don’t try to stay rigid in one way and I think that’s what’s kept the brand current and modern. I try to be free and young in my thought process. I am from

New York and we are producing our collection in New York in my factory which I am in every day which exemplifies my creative flair. Tell us about the inspiration behind your collections. So I used the inspiration of Lucy Douglas (C.Z Guest), actresses and some of the great women of fashion and style, including the late Grace Kelly and the fabulous Sheikha Moza. Iconic women with great taste. Sheikha Moza is somebody I would love to dress. I have dressed a lot of famous international women and it would be a great pleasure to design something for her one day. These are women who put together fashion effortlessly. Besides making you look good, fashion has to make you feel good. That’s really what I’ve tried to embody. To create that feeling when you put something on you say “Yes! That’s the one!”

“I’ve always loved dressing women, but, it wasn’t until I dressed celebrities that compounded my name out there. We designed the coats for Meryl Streep in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ and we dressed Jennifer Lopez for her latest album cover ‘Dinero’.” You’ve been hailed by both celebrity and private clients for three decades. Inspired by pure glamour, your collections – from fur and evening wear to bridal and accessories – are consistently featured in the media and at red carpet gatherings worldwide. How do you feel about your success? How do you remain grounded? I am very grounded because I take every day like it is a new day. I don’t take anything for granted. I was so excited to come here to Qatar for example. I have this amazing desire to achieve and go further and to constantly be more creative. Either it’s within you or it’s not. I am just as happy having the most delicious snack from a food cart on the street as I can be dining at a five star restaurant. I have a very optimistic approach - the glass is half full not half empty. I think that this has helped me in my whole career. You know, just forging ahead. What has been your biggest challenge since launching your first business back in 1983? To get noticed. I had my very first fashion show and it was at The Regency Hotel, I was a kid back then, trying to figure it all out. I think that was a challenge, getting people to come to my show. We had invited The New York Times thinking that they would never come. The show was about to begin and they had already closed the doors. Suddenly there was a woman who wanted to come in. At this point, the lights were going down, and they said that her name was Angela Teller, and at that time she was the Editor-inChief of fashion at The New York Times. She gave us half a page of editorial. It was such an amazing thing to have

happened. I still think about that and her coming to see the show 36 years later! I’ve always loved dressing women, but, it wasn’t until I dressed celebrities that compounded my name out there. However, the real credibility is when a woman goes out to an event and her friend says to her “What are you wearing?” and then she comes and buys something and someone else comes and buys something … that domino effect is really magic. Why should our lovely readers visit your boutique? What should they expect? I think the best part is that anyone who loves fashion should have no other choice but to come. The collections are new and current and they don’t have to go to Paris or London or New York as it’s right in their own backyard, and how great is that? We’ve brought them the most exciting pieces in the collection. 21 High street is amazing and it will motivate you to shop with us for that special occasion. We are also willing to do special orders and that is something particularly unusual yet unique - A lot of big design houses won’t do that, but we will!

Ulyana Sergeenko brings to Qatar her Spring/Summer 19 Couture collection as well as her latest designs inspired by Qatari heritage to be featured exclusively at the new Galeries Lafayette Doha, the latest destination for fashion lovers in Qatar. ULYANA SERGEENKO Ulyana Sergeenko is Russian designer and collector. Ulyana Sergeenko launched her eponymous fashion house in Moscow in 2011. One year later, after the brand’s first ever Couture show in Paris, Ulyana Sergeenko became the first Russian couturier who has an honor to be the official invited member of the Federation of Haute Couture. How would you describe your style? I think the best thing about my style is I don’t have one. There’s freedom in allowing it to just be undefined. Who is your style icon? There are too many to count. I’m just inspired by the ones you can tell dress for themselves and no one else. What’s your go-to fashion advice? Do YOU like it? Do YOU feel good? Then wear it! What did you learn throughout the design process with Tommy Hilfiger? I’ve learned about what it really takes to make a garment. Even something as simple as a plain white tee takes so much more time, people and energy then you’d think, and every job is crucial. How involved were you in the design process? Every step of the way. I really appreciate how Tommy and his entire team really allowed Law and I to have complete creative freedom. They gave us the support we needed to create our vision, and they executed it perfectly. In designing this collaborative capsule, what was important to you? The most important thing to me is that these clothes feel timeless and whoever puts it on feels powerful and confident. What is a key piece of advice that Tommy gave to you? He didn’t even have to say it, he’s a leader by example. He shows how to have longevity in your career by always staying true to your brand and sharing your knowledge but also never being afraid to reinvent or embrace young voices and creatives to always stay relevant. What was it like shooting the campaign? A dream. Literally, I’ve been dreaming about it and have had the pleasure of watching it come to fruition. What is your first memory of TOMMY HILFIGER? I think Tommy has always been a major iconic figure in pop culture.

