Walking the Path to Reconciliation and Healing Historical Wrongs 4 l [oh my: that's haute.]
When Gord Downie announced that he was coming to Ottawa to perform a concert for his Secret Path project, I was honored when Rob Ferreira, the founder of a fundraising committee called Courage for Gord, asked me to be the lead organizer of a pre-concert fundraiser. In August, the Courage for Gord committee organized pre-concert fundraiser parties across the country during The Tragically Hip?s Man Machine Poem Tour, raising almost $50,000 for Sunnybrook Foundation. In September, they launched a website and ecommerce platform, www.courageforgord.org, where unlicensed merchandise is sold. I had never organized a fundraiser before and I was hesitant to run this one because it touched on a lot of topics that I was unfamiliar with. Like many Canadians of my generation, I was trained to ignore what was happening up North. The education system which I attended as a child barely touched on the subject. At home there was a negative stigma and while I was in university, courses with Aboriginal focus were not my top priority. I felt unsettled and then realized, that it wasn?t just me. My eyes were opened wide as I learned the truth. For over 150 years, residential schools operated in Canada and over 150,000 children attended these schools. Often underfunded and overcrowded, these schools were used as a tool of assimilation by the Canadian state and churches. Thousands of students suffered physical, mental, and sexual abuse. All suffered from loneliness and a longing to be home with their families. The damages inflicted by these schools continue to this day. One of those students was Chanie "Charlie" Wenjack. Chanie was born January 19, 1954. He died October 23, 1966, near Redditt, ON. An
Anishinaabe boy, at age 12 he ran away from his residential school and subsequently died from hunger and exposure to the harsh weather. All Chanie wanted was to go home, which was over 600 km away in Ogoki Post on the Marten Falls First Nation. His death sparked national attention and the first inquest into the treatment of Indigenous children in Canadian residential schools. Running the fundraiser was one thing. Attending the Secret Path concert was another. I am a huge fan of Gord Downie and have been since my early teenage years. What this man has done in the last year has truly amazed me. This topic however, meant more to me than my favorite band ever did. My system was in shock, I felt ashamed and felt the sadness along with so many other aboriginal people who were also watching Gord?s performance. I could barely watch the painful images on the screen behind the stage and tears flowed down my face the entire evening. The
5 l [oh my: that's haute.]
Secret Path story has inspired me and many others to do more. On November 19 - 20, 2016, I along with three members from the Courage For Gord fundraising committee, will complete a historic walk on Chanie's "Secret Path". Our hope is to raise more awareness for the thousands of children that died and suffered while attending residential schools. All money raised will support the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund. The walk will commence on the morning of November 19th with a ceremony at the site of the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School in Kenora, ON, and continue to Redditt, ON. On November 20, we will then set off to the approximate location of Wenjack?s final resting spot near Farlane, ON for a commemorative ceremony. This will not only be our most impactful fundraiser but an emotional, educational and spiritual journey. Visit and Like our Walk for Wenjack Facebook Page to track us on our walk and donate.

BORSARI PANETTONE & BUTTER PUDDING Written By: Kim Ronzoni Panettone, ?pane di tono? (luxury bread in Milanese dialect) is a classic and much loved world wide, Italian cake-like bread made with fresh eggs, butter, wheat flour, yeast, sugar and candied orange and lemon peel. Historically, it originates from the Milanese region in Italy and dates back to the 1400?s! Typically served during the Christmas season as a symbol of good fortune for the coming New Year. Today, you can find many flavoured versions including chocolate, coffee and a variety of fruits. It is also available in store by early spring in time for Easter celebration. This is my new Italian version of the traditional English Bread and Butter Pudding that I use to make using plain bread and raisins. I hope this becomes your new favourite too? xo INGREDIENTS -
1 750g Borsari Panettone (Classic Italian Cake), cubed ½ c. unsalted butter, melted 6 large eggs ½ c. sugar + 1 tbsp. (reserved for top) 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 2 pinches nutmeg
7 l [oh my: that's haute.]
