IT ’S

CHRISTMAS!

The sights and sounds of Christmas fill the air. The

shoppers scurry in and out of businesses with bags of gifts. The traffic backs up at every major intersection. Media programing and the selection of music heard on every corner reveal that Christmas has arrived. However – Christmas must not be defined by gifts, parties, decorations or displays. What if this year we were to make “Christmas” about “people?” The first Christmas revealed the story of one “person.” JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON! He is the one that must be the focal point of attention! After celebrating the birth of “the baby,” may “others” become our emphasis this Christmas! I suggest that it begin with those closest – spouse and family – and then move outward from there until it encompasses the least and especially the lost. The OKAG functions as a result of a TEAM! This issue features many individuals that make our Oklahoma AG Ministry effective. Linda and I are blessed to be surrounded by an outstanding team of people! Perhaps every minister should retain this issue of Outlook and include the faces and the names throughout the year in daily prayers. MERRY CHRISTMAS – TO THE OKAG TEAM!

A H OLY H U G T H IS

CHR I ST M AS Some time back, I was met by a fellow spiritual leader

who said to me, “Do you mind if I ask for a hug? I really need one right now.” When I wrapped my arms around him, it didn’t take long for me to feel like I was being hugged and not the other way around. His giant frame swallowed me, tears were shed, and sincere love was felt. Actually, I was glad he asked for one. Receiving his squeeze back reminded me of how much I needed to feel the embrace of a holy hug. Interestingly, isn’t this what happens when we endeavor to be a blessing to others? We in return feel blessed. Okay, so by now, you are realizing that I’m not intimidated by a good bear hug. (Of course, not a necessarily long one.) But every time I am genuinely hugged, it leads me to reflect on the power of brotherly love and, more importantly, the Father’s love to a world that so desperately needs it.

The heavenly embrace is still being felt thousands of years later. I truly believe the Christmas season points to the original holy hug from the God of the Universe…who so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. What a dramatic moment when the Christchild was given to a teenage girl and an ordinary carpenter who welcomed lowly shepherds. We just can’t underestimate the holy experience of this love, frozen in time by this epoch scene. And, the heavenly embrace is still being felt thousands of years later. Here’s the profound truth to all of this: God’s holy hug is being returned to Him all around the world from those who embrace His Son.

This godly hug is just that significant. It matters when we receive it as well as when we give it. Walls come down. Pride is diminished. Healing is experienced. Love is shared. Acceptance is received. Yes, Christmas is that God-given opportunity to hug in a way that cannot be ignored. Actually, this is the Gospel way every day. So, come on, people – let’s unashamedly share some hugs this season. And, thank you for the many hugs you have given my family and me over the course of this year. Furthermore, let’s keep offering those holy hugs to a world that needs to sense our closeness and embrace more than ever. Please receive this written hug from the Pilcher Family. We do love you and thank God for the tremendous joy of serving you. Merry Christmas! Darren, Michelle, Ethan and Emma

FOUNDATION A legacy worth leaving is a legacy worth preserving. We believe the legacy of Oklahoma Assemblies of God ministries is worth preserving. We believe Oklahoma Mission Initiatives are worth preserving. We believe spirit-filled camps are worth preserving. We believe church planting is worth preserving. We believe continuing Pentecostal education is worth preserving. We believe the ongoing work of the Assemblies of God in Oklahoma and around the world is worth preserving. Whatever passion God has placed on your heart that reaches more people with gospel of Jesus Christ is absolutely worth preserving. This guiding principle of preservation is one reason why we believe every church should expand its stewardship plan to include an endowment fund. This is also the primary reason we established the Assemblies of God of Oklahoma Foundation (AGOKF) in 2015; to manage endowment funds that will help to invest in future generations.

5. Endowments funds are excellent ways to promote end of life giving through estate plans or planned gifts. Gifts left to endowment funds will preserve the legacy of the donor for generations to come. If you or your church believes you have a legacy worth leaving, then we believe you have a legacy worth preserving. If you would like to know more about Endowment Funds or how the AGOK Foundation can serve your church, please call our office. We would love to help you expand your stewardship strategy. *By Foundation policy, distributions are calculated as 5% of the 12 quarter rolling average fund balance.

