SUPERINTENDENT

OUR SINCERE

AP P R EC I AT I O N

Linda and I were honored beyond any stretch of imagination

by the thoughtfulness and the kindness of our Oklahoma Ministry Family during our recent District Council on Tuesday morning, April 26th. Thank you seems woefully inadequate for the numerous cards of appreciation and for the unbelievable love offering! We especially want to thank all of those involved with this “surprise” as we had no idea that plans were being made to celebrate our 40 years of service to the Oklahoma District Council. Who would have known what now has become history? In May of 1976 we walked into the role of District Youth Director (then known as D-CAP, District Christ’s Ambassadors President) not knowing what the future held. Then in October of 1983 the District Council in session elected us, while still serving as D-CAP, to assume the office of Assistant District Superintendent and our lives were sent into a spiral.

For those who are not already signed-up and committed to the 2016 Century Leadership Journey, let me encourage you to take action immediately by contacting Darren and registering for the events already scheduled for this coming year. The impact of quarterly roundtables, interaction with colleagues and outstanding guests will profoundly contribute to your effectiveness not only in the immediate, but for the rest of our life. Some may question the cost – but – please keep this in mind. The expense of the one-year journey is less than one credit hour of seminary instruction. I know of no other means that will potentially influence your leadership development than participating in our own Oklahoma Century Leadership Journey.

DIRECTOR ANNOUNCEMENT

In 2000 we attended the Annual District Council while currently serving in the joint capacity of Pastor of Oklahoma City Capitol Hill Assembly and Assistant District Superintendent; however, we left the meeting accepting the decision of the council body as District Superintendent. We often ask each other, “Where have the years gone?” THANK YOU for allowing us to serve our Fellowship! THANK YOU for the tremendous honor that you have bestowed upon us! THANK YOU for “the celebration” done first-class and the generosity of so many of our ministers and churches from across Oklahoma!

2016 DISTRICT COUNCIL What a fantastic group of people that attended our 2016 District Council and Century Leadership Conference. It was a significant time of hearing from God for so many individuals. I have been delighted to receive numerous affirming and complimentary words from across our district family. I especially want to express my appreciation to Pastor Herbert Cooper and People’s Church for their tremendous hospitality and participation. Their facilities were outstanding and their worship team was inspiring! Their church team was so supportive and accommodating! Their people demonstrated warmth and friendliness that was above and beyond! The valuable contribution of our Century Leadership Team, led by Darren Pilcher, was without question one of their finest conferences to date. Thank you, Pastor Pilcher, for your heart and your dedication to investing in our Fellowship. Century Leadership Conference was marked by quality presentations, efficient format and schedule, plus a powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit as we received from God.

The Oklahoma District joyously celebrates the announcement of a new ministry team couple. Welcome to Darren, Michelle, Ethan, and Emma Pilcher who have assumed the office of Oklahoma District Missions Director and Executive Pastor! We look forward to the plans the God has for the future. Our best days are yet to come! Thanks, Pilcher Family, for the excellent job of leadership in the capacity of Oklahoma Church Ministries Directors and are confident that God has His hand upon your lives as you lead us in this new assignment.

A NECESSARY

Yogi Berra said in 1947 when thanking the people of St. Louis

THANKS!

who were taking a day to honor him, “I just want to thank everyone who made this day necessary.” Well, it’s those of you who give your heart and soul to God’s call that make our days of serving, partnering, and networking necessary. Many thanks to those who attended this year’s Century Leadership Conference. The tremendous speakers and music greatly resourced all of us in our fields of ministry and leadership! Your participation certainly makes this leadership development initiative necessary. Also, please accept my deeply necessary appreciation for your belief in us over the years. My family and I are celebrating our seventh year in this present role of Church Ministries, and your warm reception and genuine friendship have made our partnership with you both fulfilling and rewarding. As you are aware, we have accepted a new assignment among our Oklahoma Assemblies of God family as Director of Missions and Executive Pastor. We are truly thrilled about this new assignment and are eager to deepen relationships and create new ones.

The assignment of Church Ministries which includes all adult ministries, Men’s and Women’s Ministries, and resourcing our missionaries through Light For the Lost giving and LIFE pledges, will continue on with capable leadership. The announcement of both the new Church Ministries and Women’s Ministries directors is soon forthcoming. So, thank you for the opportunity to continue to serve you. The days ahead are rich with opportunity because of the ministry we share together. Michelle and I truly believe in you and the necessary fellowship that helps to empower us as we joyfully and expectantly obey the Great Commission.