-
1½ tsp.vanilla extract 1 orange (zest only) 2 c. whole milk 2 c. 18% table cream
DIRECTIONS (M AKES 8-10 SERVINGS) 1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F, butter your baking dish. 2. Cut the panettone into cubes leaving crusts on. In a large bowl, add the panettone cubes, drizzle with the melted butter and toss gently to evenly coat. 3. Place panettone cubes into baking dish. 4. In a medium size bowl, beat the eggs with sugar, spices, vanilla and orange zest. Whisk milk and cream into egg mixture. 5. Pour this custard over the panettone cubes and allow to sit for 15 min. W HERE'S MY DAMN
PRINCE CHARMING?! Written By: Melanie Martin The white horse, the damsel in distress, the wicked witch? we have all heard the stories over and over growing up and now in adulthood try and find that one true love that will sweep you off your feet. I want to know what crock of shit Hans Christian Andersen used to feed his wife? or? was she just one of the lucky few that have been able to live this mystery life. Maybe I was fortunate to have a great mix of princess and ninja turtles growing up so the thought of a man flying by me on a white horse and sweeping me off my feet actually made me cringe. So I was able to see through the fairy tale lies early on in life. Now that I am older, I watch my single lady friends and I see that there is one thing in common. They are all waiting for Prince Charming. Of course being such the nice gentle soul that I am, I don't have the heart to tell them he doesn't exist but ladies...HE DOESN'T F@* %ING EXIST!!! Well now that I got that off my chest, it's not that there aren't great guys out there. There are and 13 l [oh my: that's haute.]
I was very fortunate to marry one; but believe you me he is far from that ideal that is Prince Charming. The fact of the matter is you never get to hear about the wonderful life of this perfect 'fairytale' couple past the wedding. Why do you think that could be? Did they fight from time to time? Probably. Did they do things that grossed each other out from time to time? Probably. I bet Prince Charming tried a Dutch oven once or twice. I would sell my first born to Rumpelstiltskin I'm so sure that's what the reality would actually be. I think if we are able to find a guy that treats you right, recognizes your accomplishments and helps encourage you to accomplish more. Is willing to help out when he can and notices when you just need a break you have won the "Prince Charming" lottery. I really wish I was able to sit down with Hans Christian Anderson and find out what kind of person he really was. I take a look at a chunk of his literature and woman were actually pretty nasty. Eating or poisoning children, sending them out into the woods to fend for themselves, you know all the sweet nurturing stuff woman do. So this person who created the ideal man has also told us that woman unless eye catchingley beautiful are evil children killers. Taking a look at that little bit of info do you really think we should be basing our entire future on a fairy tale type scenario? I'm thinking ummm NO! I believe if we are able to pull ourselves out of the stories that we are told as children and even now as adults we would be much happier with ourselves and possibly with others. So I guess the answer to my question is there is no such thing as a damn Prince Charming but there are some pretty incredible men out there that are probably getting over looked that are the closest to Prince Charming then you will ever get. Who knows maybe they even own a cape and a white horse ;)

Written by: Suzanne Quintal It?s almost the end of another year. As 2016 draws to a close, I decided to do something different this year. Rather than attempt to commit to a series of ?better for you? changes on January 1st, I decided to start making them earlier in the year instead. That way, hopefully the attempts will be fully ingrained habits and I can enter 2017 a little wiser and healthier both in body and mind! Not so easy when you are a sarcastic and seriously Type A overachiever. Not to sound too woo-woo, but your vibe really does attract your tribe. Not just my friends, but these changes attracted the ?clients? that I wanted to work with in my design business. Everything is just a little more easier and more pleasurable when you own your true authentic self. So who am I? I am as my bio says, I am classy, and sassy and definitely a little bad assy. I love the finer things in life. I like to work hard. I love to travel. And yes, I swear like a sailor. I am a kick ass interior stylist. 14 l [oh my: that's haute.]