At the end of 2018, the AGOK Foundation will distribute $15,412.21 directly into ministries that are making an impact for the Kingdom of God. This money will go to support Assemblies of God World Missionaries, Oklahoma Teen Challenge, Project Rescue, Scholarships for students attending our AG Universities, and scholarships to send kids to summer camp. Since its inception in 2015, the AGOKF has given a total of $36,500. Because this money is distributed from endowment funds established by Oklahoma AG churches and donors, these distributions will continue year after year until Jesus returns. HOW ENDOWMENT FUNDS WORK: 1. Endowment funds are permanently restricted funds which are invested for future generations. The purpose is to provide an annual source of funding to ministries until Jesus returns. 2. A church or donor can create an endowment fund with the AGOK Foundation for minimum donation of $1,000. 3. Annual distributions will begin once the fund has reached a balance of $10,000 for a period of one year. 4. Distributions of 5%* will be issued each year in December directly to the ministry named in the endowment fund agreement.

Example based on 7.5% investment return, 5% annual distribution with 1.5% fees

T H E GIFT OF

PRESENCE Christmas is always a special time of the year because

we celebrate the most important gift that has ever been given to mankind, Jesus Christ! That gift has forever changed the landscape of humanity! Through God’s incredible grace and mercy, we not only have forgiveness of sins, but also a place in eternity. Because of that, we wholeheartedly celebrate what God has generously gifted to us. No doubt there will be many gifts that will be exchanged, many parties and events to attend which will fill up our calendar in the month of December. With all the activity surrounding this holiday season, we must remember that God gave us the gift of relationships as well. In fact, one of the most important gifts you can give this holiday season is being present with the people around you. “She (Mary) will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a son and they shall call his name Immanuel.” Matthew 1.21-23 (ESV) When Jesus came to earth, His ultimate purpose was to give His life as a sacrifice for us. He was also called Immanuel, which means “God with us”. He came from heaven to earth to be present with us! While He had a mission, it did not detract him from simply “being” with people around Him. He took time and valued the relationships that He had with the people He encountered each day. To Him, each encounter was considered a divine appointment!

them as well. This is probably the most important gift that you could give someone and it is one they will cherish the rest of their lives. Let us also remember that there are those who are hurting this holiday season who may not have the supportive relationships that you and I enjoy. From the homeless, the prisoner and their families, the nursing home resident, to the clerk at Wal-Mart, and many others we will bump into. Cherish the people you have the opportunity to interact with; you never know how it will affect their life! Christmas is a most wonderful time of the year, not only for the joyous blessings we receive, but also for the blessings we give to others! May your presence be clothed in love, peace, joy, and forgiveness to bring hope to the lost and overwhelm the hurting with God’s love! Merry Christmas from the Brodrick family to you. We cherish the many friendships we have across the state and around the world. We pray that you have a wonderfully blessed season with family and friends. We love you! Chad and Nyree

Don’t allow distractions to keep you from spending time with people. Take time this year to give a gift that our families, friends, and the world around us need, the gift of your presence. WOMEN’S

MARY T H E

MAGNIFICENT Mary came from the Tribe of Judah, and the line of David. Her poor family lived in a city of Galilee called Nazareth. She became the wife of Joseph, a carpenter and later, after Jesus was born, would have four additional sons, whose names were: James, Joses, Judas and Simeon and several daughters (unnamed.) However, Joseph wasn’t the father of Jesus. God was. Mary was the first (and only) woman in history to become pregnant without having sexual intercourse with a man. It was a miracle. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be visited by an Angel? I have. Mary had this distinct privilege and it is recorded remarkably for us in Luke the first chapter. “And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.” Luke 1:27-33; & 35 Holy Moly! Imagine this. What was Mary’s response to the Angel of the Lord? (Hint: It sealed her FAVOR!) Then Mary said to the angel, “Behold the handmaiden of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” (Uh…this translates OBEDIENCE!) Its one of several reasons she’s been honored throughout the Church World for centuries. To fully embrace an impossible situation or task with child-like faith and without argument…that’s what Mary did here. She was intentional about her acceptance of the Lord’s will for her life. And God was intentional about her! In the foreknowledge of a Glorious God, He chose the time, He chose the place and yes, He chose the humble peasant Mother that would carry His Son in her womb. He chose the foster-father, Joseph who had to eek out a frugal living in a carpenter’s shop. Yes, God chose an obscure place so that JESUS would experience the common man. The Son of God didn’t grow up in the lap of luxury with servants waiting on Him. He was born in a working class family and learned to labor for everything He received…yet He was also fully God. Jesus was both fully man and fully God. God-man. “The Magnificat” (The Song of Mary), further evidences her exceptional obedience! It’s one of the most beautiful pieces of literature the world has ever received. Its prophetic poetry from the humblest of vessels. “And Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; for behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him From generation to generation. He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the

proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty. He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy, as He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and to his seed forever.” Luke 1:46-55 Listen to the divine wisdom flowing from a young, uneducated peasant girl! She was prophesying under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, foretelling the mission of Christ. She herself would bear in her womb her own Savior! Mary was as much in need of a Savior and the rest of us. Despite how the Catholic Church presents her as immaculate and remaining sinless throughout her life, there was nothing superhuman about her. No, she was fully human and part of the fallen race and recognized her need of deliverance from sin and guilt when she sang: “My Spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior!” God chose her for her pure faith and she in turn, instilled that in her infant son and throughout Jesus’ childhood. Faith in God. Mary never magnified herself- only the Lord. Her glorification as an object of worship, her function as an intercessor through whom prayers must be addressed to Christ, her ongoing care of Christ and continual influence over Him are the creations of ROME and RELIGION! We’ve been to the Vatican City over twenty-five times, in our eighty Missionary journeys and sadly, it is a shrine and a trap into Religion! The Bible says there is only one Mediator between God and man and that is Christ Jesus our Lord. Mary gave birth to the Son of God, in a lowly manger, in a barn. She witnessed him “wax strong in spirit and filled with wisdom and the grace of God was upon Him and He increased in Stature and Favor with God and man.” (Luke 2:52) However, she also witnessed Him brutally treated and rejected and was pierced herself with many sorrows each time He was. She followed Him throughout His thirty-three years of life and ministry, all the way to the foot of the cross and worshipped Him there as both a loving mother and a redeemed Daughter of the King! The very last glimpse of Mary we are given was in the Upper Room in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost. She was one of the one hundred and twenty believers who were filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in a heavenly prayer language! (Acts 1:12-14) Mary was the Mother of our Lord as well as a redeemed sinner, saved by grace. We stop short of worshipping her but we do honor her as an incredible servant of God! *Excerpt from: 2017, Daughters of the King 21-Day Devotional

we are loving every minute of it! The Corrales home is officially decorated for Christmas and our shopping mission is in full effect. The holidays can be tricky. For some of us, we get in the full cheer of the Christmas season and for others we reflect on the past and try to make the best of it.

Let us never forget who this season is about. No matter which side of the line of you fall on, let us never forget who this season is about. Take the time to share love, create new traditions or adopt old ones. Christmas will always be about Jesus and sharing His love. So again, let’s make it about Him. Merry Christmas, Oklahoma! I LOVE T H IS

TIME OF YEAR Ok….it’s December. It seems like every year when I sit down to write this article I always start it out with the same thing. I try to emulate festive holiday greetings and warm Christmas memories. Well, this year is no exception. I LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR!!!

This year on the day after Thanksgiving, the Guthrie family started dragging out the boxes and tubs of Christmas decorations that we have accumulated over the years. There were boxes from our previous house where we lived. There were boxes of school decorations from when Joy taught school. We also came across boxes of décor that was from my mom’s house. Needless to say, Christmas was all over the place.