OHLALA Boutiques It’s always been there, plus, I’m a 90’s baby. Why did you want to become an actress and singer? I just had a love for it. It brought me joy and became my outlet as a shy kid. If you weren’t an actress and singer, what would you be? A Teacher. What does a typical day in your life look like? That’s the thing, it changes every day. What accomplishment are you most proud of to date? I would say I’m most proud of the positive impact I’ve been able to have on so many people’s lives. What drives you every day? My love for what I do, but also knowing that I’ve built a platform that I know I can use to really make the changes I want to see in the world. How do you express your individuality? Through the Arts and through what I wear. It’s all an extension of myself. What makes you feel empowered? A certain outfit? A motto? Working. I love working and like anybody, I need breaks. But doing what I love every day, that’s empowering. Who inspires you and why? It may sound corny, but my family. Having little nieces and nephews and knowing they are watching is all the inspiration I need. One thing that people are surprised to know about you? I’m still a very shy person. Even though I guess I live a very different life. I’m super introverted and it takes a lot for me to even start small talk with people at parties (that I normally don’t even go to).

EMBRACING JOMO Self Care and Keto Coach ANAHI BROWN talks about her journey embracing ‘JOMO’ and how choosing to miss out can help with full on living.

o. Go. Make. Achieve. Finish. Accomplish. Strive. Start. End… and do it all again. For many of us, this is life as we know it. We wake up and automatically shift from Human Beings to Human Doings as soon as our feet touch the ground, repeating the same process the next day and the next. No wonder so many of us end up burnt out, exhausted and feeling like life is a blur, passing us by. With my own awareness on my overdoing tendencies and inspired by the advice I was dispensing to my clients whenever I see them wither and crash on their own fast-paced and demanding lives, I decided to commit 21 days to JOMO’ing as much as I could to see if this new tendency was as magical as it seemed. The term JOMO ( Joy of Missing Out) started as a response to the infamous Fear of Missing Out or FOMO, which people on Social Media were experiencing when scrolling through and comparing their realities to the highly edited and curated shots they saw. Where FOMO was about self-judgement, comparison and stress, JOMO is about celebrating your choices, authenticity and investing in yourself. As you can imagine, as a Self-Care Coach working on nourishing women back to greatness, I was sold. Now, as a busy mom of two, moving houses and developing her business without extra support with housework, I was sceptical. This was going to be an interesting project for sure. I decided that, in order to truly embrace the spirit of JOMO, I was committing to: • Saying NO whenever I hesitated with a YES. • Decreasing my Social Media consumption, including NOT letting numbers of likes or followers affect me. • Being present with my family. Basically, from skipping some events (and NOT agonising about it) to limiting my time online to only 15 minute intervals four times per day, everything felt quite doable and inoffensive. For some of my clients and friends, who joined my JOMO vibes, their commitments were more about booking a babysitter so they could go out for a date with their partners, leaving the office on time regardless of the pending tasks, and even using a short holiday to re-organise the whole house. Each did JOMO their way. This showed me that, when it came to missing out, we all had our favourite choices. In fact, someone told me how JOMO was precisely what she used to cut her carb-addiction from the root (something I myself have also used) and go back into her ideal nutrition. The lesson was clear: JOMO wasn’t about not deserving to have big, bold and flashy lives (or not being cool enough for them contrary to what you might think at times!), but about choosing the Self-Care and nourishment that can best replenish your needs each time. JOMO is about Self-Awareness and Compassion, about daring to be you and choose the best for you every step of the way. Inside, the finely crafted design integrates uncluttered surfaces and simple lines with carefully curated premium materials to create a luxurious, minimalist, digital cabin. Technical textiles utilising recycled plastics are offered as premium alternatives to leather, such as a Kvadrat wool blend and Dinamica® suedecloth, as well as Eucalyptus and Ultrafabrics™ options. The cabin is designed to be a calm and serene space, ensuring comfortable, healthy and happy occupants, with technologies such as the twin touchscreen Touch Pro Duo system featuring new, faster software, 16-way seat controls, and cabin air ionisation that complement the increased interior space. The footprint is almost identical yet built on Land Rover’s new mixed-material Premium Transverse Architecture, which offers more interior space than before. A longer wheelbase yields 20mm extra rear knee room and an increase in small item stowage – the larger glove box and centre cubby can now fit tablets, handbags and bottles with ease. The luggage space is 10 percent larger (591 litres) as well as much wider, with space increasing to 1,383 litres when the flexible 40:20:40 second-row seats are folded.

