P LEASE! HAVE PAT IE N C E

Few people have mastered the “art” of patience. Society

has demanded instant gratification whether it involves placing an order on line and depending on Amazon Prime, earning an educational degree, or picking up a quarter pounder with fries from McDonald’s. We simply don’t like to “wait!” The Christmas Season is an exercise in patience. We criticize nosey children for picking up packages and shaking them. However, I have heard of sneaky adults that have been known to secretly unwrap a Christmas gift in advance only to re-wrap it without anyone ever knowing. Patience – please!

As we celebrate His birth during this Christmas Season, please be reminded of another advent yet to come. Simeon was a participant in the Nativity; however, Luke described him by saying, “there was a man in Jerusalem and the same man was just and devout, “waiting” for the consolation of Israel.” The Old Testament prophets were convinced the Messiah was coming – but they “waited” and never witnessed His arrival. David and Solomon wrote of His coming, but they died – still waiting.

As we celebrate His birth during this Christmas Season, please be reminded of another advent yet to come. JESUS IS COMING – AGAIN – BUT PATIENCE PLEASE! Paul described it with these words, “so that ye come behind in no gift; “waiting” for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” and again he said, “the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient “waiting” for Christ.” HAVE PATIENCE – HE IS COMING – AGAIN! MISSIONS

CHRI STMAS STORY THREE LEAD E RS H IP LE S S ON S FROM T H E

Have you ever considered that the Christmas story could in fact teach us a lot about leading others? Well, it is the scene around the greatest leader’s birth of all time. And, the key players, namely Jesus and His parents, reflected characteristics that embody what spiritual leadership is all about. Consider these lessons in three words:

1. HONOR. When the Virgin Mary told Joseph that she was with child by the Holy Spirit, he was willing to break the engagement in secret so as not to disgrace her publicly (Matthew 1:19). Of course, Joseph did not break the engagement due to a visitation from the angel of the Lord in a dream. But the truth still remains. He chose honor. Actually, the entire Christmas narrative is laced with this concept of honor. We even see the lowly shepherds being valued with the message of Christ’s birth first. Leadership is all about honor – honor for those who work with us at any level. We can only lead at the level that we honor others. 2. FAITH. How many times do we find the words “fear not” in the Christmas narrative? There was so much going on that could be described as out-of-the-ordinary. Zechariah, Mary, Joseph, and the Shepherds were all told – at key moments in the story – by angels, nonetheless, to not be afraid. And, leaders who help people move forward in their walk with Christ will be challenged to take risks and radically believe what God has said, prophetically and in His Word. Leading others does not come without moments of fear; however, the challenge is to lead with courage anyway. That’s what it means to live and lead by faith.

3. HUMILITY. It seems that the most powerful words in the Christmas story could be, “lying in a manger.” God seemingly chose an entry point that would relate the best in reaching people. Leadership is never about the leader. Christ made Himself nothing and took on the form of a servant (Philippians 2:7). Leading others doesn’t mean being “over” people, but rather getting “under” them to support and resource in the forward cause. This definition is the essence of the Christmas story and the picture of how Christ models leadership for all of us. Sure, there are other lessons we could learn from the glorious Advent story. And, I guess, in a way, leadership could be summed up by these three descriptions – honor, faith, and humility. We certainly couldn’t lead without them. Merry Christmas from the Pilcher family! FINANCE

FOUNDATION THE ASSEM BLIE S OF GOD OF OK LAH OMA

A legacy worth leaving is a legacy worth preserving. We believe the legacy of Oklahoma Assemblies of God ministries is worth preserving. We believe Oklahoma Mission Initiatives are worth preserving. We believe spirit-filled camps are worth preserving. We believe church planting is worth preserving. We believe continuing Pentecostal education is worth preserving. We believe the ongoing work of the Assemblies of God in Oklahoma and around the world is worth preserving. Whatever passion God has placed on your heart that reaches more people with gospel of Jesus Christ is absolutely worth preserving. This guiding principle of preservation is one reason why we believe every church should expand its stewardship plan to include an endowment fund. This is also the primary reason we established the Assemblies of God of Oklahoma Foundation (AGOKF) in 2015; to manage endowment funds that will help to invest in future generations.