When I saw these two ornaments, it was as if time just stopped for few moments. I tried to tell my family what they were, but honestly, I kind of got choked up a bit. The Christmas memories of years gone by began to flood my mind as I started to tell them about those two ornaments. We spent a few moments talking about them, then resumed unpacking the rest of all the other decorations. It was truly a Hallmark Christmas Movie moment. This year, may your Christmas be decorated with cheer and filled with love. Let it be filled with joy and gratitude because of all that Christ has given you. Merry Christmas from The Guthrie Family

The Christmas memories of years gone by began to flood my mind As we began to unpack and survey what to keep and what to ditch, my daughter Tori, came across a Christmas village that my mom would set out each year at her house. There were about 15 little buildings each with a light that would make the windows light up. As she started unpacking all of the accessories for the village, two figures rolled out of the tissue paper and hit the carpet. I reached down to pick them up and noticed they didn’t break. I looked closer and realized that they didn’t even go to the village. They were just packed in there-randomly. What we found were two ornaments that used to go on the tree back when I was a kid. They were my two favorite ones. I knew it was Christmas time when we would pull these out of the box. One was a solid white reindeer with huge antlers. The other was a snowman with a top hat that you could pull off his head. It wasn’t supposed to come off, I just liked to take it off.

J OY And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:8-11 I wonder how many of us have the Joy of Christmas, as we push and shove our way through departments stores, malls, or where ever we look for gifts to buy. It’s easy to feel JOY in your church and sing the Christmas carols but outside of the church building how do we feel? Where does this Christmas JOY come from? The words of Luke 2:811 tells us that the Good News is that Jesus was born, and He is the good tidings of great JOY. Part of our problem seems that we have the wrong idea about JOY. We think of JOY as the things we have in our hands. As if the money that we have provides, the value to our JOY. As if the volume of gifts that we can buy for our family and friends is JOY. None of these material things can affect how much JOY we have. We must be joyful that Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God was born and that He is our King.

G I R L S M I N I S TR I E S

We must remember Luke writes that this great JOY is to be for all people. This JOY is not just for the Jew or one group of people but it was for all people. That means it is for us today. It does not matter if you pastor a church of 10 members or 100 members. It does not matter if we must work a secular job to provide for the ministry of the church or if we are full-time pastors. This JOY is for each person. Jesus has come. He was born. He is alive. The promise has been fulfilled of his coming. The prophecy of his birth some 4,000 years before has been fulfilled. This JOY of the birth of Jesus is why we celebrate this time of the year. This is a time we set aside to joyfully declare, that the King of glory came down as a babe to bring us Good News and GREAT JOY. Christ is born, let us rejoice. Let us be joyful. Let us have the JOY that the angels talked about. JOY to the world, the Lord has come. ROYAL RANGERS

Every week across Oklahoma and the USA, boys are gathering in Royal Ranger outposts with leaders who have answered the call to impact the lives of future husbands, fathers, and professional/ service workers. The opportunity to mentor the next generation of servant leaders will have eternal rewards! This is what compels men and women to commit time and resources to a voluntary service in an adventure with boys they may or may not be related to. Abilities and skills are secondary to availability and faithfulness. A boy needs to see consistency in their life. The dedication and commitment of a leader sets a great example for not only the boy, but also his family. Oklahoma District Royal Rangers would like to see this happening in each community and city across the state. The District staff was invited to share a ministry window at each of the Kid’s Camps this past summer. Several of the Children’s Pastors requested support for getting RR ministry revitalized or re-started at their church. We have been praying for opportunities to share the changes that have been made to the program by the National Staff. We have scheduled meetings with leadership teams from churches who in the past have opted to drop this ministry from the outreach scope for their respective field of labor. Many of our district church leaders have requested support from the District RR staff to restart an outpost or for leader training. We have been praying the Lord of the Harvest would send workers to the field! Each day of life brings opportunities for divine appointments. The Royal Rangers ministry allows for intentional contact with a boy and his family that will have far-reaching and long-lasting

impact. Based on Titus 2:1-8, there is a mandate for Royal Rangers Ministry in every church. An article written by Paul Maxwell for Desiring God lists five things young men need from older men, especially those without a father. Love, Life Stories, Prayer, SelfSecurity, and Vulnerability. Boys need to gain their instruction, reproof/correction, and a solid definition for love and life from a man who is going after God’s heart. Not a perfect man, but a man who is willing to model behavior consistent with falling down and getting back up! An example of how conflict resolution happens in accordance with God’s word. This is not a condemnation of our men, it is intended to invigorate us all or “spur us on to good works”! Looking forward to the season ahead and all that God has in store! The season of giving and serving never ends! We are colaborers together! Please know we are available to meet or talk by phone.