The new architecture has been developed for electrification with a 48-volt mild-hybrid available at launch. The mild hybrid powertrain is a first for Land Rover and works by harvesting energy normally lost during deceleration thanks to the engine-mounted belt-integrated starter generator, storing it in the under-floor battery. At speeds below 17km/h (11mph), the engine will shut off while the driver applies the brakes. When pulling away, the stored energy is redeployed to assist the engine under acceleration and reduce fuel consumption. The result is a refined, quiet and efficient drive in built-up traffic heavy areas, in addition to efficiency savings. Available across the range of four-cylinder Ingenium petrol, the mild hybrid delivers CO2 emissions from as low as 149g/km and fuel economy from 50.4mpg (5.6l/100km) (based on NEDC Equivalent test procedure).

The famed Range Rover command driving position has jumped into the digital age, with a segment-first ‘Clear Sight rear-view mirror’ that transforms into an HD video screen. If rear visibility is compromised by passengers or bulky items, the driver simply flicks a switch on the underside of the mirror and a camera feed from the top of the car displays what is behind the vehicle in crisp high definition. The screen provides a wider (50-degree) field of vision and superior visibility in low light. The new Range Rover Evoque is also the first in the world to feature Ground View technology, which effectively makes the bonnet invisible by projecting camera imagery onto the upper touchscreen to show the driver a 180-degree view under the front of the vehicle. This is useful when negotiating difficult parking spaces, navigating high city centre kerbs or tackling rough terrain, and is the realisation of the Transparent Bonnet technology previewed by Land Rover in 2014. The Evoque is the first Land Rover vehicle with ‘Smart Settings’, which uses artificial intelligence algorithms to learn the driver’s preference and acts as an on-board butler. In addition to seat position, music and climate settings, Evoque can also control steering column preferences to maximise comfort.

REGIONAL Escapes The iconic hanging blue lanterns of W Doha,

that serve as the hotel’s trademark, have always been my favourite. From the majestic décor of the lobby to the welcoming sofa themes, it’s a treat to walk into this hotel at any given hour of the day! The comfortable feeling of having a luxury home sets right in when you’re here to spend a night. I was received at the reception and checked-in within minutes (who doesn’t like some a swift check-in?) and then, the real journey began.

THE WOW SUITE For the weekend, I was the glorious Queen of the Wow Suite. With a lounge big enough to have a party, I was absolutely thrilled at the jackpot that I had hit with this place. I had my very own study table (where I’m actually typing this!) with the most magnificent view of the sea – a treat to actually work from here. The lounge had a hanging cane swing chair facing towards the view and I do not remember being at peace this way, while I read a book, for such a long time; a picturesque moment I believe all of us book worms dream about. The living room was decorated with a fringe ceiling canopy, giving it a very lavish look to the interior of the suite. The floor-to-ceiling windows, the amenities, every little thing counts. The bedroom is nothing short of regal with a touch of modernity. Honestly, it is like one walked into a movie where you were headlining the best show ever. W Doha, for me, takes the award home due to their attention to detail. From the little things from a nail kit to the essentials like a hairbrush, I found everything ready for me, with the cheekiest packaging that I loved, right in this suite. Even though the location of the hotel is prime and right in the middle of West Bay, I never felt the need to run out and grab the necessities for the stay. All in all, my suite was a sweet little package from a match made in staycation heaven! ‘WOW’ is indeed the appropriate word for this masterpiece.

