SUPERINTENDENT
EXC IT E D FOR T H E
DAYS AHEAD For the past 4 ½ years Mike Buie served with excellence
as the Presbyter for Section 5 West. Mike and Pam accepted the pastorate of Crosspoint Church in Sand Springs in 2002. The church has grown and prospered under their leadership. Recently they resigned as lead pastors and former associate pastor, Luke Crain succeeded them. As a result the section elected a new Sectional Presbyter during a special called business meeting on September 27, 2018.
We welcome Jason Byers as the newest member of the Oklahoma Leadership Team! Jason and Brenda Byers have served as lead pastors of Barnsdall Assembly of God since June of 2014. They married in 2002, and have three wonderful children: Braden (11), Bryce (9), and Jalyn (8). The family feels called to rural ministry and reside in the town of Barnsdall, OK, population: 1,200. Jason began his ministry calling in 1999 at Mannford Assembly of God under Don Yandell, where he also met Brenda, who was the church secretary. Under Yandell’s oversight, Jason and Brenda courted and later married. They both continued to serve the church for a total of twelve years until they felt God concluding their time at Mannford and moving them to Broken Bow. The Byers ministered as youth pastors at Broken Bow First Assembly of God under Pastor Terry Bradley for the next three years. As Oklahoma teenagers, Jason and Brenda separately benefitted from youth ministries under Dave Mewbourne at Woodlake AG and Betty Calebrese at Mannford AG, respectively. They love the Tulsa area and love Oklahoma! When asked about rural ministry in Barnsdall, Pastor Byers said, “I hope to see my kids graduate from Barnsdall – we want to set our roots down deep to have the most effective impact in this area. In towns like these, it takes longevity. God has done amazing things so far, and we’re excited about the days ahead!”

MISSIONS
TO T H E E N D S OF
THE E A RT H “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” What an audacious vision! But when Christ gave this prophetic picture to His disciples recorded in Acts 1:8, He had every intention that the fulfillment would come through obedient gospel-carriers. The “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you” kind of power was every bit missional in God’s purpose. We are Pentecostal people because we are Great Commission people! This power was never meant to be crafted into a human agenda. Neither was the power meant to be the focal point. God’s visionary command is meant to be the highlight of Scripture. The Church needs special power to expand His Kingdom around the world. In other words, the only way the “to the ends of the earth” vision will be fulfilled is through the enablement of the Holy Spirit. That power is all about people. When we consider what are the ends of the earth, Christ wanted us to envision the last place people would be found. The cost of going to the islands, deserts, hill country, jungles, river masons, mountainous regions, cities, slums, and villages is great. The cost to reach them is even greater. But Scripture reveals that the price tag on people, even at the ends of the earth, is invaluable.
obedient. And, we get the rest of the story… We are no different than those first century disciples. We must sense the necessity to walk in this power as well as preach it for its intended purpose. Our participation in this “ends of the earth” journey is primarily undoable without it. It is amazing to think that Christ would entrust this image and mandate with us. By God’s grace, we are chosen to send His message around the world. By His vision, we are inspired to see and remember that it’s all about people. And, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we are enabled to go to the ends of the earth. Let’s not be those who merely wait for Christ’s coming. Let’s be the ones who embrace the vision and engage people all around the world. Let’s be filled with His power and purpose to reach people at the ends of the earth. Let’s go!
After remembering with whom His vision was shared, that power seemed to be all the more necessary. If the Kingdom of God is hinging on this group, we aren’t reading this right now. But you and I know, as we are on this side of the story, that ordinary can meet

S E ASO N I hope at the top of your list in the last quarter of this year is your 2019 Annual Credential Renewal!
As has been the custom in years past, the National Office has made the online renewal process as user-friendly as possible for ALL of our ministers including our missionaries, senior-retired and newly credentialed. As of October 27th, the 2019 Minister Credential Renewal System is live and available at www.MinisterRenewal.ag.org! You may also access the renewal link from www.ag.org. We encourage you, if at all possible, to use the online system to renew. Once submitted, your renewal is immediately accessible to our office for review and approval. This eliminates the daunting task of going to the post office and trying to get a postmark as is required if waiting until the day of the December 31st deadline. If you have done this in year’s past, you know what I’m talking about! The process is simple. •
Create Account/Login to AG Passport by using your Minister Account # (This can be found on your minister’s card)
•
Click on the Minister’s Renewal link
•
Answer all questions
•
Pay the 2018 General Council dues, if there is still a balance due
•
Continue to follow the prompts until you see “Congratulations! You have successfully submitted your online renewal!”
•
Separately, you must submit payment for the $30 District Renewal Fee with these options: Online at www.okag.org through the GIVING link, via TEXT GIVING at 405.757.2509, or send a check to our office. Please designate your giving as “District Renewal Fee”.
When you invest with CEP, your money will not only earn more, it will achieve more.
cepnet.com/earnmore
Please note: After the deadline of December 31 (11:59pm CST for online renewals), renewals submitted online (or mailed) will require a $70 late fee, split between the District Council ($45) and General Council ($25). The online credentialing renewal system will only be available through 11:59 PM (CST), Tuesday, January 15, 2019. Unfortunately, after January 15th, your credentials will be considered “Lapsed”. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Renae Elmore at renae.elmore@okag.org or 405.475.1100. Article By: Renae Elmore

