Editor’s Letter
Bonjour,
Avril! hao dy C Cin
They say Paris is the city of love, I like to think of it as: the city of romance and pure passion. For all my fashionistas, we all know that Paris fashion Week took place this past month and we couldn’t be more excited to tell you that Ohlala! was present! Georgie Bradley was on the scene amidst the fashion extravaganza and took to all the wonderful adventures that come from visiting the city of l’amour. Keeping it local back in Qatar, bridal season is here and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share beautiful gowns and accessories to help those beautiful brides to wed this upcoming season. However, not only did Paris take it up a notch this past month with fashion soirées, Qatar hosted an incredible evening at Villaggio Mall for the re-opening of Carolina Herrera’s store – we had the pleasure to quickly chat with fashion icon: Carolina Herrera De Baez. The beautiful and elegant fashion expert gave us an insight into her latest jewellery line: Falling Jasmine Collection. Personally, I literally, fell in love with it. Undeniably, this past month was packed with pure glamour and luxury. And not only was the fashion and beauty department full with interesting things, I had the opportunity to drive Ferrari’s latest: California T – ‘Diva’ doesn’t even cover the experience I had. Until May, au revoir!

All we can hear right now is Miranda Priestly saying: “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” In that small but deadly tone no less. We’re sorry for not being original (according to Miranda) but garden chic is, and will always be, the way to embrace spring. Allow us to be whimsical for a second, but florals and tea parties, please! We particularly love Alice & Olivia’s head-totoe flower suit and Gucci’s green garden dress with the (very clever) strategic scaly boots. What’s a garden without a snake anyway?

The Falling Jasmine Beyond the world of fragrance, a beautiful relationship blossomed. Carolina Herrera de Baez and Argentinean artist Grillo Demo have created The Falling Jasmine – an exclusive jewellery collection inspired by the white five-petal flower, Jasmine.
How did this collection arise?
This jewellery collection came about after collaborating with my friend and artist, Grillo Demo. Jasmine is a very important ingredient in my perfumes and also in Grillo’s work. It is a beautiful flower that inspires me, so what better way is there to materialise this into a jewellery collection? I also wanted to pay tribute to my mother through her favourite flower. Why did you choose the jasmine flower? Jasmine is the flower that Grillo works with. It is very beautiful for its white colour, the elegant shape of its petals and its discreet size. It is a very uncommon element in jewellery and I share my love for it with him. Why a jewellery collection? I have always wanted to do something in jewellery. I love jewels because they complete a look. They can make a day outfit appear more dressed up for the evening. One can play with jewels and that’s what this collection is all about; mixing and combining them to create the look that we feel like having on a specific day. What has been your role in the creation of this collection? Along with Grillo, I’ve worked in the design and creative direction of every one of the jewels. We wanted to put a part of ourselves into each one of the ten pieces.

“The Naturally elegant woman wears Falling Jasmine”
Why did you choose Grillo Demo to collaborate? Grillo is an artist with a great amount of sensitivity and creativity. We also happen to share a basic element in our work, the jasmine flower. Who would be better for the project? What is your main source of inspiration? My own experiences, my memories, my emotions, my travels and day-to-day life. The jasmine flower is my first olfactory memory. The garden in my home in Caracas was full of jasmine and I remember my mother blending the oils of tuberose and jasmine to create her own perfumes when I was a girl. I also thought about pieces that I would wear and how I would combine them. It was from this that the ten pieces came about. What has this entry into the world of jewellery represented to you? Up until now my work has mainly been focused on the creation of perfumes and specific collaborations in fashion. Falling Jasmine is a project in which I have been able to experiment in two worlds that inspire me: art and design. This has also been another step forward in my creative career. How has collaborating with Grillo been? It has been exactly like I had hoped: fun, inspirational and stimulating. I love Grillo’s vision. We talk about everything, we laugh a lot, we like the same things and the truth is that his “office” (his home in Ibiza) is full of jasmine. It’s a little piece of heaven in Ibiza. www.ohlala-magazine.com
Where did the idea of working with a jasmine-shaped jewel emerge? I had wanted to do a jewelry capsule collection and one day, at an exhibition of Grillo’s work in Madrid, I came up with an idea. Jasmine is a very symbolic flower in Herrera perfumes and I associate it a lot with my mother and my childhood. Grillo also loves it. His work centres on the jasmine flower. How has the creative process been? It has flowed very well. We know each other and we know what we like. Both of us are very detail-oriented. When ideas began to arise we knew how to create a much larger collection. But we wanted to concentrate on ten pieces that could be easily combined. It is a very full collection. Why? Falling Jasmine is the first jewelry collection that I’ve designed and for that reason it had to be full. As well as that, we came up with different jewelry designs in order to give greater versatility to the collection so that each woman can combine them in whatever way she desires. Who is the collection aimed at and for what moment? For every woman! The pieces in this collection, just like the jasmine flower, symbolise femininity and purity. Falling Jasmine represents a naturally elegant woman who exudes beauty and sensuality. It is a collection that can be worn on a day-to-day basis or to attend an event or to dress a bride. The collection is called Falling Jasmine and the idea is that if we wear all ten pieces of jewellery it appears that jasmine flowers are falling from the head (the tiara) down to the hands (the ring). The Middle Eastern Woman Paris is awash with the world’s worth of fashion. Not one ‘rue’ is without a lookbook of trendy people. Conquering the capital of fashion is no easy feat. Ohlala! spent time with three designers who, with each season, are continuing to make waves.
Pretty Pastels Madiyah AlSharqi Up in a suite at the Four Seasons George V Hotel, Madiyah AlSharqi’s very springtime looking autumn-winter 2015 collection is lined against a soft Parisian sunlight. You would think by way of colour that the collection is for the now, but on closer inspection, it’s perfect for what a Middle Eastern winter feels and looks like. It’s almost like we’re in the southern hemisphere, a winter in our neck of the woods is summer on the flipside. For starters, her colours are calming with no hint of a stormy grey. “I think it’s who I am. I have always worked with pastel colours – I’m never going to be a dark person or use dark colours. I have always been inspired by Marie Antoinette and will carry that through in my collections. But for this season, I’ve been inspired by LA winters. We tried to go for a darker teal, and appeal to the markets other than the Middle East.” Tracing your hands over the intricate beadwork, it’s clear Madiyah goes for the eye-popping, still comfortably worn, detail. We tell her it’s like a map in the way that it’s beaded, almost like a continent in its entirety. “Every season we develop our beadwork and lace in Paris and then I love to combine it with lots of different fabrics. With my cuts, it’s very conservative but playful too. We try to do as thick as possible. But one time I did a collection with thick coats and fur and I don’t think it worked well in the Middle East – so now it’s thick but more lambskin thick and keeping it lightweight. In terms of colour, it’s pistachio green and whites. And I love the kind of layering between ruffles and structure.” Madiyah is in her seventh season now but it was always an obvious route for her. “I’ve always loved fashion, from the time I was a little girl, so to see myself here, with my seventh season, it’s mind-blowing. It’s really good to be in Paris and to show that even though it’s hard, you can make it. It’s hard for any designer to get their own showroom and have buyers come.” And the one person she would love to see in clothes? “Marina and the Diamonds – I love seeing the vintage side of her in her videos.” 46