THE RESIDENCES As I was taking a tour of the hotel, I absolutely loved the different options they have for their Residences at the hotel. The choices of property vary from ‘Witty’, ‘Warm’ and ‘Wonderful’, further embodying the cheeky concept that W Doha is home too. I indulged myself with the Oxycryo Facial and I finally got to experience the worldly popular phrase ‘glow up!’. I was managed by Samia who talked me through what to expect during my upcoming one-hour session. The treatment started with Samia analyzing my skin and telling me about the points that needed to be looked after. We spoke of hydration, the elasticity of the skin and the type of treatment that would be suitable for me at that time. My exfoliating treatment included cleansing with milk, enzyme peel, a pore mask, and scaling through the Oxycryo machine. The machine basically blows cold oxygen on your face which encourages collagen regrowth. My skin came out glowing, smoother than ever and absolutely bacteria free. Since my skin needed hydration, Samia infused a selection of vitamins to balance my skin followed by another mask for brightening and nourishment. There are just so many options to choose from and so many great areas to pick that it ,can be quite the dilemma in knowing where to stay. The Corinthia London in Whitehall Place is the perfect choice and captures both style and substance for its guests. Built in the late nineteenth century and situated at the end of Northumberland Avenue directly across the Thames and from the London Eye, this hotel is the perfect location to discover all of this vibrant city. Everything is well within reach with Oxford and Regent Streets just a short walk away and and even shorter walk to Trafalgar Square and The National Gallery. Whilst staying here, all the must-visit spots are literally on your doorstep yet inside the hotel you feel relaxed and a world away from all the hustle and bustle of the busy city. While the hotel is truly opulent, it also manages to mix elegance and character giving off the vibe of a stylish boutique hotel with both warmth and history. The Corinthia’s 294 rooms, including 40 suites and seven two-storey penthouses, are decorated in gorgeous, contemporary hues with high ceilings and large windows and are simply some of the smartest looking hotel rooms we’ve seen. There is so much attention to detail put into the rooms and the décor; we especially love the small touches. The rooms are tastefully styled in warm tones mixed with bold hints and provide the perfect balance between the history of the hotel and the modern feel of today. Space is abundant in even the smallest room which is a novelty for a London hotel. The marble bathrooms are a real feature of the hotel and are spacious and luxurious with a built-in TV at the foot of the bath and high-end ESPA branded toiletries are replenished daily. There is also a huge rain shower, and heated floor and towel rack for the chillier months. This is the perfect place to rejuvenate and to take a long hot bath after walking around the city all day. It’s hard to resist the charms of an awardwinning, all-inclusive Maldivian resort, with its rustic-chic style beach villas, its serene ambience and impeccable service. The island is lush with tropical vegetation, spreading idyllically along a hypnotic 2km-long turquoise lagoon. If you’re looking for a total hassle-free, five-star experience, Kanifushi Island is pretty much your proverbial paradise isle, as Marisela Paesano discovers… LOCATION The Maldives is situated in the Indian Ocean some 400 miles southwest of the southern tip of the Indian subcontinent, making it relatively short flight of less than five hours from Doha. Qatar Airways has two daily non-stop flights from Doha to Male; a red-eye departing shortly after midnight and a daylight flight departing early morning. We were greeted by Atmosphere Kanifushi Island staff at Male airport and taken for light refreshments at the property’s arrival lounge, while you wait for your sea plane ride. The coral atolls of the Maldives are scattered across the Indian Ocean, just north of the equator. The Kanifushi Island is just 30-minutes scenic flight from the Malé International Airport via Sea Plane with Trans Maldivian Airlines (a return transfer is US$490, including taxes). On arrival to the Island, we had a very warm welcome filled with music and lots of smiles by Atmosphere Kanifushi’s staff members.

BEACHFRONT VILLAS Imagine rustic-chic style Beach Villas with a direct access to the silky white-sand blue lagoon and surrounded by coconut trees and lush tropical vegetation. The entire resort is built with natural materials, timber, granite and stone, the resort style is the perfect fusion between traditional and modern architecture. We checked into the lavish Sunset Junior Suite with direct beach access and sunrise views. There’s too much to take in, but we were specially blown away by the open-air bathroom which takes up the space of an entire garden, the 84

huge whirlpool bathtub was stunning and tropical plants line the walls of this heavenly space. Our next favourite area is the private deck which leads right onto the beach. Sun loungers have got our names written all over them – we spent so much time here relaxing and topping up the tan. Inside, it’s very spacious, you have plenty of storage room, a comfortable king size bed as well as a beautiful sofa to lounge on. However, the standouts of this room were in the little details. These included an array of high-tech toys and gourmet treats. The mini bar is replenishing twice a day and you have your own personal room boy that will make sure you get everything you need to make your experience even better.