I truly consider it a privilege to help people love their spaces. There is no greater feeling than helping someone create a home that reflects their unique personality. I believe every home should have the touch of the unexpected and start a conversatio. Here are some items that will bring a little flavour into your nest. TELL IT LIKE IT IS.... Me, I am pretty sarcastic at heart. When meeting new people and in professional situations, I try to keep my sarcasm at bay. But I have a love for a little witty in your face edge. I am so into the the statement accessories by SAID THE KING...an awesome company out of Toronto. much as I want. Dedicated Zen centred corners are becoming a staple in many homes and for good reason. It?s good for the soul. We all can benefit from starting or ending the day in a reflective and positive state of mind. Is your little one acting up? Send them to the mediation corner to calm the F down. Make time out positive not punitive and your little yogi will take a cue from you to be a better person. As you, the #designtribe, comes to the end of your own 2016 journey, consider what it is that makes you your authentic self and how you can infuse that into your decor so you can enjoy it on a daily basis. GLUTEN-FREE PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES Written by: Kim Ronzoni These cookies are gluten-free and made without added flour, refined sugar, sodium or hydrogenated oils. Coconut sugar is a rich unrefined natural sweetener that contains a fibre called Inulin. This makes it have a lower glycemic index than regular table sugar. ON BABY MY FIRE Written By: Nicole Rosenfeldt Fuzzy socks, cozy blanket and warm fireplace... Perfect recipe for a relaxing afternoon with a nice book and favorite drink on a colourful autumn day or crisp winter weekend. Your mind is wondering as you are visiting this professionally showcased property. Can it be the one, this comfortable house you have been looking for? As you are searching for the most suitable home it is important to recognize the practical factors related to this inspiring fireplace. Many aspects are to be studied, whether it is security or functionality and of course the feeling it provides through its appearance and presence. All components are important to observe and evaluate. If your search guides you to a natural wood burning fireplace it is important to proceed with a W.E.T.T. (Wood Energy Technology Transfer) inspection from a certified inspector to ensure these installations are in compliance. A thorough cleaning is always advised especially if it has not been in use for a long period of time as some little living creatures may have claim it has their own home. It may be clogged and unsafe with creosote accumulation. A nice tip ,if you are unfamiliar with this type of fireplace, to eliminate soot and smoke is to burn seasoned dry wood. You may fall in love with this modern and fashionable brick, stone, marble or tile structure towering to the second level of this vaulted ceiling. Even for this stunning focal point it is mandatory to recognize if the structure is solid enough to carry all this weight for a long term. The craftsmanship will dictate if all is safe and sound. Some details such as the grout, spacing, eveling will
19 l [oh my: that's haute.]
present an important factor in the appearance of the final product. When leaning towards a traditional or transitional fireplace structure, the mantel and hearth can be a challenge as they will utilise extra space. Some practicality factors to consider for the mantel include the hanging of your Christmas stockings, the placement of candles or a small electronic devices. The hearth is principally important for the wood burning fireplaces as there are strict rules to follow for the fire code. The building material mostly consist of inflammable components. Mantels will be created out of wood, stone or metal work. Their design vary based on the intricacy desired by the owner. The heat source and its strength is a crucial characteristic for the safety and material utilized in the creation of this multipurpose fireplace. If you display electronics such as a television in close proximity, be sure to disclose this element to the sales representative guiding you in the choice of product you will purchase. A gas fireplace inspection is sometimes not covered by your traditional home inspector. Inquire if this is a topic reviewed during the visit. You should ensure the buyer will have the pilot turned ON as some inspectors will verify the fireplace only if it is in function since he or she may not have a licence to turn it on. Sometimes there is a security reason why it is off therefore the safety aspect will have to be be respected. In the summer or warm seasons it is often not in operation as the owner may have shut it down on purpose to save some money. When the pilot is in fonction, it still consume some energy even with the switch turned off, beware of your saving burning away. If you choose to install a fireplace after you purchase a property it is highly recommended to verify with the authority in your community to understand the restrictions prior to purchase and install. Always ensure to comply with the fire code, specific distance from another home, and all regulations concerning such a project so your investment does not disappear in smoke. Safety is your first priority in order to enjoy the beauty of the fire warming up your home and chilly days! Spark up your life and relax!

e Next... Hey VW...HINT... HINT! Written by: Brandelyn Cameron Dear Volkwagen Canada, It's been several days since I sent you my open letter and I feel that it's time to get personal, and although I am writing this with tongue in cheek, I'm sure you'll get the point. Since 2006, I have been involved with a few of your Volkswagens. Now, other than an expression of my loyalty, we won't focus much on my first love, Ruby, the 2006 Jetta Highline as she didn't have any indiscretions...or at least none that I am aware of. But Vader, on the other hand - my 2012 Jetta TDI, was purchased following extensive research. You see, much like your advertised commitment to the environment, (you know your 'like really clean diesel') I was actively completing several Green Design courses. As someone frequently involved with giving advice on home renovations, I have a keen interest in truly minimizing our impact on the environment. So, while I was researching a more "responsible"
21 l [oh my: that's haute.]
