A new season is upon us and the last (slightly longer) summer days are ending. From September 22 onwards, the leaves should change their colours and start to fall. In reality, the landscape won’t change much in this part of the globe and temperatures will still be high. However, there are new styles in the air and we bring OHLALA ’s highly anticipated Autumn and Winter (AW) 2022/2023 Trends Report. Look for staple pieces to keep, dig back from the bottom of your wardrobe or purchase. Beauty enthusiasts will love to explore the new products we selected and the AW 2022/2023 beauty trends from the catwalks. This month, we indulged in a full body treatment at the Spa InterContinental at InterContinental Doha Beach & Spa. It’s also that time of the year when we announce the nominees for the OHLALA Spa & Wellness Awards Qatar 2022. Make sure to check if your favourite beauty spot is listed and don’t forget to vote!

WINTERSPELL

A new season is here – at least in the fashion world. The sun will still shine brightly outside for a while in this region, keeping the temperatures high, but that doesn’t mean we can’t embrace the autumn and winter collections out there. We selected the styles and pieces we absolutely love for a great start to our AW 2022/2023 report.

As usual, the keyword during the cold months is: layering! DSQUARED2 brought interesting compositions to their catwalk show. A modern grunge kind of concept that can serve as inspiration for unique and creative looks. We are living in a time that’s embracing mismatching items – be they socks or shoes. Most of the time, they are similar with slight differences. We have our eyes on these earrings from Tory Burch; they are a subtle way to introduce this trend into your looks. Scarves are a good way to add warmth and a sophisticated touch to your outfits. We chose a cute piece from Celine that shows you can have some fun while looking sharp. A style that we are looking forward to wearing is a knitted version of the sweater dress. An oversized jumper or cardigan to be worn with tights and knee-high boots. This grey number is from Malo Talking about knee-high boots, these Max Mara ones look incredibly comfortable. The ‘neck’ of the boot is made with knitted fabric which hugs the leg for warmth without the discomfort other materials can cause. They are also a gorgeous add-on to a laid-back outfit.

We are waving goodbye to summer styles, but flower motifs are timeless and a great way to add vibrancy to your autumn and winter outfits. This Weekend Max Mara jumpsuit is a great choice to make this pattern the centre of your looks.

5. Paul Smith brings a buoyant take on the pattern in this elegant blazer.

6. Looking for a refreshing way to wear this popular print? Zoey Deutch opted for a top and skirt with the same pattern but in contrasting colours. The look is from Carolina Herrera Resort 2023 collection.

4. Double the floral concept with accessories with the same motif. You can go big with eye-catching headpieces or subtle with this Chopard bracelet.

2. This KENZO long-sleeved top proves that even casual pieces look their best in a floral version. The different tones of blue that compose the pattern are the cool trick here.

1. Floral prints don’t have to be colourful. This CH Carolina Herrera look shows that you can embrace the motif in black and white.

Pink And Posh Going Dotty Manolo Blahnik and Birkenstock have come together once again to create a one-of-akind footwear collection, merging craftsmanship with functionality and glamour with practicality. The first drop embraced velvet and diamanté detailing and was an instant hit with most styles and sizes flying off the virtual shelves within hours of arriving. The second instalment focuses on Birkenstock’s classic Arizonas and Bostons, rendered in monochrome polka dots and minimalist PVC. Always innovating, Manolo first presented PVC styles with a barely-there look in the early 1970s. This long fascination with lightness led him to design versatile see-through editions of the classic Birkenstock Arizona sandal. The timeless polka dots motif is reminiscent of Manolo’s home country, holding special relevance as the quintessential Spanish print featured on the bata de cola, the long trailing dress of flamenco. In homage to this, Manolo covered the Birkenstock Boston and Arizona in contrasting black and white polka dots, in supple leather and tactile calf hair.

What have Barbie and Balmain got in common? A special limited-edition capsule collaboration, that’s what. Playing on the former’s signature colour, pink, Balmain’s Creative Director Olivier Rousteing designed the collection’s palette to evolve from the softest blushes to a host of stronger tones. He and the Balmain design team were inspired by the Barbie universe’s familiar bright iconography. Badges, tees and hoodies cleverly channel the bold graphic treatment that one immediately recognises as Barbie’s and many of the accessories are inventive hybrids of Balmain’s signature bags and Barbie packaging. Much of this limited-edition ensemble plays with new spins on familiar Balmain signatures, including the house’s iconic marinière striped sailor print and its mesmerising Labyrinth pattern. If you thought pink was only for girls, think again! Olivier is clear that the collection is almost 100% unisex.