A Vintage Affair Bambah Maha Abdul Rasheed is fresh from Cairo having been on location at the Mena House Hotel, near the Pyramids, shooting the autumnwinter 2015 lookbook. She also happens to be Egyptian but she’s definitely not fresh in that sense. Since living across Kuwait and Dubai, she’s settled in the latter. It’s evident she has a soft spot for the golden age of Hollywood glamorous. She calls it “The Diana collection. I designed the colours, petals and flowers and got it printed on the fabric. And vivid flowers they are – “I know they’re right in your face” Maha giggles. Being quite grand in shape, it’s clear that her dresses are for an evening when you’re the spotlight. “There’s a lot of demand for that in the Middle East. It was the main reason why I started my collection because evening wear has become disposable fashion. All the parties have the same people attending so you’re really only allowed to wear something once. That’s why I wanted to make it affordable so that women can buy multiple pieces. At the same time I have adapted it to everyday wear too – you can go grand or minimal.” This vintage affair stems from her vintage boutique store in Dubai. “My boutique started off as a vintage boutique in 2011. Nobody really knew what vintage was. It was when the crisis was getting worse and I turned to my mum and said, ‘how will people respond to pre-loved clothing here?’ Dubai is about the newest, the brightest. There is no bigger satisfaction than walking out of a mall than with a branded bag. It did so well though and I think it was down to the way it was presented. You have these ideas of moth balls and stinky clothes. Customers saw them as unique pieces – knowing 100% that no one else has the same.” Surprisingly, besides Paris as a source of inspiration, Berlin is a mainstay for vintage creativity. “The people there are so creative – they are so inspiring. They really take care of their pieces. London’s vintage scene is over commercialised now. Paris

is always amazing, I just loved getting lost here. Coming to Europe is always a breath of fresh air.” Because vintage glamour is something Middle Eastern women love, it’s gone down a treat. Although, the fact that geometry and architectural lines are the rage right now has to be something that Bambah needs to address. “I am very aware of what is trending” Maha notes. “I don’t know if the brand will go extreme modern. The DNA of the brand is Grace Kelly inspired from the 1950s but why not, I have to listen to what the people want. The utilitarian trousers were a result of a focus group where people wanted high waist trousers. The great thing about Bambah, which means pink in Egyptian (Maha couldn’t help the cliché of her favourite colour) is that customers have lots of options to play around with. Among the hero statement pieces, are the flexible mix and match tops, skirts and trousers which when put together, look like a jumpsuit/ dress. The best part? You’ll feel every bit vintage scarlet. www.ohlala-magazine.com

A Foot in Europe & the Middle East Ingie Paris From sunrise to sunset, Ingie Chalhoub paints her world with colour. She’s so petite in frame, but so large in warmth and makes you feel a part of her collection. Without beating about the bush, the radical use colour blocking for her autumn/winter 2015 collection, has to be put into question: “It’s because of the climate!” she laughs, “in the sun you feel like wearing vibrant colours, you don’t want to be in dark shades. The Middle Eastern woman is very Mediterranean like that.” Her showroom is abuzz with buyers, photographers and the press whizzing in and around. Much like the Joie de Vivre element in her clothes, the atmosphere is happy and life-giving. Her collection sits in many different genres and can make you feel like the epitome of a woman. There’s one optical illusion dress that is so strong, it dizzies you with delight and has that Austin Power effect – and that’s another thing, her collection nods to the 1970s vibe with an equal measure of retro cool and chic. The more red carpet ready dresses are just fabulous with lace and sheer details. What’s interesting is that you can really see how the dresses are tailored to specific Middle Eastern countries. You can see the dress worn in Lebanon, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar and Bahrain. She thinks of the real woman, not just the model. “I have to say the playfulness is very Middle Eastern, but the cuts are very European. I’m always very careful about addressing the sculpture of a woman,” she says. She doesn’t want to be too traditional or conservative (there’s a wonderfully fun cape-like dress, perfect for an Iftar) but of course it caters for the international women who travels a lot – much like Middle Eastern women do, where they have a foot in Europe and home. This is Ingie’s life, as she shows by demonstrating a half attempt at doing the splits – she loves how Europe nourishes the mind and how the Middle East gives you opportunity. There’s a real entrepreneurial air about it. If you wear Ingie Paris you become a statement. Not only that, there are actual graffiti statements in her collection. “I love words I see in paintings and photography exhibitions displayed by women I meet around the world. I also love the way social media has made statements.” Anything that can be hashtagged is great. Words like WOW and beautiful spiral around the fabrics. “ I wanted to put them altogether in my designs and going beyond the cut and fabric, through to the accessories.” www.ohlala-magazine.com