SERVICE AND FACILITIES The service is faultless. Guests have their own room boy to look after them throughout their stay, and the rest of the staff will soon feel like old friends. Facilities include the Akiri Spa by Mandara, Dive and Sail center, Kids Club, Club House and five amazing restaurants to dine in! Daily snorkeling trips, excursions and adventures are also available upon request.

FOOD AND DRINK Just because you are in the Maldives, at a 5-star resort in one of the most secluded spots in the Indian Ocean, doesn’t mean that the gastronomy is slacking. Its very much the opposite at Atmosphere Kanifushi, where the food game is so STRONG. World cuisine is represented through the resort’s five dining outlets. THE SPICE The main restaurant on the island serves a wide variety of international cuisine, buffet style and live cooking stations are available here. The spectacular beach-side breakfast buffet caters to all tastes with American, Asian Continental and local Maldivian specialties include ‘Mas huni’ (tuna with onion, coconut and chilli), or ‘Faro Mas Riha’ (a spicy reef-fish curry). The breakfast is a delectable spread. Flaky pastries, tantalizing egg dishes, cereal bar, fresh fruit counter, healthy juices and so much more. They also serve lunch and various themed evenings such us Indian Ocean Night; a Culinary Journey featuring virtuoso cooking displays from around the Indian Ocean. The Passage to India soirée is a fabulously exotic buffet-banquet of curries, tandoors and dosai, with steamy cooking stations. The restaurant has a beautiful terrace that overlooks the beach. From the extensive breakfast buffet for lunch and dinner, The Spice is infinitely beachside indulgence at its best.

TEPPANYAKI GRILL At the resort’s Japanese restaurant, by the sea, chefs conjure up outstanding sushi, sashimi and Japanese fusion dishes. The show of Teppanyaki griddle cooking in the open kitchen is pure theatre. An authentic Teppanyaki experience, where you can enjoy a delectable dinner.

SNORKELING TRIPS What lies beneath the surface? Go deeper into the mysteries and secrets of the Indian Ocean. Immerse yourself in the house reef and speedboat to spectacular sites. On our morning ride out to sea, our instructor and the boat’s captain go over safety procedures and reassure us that this is going to be one of the most amazing experiences of our lives. Little did we know how true this was until hopping over the edge of the boat and starting our soothing snorkel session. We spot intricate bouquet of coral and groups of colourful fish.

THE LIQUID The main bar of the resort serves an array of exotic mocktails and cocktails. Strategically located next to the pool, it is probably one of the most favored locations on the island, to unwind and absorb the stress-free Maldivian environment.

THE SUNSET One of our favourite spots on the island, the bar - restaurant has an infinity pool that offers a stunning view of the turquoise lagoon. You can enjoy a la carte lunch or dinner, the menu offers a specialty fusion cuisine, showcasing Asian and Mediterranean dishes. The bar has a relaxed atmosphere where you can definitely feel you landed in paradise.

SUNSET CRUISE Possibly one of the best excursions we embarked on at Atmosphere Kanifushi. Get ready for and unforgettable evening. They attentive staff had some canapes ready for the trip alongside with expert staff who will keep an eye out for the dolphins at sea. You will sail the blue water all while watching the dramatic sunset and how the Maldives does day to night. It’s a spectacular view that you will definitely want to capture on camera.