5. Endowments funds are excellent ways to promote end of life giving through estate plans or planned gifts. Gifts left to endowment funds will preserve the legacy of the donor for generations to come. If you or your church believes you have a legacy worth leaving, then we believe you have a legacy worth preserving. If you would like to know more about Endowment Funds or how the AGOK Foundation can serve your church, please call our office. We would love to help you expand your stewardship strategy. *By Foundation policy, distributions are calculated as 5% of the 12 quarter rolling average fund balance.

At the end of 2019, the AGOK Foundation will distribute $19,507.85 directly into ministries that are making an impact for the Kingdom of God. This money will go to support Assemblies of God World Missionaries, Oklahoma Teen Challenge, Project Rescue, Scholarships for students attending our AG Universities, and scholarships to send kids to summer camp. Since its inception in 2015, the AGOKF has given a total of $56,000. Because this money is distributed from endowment funds established by Oklahoma AG churches and donors, these distributions will continue year after year until Jesus returns. HOW ENDOWMENT FUNDS WORK: 1. Endowment funds are permanently restricted funds which are invested for future generations. The purpose is to provide an annual source of funding to ministries until Jesus returns. 2. A church or donor can create an endowment fund with the AGOK Foundation for minimum donation of $1,000. 3. Annual distributions will begin once the fund has reached a balance of $10,000 for a period of one year. 4. Distributions of 5%* will be issued each year in December directly to the ministry named in the endowment fund agreement.

Example based on 7.5% investment return, 5% annual distribution with 1.5% fees

Y E AR O F T H A N K S ! Nyree and I would like to express our deepest gratitude

for the Presbyters, Men’s Reps, Cook Teams, Businesses, Media Team, Office Team, Host Churches, Volunteers, Missionaries, Pastors, and Churches who were an integral part of our 2019 Light for the Lost tour! What an honor that you partnered together with us to provide our missionaries the resources needed to reach people with the Gospel! Light for the Lost provides evangelistic resources for missionaries and missionary partners through five platforms: print, audio, video, internet, and technologies. This missional partnership began in 1953 to help our missionaries reach people with the Gospel and has had an exponential impact around the world since then! Every second, of every hour, of every day, someone is using resources that Oklahoma Light for the Lost has funded! Along with funding each of our Oklahoma Missionaries with the tools that they need for ministry, we have added two projects in 2020 that we believe will make a huge impact! 1. PROJECT RESCUE This ministry exists to rescue and restore victims of sexual slavery in the love and power of Jesus Christ. We accomplish this mission through holistic programs of physical, emotional and spiritual intervention, prevention, and restoration for women and children in sexual slavery. In 2020, Oklahoma Light for the Lost will provide gift bags that will include information on how to escape sexual slavery, connect with a Project Rescue home, and find restoration through the love of Christ! (www.projectrescue.com)

In 2020, Oklahoma Light for the Lost will provide funding for online resources, The Warrior’s Bibles, and developing the team that will connect with our service members around the world! (www.thewarriorsjourney.org) On behalf of Oklahoma Light for the Lost, our Missionaries and Missionary Partnerships around the world, we want to express our deepest gratitude for your generous support during the 2019 banquet tour! We deeply appreciate you and your partnership! Nyree and I pray that everyone will have a very Merry Christmas!

2. THE WARRIOR’S JOURNEY This online resource addresses the needs of our military service members around the world! Whether challenges arise on the battlefield, at work, in the home (or all three), resiliency—physical, mental, social, and spiritual strength—is what keeps warriors and families moving forward during times of incredible personal trial. They believe spiritual strength is the core integrator of all components of resiliency. A spiritual strength that is anchored by faith in a relationship with God-a living faith, providing unshakable hope and sense of purpose required to endure and prevail over any challenge.

RECAP

On November 22 and 23 we had our annual PB&J Retreat at

our campground in Sparks, OK. Around 200 attended this incredible weekend with an emphasis on the Power of the Holy Spirit. It was a great time of praise and worship, fun skits, and life changing time spent in the altars. Several kids were filled with the Holy Spirit and many others were even saved for the first time

If you are not familiar with what PB&J stands for, it stands for Prayer, Bible Study, and Jesus. Over the course of this weekend, we pour into the lives of our elementary students, and encourage them to start developing their own walk with Christ. It was a very special time this year and I have no doubt that it was an experience that will not be forgotten for those who attended.