vehicle choice, I was also genuinely interested in truly making an environmental difference. And I fell for your lies - hook, line and sinker. (Ahem...#cleandiesel) Notwithstanding the fact that our entire relationship was predicated on a big fat lie, in the 3 years that followed, you seemed to be the perfect match for my lifestyle and my values. My fuel efficient Volkswagen clean diesel had completely won my heart and I decided that you were definitely 'the one.' So I traded my almost paid for dirty diesel number one and acquired dirty diesel number two - Pearl, the 2015 Passat TDI. You see Volkswagen, your fraudulent actions extend well beyond your deceitful marketing. Many people, like myself, made major life decisions based on your lies. We trusted you. Interestingly enough however, I'd bet that many of us are even willing to forgive your hurtful actions if you'd just speak with us. Make it right Volkswagen. It's time.

THE REAL BEAUTY OF BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY Written By: Tiffany Smith ?Oh my god? ? , she said with her mouth agape staring wide-eyed at the image in her hand, ?? that?s me???? she asked as she slowly flipped through the art in her hand. ?Yes,? I answered with a warm smile. ?Noooooo? what did you do to me?? she questioned. ?Not much, really. In fact, hardly anything at all. That is all you!? I said with a giggle as she sat there, staring in disbelief. Today, according to dosomething.org, 91% of w om en say t h ey ar e u n h appy w it h t h eir bodies. That?s where the work I do comes in, and why I believe every woman should at least once in their life, be daring and push their own personal boundaries, to see themselves through the eyes of another, and allow themselves to be celebrated in a boudoir session. Trust me when I tell you I have never met a woman, regardless of her shape or size, that does not have some kind of hang up about her body. We live in a ?thin-ideal? culture, ?where thinness and beauty are highly valued for women, and wealth and success are often considered to go hand in hand with a slim figure.? It is in this limiting belief where we can find ourselves tripped up by life, and not living up to our full potential. We find ourselves putting life on hold because we believe we have to look a certain way before we dare chase our deepest
23 l [oh my: that's haute.]
desires. But what if we stopped buying into this subconscious belief even if only for a single day? How different would our inner landscapes look if we threw all our wounded beliefs about ourselves out the window, and dared to own how incredibly beautiful we are? Owned our own unique beauty, not the beauty we?re sold on tv and in magazines. The beauty I am talking about is the one that no other soul on this planet can duplicate. And now imagine if we could take that confidence you?ve gained, out into the world so that you could boldly do what you came here to do. This is what boudoir is about - reclaiming your personal power. Visualize it with me, there you are, standing in front of another human being, in your underwear, with all your vulnerabilities exposed, saying ?here I am with all my imperfections, but you know what? I am one hell of a badass chick and I am choosing to love myself!? Freedom is born in that moment. A personal freedom you earn from the having the courage to stand up to your inner mean girl and tell her to take a hike. The empowerment that manifests, from kicking her overcritical ass aside for a day, is radical and deliberate self-love . You are choosing YOU. It is one of the greatest gifts you will ever give to yourself. Then multiply those effects when you
extend the trust needed to be seen through the eyes of another. To see yourself through the eyes of someone who isn?t judging you, who in all likeliness is actually inspired by your braveness. That photographer is capturing you in a place in time, when you were at your most vulnerable and most powerful; they are creating a keepsake for you to look back on when you need a reminder of the beauty that you are. There is a line that in Macklemore?s ?Can?t Hold Us? that says: ?we came here to live life like no one is watching,? and he?s right. The time has come for us all to stop living small, to come out of the shadows of fear and shine the light on our gorgeous selves and to be celebrated. Not just our bodies, but our minds, our spirit, and the special things that make us, US! As women we are so quick to lose sight of ourselves because we are the caregivers to all those around us; always giving to others, and rarely giving to ourselves. Whenever I meet with a client who tells me she is doing her session for her partner, I challenge her to reconsider. Sure, your partner will benefit from your session, and it can also make for a very sassy gift idea that will surly spice up your bedroom, but DO IT FOR YOU. Treat yourself for a change. Book a day that is all about you. Allow your self to kick up your heels, pop some bubbles and be pampered. Give yourself the space to reconnect with yourself. Show your self love again. We cannot love another until we truly love ourselves. And we certainly can?t teach our daughters how to love themselves if we don?t know how to show ourselves love. We must lead by example. So be daring. Allow yourself to be vulnerable. And never stop celebrating yourself. You deserve it.

