SUPERINTENDENT

THE

DREAM Only a few days ago I received the announcement that our camp has been offered a 2 Million Dollar Challenge Grant – YES, I SAID 2 MILLION! Every dollar that we can raise before the end of 2018 will be matched, dollar for dollar. “The Dream” awaits our response.

Statistics reveal that Oklahoma averages 52 tornadoes per year – that is one per week! The value of “a shelter during a time of storm” has become a high priority across our state. I am so thankful that thousands of people have joined in the establishment of the Oklahoma Youth and Kid’s Camp located near Sparks. The mere fact that this facility exists – is nothing short of a miracle! During the 10 weeks of camps this past summer – May, June, and July – over 7,000 people experienced an event designed to impact the NEXT Generation. Many lives were significantly impacted with the Gospel! Their future was altered; their encounters and experiences will remain lodged within their memory for as long as they live; their eternity has been redefined. For the past few months, I have been presenting the NEXT phase of construction. Hundreds have already joined me in believing that THE DREAM will become a reality! The center of THE DREAM is the construction of an F5 Rated Tornado Shelter – THE SOLID ROCK – designed to protect 1,000 people in the event that the weather bureau would issue a tornado warning. This facility would shelter all in attendance during one of our capacity camps. In addition it would provide space for additional activities throughout the week. This project is more than a “wish” – it is a “priority” - needed as soon as possible!

Question: When will construction begin? Answer: Concept design phase with architects is already complete. Construction bids are waiting on funding. We must raise $1 million dollars before moving forward. Question: How can I review additional information including current drawings? Answer: Visit our district website at www.okag.org/dream. Question: When does the fund-raising campaign begin? Answer: It has already begun! However, we believe that the next months will define the campaign. Faith promises and contributions will continue thru 2018 with a goal of receiving all funds by December 31, 2018. There are 2 active fund-raising campaigns:

STORM CHASERS

Individuals, especially from our ministerial family, that will commit to becoming a STORM CHASER by contributing at least $1,000. Many have already made this promise and contributions are being received.

WE LOVE CAMPERS

Let me share a Question and Answer session with you:

All of our churches are asked to “sponsor” their students (ages 8-18) by setting a goal of raising $400/student. Simply total the number of students in your church and multiply that number by $400.

Question: What is THE DREAM?

TOGETHER - WE WILL SEE “THE DREAM” BECOME “A REALITY”

Answer: It is a multi-functional design plan that incorporates an F5 Rated Tornado Shelter built as a gymnasium, a first-aid complex, camp administration offices, housing for camp staff and interns, conference center for retreats, an aquatic center with a swimming pool, and a “splash pad type” water feature.

MISSIONS

E VE RY T RIBE

EV E RY N AT I ON Two audacious visions come straight out of Scripture. First of

all, what we call the Great Commission is found in Matthew 28:1920. Jesus commanded, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” The fulfillment of that command is painted in the heavenly prediction given to John in Revelation 7:9. He said, “After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands.” It is utterly astounding to know that God is that committed to our obedience that He would predict the outcome.

Christ said that we would be promised His presence and power. What an assignment we have been given. But Christ said that we would be promised His presence and power. The resources are never lacking in what God has called us to do. If anything is ever lacking, it would be our obedience. Amy Carmichael, missionary among orphans in India for 55 years without a furlough, said, “All along, let us remember: we are not asked to understand, but simply to obey.” Remarkably, we do not have to understand or even have the best strategic plans to accomplish it. All that is required of us is our unreserved obedience to this unequalled command. And, the task before us is very much unfinished. According to Dr. Greg Mundis, Executive Director of Assemblies of God World Missions, “Many sources tell us that more than 7,000 people groups have no indigenous community of believing Christians to evangelize them.” He goes on to say, “As we contemplate these staggering statistics, we realize that not just millions, but billions, have limited or no access to the gospel message.” People groups within every corner of this dark world are unknowingly waiting for the Church.

Every tribe, every nation. Sounds almost too radical and undoable. But Christ would have never given a command that could not be started or finished. So, if it is in our means to obey (which it always is), then we should obey without hesitation. And, we should obey first and foremost because He said so and secondly, because we are the vehicle for His hope. With the combination of our audacious obedience and God’s zealous commitment to fulfill His heart’s desire in the world, every tribe and every nation will know Christ!

administration can be a risky proposition. You can find help all over the spectrum. Some of them are reliable, some of them less so. Some of them set out to use fear to upsell you on buying more than you need, while others seek to find a good middle ground. I have listed below some of the better resources I have used through the years. I have found them to be a reliable source of updated and relevant information.

