SUPERINTENDENT

2020 V I SI O N T H E YE AR OF

The launching of a New Year affords multiple opportunities

for review as well as projection. With the writer of old, the OKAG can stand and say “Hitherto the Lord hath helped us!” Who could have imagined that we have closed another decade and still not have witnessed the rapture of the church? Prophesies have been fulfilled; the world is catering on a crisis; sin abounds on every hand – and yet – God has extended His hand of grace and mercy. The message that we have preached must remain front and center as we anticipate the future and cast a vision for the coming year. JESUS IS COMING SOON! TODAY IS THE DAY OF SALVATION. WE MUST WORK WHILE IT IS DAY FOR THE NIGHT IS COMING! As each of us set new goals and resolutions, I trust that Kingdom principles will dominate our dreams and our plans. THE CHURCH MUST NOT ALLOW COMPLACENCY – FOR WE HAVE BEEN STAGNANT FAR TOO LONG! I pray that as a Fellowship of believers in Oklahoma, we will determine to make this “the decade of difference!” May The Church rise up and proclaim that Jesus is Lord!

SECTIONAL COUNCILS During the month of February, Linda and I are excited about sharing fellowship with our friends and family across Oklahoma! I would encourage every minister to make plans now to attend at least one of the scheduled fourteen meetings. It would be preferable to attend “your” Sectional Council; however, if that date or time conflicts with your calendar – choose another meeting NOW and reserve the location and time in the midst of your busy schedule. Sectional Councils are designed as a time of inspiration. We need one another as we are better together! Don’t miss the few hours set aside for fellowship and renewal as all of our days are numbered and time waits for no one! Whether you are a pastor, staff member, missionary, evangelist, volunteer, or even a newly credentialed minister – attending a Sectional Council must be a priority. Several members of your OKAG Team will be in each Sectional Council. You will benefit from spending time with them and allowing us to share ministry loads together. In addition, each meeting that is a morning schedule will include a business meeting specifically for the election of your Sectional Presbyter.

ARE YOU A STORM CHASER? Our Youth Camp and Kid’s Camp Property is actively under major construction. Rafters, concrete blocks, plumbing supplies, and a seemingly no end of concrete trucks have become a regular sight as our F5 Tornado Shelter has risen out of the ground. What a beautiful sight!

The walls have now reached their maximum height and heavy metal beams are presently being welded across the top of the structure. Thanks, for praying for our January weather! God has granted some extra blessings by extending the temperature and supplying some good days that have allowed work to continue that might have otherwise been delayed. The next question, however, has become a priority for me. ARE YOU A STORM CHASER??? We are in the midst of two major fund-raising efforts. Between now and the end of April 2020, the final edited list of STORM CHASERS is being prepared. Many have given (and for this we are MOST appreciative); however, those contributing $1,000 or more will be listed individually on a plaque that will be permanently placed inside the new structure. Join the number by demonstrating your personal support! Be a STORM CHASER! The successful completion of this project – that will with-stand storms for decades to come – depends on an army of 1,000 individuals contributing $1,000!

MISSIONS

TO P RAY A S MART P RAYE R

There are at least three reasons to pray about a new season

you are entering: you aren’t there, you’ve never been there, and, most importantly, God is already there. Depending on our own understanding is, frankly, one of the greatest errors in human history. The Bible teaches us, however, that not depending on our own understanding and trusting fully in God comes with a profound promise – God will show us which path to take (Proverbs 3:5,6). This reminds me of the time when our then four year old Emma and my wife, Michelle, were taking a walk this time of year. It got cold, so they headed back to the house. When Michelle could not get the keypad on the garage to work, Emma prayed out loud, “Oh, Lord, you see us down here…” She continued to pray while Michelle tried to quiet her down so she could concentrate on the problem. The door then opened for them.