N aughtyN og The Festive Boozie Written by: Noelle Oberg Do you have trouble digesting dairy, a Husband that squirms at the thought of eggs but you still long for some Christmas Eggnog?...... Ya me too. Not to worry friends, there?s an Eggnog just for us! First things first, if we are going to make special Eggnog why not make it EXTRA SPECIAL by adding some home made Holiday Spice Infused Vodka. Yep that?s right, wrapping Christmas presents just got a whole lot more enjoyable. STEP 1: Infuse your vodka for approximately 3 weeks in a tall corkable jar, or even just a large mason jar. There are plenty of helpful recipes that you can search but my favorite mixture is the following: -
1 Litre Plain Vodka 2 cinnamon sticks gently cracked 1 vanilla bean, cut in half lengthways 6 whole cloves 1 whole nutmeg, cracked 2 pieces of star anise The peel of one lemon and one orange 2 pieces of peeled ginger (loonie sized) 1 cup of fresh or frozen cranberries
Okay, fast-forward three weeks and 2 large snow falls later. Lets enjoy our vodka in some dairy free, naturally sweetened eggnog! (If you don?t want to wait three weeks for your spirits, you could always use spiced rum or something with similar flavoring). STEP 2: In a blender combine: -
1.5 cups of unsweetened cashew milk 1 cup of full fat unsweetened coconut milk 6 pitted Medjool dates or some pure maple syrup 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 teaspoon of fresh ground nutmeg pinch of cinnamon - pinch of cloves pinch of sea salt
Note: If you are using dates it may be helpful to blend them up a bit first and then add the rest of the ingredients. This will not keep in the fridge so serve immediately and make more if desired. I don?t know about you guys but this sounds like I could skip dessert all together and head straight for my Naughty Nog!
H appyH olidaysto all and please drink Note: Leave for 3 weeks and shake the jar every so often to agitate the ingredients.

PRENATAL FITNESS Strong & Healthy M ammas For The Win!
Written by: Madelaine Garcia Assuming you already exercise regularly, pregnancy doesn't mean you need to stop training but it does mean you need to adjust it. If you don't exercise now you have a good reason to start! Prepare your body all the changes during pregnancy, for the marathon of delivery and for all the work you will need to do once baby is born. Strong and healthy mammas for the win! Keep in mind you will want to make sure you check with your healthcare provider before you start to exercise. Typically it's recommend that you maintain what you were doing pre pregnancy with a lower intensity but not to initiate any new rigorous training during that time. Most of the changes you will need to make will be personal and specific to your own body and pregnancy but there are a few that are universal to all women. As a personal trainer, nutritionist, current pregnant woman and an eternal lover of exercise, I had an image of me training as hard as usual through my whole pregnancy. I knew I would need to modify according to our typical guidelines but I didn't realize how different the body would actually feel when the time came. As always tune into your own body and pay attention to what feels good (and what doesn't) and have a wonderful safe, healthy and active pregnancy! Get f ocu sed. This is a time to focus on health. You goals for exercise during should be to move to feel good, to benefit your body and baby and to prepare for labour and delivery. This is not a time to focus on weight loss or strength gain. Feel good. Your workouts should leave you feeling good and energized. You don't want to be 31 l [oh my: that's haute.]
feeling overly tired or drained post workout. Typically it is recommended that intensity for training during pregnancy be between a 3-7 out of 10 depending on how you feel and your level of fitness. Be aw ar e. Respecting your body's needs is always an important part of training well, even more so during pregnancy. If you don't feel well enough lift don't do it. Nausea and fatigue can be a big part of pregnancy for some women and that needs to be taken into consideration. Movement is good though so maybe just opt for some leisure walking or yoga movements. On the same note you will also find strength training is really beneficial and that certain strength movements can help reduce your aches and pains. Lower back pain is often reduced by strengthening the glutes. Upper back pain can be reduced by training your shoulders and upper back and by stretching your chest. CHOOSE YOUR EXERCISES AND W EIGHT APPROPRIATELY You want to keep the heaviness of your weights to somewhere that you can complete 10-12 reps per set. We avoid heavier sets of 8 or less during pregnancy because your body releases the relaxin hormone making your joints and ligaments more prone to hyper extension and injury. Certain movements likely won't feel good like lying on your back or stomach or leaning over like in a deadlift. The other type of exercise that may no be ideal for you is high impact training like running and jumping. This is taxing on your pelvic floor with the already added weight of the baby. If you are a runner
and don't want to give it up I highly suggest you see a pelvic floor specialist throughout your pregnancy to avoid incontinence and prolapse issue postnatally. KNOW WHAT DISTASIS RECTI IS AND IF YOU HAVE IT Distasis recti is a common stretching separation of the abdominal connective tissue. It happens to most women to some degree at some point during pregnancy and it can range from mild to severe. We want to keep it from becoming severe and fully separating by being aware of what causes it and makes it worse is important. Watch out for pulling and doming in the ab area and avoid movements where you feel a direct pull on your abdominal centre line especially around your belly button. Be careful to lie down and get up by always rolling to your side and pushing your self up with your arm. Do not sit straight up. (I wrote a detailed post about DRA here Te). I highly suggest all my clients see a pelvic floor physio specialist during pregnancy and post pregnancy especially before starting or re starting any training. If you do have DRA don't worry, it can usually be corrected through exercise and treatment post pregnancy but in some very severe cases surgery may be required.