As Joy and I approach our 10th year as Children’s Ministries Directors for the Oklahoma District, we want to say thanks to all who have served with us and beside us through all of our ministry endeavors. May you give and receive much love, joy, and peace this season. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

LOVE For God so LOVED the world, that he GAVE his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

- John 3:16 At Christmas time, I always reflect on God’s LOVE toward us. John 3:16 reminds us that God loves each one of us. He loves us so much that He sent his Son, Jesus, to earth to redeem each person. Every person living is the “whosoever” God loves. God’s LOVE is a Holy complete LOVE that we can never deserve. WE must live our lives expressing God’s LOVE. We can express His LOVE to those around us in a daily walk. Saying, “Thank You” and “I’m sorry” can be an expression of LOVE. The soft-spoken words of “I love you” spoken by a child to a parent or grandparent are the most precious words that one can receive and shower the recipient in LOVE.

This Christmas, remember the LOVE that God showed to us and tell him in a small voice “I LOVE YOU.” We should not just tell Him this Christmas season that we are thankful for His love and that we love Him. WE must daily come into His presence and shower our love and our thanks on Him our Father. We like to hear these words from our spouse and children and grandchildren, and so does our Father. Let’s shout it, “I love you, God.” every day and live like we love Him by spreading His love in word and deed to those around us.

MARK FITZGERALD SPANISH MINISTR IE S MAR K F ITZG E R AL D@USMISSIO NS. O R G

A SHEPHERD?

As a former children’s pastor I have my share of experience with Christmas plays and productions. Getting kids into the spirit of telling the story of Christ’s birth could be a challenge, because honestly, what 21st century youngster could understand what it was really like to be an angel, inn keeper or shepherd? All the preschoolers were naturally cast as sheep, because as an animal it was acceptable to cause a little ruckus! The rowdy boys always wanted to be shepherds mostly because of the “staff” they got to carry and I always had to confiscate the handmade props half way through the production. One 10 year old, Dillon, who I had “directed” in Christmas plays since he played baby Jesus as an infant, boldly proclaimed one year that he “wished he could be all the parts in the play” because he loved being in the production and he knew all the parts. Sadly, Dillon became a teenager. If asked, who would you have liked to be at the “first Christmas”? I’m not saintly enough to be Mary. The Innkeeper had a great line “no room!” but that’s not for me. The Angels were huge characters in the first, second and third acts of the original Christmas drama, but truly I can’t sing. And an angel would be out of character for me as 12 | OKLAHOMA OUTLOOK

those who know me best can attest. A sheep? Um, no! Too smelly. A shepherd? I think so. Sheepherders understood the excitement of the first Christmas unfolding. Luke 2:8-12, 15-18 (The Message) 8-12”There were sheepherders camping in the neighborhood. They had set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God’s angel stood among them and God’s glory blazed around them. They were terrified. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master. This is what you’re to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger.” 15-18 As the angel choir withdrew into heaven, the sheepherders talked it over. “Let’s get over to Bethlehem as fast as we can and see for ourselves what God has revealed to us.” Much love from Arlis & Liz Moon LIZ MOON GIRLS MINISTRIES LIZMOON@SBCGLOBAL.NET

APPOINTMENTS When you think you have everything planned for the foreseeable future, God may be getting ready to have a good old-fashioned “belly laugh”! I don’t think it is so much that God doesn’t want us to plan, as much as it is to keep him in the middle of the plan! A little over four years ago, I was working toward retirement and enjoying the “Papa” life. I thought it looked like a workable plan and just focused on the helps ministry at church and stay flexible for whatever opportunities would come along. Then I was approached to take an active role as District Royal Rangers Director. I have settled into a routine of fitting the Royal Rangers activities into my calendar and thoroughly enjoy the increased interaction with leaders and boys involved in all aspects of the ministry. Last summer, while attending Kids Camp with the kids from Jones Assembly of God, I had another divine appointment with the girls’ coach from our church. The wheels of change started moving again, and I find myself now in the role of support staff at Jones Elementary School. I have had multiple opportunities to interact with students, parents, and staff in a way I have never realized in my life.

ROYAL RANGERS

Allowing God to “lead us” and be available to Him sometimes takes us out of our comfort zone. It may put us in the path of someone who may not even know the greatest need in their life is a loving Father who would give anything to be in a relationship with them! I have purposed to learn something new every day. God is continuing to use the talents He placed in me and also developing unrealized skills that may were buried long ago. With a new year of ministry approaching, I believe the horizon looks incredible for Oklahoma Royal Rangers. Many churches have revitalized the ministry to boys! If we can be of assistance in any way, please contact Dean Guthrie or me. I have met with pastors, outpost coordinators, and kid’s ministry lead teams.