If we are not conscious of it, our “adult-like faith” steers us into a dependence on human understanding. If we are not conscious of it, our “adult-like faith” steers us into a dependence on human understanding. The new king Solomon prayed, “Now, O LORD my God, you have made me king instead of my father, David, but I am like a little child who doesn’t know his way around… Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours?” The Scripture reveals that God was pleased with that prayer request for wisdom. And, because Solomon didn’t ask for a long life, wealth or the death of his enemies, God granted his request and made him the wisest man on earth (1 Kings 3:3-15). Oh, Lord, you see us down here is a very big part of the smart prayer to pray. Getting wisdom is all about having a deeper surrender and a simpler faith. Dallas Willard said, “We do not need more intellects, more wealthy people, more educated people. No, what we need is more deep people.”

Deep is who I want to be and deeper in humility as the by-product of leaning into the wisdom of Christ is where I want to go. Here’s my Scripture focus for the new year: “If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom” (James 3:13). Great grace makes it achievable. I’m going to make a safe assumption that all of us will need to pray that smart prayer so as to receive from the One who’s already there – there in our tomorrows as He has been very much in our yesterdays and todays. The invitation to ask is here: “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you” (James 1:5). Join me at the beginning of this new year in this smart prayer to pray. If you are anything like me, it won’t be the last time you pray it.

NEED A LICENSE? D OES OU R C H U RC H

The use of technology in today’s church has become of

great importance. With the adoption of social media, streaming technologies, and the smartphone; churches can reach nearly anyone, anywhere in the world. Although churches can now take advantage of this, it is vital to ensure that they are compliant with copyright law. The Copyright Act of 1976 creates protection for creators of original content, including literary works, movies, music, and visual art. Churches are not exempt from this law, even with religious status, so it is essential to ask a simple question: “Do we need a license for that?”

With the adoption of social media, streaming technologies, and the smartphone; churches can reach nearly anyone, anywhere in the world. In short, the answer is probably, “yes.” The following examples are times when your church needs to have the proper license: • • • • • • •

Projecting lyrics onto a screen Playing recorded music before or after a service Recording your entire worship experience when it includes music Showing video clips in service, or having movie nights Streaming your service in its entirety, specifically when including live worship performances Posting full worship services to podcasts or a video outlet online, specifically when including live worship performances Music playing under original video content (testimony videos, announcement videos, etc.)

This list is by no means exhaustive, and it is essential to research what steps your church will need to take to ensure it is compliant. Below are a few websites that can provide more information about the type of license you might need: https://christiancopyrightsolutions.com/ https://us.ccli.com/ https://us.cvli.com/

MAY YOU BE

Fall is the most wonderful season of the year! The heat

of summer gives way to cooler weather, changing colors, and the opportunity for some fantastic outdoor activities! Not only is it a great season for football, deer hunting and being outdoors, it is a time we have the privilege of sharing what God is doing around the world! Our 2019 Light for the Lost Tour began right after District Ministers Retreat and the start of Oklahoma School of Ministry.

It is such a privilege to partner with, encourage, strengthen, and mobilize women to fulfill their ministerial call. Our prayer is that God will multiply their efforts and that we will rejoice in eternity, all that God has done through their lives!

Throughout the tour, we have been so grateful for all of the men’s reps, host pastors, presbyters, volunteers, and steak teams who partner together with us to share the vision for 2020! These incredible leaders have blessed us and many of the congregations who joined us along this journey. We are praying God’s richest blessings rest upon each and every one of them! During this tour, we not only shared missionary stories, but conveyed the thankfulness of missionaries who receive the tools they need, to be effective on the field. I am grateful that our missionaries partner together with us throughout this tour to make each banquet such a success. I pray that our support through Light for the Lost will provide every tool that they need to reach as many people as possible in the days to come! Additionally we shared our vision to partner together with Project Rescue and the Warrior’s Journey in the coming year. These incredible ministries are not only changing hearts, but changing and rescuing lives! Our partnership together with them will make a massive difference in the issues of sexual slavery and the spiritual health of our great service members around the world. Thank you to the pastors and churches across our state who have been so faithful to partner with us in Light for the Lost! What a blessing!

OKNWM The Oklahoma Network of Women’s Ministers has been gaining momentum since it’s inception. We are so grateful for the women across our state who have responded to the call of God upon their lives. We believe that their ministry is a much-needed voice in the church and in our world.