Eat w ell t o f u el you r exer cise. Because we are not focused on fat loss you will want to fuel your training (unless you are overweight to begin with). You will want to eat enough so that you are not exercising your way into caloric deficit when pregnant. A small meal containing protein, carbohydrates and fat before and after your workout will also make sure your blood sugar levels stay stable and help keep your energy up. A protein smoothie or roast chicken sandwich and salad could be a great option here. Movement in general is great and even if all you do is a 20 minute walk daily you will see the benefits.

33 l [oh my: that's haute.]
Written By: Chantal Sarkisian There is nothing that excites us more than the sparkle, shimmer and glitter, that is the backbone of the holiday season. We find it in our clothes, in our homes and most certainly in our makeup. But it?s easy to get overwhelmed with choices or get a little trigger-happy when we have so many options to choose from. Whether you?re a newbie at makeup, or a pro who wants to get inspired with new techniques, this easy smoky eye & red lip combo makeup tutorial will be your ammunition for party season! Usually, I wouldn?t combine a bold lip and dark eye, but the subtle green tint in this eye shadow

palette perfectly balances the red tones on the lips. There?s a reason why we naturally gravitate to green and red, they are contrasting colours that look great together! If you don?t believe me, ask Christmas! For this look, I used Mac?s newest products and to get started I used a face primer all over, and a tinted moisturizer to even out my skin tone. I spot concealed blemishes with cover-up, and used it under the eyes and on my t-zone as a highlighter. I lightly penciled in my brows and dusted a light pink blush on the apples of my cheeks.

To start, I used a paint all over the lid to create a sticky base to help the shadow pop. I then used colour #3 all over the lid to create a nice bright and sparkly base. With a pointier brush, I used colour #5 to mark a v-shape at the edge of my eye, with the tip pointing outwards. I used #4 to cut the crease of my entire lid. I placed #1 under the brow and #2 in the inner-eye or tear duct, as they say. I blended the entire lid to soften the transition of colours. To make the look more dramatic, I added more #2 on the top of my lid and #5 in the outer corner without blending. I also lightly lined the bottom lash line with #5. Finish the look with 2 coats of mascara on the top and bottom. False lashes are optional. I love the convenience of a perfectly curated eye shadow palette. They provide loads of options and colour combinations to choose from. And when you?re feeling bold and inspired, you can use them all (just like I did in the tutorial)!

1. Invest in a good set of brushes; you?ll thank me later! 2. Practice makes perfect. Smoky eye can be a more difficult look to achieve, so start with lighter colours and get used to your technique and application. 3. Invest in high quality makeup. You?ll be amazed at the pigments, coverage and how easy they are to work with. 4. Light colours open up the eyes, and dark colours will make them smaller. Use this advice wisely depending on what look you are going for. 5. If nothing else start your makeup routine with mascara, blush and lipstick. Add more as you see fit!
Don?t Walk Past The Lovely Local Vendor... Written By: Melanie Martin On a recent trip to visit my family in Montreal we were fortunate enough to be able to squeeze in a quick trip to Finnegans Market. It was a place I had many fond memories of with my grandparents when I was a child. Many a weekend and picnic lunch was had at this wonderful market. Now with my camera in tow I was able to capture many of the vendors and funky trinkets and ?treasures? that I remembered fondly gazing upon as a child. The further we ventured into the market the more fun and unique things we found. I was very fortunate to land upon two vendors that were worth an extra moment and a little more information. The first vendor that I had the pleasure to speak with are a couple from Montreal known as Lualoha, named after there son Lucas and the word Aloha. A combination that they feel "exemplifies love, affection and peace.? If that isn?t cute enough on it?s own you should see what they are selling. It?s brilliant!!!