The Alternative Clutch The statement clutch has changed. Gone are envelope and wallet shaped clutches as far as NS By Noof and Nathalie Trad are concerned. As we caught up with them in Paris, just by seeing their collectins displayed, we realised we’ve entered the new age of the experimental clutch.
NS by noof “Russian Baroque has really inspired the design of my clutches” The whole idea of Noof Alshekar’s collection is to create an extension, or continuation of jewellery. “Everything is in brass, gold plated and finished with semi-precious stones. I love exotic skins and always go for the best. You can see it between the bags. Some have an Italian finish and others an American finish, for the more casual look. I started out with very basic geometry in my designs. Then I started playing with shapes and intended to go circular but then went full-out hexagonal. I do love straight lines though, that’s always going to be the foundation. My clutches are rich in historical inspiration, particularly from the Russian Baroque. Buildings from that time really leave me awe-struck, the architecture was exquisite.” With their grand and stately design, the clutches lift an outfit out from obscurity and into the glow of the materials. I would buy stones, and started making earrings and necklaces which my friends would ask for, so I had lots of requests coming in! Then I thought it would be really cool if I could put all these elements on a clutch and make it precious. This is why I always have stones on my clutch, particularly because I believe in the energy they give off.” Much like the stones, Noof wants you to have your clutch as a staple piece to give to your daughters as a precious token. And on that point of being precious, NS by Noof don’t mass produce, “I like to have limited numbers, for it to be niche.” The clutches really do speak for themselves. 50

Another designer with a penchant for geometry is Nathalie Trad. But here, it’s as if Nathalie went to the beach and picked up bits and bobs and turned it into an exclusive clutch. “I try to bring it back down to earth with the materials that I use. I try to mix wood with shells (the reverse side of the shell to be exact, the side that gives it a more granite look), and I integrate other materials just to break it up a bit.” Much like the materials themselves in their purest form, Nathalie’s process is messy. “I sketch uncontrollably and I always make use of things that get discarded from the creative process and shatter them to create a gradient effect.” Every part of the day is a form of research for Nathalie, “my environment, the people as well but more specifically architecture and art deco. Some of my clutches are entirely inspired by the sacred geometry that governs our universe and Cubism – I love incorporated that into my designs.” Being that these clutches are unique in their material makeup, how do you complete an entire ensemble? “It depends on your aesthetic, I’ve seen it worn with full on patterns and ‘going all out’ clothes. But for instance I dress very monochromatic and minimalistic so I like mixing the clutches with that style. Whatever the woman’s character, she’ll gravitate towards what suits her.” In terms of functionality, Nathalie Trads gives you a range – whether you want to carry your just your keys and lipstick or a bulky book. www.ohlala-magazine.com

Things we love about
Baraboux
Us women and our bags – we love having them and even if they’re not the most practical, we won’t compromise on our arm candy. Luxury leather goods brand, Baraboux, has sussed out the modern woman’s criteria of needs and has brought out a new collection so functional, it’s like having the chicest backpack ever.
1
Ipad Pouches
Ladies, we lunch do we not? But how many times does it look like you’re at a “table for one please”? The reality is, we’re running late, but with a bag that fits your most essential gizmo, you can actually get stuff done as your stomach grumbles away. In all seriousness, take any E6 clutch from the collection and you’re set.
2
Moving with the techno times
Our phones are getting bigger and thinner but still growing in surface area – even so, they need to fit in our clutches however abstractly they’re designed. Take the Reema Karung with Swarovski for instance, it opens up as two compartments – one longer than the other – and has more depth than you can see. 52

Basic Instincts
Baraboux’s designs are intuitive. You don’t want to go hunting in your bag for your cards and keys so safety zips are cleverly and instinctively found on the side of the back which bounces off your hips – i.e. close to you. Your phone pouch is also in direct line with your hand on the opposite side, so no more missed calls!
5
They’re light as a feather
As founder of Baraboux, Princess Reema Bandar Al Saud says: “Oh they’re so light you can pick them up with a finger, it’s delicious!”
4
They fit everything!
Baraboux really does fit to a multiple profile of women. Take the cross body Daniela bag, for example. If you’re a girl on the go and need to have your whole day in your bag (and that’s us) you’re sorted. The Sharifa fits your computer and your brick sized Games of Thrones books. Oh and there are also expandable bags, much like suitcases, where you can pop the magnetic buttons to make the bag wider. www.ohlala-magazine.com
Backstage with Kenzo
Exaggerated Collars
Inside the warehouse-like Paris Event Center, a marriage of technological and sartorial genius happened. Kenzo’s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, whose friendship stems from their college years, have spent the last four years being the purveyors of cool .
So, an exclusive look into the AW15 collection, Ohlala! got a seat at the Kenzo show and watched a proper production – lights, effects, movements hinging on the interpretive and a collection so collaborative and in touch with nature. We saw nocturnal florals, forest greens, sun yellows and a contrast between heavy layering in cartridge pleats and figure-accentuating cross body leather backpacks. We grabbed Humberto and Carol for a post show chat… WOW. There were so many key talking points about the show – it was so innovative and edgy. What kind of dialogue are you hoping to create with this collection? Carol: We always aim to create a narrative for everyone who comes to experience the collection. I think it’s a continuation about celebrating a collective of women and the relationship with the forest. What are the key pieces that best represent the collection? C: I would say the juxtaposition between the blankety capes and skirts and the silhouette-giving feminine dresses with the graphic lines. You’re a brand that is known for fusing technology and fashion, where are you going with this? Humberto: We just appreciate all of the elements. We appreciate technology, nature, fashion, culture, authenticity and anything historical, so anything we can pull together that tells that complete story, is really exciting. We have a brand that we’ve loved since we were 18 we are basically living amongst robots, so we really want to bring that into our story. How do you think Kenzo’s aesthetic sits within the Middle East? h: I think this collection is really evident of how global it is and we think it speaks to the Middle East, Japan, California and beyond, and to be able to bring that to the world, is super exciting.