HEA LT H Y C H U RC H E S ARE

M I S S IONAL CHURC H E S But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (ESV)

Exiting the highway, we pulled up to the stop sign to make our turn. Standing beside the road was a man holding a sign, which read, “The Struggle is Real.” With those four words, he conveyed the reality that many people face, struggling day in and day out with poverty. While I don’t know his exact situation or the circumstances that brought him to that point in his life, I do know that for many, the struggle is real. As a pastor and leader, casting vision and moving the church forward can often be a challenge to say the least. We all know that vision is life-giving to a church, yet we also know that the struggle is real in moving a church toward it’s God-given purpose and mission. While there are a plethora of suggestions concerning how to move churches forward, the word of God is clear, we must be missional in purpose in order to be a healthy church. This is not an idea that I came across because of my great creative mind, but because I was forced to think about the church and it’s purpose in a different way. I knew that the church was a sending organization and that it’s members must be involved in the ministry of the church, but moving people in that direction was challenging to say the least. However, I had a former pastor make a request that I couldn’t help but commit to. When I became pastor of Tecumseh, the former pastor asked me to commit to keeping up the missionary support that had been established. While I knew that missions was an important part of the church, this critical ministry became the lifeblood of all that we were to do in the church, community, state and around the world. The problem came when I looked at the budget verses the pledges and realized that missions giving was not adding up to the monthly missions budget. For a guy who likes for budgets to be balanced and that we build some cushion for future expenses, this became a challenge to me. Additionally, if we are going to encourage people to give, how do we motivate them to commit to missions? So for the next 15 years, we made missions a priority. The residual result was not something that I had expected.

During that period of time we never balanced the missions budget and I must say that I am glad we never did, because it not only became an important part of our church focus, but it also moved our church in a new direction. It brought new life to the church and ultimately helped us become healthier as a whole. Here are some of the benefits of being a missional church: It allows the church to see the world through God’s eyes. Seeing people through the eyes of God challenges the church to join together with what he is doing to reach the lost. Love, grace, and compassion become a defining characteristic of a missional church. It allows the church to see the big picture of Kingdom work. We begin to see that the Kingdom of God is bigger than the local congregation and that we can easily affect the work by simply joining together in partnership with missionaries and ministries around the world. Missional churches have an outward focus and will do what it takes to see the Kingdom of God move forward. It gives the church the responsibility for mission. Missional churches will take the responsibility to fulfill the needs of others and when they do, they take ownership of ministry. Being missional brings people to a new level of generosity. It gives life and vitality to the church. As we become a part of what God is doing in his Church, that he blesses our efforts. At the same time, we must recognize that becoming a missional church will put our focus on the Kingdom which will also affect how we minister locally. While this list is not exhaustive and there is not enough room for further exposition of this idea, know that being missional has a lasting and life-giving affect upon your church and ministries. Some of the healthiest churches, both large and small, are missional in nature. Blessings! Chad & Nyree

JUSTIFIED In Honor of Mother’s Day Coming Up – I Wanted To Share One Of My Favorite Inspirational Stories of Motherhood with You, from Our DOTK 21-Day Bible Study.

Gently, they laid baby Moses inside the buoyant bassinet and with baited breath, pushed it away. “Stay beside the shore and keep an eye on the cradle!” Mother told Miriam softly.

JOCHEBED THE JUSTIFIED Jochebed implies, “Glory of Jehovah.” She was the mother of Moses, Aaron and Miriam. She is the first person in scripture to have a name compounded with Jah – or Jehovah. Indeed she had a glorious finale to a hard life of heartache and despair and in the end, God justified her memory through her children. Jochebed was the quintessential Proverbs 31 lady, and her children rose up and called her “Blessed.”

See little Miriam peering timidly through the feathery foliage with her watch-full eye. Would Moses cry out? Would the curious crocodiles come ‘round? The riverbank of the Nile wasn’t the safest place for a little girl to be standing either. Perhaps they prayed to the Almighty. Divine destiny took over and He watched out over Moses and Miriam.

Jochebed was from the Tribe of Levi and was married to Amram, also a Levite. Together they had three totally amazing children. World Shakers! They are still famous to this day. They were: Moses – whose name means “drawn out of the water” (Exodus 2:10), became one of the greatest national leaders the world has ever known. God used him to free His people from bondage in Egypt. Aaron – Moses’ older brother. He became the first high priest in Israel and founded the Aaronic priesthood. God used him to speak for Moses, since Moses had a speech impediment. Miriam – The Big Sister. She was such a nurturer…no doubt learned from her loving mother; she played a major part in saving Moses from death in infancy and later became a gifted poetess and musician. At this time in Egypt, the Israelites were being used as slaves. They were in terrible bondage and unable to leave. The twelve tribes of Jacob had greatly multiplied and Pharaoh was concerned they would outnumber his Egyptian people and take over the land. So he ordered a terrible edict commanding all newborn males to be taken from their mothers and thrown into the crocodile-infested waters of the Nile River. Miriam was approximately nine and Aaron was nearly three years old at the time and Jochebed found herself heavy with her third child. Would it be a boy or a girl? She nervously wondered. Moses was a healthy, fair child the Bible says. He was so innocent and sweet…how could she just let him die? Jochebed “dug deep.” Daughters of the King always do! Her desperation gave way to resourcefulness. “I will NOT let them take my precious baby boy!” she determined. Imagine her making a little cradle that would float. With the help of nine-year-old Miriam, she gathered soft papyrus reed and palm fronds from the river’s edge and fastened it together with tar and pitch making it waterproof. Then she made it thick and it became a floatation device to carry her infant son. Finally, the dreaded day came when Jochebed could hide three-month-old Moses from the Egyptian soldiers no longer. Perhaps it was dusk, or early morning but we know Miriam pensively accompanied her mother to the water’s edge, by the bulrushes and the cattails…and the crocodiles.