Designed by Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele, adidas x Gucci merges the emblems of the fashion house with those of the iconic sportswear brand. The collection was highlighted during the Exquisite Gucci Autumn and Winter 2022/2023 fashion show in Milan. It features the classic, athleisure silhouettes commonly associated with the iconic sportswear brand, as well as unconventional colour play and patterns quintessential to the Italian luxury house. You can choose from a selection of bomber and zipper jackets, skirts, shorts, polo tees, dresses, shirts and trousers as well as accessories such as bags, hats, baseball caps, bracelets, belts and shoes. Throughout the collection, you will see the merging of both brands’ codes; adidas’ trademark stripes have been added to suits, the brand’s famous trefoil is merged with the Gucci logo on baseball caps. Further, the emblematic adidas Gazelle shoe is reworked through Alessandro’s creative vision.

Though we understand the prices for the products are not yet confirmed, there are rumours that the tea will be sold at about USD25. TALEFROSTJACK

It is a fact that the cold season in this part of the world comes shy and doesn’t stay for too long. However, that doesn’t mean a long coat shouldn’t make its way into your wardrobe. Long styles draw attention to the ankles, where they should finish, and elongate the silhouette – which is reason enough to own one! You can opt for a lightweight piece if you can’t endure the warmth of thicker options.

Fabergé has introduced a new variation of its award-winning Compliquée Peacock watch. Inspired by beautiful peacock feathers, these masterpieces of wearable art are what you need to add to your ensemble.

www.ohlalamag.net43

Fabergé has always partnered with the finest craftspeople, in all areas of expertise, to deliver creations which capture the spirit of the brand’s past, present and future. Martinez has previously created unique hand-painted dials for the Fabergé Altruist Wilderness watches.

M ade in partnership with work master Jean-Marc Wiederrecht of Agenhor, which specialises in the creation of complex watch mechanisms, and Master Craftsman André Martinez, an expert in miniaturist artistic painting on watch dials, the new timepieces follow the luxury watchmaker’s success at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2015, in which the Compliquée Peacock won the High-Mechanical award. Limited to 10 numbered pieces of each design – coloured and monochrome – the watch dials are unique and feature abstract art.

@officialfaberge

The new Compliquée Peacock Arte hand-etched white gold watches are true collectors’ pieces. The dials are engraved by a technique known as eauforte or etching, an intaglio print-making process dating back to the 16th century, in which an image or design is incised onto a plate using acid. Traditionally, this would be a metal plate; however, Martinez has expertly applied this technique to mother-of-pearl to create a unique appearance. This wearable piece of art is available in two colourways. On the dial, the bottom of the etched section is painted with Martinez’s lacquers in gradations of colour and then covered with a transparent lacquer to obtain a flat and taut rendering. The bold feather pattern is entirely hand-painted, which makes each piece totally unique. The same technique is applied to the monochrome dial, but here the etchings are filled with a mixture developed by Martinez, which is mainly ‘encre de Chine’ (Chinese ink) mixed with another component to prevent cracking during the drying process. This special technique also renders the watch water-resistant –the ink doesn’t dissolve in water.

Befitting a queen, Iris Malika is a new fragrance by Chopard and the first of a new collection named Chopard IMPERIALE.

OPULENT ORIGINS

48 www.ohlalamag.net BEAUTY Focus

M alika means queen in Arabic, and it is to today’s aspirational women that this new creation pays tribute. Like all Chopard fragrances, Iris Malika was inspired by the maison’s jewellery creations and is the olfactory counterpart of the IMPERIALE Collection, voluptuous jewellery created for women – contemporary empresses – who own their power. Amethyst plays the leading role in this precious anthology. Like the violet hued quartz, which has magnetic powers, Iris Malika possesses an element of mystery. The magic happens both inside the bottle and outside it when the fragrance finds its place on the skin or becomes a delicate trail.

This perfume is the quintessence of two cultures coming together in total harmony: France’s tradition of fine fragrances, of which it is the worthy heir, and the high-end scents of the Middle East. The creator of this opus, perfumer Dora Baghriche grew up in Algiers, at the heart of the dual ArabMoorish and French traditions, and she carries these two worlds within her. Chopard Co-President Caroline Scheufele asked Dora Baghriche to create a purple iris. The latter was free to interpret this as she wished and selected the root of the iris flower and tonka bean. “I like the interaction that the two materials can have,” she explains. “There is a root and a bean. I wanted to start with something powerful, earthy. The bean harks back to Eve, the original woman, the queen of the world. That’s the idea of this perfume. In olfactive terms, iris is very woody, with a slightly buttery, harsh smell. It is not an easy scent to tame. Neither is the tonka bean, with its silky tobacco notes. It has a little more character than vanilla, with an element of almond.” The iris was the symbol of victory for the kings of France and under Louis VII, it became the ‘Fleur de Louis’, then over time, the ‘Fleur de Luce’ and finally the ‘Fleur de Lys’, symbol of royalty.