Fashion Of the Stars As Paris Fashion Week drew to a close, the street style that went down was something to talk about till next season. Of course, each show calls for different outfit etiquette - Chanel calls for high collar, Kenzo calls for kooky. Get The Springtime Look Back in September, the SS15 looks embraced easy-to-wear makeup and simple but bold looks.
“There’s an honesty to the looks this spring,” says Terry Barber, Mac’s director of artistry.” This minimalist approach is about attainable, beautiful enhancement like massaging the skin to get the cheeks rosy or using a primer on the skin. It’s a return to radiance.” We’ve compiled a quick beauty lookbook if you will, for you to get into the spring spirit.
Face Healthy, glowing, done with winter and onto a radiant complexion – that’s what spring is all about.
Light concealer
Let your skin breathe a bit after a winter of clogged pores. Nude Eyes
Now of course, this doesn’t mean no effort on the lids – just a little spinkle of sparkle. And don’t go too heavy, leave the brow bone area alone.
Rosy cheeks
As if you’ve just lightly pinched your cheeks and are warmly flushed.
Hot Lips
This is where you let the subtlety of spring stand out with a strong lip colour. 70

The A-Z of Healthy Skin If you’ve been plagued with permanent teenage type skin, fret not. It happens to the best of us; and although we’ve got makeup to sort us out, it’s time to pin point the lifestyle factors attributing to better skin.
72
OHLALA!

Avoid The Sun
Juice
Saunas
It’s a double edge sword when it comes to the sun. Not only do you expose yourself to the risk of getting cancer, your tanned skin will be all leathery and wrinkly adding years on you.
It’s no secret that detox juices – the beetroot, spinach and kale kind - infuse your skin with super-immunity bacteria blasting nutrients. A super juice brimming with vegetables (better than fruit based juices) will sort out any skin bugbears over time.
Beyond the recreational benefits of a sauna session, it improves circulation as you sweat buckets and rids all toxins. More oxygen circulates too, which leaves the skin looking healthy.
There’s always the best intention when it comes to sleep but we all could do with a bit more structure at bedtime. Make sure you get at least 7-8 hours of beauty rest – your skin’s elasticity will thank you for it.
Keep A Routine
Think Before Waxing
Establish a skincare routine that works for you and stick to it – don’t mix and match too many products, or at least, don’t switch all the time. And your regimen shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes.
Coconut Oil
Lukewarm Baths
While most of us have ditched the vegetable/ olive oils in favour for coconut oil, it’s worth transferring its use from food to skin. When solid, its creamy texture sinks into your skin to give you a hydrated glow.
Having a very hot bath is a common mistake but it’s one that dries out your skin and peels away too many layers – namely the epidermis which protects you from the environment.
It makes sense that a layer of skin is ripped off when you get your legs, upper lip and eyebrows done but it’s not something you consciously think about when you go for your appointment. Two weeks beforehand, stop using topical vitamin A products like retinol – they make the skin extra sensitive and weak.
Drop Dairy
Packed with heart-healthy fats, proteins and vitamins, nuts have a good name in the food chain. The selenium-rich walnut, brazil and cashew nut are great antioxidants for your skin.
Bedtime
Sorry if you’ve got cheese-lust but milk and cheese are contributing factors to acne. According to a 2008 medical journal, milk contains components related to the hormone testosterone that may stimulate oil glands in the skin.
Exfoliate Getting rid of dead skin cells is essential to replenish a healthy look. A Moroccan bath is vigorous enough to surface your baby skin once again and leave you soft as cotton.
Fitness Regularly putting your body through its paces with some cardio and toning increases the blood flow and nourishes the skin cells and keeps them vital. And all that oxygen that the blood carries will flush any debris out of your system. To the treadmill it is!
Go Green Green tea provides a blast of hydration to your skin cells and works wonders for your complexion. It’s been said that tea also assists with anti-ageing so we’re not opposed to a steaming mug of tea!
High Quality Cleanser Your face has more oil producing glands than anywhere on your body. Add to that your makeup, sweat and dirt from the environment – yuck! When buying your cleanser, make sure “noncomedogenic” is written on the bottle.
Invest You have to be willing to fork out some pennies for your skin because using cheap products will send your skin into a frenzy if you’re not careful. As ever, invest in organically sound creams. www.ohlala-magazine.com
Mixed Nuts
Nutrition Eating omega 3 rich foods is chiefly the way to better skin. It’s down to you and how you feel when you eat food that’s not nutritionally sound and not only will your body show for it, your skin will manifest the results.
Open To New Things While it’s easy to get stuck into the formula that works for you, allow yourself to take some risks and go where the talk is. If something is causing some buzz, try it out – you’ve got nothing to lose.
Patience There are so many products in the market promising to reduce puffiness, smooth out wrinkles and restore colour. The problem is, we want results right here, right now, right? You have to let the treatment run its course. Give it at least 3-4 months for signs of results.
Quit Smoking The worse vice there ever was, the cancer stick. Without sounding like a broken record, smoking adds years to you, makes your skin and teeth discolour and is not fashionable anymore.
Remove Makeup How many of us are guilty of not removing makeup properly if at all at night? Sleeping with a full face of makeup will create fine lines and acne. Not to mention, all the chemicals in your foundation will damage your skin and create clogged pores.
Uncover Your Bliss At the end of the day, when you’re happy, your skin will show for it. Whatever makes you tick and keeps a smile on your face, the proof will be in the pudding – or you know, in the glow of your skin.
Value Serums For softer, plumper skin, a serum is needed. Sometimes they get overlooked, but they’ll give you heaps of radiance as they penetrate the skin with vitamin A and retinol.
Water The age-old remedy – we know it, but do we do it? The skin needs moisture to maintain flexibility, so drink around 6-8 glasses of water a day and that slight grey tinge you’ve got will go away.
X Air conditioning OK. It is impossible to not use A-C in the summers here but in the cooler months, use a humidifier to purify the quality of air. Air conditioning really dries your skin and hair out so avoid being in direct contact with it.
Yes To Cucumbers Although it seems like a myth, cucumbers genuinely decrease puffy eyes and dark circles. It’s all that silica and those antioxidants which do the trick. Next time you chop some for your salad, put some aside for your eyes.
Zen Keep stress in check because it takes its toll on every part of your body and of course your largest organ, skin. When stress levels are amped, the hormone cortisol, is in high production leading to oily, acne prone skin. And relax..