The craftily made cradle drifted along on the breath of angels… right up to the palace where the Pharaoh’s daughter would be bathing and washing with her maidens. A cry was heard. “What was that?” The women wondered. “It sounded like a baby?” The sunlight danced on top of the water’s edge enabling them to see the little green basket peacefully floating by. A divine appointment. Retrieving the watery crib, they found the fair baby boy Moses, whimpering inside. He smiled up at them and cooed. Who could resist such a “Gift from the Gods”, thought the royal lady and claimed him for her own. There is no doubt she loved Moses like her own child and spared no expense raising him in the ways of the Egyptians. However, immediately she needed a wet-nurse to feed Moses and told her servants to go and find a Hebrew woman who could assist them. Clever little Miriam had stayed nearby. She wasn’t going to let anything happen to her little brother! Mustering up all her courage, she spoke out saying, “I know of a woman!” To which the Princess said, “ Go fetch her and I will pay her wages to nurse my boy until he is weaned.” The Providence of God! Jochebed was paid to nurse her own child and we can imagine how she tearfully cuddled and kissed, rocked and prayed the divine favor and protection of God upon her beloved son and as she did, Almighty God heard those mother’s prayers! He always does. Moses became the great deliverer of the Egyptian people and God used him mightily in an unprecedented way, to liberate and lead the Israelites out of Egypt, across the Red Sea and finally into Canaan Land. Without a Jochebed there would never have been a Moses. It’s impossible to overestimate the importance of her life in history, or of her powerful prayers for her three champion children. Never underestimate the power of a praying Mother or Grandmother! Happy Mother’s Day Friends!

YOUTH PASTOR BIO: HAYDEN BELL Hayden Bell is the Youth Pastor at Southpointe Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He has been in youth ministry since he was 19 and has been serving at Southpointe since August of 2017. He is currently engaged to be married to his high school sweetheart, Bailey Walker. Bailey serves on the Youth Ministry team at Harvest Time in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Both Hayden and Bailey attended Carl Albert State College together before Hayden transferred to Kingsgate College in Oklahoma City to attain a degree in Youth Ministry. Bailey is set to graduate in May of 2018 with a degree in Psychology and will continue her education at Oklahoma University. Hayden and Bailey met in high school at a youth ministry event, and began dating soon after. They dated all through high school and college, and passionately pursued Christ during that time. They served as Volunteer Youth Pastors during their first year of college where an influx of students came to know Jesus over the span of a year. They were recently engaged in January and are set to be married in June of this year. Bailey will then join Hayden in OKC where they will serve together as the Youth Pastors at Southpointe Church. Their life mission is to serve God’s people with compassion, grace, and integrity while they work to develop the next generation of church and family leaders. Their goal is to equip and inspire people to reach the lost in their cities all across the world. With that in mind, they believe that God has positioned them together for a unique purpose and has tasked them with a deep burden to see students come to know and experience the love of Jesus. Their vision is to see students from all walks of life be discipled and equipped for the task of carrying out the Great Commission. They work towards that vision every day with two words in mind: “Earn It.”

CHILDREN

NO CLOWNING AROUND ABOUT

MISSIONS My family and I had the privilege to attend Easter Sunday Service at First Assembly of God in Eufaula, OK. In response to a challenge from their Children’s Pastor and BGMC Coordinator, Diane Shaver, and the kids from First Assembly, Lead Pastor Jeff Willis agreed to preach as a clown if they could reach their goal of $1000 during March Missions Madness. Not only did they reach their goal, but they surpassed it by $500 bringing their total BGMC giving for the month of March to an incredible $1500. With Easter being on April Fool’s day, Pastor Jeff managed to tie everything together. He was able to celebrate BGMC, present a very fitting sermon that went so well with April Fool’s and Easter and by the time his sermon was over he was prepared to serve communion. Great job Eufaula First! We are so proud of you for your hard work and dedication to BGMC!