Scent Of A Woman

BENEVOLENT BEAUTY Caroline Scheufele is a pioneer in sustainable luxury. The first to advocate ethical and responsible jewellery, she believes beauty must be equally ethical. Chopard has applied the same philosophy to its perfumes, embarking on a wonderful undertaking entitled A Journey to Sustainable Luxury Perfumery. To create her fragrances, the co-president decided to work with Firmenich, the world’s leading non-listed perfume and taste company. “Firmenich is one of the most prominent maisons that has chosen to use ethically sourced flowers, plants and woods” says Caroline. “Alberto Morillas and Dora Baghriche, the perfumers with whom I have chosen to develop our fragrances, work with them. I am also well acquainted with the owners, so this is very much a story of mutual trust.”

ince 1828, Guerlain has explored, innovated and perfected its fragrance, skincare and make-up with nature and art as inspirations and a culture of beauty as its signature. This longawaited collection comprises three creations: Noir G, a deep black mascara pushing volume and curl intensity to the max; and Ombres G, a highly pigmented eyeshadow quartet available in six harmonies. Accompanying the capsule are five eye pencils, boasting a creamy, longhold and waterproof texture.

Adding the final touch is a selection of pencils. Packaged in shiny black with a subtle ring indicating the shade, each pencil has a retractable lead stick and comes with a sharpener. They’re available in five intense colours: Black Ebony, Brown Earth, Jungle Green, Night Blue and Plum Peony.

The Ombres G four-colour eyeshadows have a unique texture made up of intense pigments for long-lasting colour and unequalled depth. They adorn the eyes with four different finishes: an intense satin, a deep matte, a luminous metallic and a radiant iridescent effect. Developed with care, the formula based on soft and comfortable winter rose oil offers an extremely sensory feel. The shadow glides easily over the lid and can be worked as desired to create a host of effects. The three star harmonies include: N°360 Mystic Peacock, a combination of different shades of blue borrowed from the sumptuous gradation of peacock feathers, set off by the glint of coppery shades; N°555 Metal Butterfly, featuring the captivating metallic accents of butterfly wings in tones of gold, pink, orange and brown; and N°530 Majestic Rose, which has all the facets of a delicate rose petal interpreted in irresistibly soft shades of pink, plum and brown. Three other quartets complete this original colour selection: N°214 Exotic Orchid has shades ranging from burgundy to gold; N°940 Royal Jungle features majestic tawny shades; and N°011 Imperial Moon offers a sophisticated smoky effect, in which black and silver merge and gleam like a moonbeam.

Colourful Quartets

Lush Lashes Noir G creates an intense, vibrant finish for lashes that flutter like butterfly wings. Thanks to its curved brush that hugs the lash shape to perfection, it offers exceptional volume and a dizzying curl, with 24-hour wear. An exclusive combination of ebony and midnight blue pigments creates a blacker than black shade which is enriched with winter rose oil for a perfect glide and lashes that are smooth and long in equal measure.

ALL EYES ON YOU

hile every person has a unique aesthetic, it helps to draw inspiration from the Fashion Week catwalks. In this feature, we present our favourite make-up and hair style trends spotted on the Autumn and Winter 2022/2023 runways. We also speak to experts who share their take on how to adapt these ideas for your daily looks.

Earthy tones such as warm greens, golden yellows and browns and orangey reds are the colours for this season – intense, rich and warm. One make-up trend that goes perfectly with this vibe is the smoky eye. While the look is most ideal for the evening, you can get away with a softer smoky eye during the day by swapping black with brown or grey. Spotted at Bora Aksu during London Fashion Week was the lived-in smoky eye. If you’re a make-up novice, lived-in means creating an illusion of the product having been on for a while. It’s achieved by smudging the product, which offers a more intense result. Zuhair Murad featured a sultry, smoky eye: nudes all over the eyes to add subtle depth and definition, nude onto the centre of the lids for an eye-widening effect and a soft brown wing, smudging the edges for a smoky, blown-out line. Make-up artist Maria Zhang says: “Smoky eyes are one of those staple looks that will always remain trending, in my opinion. I love using brown or even copper cream shadow sticks during the day for a quick and subtle day variation and pop on some darker tones to transition it into a night look.”

Many recurring trends from Spring and Summer 2022 were seen such as blue eye make-up. It ruled New York fashion week: blue liner layered on top of black at Christian Siriano and powder-blue pigment swept across the lids at Kim Shui. Blue works hand-in-glove with the earthy colours that dominate the autumn season. Maria believes that while deeper shades suit the seasonal vibe of less prints and darker hued clothing, you can continue playing with bright, trendy colours for a pop of fun, especially if you’re wearing plain, black outfits.

“Some ways to adapt the jewel incrusted eye trend for a daily look are to add individual rhinestones in the corner of the eyes or on the face,” she says. “You can even wear it as a liner or play around with some bold shapes for the more daring individuals.”

HAIR TODAY, GONE TOMORROW Hairstylist Ghaida Hazeem says: “For haircuts, we’re going to see more bangs, layered ‘70s style. I feel the styles of the 1970s are coming back, those blow outs and cuts with layers. We’re also seeing a lot of women embracing their natural hair texture. They’re working with what they have. Let’s say they’re going to do a messy bun or a half up half down bun with their natural hair.”