Beauty Fix: Do’s & Dont’s Making the right product choice and knowing the correct techniques while applying makeup can make you look your best. Here are Reshu Malhotra’s do’s and dont’s… DO: USE A MAKEUP BRUSH TO APPLY YOUR FOUNDATION Use a foundation brush to apply foundation as it not only applies the right amount of product to your face but it allows you to properly buff it out leaving an even coverage on your skin.
DO: FILL IN THE EYEBROWS A fuller eyebrow is always more appealing for the complexion but many of us either have sparse, thin, or light eyebrows that need a little help in the volume department. Applying too much filler, however, can look just as bad, so use an easy hand and choose a shade that is slightly lighter than your natural hair colour.
DO: USE MASCARA Mascara has an undeniable affect that enhances and elongates lashes. Without Mascara, your makeup application may look incomplete. It allows your eyes to look bigger and more awake. My favourite Mascara is Lancome Hypnose.
DO: USE EYELINER CLOSE TO THE LASH LINE 76
OHLALA!
Apply eyeliner as close to the lash line as possible as this definitely enhances your eye. Be sure to get the liner between the lashes and to fill up the empty spaces. I would recommend Make Up For Ever aqua eyeliner.
DO: WEAR THE BLUSH This is the one beauty product that with a simple brush across your cheeks can bring the most life to your face and add depth and dimension. Smile and dust your colour to the apples of your cheeks. My favorite blush is Mac Peaches and Nars “Orgasm.”
DON’T: NOT MATCHING THE LIP LINER WITH LIPSTICK This is the most common makeup mistake. Make sure you choose lip liner that is the same shade as your lipstick and it should be blended well. For best results use a lipstick brush.
DON’T: WEAR THE WRONG FOUNDATION SHADE Foundation is supposed to create a perfect smooth complexion and cover-up any imperfections. This is why you should always use a foundation, which blends in
with your skin and is a shade closest to your complexion and no lighter. You should always match the foundation on your jaw line before buying.
DON’T: APPLYING MAKEUP ON DRY AND FLAKY SKIN Applying makeup on dry skin will only enhance the dry flakes and fine lines. It is very important to prep the skin by using the right primer and a moisturiser before applying the makeup. Smoother skin means smoother application and a better-finished look.
DON’T: OVER TWEEZ THE EYE BROWS Well-groomed brows can enhance your overall complexion. You do want to shape your overgrown brows but don’t tweeze them too much. As we get older, our brows naturally become sparse, so don’t tweeze them too thin, just stick with cleaning up the area around your brows and follow their natural arch for your best shape. Always get them threaded professionally. Keep up with Reshu, a UAE- based make up artist and beauty blogger on www.reshumalhotra.com www.ohlala-magazine.com

Ohlala’s! Questionnaire
The daily life of alexandra
This monththe beautiful and driven Alexandra took Ohlala’s! questionnaire. We find outwhat she craves, her passions and much more.
Beauty, or fashion? Beauty. Your favourite spot in Doha? Admirals on a late Friday afternoon watching the boats coming into the harbor. Daily routine? Tuesday for me would be: wake up in the morning and spend a good hour getting ready in my own time and then take the long drive into work wondering what surprises will be in store for the day. I’ll get into the office, meet with the different team members to check if all is on track and give out assignments, go through emails, have a couple of external meetings and then do my daily inspection of the stables, grounds and horses (taking a moment to have a cuddle with my favourite ones). I get home in the late afternoon and I go off for my weekly scuba diving club (DSAC) meeting of which I am the chairman. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, I’d be going down the QREC racecourse late afternoon to attend the races our horses are running in. What would we find in your makeup bag? 78
OHLALA!
Black eyeliner and mascara. One thing you can›t leave your house without? Mobile phone. Advise you would give to your 20-year-old self ? Don’t change anything, but be careful whom you trust. City girl, or countryside girl? Countryside girl. Do you believe in Zodiac signs? Yes. Last country you visited? Bali, Indonesia. What advise would you give to any woman who is going through a rough time? Ask yourself: if life came without challenges would you enjoy the ride as much? Particularly in the Middle East, we are women living and working in a “man’s world”– rise up to the challenge! Gold or Silver? White gold. Your biggest passion? It’s a toss up between horses and scuba diving! www.ohlala-magazine.com

