LEARNING DIFFERENCES INTERN Internship Description: Rocky Hill School, in East Greenwich, RI, is a college preparatory, co-educational independent day school serving approximately 300 students across three divisions from preschool through Grade 12. We anticipate an opening for an intern to help service students with mild learning differences. The Academic Center for Enrichment (ACE) provides academic support and tutorial services for students in grades K-12. We are searching for an individual who is currently working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Reading or Special Education. The internship will be available for the 2012-2013 academic school year. This internship would involve specific tasks, which would be supervised by staff members from ACE. Responsibilities and Benefits to the Intern Implement differentiating instruction and remedial techniques in the Lower School to students in Kindergarten through grade 5. Assist with clerical and organizational components of ACE. Provide academic support to students in the Middle and Upper Schools with study and organizational materials developed in ACE. Participate in one-on-one and team-taught instruction designed to advance students with learning differences. INTERN Internship Description: Early Intervention (EI) is home visiting program for children birth-3 with developmental disabilities and/or delays. Interns working in EI have the chance to shadow an EI therapist related to their discipline. EI therapists can be psychologists, nutritionists, nurses, social workers, educators, special educators, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists. Therpists may also have backgrounds in human development as well as communicative disorders. Qualifications: Students working towards a Bachelor's or Master's in any of the above mentioned disciplines, or have worked with children for at least 1 year, have the opportunity to complete internships. For those who have a high school dipolma or are working towards their Associate's, internships are available for working in Children with Speical Health Care Needs (CSHCN), a program for children ages 3-21 with developmental disabilities and/or delays. ATTLEBORO CENTER SPECIAL EDUCATION INTERN Internship Description: The Attleboro Center is a 12-bed Community Based Acute Treatment (CBAT) facility located in Attleboro, Massachusetts. The program provides acute psychiatric stabilization services to adolescents between the ages of 12-18 years. The Attleboro Center offers an abbreviated yet comprehensive on-site tutoring program for all its residents. CROSSROADS INTERN Internship Description: The Crossroads program is a behavioral treatment facility for adolescent males ages 13-18. The residents are referred by the Department of Childern and Families and generally exhibit behaviors such as acting out physically, sexually, and verbally. Other issues include substance abuse, educational difficulties, and interactions with the legal system. The program's goal is to assist the adolescent in his efforts to live more responsibly as well as to give him the necessary skills to reintegrate into the community, whether it be an independent living situation or a family. Services include case management, behavioral treatment, psychotherapy, psychopharmacology and aftercare. HILLSIDE ADULT DAY HEALTH INTERN Internship Description: If you wish to work in a caring environment with frail elders and disabled adults and would like to better understand the effects of aging on a diverse population, Hillside Adult Day Health Program provides a wonderful learning opportunity. Each participant is provided with an array of services such as the opportunity for socialization, peer interaction, health assessment and education, medication management and encouragement to reach and maintain maximum independence. Hillside also provides a memory disorder unit that is a calm, safe environment and provides specialized care for those with memory impairments. Along with these services for our participants, their families receive support, respite and education. Hillside Adult Day Health Center offers a variety of learning and growth opportunities for interns: Work with staff in providing counseling, case management, advocacy and other supportive services to participants.