While some may debate on the practicality of the jewel encrusted trend, as seen at Burberry and Simone Rocha, for a day-to-day style, Maria believes otherwise.

BEJEWELLED BEAUTY Shimmery metallics were prominent on the runways. You can dress this trend up or down, depending on your comfort level. Make-up artist Peter Philips placed spots of silver on the inner corners of the eyes at Dior. On the other hand, Gucci had selected models sporting shockingly bright metallic eyeshadow, applied in a messy rectangular shape. Maria shares her top three ways to play with shimmery metallics: applying a metallic eye shadow all over your eyelid; using the same product as an eyeliner; and changing the tones of your highlighter to icy blue or holographic from the usual golds, soft golds, peach and pink.

Damp and drenched hair was also a recurring trend. Ghaida feels this is more of a night look and can be adapted for this season by styling your hair as wet, shiny and sleek but straight – no curls or beachy waves.

www.ohlalamag.net57

Braids of all kinds featured on the runways from the long-braided ponytail at The Blonds to the baby braids featured at Brandon Maxwell in New York. Baby braids means tying only a part of your hair in braids: tiny strands on either side of your face to create tendrils or the braid going horizontally across like a hairband or incorporating braids in the half-up-half-down style. At Dior, Dutch braids at the top of the head were accessorised with a hairband. Ghaida believes this look offers femininity and some strength and will be very much in vogue this season. Another braid style she recommends is a sleek, messy one as seen at Tory Burch and Roberta Einer. Part your hair at the centre or side, tie a sleek pony and then braid your hair and tie it at the bottom. Use some strands to frame your face and pull some from the braid to give it a messy look.

Sleek ponytails and buns were prominent on the Autumn and Winter 2022/2023 runways. Bronx and Banco featured high-shine low ponytails and the bun was seen at LaQuan and Max Mara. Roksanda accessorised the bun with a black ribbon worn as a headband. Ghaida believes the messy bun is appropriate for both day and night. If you want to wear highnecks and backless dresses or showcase your collar bone, it’s a great option. Sleek looks can make your face look bigger, so, how does someone with a fuller, round face pull off this trend? “I would suggest you sleek your hair out and then take two pieces of hair and have them cover your face to give it an oval shape,” she says. “This also makes the face shape better. Even people with small face shapes can do this but don’t cover the face, leave the hair a bit back. It’s called face framing. ” You can take these pieces from the top of your head or near your ear.

THE FULL ROYAL TREATMENT

58 www.ohlalamag.net

Indulge your senses and restore your well-being at the Doha Beach & Spa. OHLALA’s Homara Choudhary spent a tranquil afternoon at its award-winning wellness sanctuary for a VIP treatment.

InterContinental

N estled in the grounds of Doha’s longest private beach, among beautifully manicured gardens lies one of Qatar’s finest spas. Its own exclusive entrance, beside the main hotel, provides utmost privacy in luxurious surroundings. With 16 palatial treatment rooms, couples’ suites, a private indoor pool, relaxation rooms, a tea lounge, sauna, a spa hot tub, and a unique Quartz Bed it fully deserves the OHLALA spa award it won last year. The spa, which opened its doors in 2017, exudes a relaxing and welcoming ambience. I was greeted by the Director, Arie Sunia, who discussed the wide array of bespoke treatments available on the menu. After identifying my skin type and concerns, she suggested I tried their popular Oxygen Rejuvenate Facial which promised to hydrate and lift my parched skin. She also recommended the award-winning signature Spa InterContinental Experience, a two-hour customised treatment comprised of a full-body scrub and a personalised body massage. She explained that this particular treatment is popular as it is tailor-made for each client’s individual needs. My therapist Yulia was waiting to take me through the stunning marble corridors, the scent of aromatic essential oils lifting my spirits. I also discovered an interesting fact; each of the 16 rooms is named after a letter from the word InterContinental. I was shown to the ‘Orchids’ suite. It was beautifully lit and had two wardrobes, a shower, a washroom and a seating area. There was even a jewellery box for valuables. The perfect suite for couples or a spa day with your best friend. I slipped into a sumptuous white robe and refreshed my senses with the cool pressed ginger drink that was waiting for me.