Chic Eats
Your Ultimate Modern Japanese Cuisine Ohlala! Went trés chic this month. We had lunch at one of the most fabulous places in chili Doha.
You’ve probably heard a place called MEGU: known for its modern Japanese cuisine. This lavish and exotic restaurant is located at one of the most prestigious places in the city: The Pearl-Qatar. This fascinating, yet magical venue is not your typical Japanese-sushi dinner place, or a place for your typical ordinary eatery. As soon as we stepped in, we were transported to a place far from Doha, perhaps modern and busy Tokyo? If you’re a décor devotee you will definitely appreciate the venue’s style and taste. One of the things that first caught our attention was the restaurant’s architectural choices and its mysterious ambience with a modern twist to it, not to mention its beautiful and grandiose window with a magnificent view to the rest of The Pearl. From its breathtaking modern and grandiose centerpiece hanging from the ceiling, to the marvelous balcony with a view to The Pearl’s turquoise body of water – MEGU ensures you’ll have the time of your life in a very exotic and extravagant way. But enough about aesthetics, for all those lunch fanatics you might want to try their 3 course set menu lunch: a delicious range of appetizers, main course, sushi and sashimi lovers, house rolls and desserts. If you’re a seafood lover, MEGU has the perfect appetizer for you: cripsy “kanzuri” shrimp with spicy cream sauce. For those who enjoy a tantalizing beef burger, you might savor MEGU’S premium wagyu beef burger, and for those who crave a delicious sweet dessert: New Yorker’s cheesecake is the perfect bite to end a fantastic lunch. But, not only are the dishes worth talking about, this stylish restaurant is more than just another venue to eat at – and can we take a minute to talk about their high-tech toilettes? The ultimate Japanese toilette technology – definitely a must-try experience. For those who seek privacy, there are two private rooms available both in secluded areas, fully equipped– ready to be delighted for an all-oriental journey. As we finish our delicious Japanese cuisine, delighted at MEGU’S balcony with an amazing view of The Pearl’s turquoise waters, we can’t help, but recommend this chic place. Travel Escapes Macaroons are out, Madeleines are in. Or so I am
told – by a legitimate source, a born and bred Parisian. We’ve met during the Paris Fashion Week, she’s a fashion editor of a French magazine and we’re both gingerly walking up the precarious (sports hall style) benches at the Lanvin show. I say: “They’re everywhere! I knew macaroons were the equivalent of the Arabic date, but this is overkill!” We share a mutual c’est la vie head tilt and fabulously chic, let’s call her that, brings me up to speed on the quick, pop in your mouth dessert of choice: sister Madeleine. Not that they were ever dormant but they’re now the last minute decision item at supermarket checkouts. I notice this at La Ferme, your above average mini mart located on a curve of Victor Hugo circle. Rather than a Twix or Kit Kat bar, the French prefer their own innovation. What’s more telling is how un-mass produced it is – even though the Madeleines are packaged like any other bag of treats, there’s a first-rate feel. For me, the Madeleine is a figurative food. It’s not heavy, it’s elegantly portioned and understated. This is Paris. And I couldn’t be staying in a more chic end of town – The Renaissance Le Parc Trocadéro sits discreetly among the majestically windowed apartments of the 16th arrondisement, between the Eiffel Tower and ChampsElysées. Before you mentally cram a nightmare thought of a thousand and one tourists, the hotel is on the quiet, Avenue Raymond Poincaré. Between running around either side of the River Seine to make the shows and visit showrooms, this boutique jewel, with its outdoor courtyard so charmingly French, is all I want and need. The green garden source of inspiration for the hotel’s renovated décor is warm and cosy. Architect-designer JeanPhilippe Nuel created a foliage paradise in 2011 when the hotel underwent refurbishment and is thus a picture of harmony. And as I have a spare afternoon to roam the streets of Paris, I just indulge in picking up conversations between speed talking amies, watching boulangeries making haste with bread deliveries and wishing that I too, was a regular at a café where the most distinctly bohemian beauty, clad with a notepad and coffee, is sat owning every bit of attention. This is the thing about Paris, no one place has the above – these musings are everywhere, be it Saint Germaine, Clichy or Bastille. What’s more and gives the city its stand-out quality, is the fact that Paris is relatively chilled out compared to its counterparts – fabulously chic had agreed with me on this one. Yes, it has a metropolitan melody about it but there’s something so liveable, so kind to you and your basic human need of a good chat, peace and mental stimulation wherein so many cities lack the former. If you haven’t guessed already, I want to live in Paris. But for the few days that I’m here, the Renaissance Le Parc Trocadéro give me the kind of living situation I could only dream about. So my room; actually, I’m going to stop there and say, my duplex. Yes, I am given a space with stairs. I am, for all intents and purposes, a resident in Paris – or so it feels like. Looking out onto the magnolia-laced courtyard, my little duplex is something out of Amélie. The radio next to my – best sleep ever bed – is playing Edith Piaf era music. I catch myself in the baroque framed gold mirror and see my giddy expression grow with excitement; and while I make this space my temporary home, I catch up on a few emails, sitting on the slick taupe sofa feeling as though I’m at a crossroads between the past and present. 86

Making my round of musings once again, I do what every citizen of culture should do and go to a photography exhibition for an essential Sunday pastime. With just a quick hop on the metro from the hotel, I’m in the eastern stretches of Rue De Rivoli where I visit Maison Européenne de la Photographie on a corner hushed from the main street, for a spot of contemplative (excuse the ponciness) downtime in the quiet company of some of the most invigorating photos I’ve ever seen – begging so many questions and giving more answers than you’d know. Whoever said pictures are worth a thousand words, I salute their sage observation. Back to the oasis of the hotel, I have a sit down in one of the G-Bar & Lounge’s deep sofas and roll through the day’s newsfeed on social media, keeping the #ohlalainparis in check. Laying back in a cosy envelope of jazz music and soft lighting, I secretly can’t wait for breakfast again at the Le Relais Du Parc where the smoked salmon was like none I had tasted before – usually I land the really fishy type which still has the taste of the sea – and the grapefruit juice in particular, kick-started each and everyday for me. Speaking of the food, it is reassuringly good European (quality, all the quality in the world) gourmet level food. Later that night I order soup– vegetable, brought to my room, and my goodness did it make me happy dance on the inside. Concluding the trip with a staunchly Parisian touch, I flick a bite-sized Madeleine in my mouth and flop onto the bed in a star shape (note: I know it may seem a touch hyperbolic at this point, but I genuinely feel like I am in a movie here….!) and already start thinking tu me manques beaucoup Paris!

