NEED Experience has proven the importance of higher education. Within our Fellowship, we have an opportunity to impact the future generations through financial investment in Assemblies of God higher education.
Each room will need: • • • • • •
2 beds/mattresses x $418 each 2 desks x $268 each 2 desk chairs X $73 each 1 microfridge x $431 1 wardrobe closet x $538 2 dressers x $290
Total cost per room, including shipping, will be $3,300. Would your church be willing to contribute to this missions project? Perhaps even sponsor more than one room? If not an entire room, select some of the specifics listed above?
American Indian College, located in Phoenix, Arizona, is absolutely dependent on contributions. Oklahoma is one of three districts, Arizona and New Mexico are included, that are specifically responsible for the continued operation of this phenomenal institution. Our three districts have a population in which Native Americans have a predominant presence. Oklahoma has the largest number of Native Americans within our borders than any other state in our nation! Facts regarding American Indian College: • AIC was originally founded in 1957 by missionary Alta Washburn who saw the great need to prepare Native Americans for church ministries. • AIC is the only Christian college campus serving primarily Native American students. • The administration, faculty, and staff of AIC are passionate about equipping a new generation of leaders. • AIC alumni include pastors, educators, business professionals, tribal leaders and others who are bringing positive change to their communities. American Indian College desperately needs renovation and new furniture for 40 dorm rooms. Each room will serve two students. I believe that Oklahoma can meet this need and provide new accommodations for these 80 students as they walk on campus this fall.
Please make the check payable to: Oklahoma Assemblies of God. Mail your support directly to: H. Franklin Cargill – P O Box 13179 – Oklahoma City, OK 73113. I will personally see that every contribution is sent directly to AIC and we will believe God for a miracle. Please respond as soon as possible and we will strive to have the dorm rooms equipped with new furniture before this coming fall semester. Thanks for your heart for Native American ministry!

MISSIONS
TH E MIS S ION ARY
PI P E L I NE Are you praying that the Lord of the harvest will send out
workers into his fields (Matthew 9:38)? If so, the Holy Spirit might be speaking to them about missions. Certainly, there are many ways and places to serve. I do believe, however, that God is raising up a prayer army to pray in a new radical generation of missionaries. Some time back, the Lord impressed upon my heart to pray 1 Samuel 2:26 over my son, Ethan. After praying this specifically over him for some time, it became apparent that this was a prayer for his generation – that the Spirit would cause ones within a culture where there was a spiritual leadership vacuum to grow in favor with God and people. The Lord of the harvest is answering our prayer! Here are suggestions in partnering with the Lord as He is sending workers to the nations: 1. Continue to pray that God will speak to a young generation. 2. Give opportunity for the young to hear from missionaries and missions stories. 3. Encourage short-term missions experiences. 4. Preach global evangelism often. 5. Make room in corporate settings for God to speak.

Let us remember that the local church is where the missionary comes from, and the local church is who sends, by the calling of the Holy Spirit. So, our sensitivity to what God is doing and saying in our midst is critical to the part we play in global impact. As J. D. Greear writes, in his book Gaining by Losing, “The church is now Jesus’ vehicle for the completion of his mission.” This is the church’s reason for being…on campuses, in communities and among cultures. As you and your team encounter conversations with individuals who are interested in missions, check out Wide Open Missions (www.wideopenmissions.org), the placement service of Assemblies of God World Missions. This resource provides a practical missionary pipeline for those considering short-term and/or career missions. Also, please feel free to reach out to our office. We are always here to serve you.

THE POWER OF BI-VOCAT ION AL
MI NI STRY
Like many of my friends in vocational ministry, I began my
ministry on a part-time basis. I was 24 years old. I had a young wife. I had a new baby. I had a Bible-college degree. I had a few ministry opportunities in front of me, but none of them were going to enable me to take care of my immediate financial obligations. So I did what many church leaders have done, and what many church leaders are still doing today; I got a second job. For almost two years, I worked a full-time job outside of the church, and a part-time (more like…fulltime) job inside the church. Let me be frank. I would like to say that I took that second job with gladness. But the fact remains, I did not. I worked that second job begrudgingly and solely out of responsibility to family. I knew it was the right thing to do, but I was not thrilled about doing it. In fact, for the first few months I resented the job. After all, God had called me into the ministry! God had called me to do His work in the Church! Right?!?!?! I didn’t get my college degree to work two jobs. Seriously, who wants to do that?
1. I have a great deal of respect for you. 2. I believe your ministry is just as valid as those of us who work vocationally full-time. 3. I believe the opportunities for real relational development with unchurched folks is greater outside the church than inside the church. 4. I believe you are right where God wants you. Bi-vocational ministry may be a season in your life. On the other hand, it may be how you live your life. Whatever the case, there are many of us who have done it, and many more who are doing it still. Allow God to shape your perspective during this time and you will see fruit that is beyond your wildest dreams.

“I was building real relationships with people who were far from God”
MINISTRY
M A D E
Fortunately, as He often does, God broke through my stubbornness and stupidity and opened my eyes to the tremendous opportunity in front of me. Working that second job gave me ministry opportunities that were tragically missing from my church job. Namely, I was building real relationships with people who were far from God, and they seemed fine with it. My time in Bible-college did not prepare me for relationships with folks like this. I was prepared to work with people in the church; people who are good at hiding their sin and their struggles. I was making friends with people who were open and un-convicted about their sin and struggles, and it was uncomfortable for me. I am grateful for those times of discomfort, because they changed me. They changed my perspective on ministry. They changed my perspective on people. They made me a better person and a better minister. My frustration during that season of life was based on this one lie. I believed that in order for my ministry to be valid and effective, I had to be working full-time in vocational ministry. I know now, that is not the case. My ministry during that season was effective. It was valid. To all of my ministerial colleagues working in bi-vocational settings, let me say a few things to you.