60 www.ohlalamag.net SPA Spotlight

All spa treatments begin with a relaxing foot ritual. Yulia dipped my feet in warm soapy water and exfoliated them with a gentle salt scrub, known for its antiseptic properties. This was followed by a foot massage that instantly relaxed me. We began with the body scrub. There were three to choose from, shitake mushroom, tropical fruit and lemongrass. I opted for the latter. My treatment began on the state-of-the-art Gharieni spa bed. Made in Germany, it’s a premium brand dubbed the ‘RollsRoyce’ of spa beds. With its unique heating system, my body felt comfortably warm as Yulia gently rubbed the invigorating scrub into my skin. Using long upward strokes she exfoliated my body, buffing away any dead skin cells until the granules slowly dissolved. Once she completed the treatment, I washed off any remaining product in the suite’s shower. My skin was visibly glistening and felt as soft as silk. The full body massage was next. There were three types of oils to choose from: Refreshing, Spirit and Relaxing. Feeling rejuvenated from the body scrub, I chose the refreshing oil

www.ohlalamag.net61 containing citrus, lemongrass and lavender. Yulia began by preparing my body for the treatment. With warm towels enveloping my skin, she slowly massaged my pressure points and stretched my arms and legs. She then began slowly releasing the large tension knots from my shoulders using the oil. Those knots were stubborn. Using her thumbs and elbows, Yulia managed to ease the pain as she untangled the strain along my upper body by rubbing the nape of neck, right down to my shoulders. Her massage technique was unique. It was the perfect combination of Swedish and Balinese. Over the course of 90 minutes Yulia miraculously managed to release every knot in my body using soft feather-like strokes. She finished the treatment with a head massage, focussing on the sides and the back of the scalp. I felt completely restored. The final chapter of my wellness journey was the Oxygen Rejuvenate Infusion facial. It promised to hydrate, even out skin tone and reduce any fine lines and wrinkles for a ‘visible lift’. No wonder it’s popular among A-list celebrities like Madonna. Ardana, who was carrying out the treatment explained there were three main layers to the process. Cleansing, moisturising and protecting. She began with a gel cleanser to remove any oils and followed that with an enzyme exfoliant scrub. After removing it with soft hot towels she applied a serum, containing hyaluronic acid, with a wand that delivered a stream of high pressurised oxygen to the skin’s surface. I could feel my facial muscles physically relaxing. So much so that I fell asleep! I woke to Ardana completing the final step; the moisture binding cream, which locks in the serum. She finished my experience with hot towels cleansing my hands and feet. It is little wonder that this five-star sanctuary has an established cult following. After an afternoon of head-to-toe pampering, I felt completely renewed, my face looked younger and brighter and I emerged from the spa feeling like an empress.

OHLALALookbook

This dreamy collection is the result of the visions of Co-Creative Directors Georges and Jad Hobeika. Each piece is an elaborate tribute to the rare gifts of Mother Nature. It captures the wonders of the natural world – from waterfalls to waves and the blazing sun. The exquisite pieces are brought to life by the skilled ‘Mains Précieuses’ seamstresses in the company’s Beirut atelier. This season’s bold couture silhouettes embody the power of life and creativity through unusual structures, vivid colours and many sparkles. Everything is either adorned with dramatic feathers, jewel-like sculptural formations of stones or crystal appliqués. The season’s palette flushes from Mediterranean blues to sunset tones of peachy orange, yellow, fuchsia and pink. A mesmerising pistachio shade is further enhanced by striking emerald and forest green accents. The house’s couture DNA is thrust into a futuristic realm through various innovative techniques, from meticulous airbrushing to metallic feathers and spikes. Crystallised tulle bodysuits add a dramatic appeal to the looks. Among the finishing touches, the maison’s orchid emblem appears on earrings and necklaces with chunky crystals. Couture dreams take flight, heightened by a heartfelt message of acceptance, liberty and the freedom to express yourself.

When it comes to the world’s major cities, a revisit can feel quite redundant but returning to a place you’ve been to before also invokes a sense of nostalgia, making the trip far more personal than the first time, writes Amal Sarhan. This month, she explores the capital cities of Berlin, Paris and London.

CULTURAL CAPITALS

www.ohlalamag.net81

Going to Berlin would not be complete without a visit to some of the war museums. The Jewish Museum and Topography of Terror are especially worthwhile, the former is an exploration of Jewish heritage and culture over two millennia in Germany, the latter is the site of the remaining underground prison cells and torture chambers of the Gestapo. These locations are not suitable for children. The Berlin Wall is another sight to behold and a reminder of the dark history of the Cold War years and a symbol of oppression and division. A short walk away from the Tiergarten, the wall has explanatory boards detailing the wrath of a divided Germany. Make sure to stop by Checkpoint Charlie where the US Army checkpoint still stands today.

TRAVEL Escapes GATEBRANDENBURG

Teehaus im Englischen Garten, a popular spot for tea, is also nearby and a must-visit. The teahouse is decorated with flowers and resides by a lake so you can watch the ducks swim past you while you sip your drink and enjoy your choice of dessert.

BERLIN Berlin, though it has suffered through terrible times in recent history, has flourished as an international cultural hub and has a wealth of things to do. We start at the Tiergarten, one of the prized gems of the city and a verdant haven known to locals as Berlin’s ‘green lung’. Covering an area of 520 acres and located quite close to the city centre, it offers ample space to relax, take a leisurely stroll and breathe in some fresh air. It’s close to some of the city’s landmarks, such as the Brandenburg Gate and the Soviet War Memorial. Also, not far away is the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, set on the banks of the River Spree and home to art forms, from painting and dance to literature and architecture, with workshops, events and discussions happening all year round. After your visit, make sure to take a boat ride on the River Spree to admire the city.