CHURCH
THA NK YOU FOR YOU R S U P P ORT OF
LFTL!
As we come to a close of a busy season in the Church Ministries Department, Nyree and I want to share our gratitude for you! Looking back over the past several months of traveling across our state and holding several events, we want to say thank you to the many who have come and shown your support. Nyree and I do not take it for granted! October began with the start of multiple locations for the Oklahoma School of Ministry. We were blessed with so many students returning to continue their courses and a great number coming in to start the first level. These students are tremendous assets to the Kingdom of God and will deepen the bench of many of our churches across the state! Oklahoma Credentialed Women held their Fall Seminar at Tulsa Christian Chapel in October. Dr. Deborah Gill challenged the women with her anointed teaching and a plea to remember the Dream they were given when they were called. The ladies finished the day with a dynamic prayer time. Looking ahead, the OCW will be at Edmond Spring Creek February 16th, for the Spring Seminar with Crystal Martin, the National Women in Ministry Network Leader.
May we all be grateful for the relationships that God has gifted us! Light for the Lost began it’s annual tour, challenging churches to come along side our missionary efforts around the world. As LFTL provides the evangelistic tools our missionaries need to effectively reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, there is still much to be accomplished. Thank you to each pastor and church for your continued support of LFTL and we look forward to great days of harvest in the days to come! In December, our Senior Heritage Christmas event will be held at OKC Bethesda on December 1st. Beginning at 11:00am, we will have a great lunch together with a concert by Russell Davis on the saxophone, followed by the Williamsons Quartet!

CHILDREN
HELLO
NEIGHBOR I love nostalgia. Anything that can transport me back in time to
revisit the time of my youth and childhood, I am all in. If you have seen my office, you could probably sense that the moment that you walk into the door. I have surrounded myself with reminders of some of my heroes that I had as a child. If you have ever been to my office, you know that my décor is filled with various versions of superheroes from both Marvel and D.C. comics. I have my A-Team figures ready and posed beside B.A.’s black van with the red stripe. (You know the one.) Standing beside that is my 12” Mr. T doll, um….I mean action figure! But among all of the superheroes and action figures that crowds the shelves of my office, sits a figure of a different hero of mine, Perhaps the most gifted, sweater wearing, next door neighbor that anyone could ask for – Mister Rogers. Recently, my son and I watched the newly released biography of Fred Rogers entitled, “Won’t You Be My Neighbor”. While watching the film I was instantly transported back into my childhood years of sitting in front of my T.V. set watching Mister Rogers talking to Mr. McFeely, imagining I was on Trolley rolling through the Neighborhood of Make Believe. Whatever your take on Mister Rogers is, whether he was someone that you watched as a kid or whether you thought he was a little quirky, there is no denying the fact that he had a phenomenal way with interacting with kids. HIS PRESENTATION WAS SIMPLE. With only his imagination and a few hand puppets, Mister Rogers was able to present a television program that effectively taught children for 33 years. Without all the glitz of modern technology, he was able to get his message across with this simple method. Too many times in ministry we get caught up on the methods of how to present our message. We must spend more on the message that we want to get across, and not be bogged down by how we are going to present it. HE ADDRESSED DIFFICULT TOPICS. Disabilities, death, racism, and divorce are not what may come to mind when we think about a children’s television program. But Mister Rogers addressed each one of these subjects. Even during the turbulent times of the late sixties, he was helping children cope with these tough subjects. In the same manner, we must not shy away from difficult topics when we minister to our kids. As we minister to the kids of our churches, there is an increasing number who deal with these subjects on a daily basis. Shouldn’t we be addressing these things before they experience them, and offer Christ-centered solutions to deal with what the world throws at them?
CHILDREN WERE HIS MISSION FIELD. Trained and ordained as a Presbyterian minister, Fred Rogers was displeased with the way television addressed children. Over the course of three decades, Mister Rogers became a television icon of children’s entertainment and education. Shaping and forming the lives of children across the globe was his desire. What do you desire for the kids of your church? Do you want them to know Jesus more? Do you want to teach them what it takes to live a godly Christ-centered life? Of course you do. Have the same mindset as Fred Rogers. Make it your mission to see to the spiritual need of the kids that you minister to. Make it your priority to lead them into a Godly lifestyle. I think when it comes to ministering to children; we should take direction from Mister Rogers to: • • •
Simplify our message Prepare kids for the difficulties that life may bring Make ministering to kids your priority
“We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It’s easy to say “It’s not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.” Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.” - Fred Rogers
RECOMMENDED READING In Talk Now and Later, author Brian Dollar presents 10 common topics your child deals with—or will soon— and detailed advice on how to approach and discuss the issues with them. Learn to have these conversations early, have them often, and have them wisely so that when the difficult topics come up, the lines of communication will already be open. This book is a must have for your children’s ministries tool box!