5 Ways to Be More Parisian So there’s the book, How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are: Love, Style, and Bad Habits, but here’s my take on how to chic yourself up for the city.
1. Stride the streets
Parisians cross boulevards as if there are no cars and are pedestrian friendly. With that level of confidence, fear not of losing limbs, cars will screech to a halt for you.
2. Add cheese
..to everything! Having a steak lunch? Have some goat cheese with that. Finishing off a 3 course meal with a piece of mille-feuille? Look for the strawberry and cheese variation.
3. Have opinions
The French ardently put their views across on politics, feminism, foreign policy - namely over lunch or while smoking - with their friends. In other words, be smart.
4. Sit on a balcony
...and people watch. The French love to open up their (French) windows and air their rooms and take the opportunity to go out and see the world go by at the same time.
5. Be Bold
If you’ve achieved all of the above, you’re going to be pretty forthright as a person - the trouser wearing type - and everyone will talk about you. But you will not give into it because you’re so sure of yourself. www.ohlala-magazine.com

2015 Ferrari California T They say a diva is nothing without her entourage and her luxurious accessories; with that in mind, I took a glamorous drive around the city…
T
he first thing that pops into my head when arriving at the Ferrari showroom is: what am I going to be like when driving a Ferrari? Should I maintain a cool composure? Should I go full Top Gun? Or should I go all Angelina Jolie for that matter? I decide to just keep a low profile and wait for my 2015 Ferrari California T – and get ready to be all diva-licious around the city. I’m very aware that many would kill to drive this car; I mean it is a Ferrari after all. In all honesty and let’s be real: what does a girl want when driving a car? Do we look for the latest chassis ensemble, the newest paint job, or the horsepower the car has to offer? Many of us girls look for comfort, accessibility, looks, power and other goodies the car may have. However, little did I know that as soon as I stepped into the car, my opinion on things would drastically change. The California T is a more ‘relaxed’ version of a powerhouse Ferrari. As soon as I sat down, I felt in complete control of the situation, feeling there is no one else, but me on the road. The steering wheel for instance is at a higher level than a usual car –making you feel like you’re driving an F1 racing car. The steering wheel also carries all the proper gadgets incorporated in the center with frontal paddles to each side with options, allowing the driver to decide to go sporty mode, or normal mode. If you decide to go for a more adventurous route the car will adjust its suspensions to a more rigid form, adapting the car to a rougher resistance where the engine becomes more powerful. Getting more technical, I could appreciate the carbon breaks, which are very responsive. The car and its ensemble and its new technology are a reflection of the product’s elegance and versatility. However, being a very 88

“Did I mention it’s a turbocharged engine? Making the car an eco-friendly investment containing a higher engine power.”
feminine girl – I did appreciate the interiors of this sporty and fabulous car. With leather and a soft brown interior ensemble, the California T is the perfect drive in sunny Doha. Yet, that was not the only thing that dazzled me. This sophisticated car is a convertibl with a terrific sound system and air conditioning – a must-have in this type of weather! Did I mention it’s a turbocharged engine? Making the car an eco-friendly investment containing a higher engine power. The T allows any driver who steps in to drive it at full automatic, or mechanic. If you decide to go for an-all automatic mode, the driver has the freedom to control the paddles up and down the gear changes. If you want more of a challenge, switch to manual mode, which is controlled via the steering wheel paddle and will not change gears without your input. This beautiful and exciting car contains a double clutch type transmission allowing a rapid gearshift. And for anyone who encounters some problems when parking, the California T has an auto-park – useful! In a luxurious city like Doha, driving the Ferrari California T was undeniably an exciting experience. www.ohlala-magazine.com

Uchikake
You’re probably familiar with the term: kimono, however if we
go deeper within the Japanese culture, we would call it: uchikake. An uchikake is an ornate wedding coat with a long trail, which Japanese brides wear during their wedding ceremony. These elaborated gowns are worn like a robe without an obi – the wide waist sash that ties at the back – over another kimono. These precious masterpieces are made out of silk, heavily brocaded, or embroidered with a motif of congratulations such as: cranes, pines, flowing water and a bounty of flowers. The bottom of the uchikake is padded to trail along the floor. For all the beautiful brides to be wed in Qatar this season, meet the kimono master: Mrs. Nishiwaki. She specialises in collecting beautiful and special Japanese bridal gowns; the kimono master has around one hundred pieces, which easily exceeds USD 30,000. Some uchikakes are worth more than USD 500,000. The kimono expert is travelling to Doha to participate in the St.Regis Cherry Blossom Festival, which will be held from April 19-25. Not only will they delight us with incredible Japanese culture, but with a kimono fashion fusion: a blend of Japanese culture and Qatari couture, presenting ‘The Rites of Passage’ and design collaboration with Sckali Design & Angel Line Abaya.
It’s bridal season and every woman is entitled to a little something different for her special day.

Qatar Pearl Legacy
For those who are into fashion and love wearing sophisticated abayas – Tabaya is the girl you need to be following on Instagram for the latest abaya trends. With more than 60K followers, Tabaya delivers the latest trends showcasing top abaya designers in the GCC. “My main focus and goal is to support abaya designers and make abayas a luxury in the fashion industry.” But when it comes to her personal style, the fashionista says: “I love a chic and elegant abaya – with high heels, of course.”
Are you a pearl aficionado? Audrey Tcherkoff, CEO of Robert Wan in the Middle East, gave us the latest scoop on what we can expect from Robert Wan in Qatar. “Qatar wants to revive their heritage, and we know that the pearl is a big part of their history,” stated the CEO. Robert Wan decided to step in for this exciting project in association with Sheikha Mozah naming the country’s new joy: ‘Qatar Pearl Legacy,’ which consists of farming and cultivating pearls in the country. Wan’s team took roughly three-years to ensure that everything was environmental-friendly for the growth of its pearls and to ensure the best quality. The first piece – which was exhibited at the Doha Jewellery & Watches Exhibition this past month – took five years in the making. The beautiful piece was a white-pearl-necklace named ‘Hayaat’ - meaning: life.

Happy Birthday Ms Aries Giovanni unravels your destiny …
Aries-AT-A-GLANCE Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac and is often associated with pioneers and the pioneer spirit. This makes them born leaders and solid performers, even under the most harrowing of situations. They are fearless and brave, if a little headstrong and will always fight for any cause they believe in. They are extremely forthright and outspoken and always enthusiastic. On the negative side they are restless and often hot-tempered if they do not get their own way. Also, whilst they make excellent leaders they are not such good followers and do not take orders well.