WATER SPORTS Now, when we say that Atmosphere Kanifushi is a haven for on-water activities, we are not exaggerating. You name it and they have got it! Lucas Raven unveils the unexpected from the highly anticipated Turkish Airlines route directing us to the magical Finnish Lapland through Rovaniemi. Rovaniemi, the capital of the Finnish Lapland is an urban oasis amidst the Arctic wilderness, where culture, wild activities and fairy tales come together. Home to an eclectic – and unusual – array of museums. Some offer the opportunity to belt out a karaoke tune, others to shoot a digitised moose. Culture thrives in many mediums in the city; they even have their own chamber orchestra. The Arctic Circle runs through the southern end of Lapland; I journeyed along its axis, to the city of Rovaniemi with a population of 60,000, reindeer not included, making it the largest population hub near the Arctic Circle. It’s no wonder that Santa himself has chosen the city as the location of his post office. Beyond Mr. Claus and Rudolf, Rovaniemi contains several other noteworthy cultural treasures. Along the river and around the city are 70 lean-to shelters that can be freely used by those who want to roast sausages and marshmallows over an open fire or enjoy other outdoor snacks. Firewood is even state-provided. Yep, for real. The river landscape is dominated by Jätkänkynttilä Bridge; it’s an impressive sight, especially when illuminated at night. The route will be operated three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Turkish Airlines will be the first airline to offer seats on business class to Rovaniemi. Flight tickets will be available soon. Turkish Airlines’ direct flight route from Istanbul to Rovaniemi, Finland, is now confirmed for the season 2019-2020. he entire experience of a visit to La Mar by Gastón Acurio is sublime. Every aspect of the restaurant is deeply considered from the look and feel of the aesthetics to the menu they serve through to the highly trained staff who wait upon you. La Mar has restaurants in various cities but now Doha has added itself to that illustrious list. The site of the restaurant was built from scratch to a specification that chef, Gastón Acurio himself, the man behind La Mar, would approve of. We entered through a heavy wooden door into a bright and airy atrium where the maître-d welcomed and escorted us to a table. Diners have the choice of sitting inside or out and while neither is necessarily better than the other, the option to dine al fresco definitely got our vote especially because the temperature permitted when we visited. Their acoustic band further provided an additional atmospheric backdrop alongside the tranquil beach view. That won’t be possible in the peak of summer but the floor-to-ceiling glass window frames let in plenty of light to the classy and modern dining room with high ceilings and minimalist décor to cater for the experience that is La Mar all year round. The great benefit of an outdoor table was the feeling of being ostensibly on the beach. The view is stunning with the calm waves calmly meeting the shore and the architectural majesty of the iconic skyline in the far distance. 88

Peruvian cuisine is fast developing a niche chic in the food world but there is no other competitor for it in Qatar offering an exclusively Peruvian menu. The brunch we went to was an excellent way to explore much of what they have to offer as a chef ’s set menu is presented with a kind of ‘greatest hits’ of the main a-la-carte menu sent out. We had a selection of appetizers and a couple of hot starters, a couple of entrees and a couple of desserts to share. The Nikkei ceviche is incredibly fresh and tastes divine. It’s a tuna tartare with avocado mousse, nori seaweed, wasabi tobiko and rocoto cream. Another cold starter allows a pallet gorge. Called mixto, it comprises the combination of the catch of the day with calamari, shrimp and octopus in rocoto leche de tigre. The back of the mouth is singing in flavour. Sensational seafood sushi rolls also add to the smorgasbord. Indeed, it is that sharing mentality that is the Latin American way and I rather liked the table brimming with a multitude of different things to dip in and try. My favourite appetizer awakened the pallet from any slumber it had been in. The chalaco is such an excellent slider of sumptuousness; fresh catch of the day, shrimp in rocoto leche de tigre with crispy calamari, choclo and sweet potatoes which reappear in numerous dishes across the menu. There are things at this brunch that are just not offered on the daily a-la-carte menu so we really ‘lucked out’ with this. The sushi is a brunch special and so are the miniature fish burger sliders and empanadas. Two mains are then placed on the table. The pollo which translates as chicken. On the dish are two anticuchera chicken thighs, sweet potatoes, buttered corn and chalaca. There is a bit of a kick to the chicken that gives it some spice and heat. The other main dish on the table is the meat eaters dream. It’s called Carne which quite literally means meat. We’re talking anticuchera tenderloin with chimichurri potatoes, buttered corn, carretillero sauce and chalaca.

Rather than two hefty desserts to work through at the end of the afternoon, two delicate pots are presented with light sweets to perfectly polish off the set menu. One was a lime cream, lime mousse, almond crumble with meringue and lime sorbet. In the other pot was a dulce de leche foam, vanilla ice cream, berries and crispy meringue. It was impossible to fault anything on the menu and the food was just so different to anything you can eat anywhere else around. The staff are exceptionally well trained and at a far higher level than most others in the five-star restaurant category. They are knowledgeable about the food they serve, attentive to customers and friendly too. La Mar proved to exactly why it is multiple award winning. It’s a very special place to visit. Even the majority of news and literature is accessed through digital medium. There comes a point where we have to strip this down and focus our behaviour in a different way. For many people it’s far easier to be generous with money than time or affection. We neglect relationships or become too focussed on our own aspirations and needs. I and me take president over you and us. So perhaps it’s time we all did an audit of our conduct . Do you take time to listen to people that matter? Do you prefer to stare at a screen rather than your partner or loved ones ? Is checking Facebook your first thought as you wake up? What proportion of your life is spent helping someone else ? Has what you have become more important than who you are ?