D E S P E RAT E
PRAYERS Luke 11:1 (ESV) — 1 …“Lord, teach us to pray…” In the 2015-2016 season of the NFL, the Green Bay Packers were having a challenging year to say the least. After winning their first six games of the season, something changed and they lost four out of the next five games. Which put their chances of making the playoffs in serious question. So when they came to Detroit to play the Lions on Thursday, December 3, they were in dire need of a win if they were to have any chance at all. However, by the third quarter, they were down by 20 points and everyone began to doubt that they would be able to make a comeback. It seemed that they were have a difficult time making any progress with the ball and they were having difficulty playing as a team. But the Packers never gave up. Scoring 2 touchdowns in the latter part of the third and another on in the fourth, they had narrowed the score to 23-21. Yet by the end of the fourth, it looked as if the Packers were not going to pull off a win as the last play of the game resulted in Aaron Rodgers being tackled for a loss. The Lions, however, had committed a facemask penalty, which resulted in the Packers being awarded one more play. One last chance to score a touchdown and win the game with no time on the clock and buried deep on their own 39yard line. Rodgers takes the snap, scrambles from the defenders and let’s loose on a 61-yard “Hail Mary” pass to the end zone. A pass with a prayer. Amazingly, Richard Rodgers caught it in the end zone for a gamewinning touchdown. The play was dubbed the “Miracle in Motown.” Not only did they win the game, but were able to advance to the playoffs. I use this story, not because I am a Packers fan (go Broncos) but because there is an important illustration to this story that we can gain encouragement from. As ministry leaders we go through seasons of our lives and ministries where victories seem to come easy. Miracles are happening, new doors are opening, tithes are up as well as our attendances, and we have an abundance of volunteers (just kidding…we never have enough volunteers)! Then something happens. Sometimes we can explain it, other times it is a mystery and we find that the victories have taken a leave

of absence, compliments have been replaced by complaints, we struggle with decisions, messages are not hitting home, and we need a miracle, a spark, a victory, an answer. I believe that we face these difficult seasons in our lives, not because God has left us, but because of the opportunity it affords us to deepen our persistence in prayer. Think about your times of desperation where you have had to dig deep, connect with God, and experience a breakthrough. When God answered your prayer and you know that it could not be explained any other way except that God came though on your behalf!
“Desperate people pray and take one more shot believing that it’s not over until He says it is.” When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray, it wasn’t because they didn’t understand what prayer was, for they had been taught this from childhood, but because they saw the results of His prayers. While they may have not been at a point of desperation when the question was asked, they certainly had opportunity for desperate prayers after Jesus’ death and resurrection. They may have remembered when He concluded His teaching on prayer when He said that the Father would “give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.” The results speak for themselves in Acts 2. Desperate people pray and take one more shot believing that it’s not over until He says it is. Jesus gave us a key component to prayer that everyone of us need in our lives and ministry. Father, give me your Spirit! He will always answer this prayer. Father, I ask that you would reveal your Spirit to each ministry leader across the state of Oklahoma. May your power and presence ignite a flame in the hearts of your church and that you would guide each one in the plans that you have for them. May they experience provision, empowerment, open doors of opportunity, miracles, signs and wonders. May the desperate prayers of your people be answered with the abundance of Heaven’s blessings! Amen.

CHILDREN
A K IDS CAMP P RAYE R
CHECKLIST Kids Camp is here. Thank you so much for supporting Oklahoma
Children’s Ministries and our Kids Camp ministry. We anticipate great things this summer at Sparks as we celebrate and enjoy Christmas in July during “A Kids Camp Christmas!” A few days ago a link to a blog popped up in my inbox about things that churches could pray for during the time their kids are away at camp. I felt compelled to include it in this article and encourage our churches all across Oklahoma in praying for our campers as they start Kids Camp this month.
We would like to see God: 1. Save souls and transform lives. Pray for the lost, the backslidden, and the hard-hearted. 2. Show up supernaturally. Pray for Jesus encounters during the worship through songs, the Word, and response times. Pray campers and leaders experience the Holy Spirit and His life-changing power. 3. Touch each camper relationally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Pray for healings and miracles.
6. Work though camp speakers and worship bands. Pray their messages will be exactly what the campers and leaders need to hear from the Lord. 7. Protect all those at camp. Pray for the safety and health for every camper and leader. 8. Encourage, equip, and empower pastors and leaders during the camp. Pray the camp will help them in ministry when they return home. 9. Meet all the needs of the camp leadership teams, camp staff, and church leaders. Pray for God to give them wisdom as they minister to campers and make critical decisions. 10. Make this the best week of the year for each camper who attends. Pray for fun, joy, and adventure. Thanks again for entrusting us with you kids this summer. We look forward to seeing you in Sparks. Kids Camp Here We Come! Dean & Joy
4. Help campers dealing with unforgiveness. Pray they are able to let go and receive all God has for them. 5. Remove all distractions that would hinder campers from receiving all God has for them. Pray that addictions and spiritual strongholds would be broken from their lives.