Going all the way to Paris would be a shame if you missed at least a good glimpse of the Eiffel Tower. Visible from all parts of the city, it has three floors, so to speak, and can be explored via elevators and stairs. The view from the top is breathtaking. There’s a restaurant and souvenir shop too. You can also find a display that compares the Eiffel tower with the tallest buildings of the world. During the night, the lighting adds to the charm of this iconic monument. If you take the River Seine Cruise, you can see it reflected in the water. If you’re looking for a traditional French breakfast, head down to Café du Trocadéro, Le Malakoff, Les Gourmandises Du Trocadero. Staples include a variety of sweet and savoury pastries

TRIOMPHEDEARC

TOWEREIFFELLOUVRE

82 www.ohlalamag.net

For museum and art enthusiasts out there, the Louvre is simply a mustvisit! Resting on the banks of the Seine, this largest museum in the world houses famous works such as the Mona Lisa, Vénus de Milo and La Liberté guidant le peuple. There is also an interesting temporary exhibition titled The Golden Age of the Portuguese Renaissance running until October 10. Musée Rodin is equally special, featuring works by the 19th-century French sculptor.

PARIS Oh Paris! The city of love and romance. And baguettes and gruyere of course. The Arc de Triomphe is probably the most prominent symbol of French identity there is, located at the western end of the Champs-Élysées at the centre of Place Charles de Gaulle. Completed in 1836 to honour those who died fighting in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, the structure has names of French victories and generals engraved on its inner and outer walls. Reaching a height of about 50 metres, the monument offers a beautiful view of the city, so be sure to take the trip up. Stroll down the famous Champs-Élysées, which is dotted with a variety of luxury shopping establishments, cafes and theatres.

Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral is another historic landmark of the city. Though it’s not fully re-opened to the public due to the fire in 2019, the parvis or square located in front of the cathedral and the archaeological crypt beneath it are accessible.

CATHEDRALPAUL’SST.

LONDON St. Paul’s Cathedral is a central monument of this international city. Built in the 1600s, the massive spectacle was constructed to replace the Old St. Paul’s Cathedral, largely destroyed in the Great Fire of London. The building was the tallest in the city until 1963, and still reigns as one of the highest domes in the world. Visit the cathedral and admire its grand interiors or attend one of the Choral Evensongs for an evening of music, on almost every day. If you’re looking for a break from the hustle and bustle, visit Hyde Park or St James’s Park and stroll through the maze of green and trees. You can also rent city bikes and cycle around for a bit. An even larger getaway is the Royal Botanic Gardens or Kew Gardens, a 30-minute metro ride away from downtown London. These gardens are listed as a World Heritage Site, spanning an area of 330 acres and housing over 8.5 billion plant and fungi species. Art lovers should head down to Tate Modern for their contemporary exhibitions. While there, make sure you stop by at Rosewood for their delectable Art Afternoon Tea in the magnificent Mirror Room, inspired by the city’s vibrant arts scene. Before you leave the city, stop by Borough Market for some classic streetside snacks and baked goods. Columbia Road Flower Market is an absolute delight to stroll through, with colourful displays and fragrant blooms. To top off your experience in London, head to the West End and catch a classic London theatre performance, whether it’s The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Mamma Mia or Grease

84 www.ohlalamag.net Simran Kapoor headed to Lobito De Mar for the promise of fresh Mediterranean flavours. A TASTE OF ANDALUSIA

C elebrated as one of Andalusia’s most renowned, Chef Dani Garcia makes his way yet again to the ultimate culinary destination hotel, Marsa Malaz Kempinski, with his first branch of Lobito De Mar outside of Spain. As the name suggests, the restaurant is devoted to the innermost world of the sea and beyond; promising the finest Mediterranean cuisine in Doha. It is much more than just a beach restaurant, it’s also a seafood tapas bar, making it the latest sunset spot in the city. Lobito is a two-storey restaurant with large terraces showcasing unparalleled views overlooking the Arabian Gulf. Diners have the option to experience an all-day eatery in the main room downstairs or fine dining by the sea for that perfect romantic escape. There’s even a lively ambience with a resident DJ on the decks after dinner, for whatever the mood may be. The moment you enter this establishment, the atmosphere is a tranquil oasis, with wide windows maximising natural light at lunchtime. Typical Mediterranean interiors, all white and high-quality wooden furniture give a spacious serene look and relaxing vibe. Inspired by the beautiful coastline of Marbella, Dani’s moto is “think local, cook global” – he describes himself as an artisan of flavour. His originality and imagination to be able to combine the products of his homeland together with the techniques and ingredients of such an international cuisine will suit a variety of palates and are the reason his food is unique.