We want to remind you that December 7th is our Annual Heritage Christmas luncheon for our senior adults. This is an amazing opportunity for our senior adults to be encouraged and strengthened by joining together for a day of fellowship and ministry. Not only will you find information in your mail, but you can go online to www.OKAG.org/senior for more information and to register your group. We are truly grateful for each and every ministry partner across our state. It is such a privilege to work with incredible leaders who are pursuing their call and encouraging others along the way. We have been blessed by many of the ministry leaders throughout the years. We pray that in this Thanksgiving season you will be blessed and strengthened. Thanks for all you do!

YOUTH

EXC IT E D FOR T H E

FUTURE Where should I start? Because of YOU, Convergence was a

homerun this year! I am still amazed at what God did that weekend.

Last year we were pretty close to capacity with 800+ in attendance at Victory Family, so we knew we would have to find bigger venue for 2019. People’s Church graciously became our new host and we grew to over 1,200 student and leaders. I know numbers aren’t everything, but more numbers means more impacted souls.

But the attendance numbers were not the numbers that surprised us the most. You may or may not know, every year at youth convention we take up an offering specifically for Speed the Light. This year we saw a 500% increase in our offering! Do you know why?

HEATH CORRALES YO UT H M IN IST RIE S H EAT H . C O R R A L E S @ O K AG . O R G @ H EAT H C O RR A L E S

Because of teenagers. If you are looking for someone who is ready to move and make a difference, look no further than the youth of your church. This generation of young people is eager to contribute and be a part of the miracles of God.

“See a need, Meet a need” is what we heard from our guest speaker Micah MacDonald. We saw an incredibly powerful response and the teenagers of Oklahoma were able to contribute over $9,000 that will go towards Free International, an organization which fights to Find, Restore, Embrace and Empower victims of Human Trafficking.

A big thank you to all of YOU, our District family, Oklahoma Youth Pastors and leaders for bringing your students. To the People’s Church staff, the OYM team (interns and volunteers) and all who helped make that weekend happen, thank you! Thank you to Pastors Robert Madu and Micah MacDonald for delivering powerful messages. And, of course, thank you to our amazing Superintendents Frank and Linda Cargill for believing and investing in the next generation. How can you not be excited for the future? Be Blessed Oklahoma! NEW YEAR!

If Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, I

think January and the months that follow have got to be the busiest. I certainly hope that everyone had a terrific Christmas and a very blessed few days of the New Year. However, as we begin to pack up the Christmas décor here at the OCM office we are reminded that 2020 is coming towards us at full force and we have got to be ready! We just want to share a few happenings that will be taking place from now until the first of Spring. NEW OCM CHILDREN’S PASTORS FACEBOOK PAGE We have created an all new Children’s Pastors page on Facebook. This is a page that is for children’s pastors only. It will be a forum that we can use to openly discuss good ideas, bad ideas, tricks of the trade, and all kinds of things that are pertinent to kid’s ministry. One thing that we are excited about is the live stream feature that begun January 16th. Dean and Joy will be broadcasting the first in a series of weekly livestreams talking and discussing all things regarding Oklahoma Children’s Ministries. We are so excited to begin this venture and being able to reach out to our Children’s pastors and leaders on a weekly basis. OCM THUNDER NIGHT Our annual OCM Thunder night is fast approaching. On February 7th the OKC Thunder Take on the Detroit Pistons at the Chesapeake Center at 7pm. Tickets for this event are $75. That includes your ticket to the game, Thunder Summit Box seating, unlimited refreshments (hot dogs, popcorn, cookies, soft drinks) and a picture on the court after the game. For more details contact the OCM office at (405) 475-1172. KIDS CAMP CLINIC This event is usually held in the middle of February at our campground in Sparks. This year however, we are going to be doing a livestream/video format on our OCM Facebook page on February 15th. That way, you can watch the clinic from the comfort of your home or go back and watch it at a time that is convenient for you. More details coming as we get closer to the date.

We certainly hope that this article was useful in calendar planning of 2020. We pray that in the New Year God expands your ministry to a height that you thought were impossible. If there is anything that the Oklahoma Children’s Ministries Department can do for you, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Have a very blessed New Year! Dean and Joy