CHURCH

LEADING FROM A

Clean Slate

What are your priorities this year? What are you endeavoring

to accomplish? How are you planning to get it all done? Every leader needs an opportunity to re-evaluate and refocus on what this whole leadership thing is all about. Specifically, thinking long and diligently on what it means for us to be a leader is the idea behind a healthy season of re-positioning. That’s why I really like the beginning of a new year and how it can offer a fresh start and perspective. In this first couple of weeks of 2016, consider authentically asking yourself these questions for starters: Who am I called to be as a leader? Who am I called to lead? How should I lead them? Where do I want them to go? How can I get better at leading? With every new year I truly believe God grants the opportunity to dream, plan, and start again. We are given the privilege of unplugging ourselves from the past. As leaders, nothing speaks of freshness, focus, and new energy more than a clean slate. The last thing our followers need is a leader who is distracted with unfinished projects and cluttered by an unsettled or, even worse, and unforgiving heart. So, take time this week to really “unplug.” Ask the Holy Spirit to help you identify and let go of the luggage that would potentially weigh you down as you endeavor to enter strong into the new year. Another way to lead with a clean slate is to allow Matthew 6:33 to be the compass for your days: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” What if we honestly sought first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness every day? I know, we are human and riddled with imperfections, but God is perfect, and with His help, we can more successfully put Him in the rightful place daily. Think in terms of seeing this practically. What does it look like for you to seek first God’s Kingdom and righteousness today? Rick Warren has provided a nice acrostic to the word F.I.R.S.T. - FINANCES, INTERESTS, RELATIONSHIPS, SCHEDULES, TROUBLES. With God’s help, we can lead in putting Him first in our finances, considering Him first in our interests, allowing Him to be first in all of our relationships and connections, seeking Him first when it comes to our potentially crazy schedules, and going to Him first when we are faced with a trouble or challenge. When God is FIRST, we will not have to worry about how we will be supplied for our calling nor feel the need to control situations or people. When God is FIRST in the leader’s life, everyone ultimately wins!

The slate is clean…at least for now. If we do not pause and take the necessary time to evaluate and plan, the earthly drift will take over. And, before we know it, our lives will be over-crowded and way too complicated. Eugene Peterson paraphrases the sobering warning from 1 John 2:15: “Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father.” The only way we can effectively prohibit our love for the Father from being squeezed out of our days this year is to intentionally take time to reflect, refocus, and, if necessary, re-adjust to God being FIRST in our life and leadership while the slate is still essentially clean! Lead from that clean slate this year!

Place of Hope

WOMEN’S

On January 15th, over 1500 ladies gathered around our state to

make a difference for missions. It was a night of excitement and fun as we met in 13 locations. This year’s project was the Place of Hope, Ladies Teen Challenge of Uruguay. We have joined with Oklahoma Missionaries Trent & Tina Morrow to see a new kitchen built for this ministry. The offering for this year’s LIFE project totaled $19,500! Thank you for your sacrifice and obedience in giving to this need! LIFE pledges continue to come in and have already reached over $100,000. We are full of anticipation to see what God does through Oklahoma Women’s Ministries in 2016!

20 16 OCM LIVE!

It just seems like yesterday we were checking the cabins for

things left behind, putting things away in our storage unit, ready to lock the gate behind us and start driving home. After five weeks at our Sparks campgrounds, Kids Camp 2015 was wrapped up and in the books. But here we are, just a few weeks away from this year’s Kids Camp season. I would have to say that after six years of directing camps, this is probably the one that I have most looked forward to. In the past we have had some amazing evangelists come through our camps, but God has put it on my heart that 2016 is going to be a banner year for Kids Camp in Oklahoma! Our evangelists are very excited and have already started praying for a great camp. Joy and I have also been praying for God to do some amazing things as well. At the end of May, we gather with our Kids Camp leadership team and our Kids Camp Interns to start training and preparation for camp this summer. Pastors, Children’s Pastor/Leaders, Moms and Dads, would you join us in praying that this summer’s Kids Camp would be like no other? Would you pray that God would bless each kid from the time they set foot on our campgrounds until they load up to go home on Friday? Thanks in advance for standing in the gap for our campers and supporting Oklahoma Children’s Ministries. We could not do what we do without your prayers and support. Here’s to a great Summer! See you at Camp, Dean and Joy

Worship services at Kids Camp are full of high-energy praise and devoted worship all centered around one thing, lifting up the name of Jesus. That’s why we are excited to announce that this year you can take the Kids Camp praise and worship experience home with you. OCM LIVE: Kids Camp Worship is a collection of songs that was recorded last year during our 2015 Kids Camp season and will be available this summer at camp.