A quick glance at the expansive menu, and our friendly server Martha, the Restaurant Manager, suggested my favourite fresh-out-the-oven rustic-style bread with humble tomato pulp spread. It is one of the simplest, most well-loved appetisers from the country and makes for a perfect snack. Dishes to look out for include the Tuna Tartare on a bed of crushed potatoes and extra virgin olive oil. It arrived on an ornately patterned plate not only a feast for the eyes but the taste buds as well. A rich and creamy texture broken by the fresh and flavourful tuna loin. Next up, for seafood lovers the breaded, deep-fried calamari and fried hammour spread is the perfect recommendation. It was accompanied with roasted garlic aioli, overall each bite was crisp yet tender on the inside with a hint of lemon. The crockery is in keeping with the theme of earthy and fresh island colours, I felt as if I was on holiday with the rugged, turquoise blue plates and decorative shell pieces around the restaurant – it makes it easy to forget where you are.

The real hit of the day was the grilled seabass with caramelised onions; underlying notes of sweet, salty and a burst of simple flavours – paired with a glass of grape and I was on cloud nine.

Submerge yourself in a range of dishes inspired by the traditional cooking of southern Spain, created with love by the very special three Michelinstarred Chef Dani Garcia. Lobito De Mar is a must visit for an exquisite culinary journey from beginning to end. The quality of produce is most definitely the star of the show; delicious, fresh, and worth the hype! Take a culinary trip to the Costa Del Sol, experience the sea view and feel the breeze without leaving Doha.

Pace yourselves, because the portions are meant to be shared, especially the Paella De Mariscos, also known as the seafood paella, which was absolutely cooked to perfection. The shrimp left me speechless, it melts in the mouth, almost like butter. I couldn’t help but goody bag the rest for Do,home.however, keep space for dessert, which is visually delightful in its service. The consistency of the chocolate tarte is a rare find. Finally, we signed off with one of the creamiest tarte de queso, yes, a Basque-style cheesecake but not as we know it. More savoury than sweet, the wobbly custard-like cake was finished with a generous shaving of Manchegocheese. Heaven for any cheese lover and truly the best I’ve had to date.

OHLALA WAS INVITED TO SPEND THE DAY IN TWO OF PORSCHE’S NEW PLATINUM EDITION, THIRD-GENERATION, CAYENNE MODELS. NEW PLATINUM PORSCHEEDITIONCAYENNE

This month, thanks to Porsche Centre Doha, the OHLALA team received the opportunity to test-drive not one, but two Platinum Edition Cayenne models, namely the Cayenne and the Cayenne S.

t’s hard to believe that 20 years have passed since the first-generation Porsche Cayenne was released in 2002. Encouraged by the car’s planet-wide success, the German automaker then released the second-generation Cayenne around 12 years ago, in 2010 – a model that has also enjoyed massive sales on a global scale. Then, in 2017, the much anticipated third-generation Cayenne was launched, and was greeted with the same level of success the series has now become accustomed to. Fast forward to 2022 and Porsche has decided to go one step further. They’ve now launched a new Platinum Edition of selected third-generation Cayenne models. This special edition of the mid-sized, luxury crossover SUV is characterised by exclusive design elements, as well as by additional standard equipment. Third-generation models selected for the Platinum Edition include the Porsche Cayenne, the Porsche Cayenne S, the Cayenne E-Hybrid, as well as the corresponding coupé variants.

The dynamic design of these models can be appreciated from first glance, with their bold yet elegant looking exteriors. At the front end, both the Cayenne and the Cayenne S feature enlarged air intakes, a clear indicator of their advanced performance capabilities. The horizontal light edges emphasise the width of the SUV, giving it an athletic appearance, even when standing still. Both Cayenne models are fitted with LED lights as standard, combined with the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS). This provides a variety of light modes including options especially designed for cornering.

Drives EXTERIOR

The Cayenne Platinum Edition is characterised by numerous model-specific details in satin-finish platinum. The inlays in the slats of the front air intakes, the Porsche lettering integrated in the LED rear light strip, the model designation at the rear, along with the standard 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels (exclusively reserved for the Platinum Edition), are all painted in this distinctive looking colour.

The iconic Porsche lettering extends across the rear lights of the vehicles, featuring a three-dimensional design and an end-toend strip of narrow LEDs. What we found most impressive were the new exterior design elements, only found on Platinum Edition models.

There is plenty of head, shoulder and leg room for all occupants, throughout both models.

A wide range of refinement options for the interior and exterior are also available – from selective changes to extensive modifications.

We found the Crayon seatbelts and brushed aluminium door entry sills, complete with ‘Platinum Edition’ logo, to add a touch of class, as did the ambient lighting, textured aluminium interior package and silver-coloured trims.

Other great Platinum Edition special features include the panoramic roof system, privacy glass, a Bose surround-sound system, along with the Porsche crest on the front and rear headrests.

This detailing adds hugely to the exclusive nature of these Cayenne models, making them feel like a new generation of their Otherown.special design elements of the Platinum Edition include the black trimmed sport tailpipes and rear windows, that emphasise the sporty and refined nature of this elite series.