Turkish towels are the product and they're nothing short of amazing. These towels are made of 100% premium Turkish Cotton, which is farmed in the Aegean region next to the Mediterranean Sea, making it the softest and most durable cotton available. Neat right? Well it gets better. These towels can be used as a blanket, wrap, scarf, dress, shawl, and of course as it's original intent - a super absorbent towel. It is nice and thin and packs really neatly without taking up a lot of precious cargo space. I had to have one and it lives in my trunk and has come in handy for many things from breastfeeding to a beach blanket. It dries really fast as well which is a great quality to have when you are always on the move. They come in really nice bright colours as well which just make these a great thing to have or give as a gift. If you ever leave the house you need one of these!! Check them out at www.lualoha.com, Facebook.com/lualohadesign, instagram.com/lualohadesign Now that I have blown you away with a must have for travel and , well, everyday life really, let me help you, your friends and family decorate your walls for a very good cause. Meet Jason Goldsmith, a very friendly gentleman that I was delighted to meet and have him share his story with me. Long before Jason was a father he would dream about the conversations he would have with his future children. The topics would range from education to exploration and more. And then, Ellis was born. Ellis would not respond to his parents efforts to communicate or play with him. By the time Ellis was three years old he was still barely speaking and using less than five words. I was at this time he was newly diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. However, Jason was not going to let this 37 l [oh my: that's haute.]
prevent him from having the conversations he had dreamed of once before. So he searched for a different way to communicate with Ellis and was able to find, in my opinion, one of the best ways to communicate. Through ART! ?I read that people with Autism think in pictures? he says ?So one day I drew silverware and he understood. He got fork and knife, and I brought them to the table!? Within a four month period Ellis was drawing pictures back to his father, before long they were exchanging ideas picture by picture. During this period Jason thought this could also make for an interesting business opportunity. And that is when the Big Blue Hug came to fruition. All of the Art is made in Shadow box frames, the painting is done on transparent glass and a separate image is printed and placed on the frames background. Under a light, the image takes on an unexpected 3D perspective. 38 l [oh my: that's haute.]
Jason, also a Montreal Native, has named his company after it?s namesake piece that was inspired by a moment when Ellis drew his father a picture requesting a hug. Not only does Jason and Ellis?art teach the world a little bit more about the mystery that is Autism but it helps many families dealing with the daily struggles of communication barriers. In the future Jason is hoping to turn this endeavour into an "exceptional needs studio, hiring adults with Autism whose talents and abilities will be used to inspire greater art? Please Visit The Big Blue Hug at www.thebigbluehug.com, Facebook.com/thebigbluehug Best of all they both ship anywhere in Canada. Help out a local vendor and fellow Canadian this Christmas and make the world a better place at the same time.

Did you know that if you live in a common-law relationship continuously for 3 years, you could be obligated to pay spousal support to your partner?
Nat h alie Picar d I have been a lawyer since 1995 and truly enjoy practicing law. Every day when I come to my office, I am excited about meeting with my clients in order to guide them through difficult and stressful periods of their lives by providing plain English legal information and legal advice. For me, it is really wonderful to see my clients become empowered with the knowledge that they acquire, which enables them to make the right decisions for themselves and their families. I consider myself very fortunate to have my own firm coupled with the assistance of a wonderful team, which has enabled me to develop a unique client-centered approach to cater to the needs of my clients and their families. Having my own firm has also permitted me to focus on offering bilingual services. I am proud to say, that I am one of the rare lawyers in Ottawa that can offer non-traditional and traditional family law services in both official languages. I invite you to come and meet with me in order that we may discuss how to find the right solutions for you and your family.
44 l [oh my: that's haute.]
Most people are unaware that this obligation exists and are surprised when they learn about it. Once this right has been established (what legal professionals call entitlement), the amount is calculated. These days not only women receive spousal support but there are more and more men receiving spousal support given that we are seeing more stay-at-home dads. For common-law spouses who would like to have more control over their matters in the event of a separation, they should obtain a Cohabitation Agreement. Contact us today for more information.