Aries
Spring is very much in the air and heralds new beginnings for many of you this April. This month sees you finally acting rather than always threatening to act as you set the wheels of change into motion where a dream or idea is concerned. Your sign is often in two minds when it comes to most things – you cannot help it this is just your nature – but as the month unfolds, reflection finally acts as the catalyst to inspire physical and constructive action.
Cancer
Something weighs rather heavy on your mind this month and you might find yourself feeling slightly shackled or restricted by certain people close to you. Make sure you stamp your own authority on the situation bothering you most otherwise matters will quickly move out of your hands! As it is, April does not look like arriving in the best fashion for you, with the early part of the month seeing you involved in a rather serious disagreement with a partner.
Libra
Capricorn
Taurus
Leo
Scorpio
April is a good month if you have plans to visit the bank manager for a loan or seek to expand a business venture. However, put your intended plans together well because funds will only be given to the intelligent, thought out proposal. If you are considering a move of house, then get all the advice you can find before even taking the first step. A potential pitfall is waiting for the unprepared!
Aquarius
The rocky road ahead in April twists and turns without much of a clear view and there will be more than a few surprises lurking beyond your field of vision. You may find that there’s an avenue for change, perhaps in most cases for the better, in the work environment. As April is typically a month that favours Aquarians because of their affinity with Aries, the omens are good for most of the choices you will be presented with and a contact in the office may help you reach your ambitions.
Gemini
Virgo
Sagittarius
Pisces
April comes filled with the promise of adventure and creative development as you decide to reimmerse yourself in a project that you have perhaps ignored for some time. Suddenly you will start to feel your imagination fire and a new energy put spark to the potential you know has always existed within you. This could mean the start of great things – especially in the work place – where a significant but personally beneficial change is strongly indicated.
April will see you reach an emotional peak in a relationship as you witness past hardships or troubles with a partner finally disperse for good and a new development emerge that brings the two of you closer than ever. The first steps down this road of “romantic promise” might not be as easy as you first believed and you will both have to deal with some particularly deep soul searching and even one or two painful admissions.

April will prove to be a very good month for many of you and there is every indication that a trip overseas will leave you with some memorable moments to ponder over – especially in the area of relationships. You could find yourself encountering romance in a very unlikely setting and some highly charged emotions might be set free in what promises to be a most enlightening period of your year.
Curiosity killed the cat, or so the saying goes, but that may not be enough to dissuade you from following your nose a little farther than is advisable this month. Overhearing two relatives talking at a family gathering sees you getting the taste for gossip and you will soon be tempted to pursue the subject matter further. Where you might come unstuck is with someone not willing to reveal what they know.
Something is coming Libra, something uncomfortable and not exactly what you are expecting but nevertheless, and quite regrettably, it has you in its sights. The last few months since the start of 2012 may have seemed disjointed and unpredictable and April is about to deliver the culmination of these events with some particularly turbulent episodes. Firstly, an unforeseen re-shuffle at work will see your position change dramatically and even force you to believe that enough is finally enough.
April sees you drawing into yourself and reflecting greatly on a past relationship that still features in your thoughts. Loved ones, also rest heavily on your mind and you’re left questioning a financial decision you’ve made in relation to this area. You may feel somewhat isolated from a partner’s activities in April and a moment put aside to remind those closest that you need attention will not go unheeded.
If you’ve been going through a difficult emotional time lately, then April offers you th to finally break free from the chains and reclaim your life once more. It could well be that you need a confidence booster and this may come in the form of an admirer, who has been waiting in the wings for some time and is now ready to make a move. Even if you feel unsure about a proposal for dinner or some similar advance, put your uncertainty behind you and take the chance.
If you’re hiding a secret from a loved one then brace yourself in April, as the truth is about to come out. In some respects, if you have the opportunity to reveal all before all is discovered, then do so. No one likes to be deceived, but they like it even less if they discover the truth from someone else! April is also a time when tears will be shed over a disgruntled relative who strikes out unfairly against you over money.

6 TIPS TO SURVIVE
1
SOCIAL MEDIA
It can get pretty annoying when it comes to opening your Facebook account and all you see are your high-school friends getting engaged, or even worse – your best friend’s pregnant with her second child. I mean, really? No! Don’t be fooled by what society wants or expects you to do… Enjoy yourself with a group of single friends and dance the night away – and remember DISCONNECT yourself from social media. It’s OK at times to leave your phone to the side – look up and enjoy what you have in front of you.
‘THE SINGLE PHASE’
2
This is your time to shine! Just because you’re not the bride, doesn’t mean you’re ‘the watergirl’. If you happen to have a lot of time on your hands, get busy! If you’re not into sports, use this time wisely to build that website you’ve been meaning to get round to; finish that book you started five-years ago and excel at what you do best and stay focused.
NEW YOU
Who said haircuts are for breakups? A salon isn’t the sole purpose for post relationship gossip! There is nothing more appealing than a woman who exudes confidence. Pamper yourself and treat your inner diva. This is the time to dedicate all of your time to no one, but yourself.
TRAVEL

BECOME THE LEADER, NOT THE FOLLOWER

If you get lost, go find yourself. Travelling is by far the most precious gift you can give to yourself. However, travelling alone can get a bit scary, but it’s about discovering new things about yourself and pushing the boundaries of your comfort zone and encountering new and exciting adventures. This is the moment to do it!
Ever craved to take that painting class but are too shy to enroll? There is nothing more fulfilling than being able to learn new things (and hey!) – meet new people. Who said being single is for boring peeps?

Bridal talk can get quite excessive these days, but it’s OK to feel lonely and left out – I’ve got the perfect tips and tricks on how to survive bridal mania.
RELAX
We women, we tend to stress, or over-think unnecessary things, like: when am I going to get married? Let those thoughts leave your mind and release all negativity. Concentrate on what’s currently happening in your life and focus on your goals, jobs and ambitions. There is nothing sexier than a woman who knows what she wants in life and is in full control.