INTERIOR Upon interior inspection of these models, we were greeted by ergonomic, eight-way, power-adjustable front bucket seats, that are the very definition of both comfort and support.

www.ohlalamag.net95

For those with children, the Cayenne’s LATCH system provides sets of anchors on both the outer rear seats, along with a tetheronly connection for the centre rear seat. Once again it was the Platinum Edition special features that really caught our attention.

The volume of the storage compartments has been increased by 100 litres and now offers an impressive 770 litres – a capacity that can be greatly increased with the rear seats folded flat. This makes these Cayenne models very practical for day-to-day use.

“What we found most impressive were the new exterior design elements, only found on Platinum Edition models.”

The premium materials used throughout the interior consist of genuine wood-grain trim, leather upholstery with contrast stitching, along with soft-touch finishes. Everything about the interior of these models exudes a sense of exclusivity and practicality.

96 www.ohlalamag.net

Our first impression of the infotainment system was that there were a lot of buttons on the dashboard. However, we quickly learnt how to navigate these controls, due to their optimal positioning and logical nature. The Porsche Advanced Cockpit is fully integrated into the luxurious interior environment. A 12.3-inch, full-HD touchscreen is the heart of the latest generation Porsche Communication Management system (PCM), which we found to be both responsive and user-friendly. An array of digital functions can be operated intuitively, including by voice control, whilst the standard Porsche Connect Plus allows access to the internet, online services, and navigation.

POWER & PERFORMANCE

Both of the models we tested house powerful turbo engines, eight-speed Tiptronic S gearboxes, and optimum chassis systems.

The Cayenne series was designed to combine typical Porsche performance with excellent day-to-day practicality. When enhanced to the Platinum Edition, the exceptional nature of these models is elevated to new heights. Drives

INFOTAINMENT & CONNECTIVITY

The driver has access to a central analogue tachometer, flanked by two seven-inch, full-HD displays that present relevant driving data. This can be controlled through the multi-function steering wheel. We loved the beautifully designed, Platinum Edition analogue clock, conveniently located amongst the controls on the dashboard.

SAFETY & ASSISTANCE

First, we put the Cayenne model through its paces. Its sixcylinder, 3.0L turbo engine produces 340hp (250kW) and 450Nm of torque. This enables the model to accelerate from 0 - 100km/h in just 6.2 seconds, and to achieve a top-speed of Next,245km/h.the Cayenne S. This model is powered by a 2.9L, V6 engine with twin turbocharging. It delivers 440hp (324kW) and 550Nm of torque. It can surge from 0 - 100km/h in just 5.2 seconds and boasts a maximum speed of 265km/h - very impressive for an SUV weighing in at almost two tonnes! We found both models to be remarkably responsive, with the Porsche Traction Management system (PTM) expertly distributing the driving force between the drive axles. The cornering and braking abilities of these outstanding vehicles are second to none and we always felt in complete control, even at higher speeds and around tricky corners. Additionally, these all-wheel-drive models offer a superior rough terrain experience. With four off-road modes available, including Mud, Gravel, Sand or Rocks. This ensures that the driver can select the right setup for the immediate terrain. Furthermore, we appreciated the environmentally friendly nature of both the Cayenne and Cayenne S models with CO2 emissions of 217 - 210g/km, and 225 - 220g/km, respectively.

As expected from Porsche, both the Cayenne and Cayenne S models have been equipped with a plethora of both safety and assistance features. These include, as standard, ABS, Brake Assist, Night Vision Assist with thermal imaging camera, Lane Change Assist, Park Assist with Surround View, Tyre Pressure Monitor, Stability Control, Traction Control, Blind Spot Monitoring and a backup camera, just to name a few. Several airbags are also located throughout the interior of both the Cayenne and Cayenne S.

The same thing happens with your personal style; it is not static. It changes. You don’t have to like the same clothes you did a few years ago or even from the previous season. Clothes and accessories are important elements in our everyday lives. They allow us to explore different versions of ourselves while also inspiring and giving confidence.

The Fashion Impact PEXELSATMADEREADY

- Donate the clothes that you don’t wear anymore but which are still in good condition. And if they aren’t, contact specific recycling places that will give the right destination for this kind of trash.

A problem with purchasing new clothes on a regular basis is how, in the long run, this habit will affect the environment. There are ways to embrace a fashion experience more consciously:

Change is part of human nature – and it always finds a way to enter our lives. Maybe your friend group is not the same; maybe your neighbours moved out, and undoubtedly, even if you fight it off, your hair will eventually go grey.

- Purchase items from brands that have an eco-friendly approach. Labels that work with natural materials and invest in sustainable alternatives.

A reflection on the mantra: ‘new season, new wardrobe’.

- Rely on styling. Look at your clothes and try to make different combinations to exhaust their potential. Mix and match them as much as possible. Go back to our fashion pages and try to apply our tips to your wardrobe and create different looks.
