SUPERINTENDENT
MAK IN G A
D IFF ER EN CE Life is filled with unlimited possibilities. God’s desires
and intent, to bless and not to harm, are far above our ability to comprehend and certainly exceed that which we might dream or imagine. The prophet Jeremiah declared, “For I know the plans I have for you – this is the Lord’s declaration – plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” This promise should be inscribed in the innermost depth of every credentialed minister’s thinking! The first thought following a night of rest should be the lyrics and the melody of “I Am a Promise, I Am a Possibility.” A new day, filled with the blessings and presence of the Almighty, awaits those who commit their ways unto Him! Preachers, we have the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life every day. There is no time for laziness in the assignment to which we have been called. Every day must resonate with a purpose. We must grasp the reality that God has made every day and has allowed us to participate in His master design. We are alive and on planet earth to fulfill His will and to rejoice in His presence. We must not miss the opportunities that God places in our pathway. Just think, of all of the billions of people alive today, He has “chosen” us to be His hands extended, to reveal His heart to the hurting, and to be His “flesh” in the midst of the multitude. One may ask, “How is this possible?” Please consider our “words” – spoken in daily conversation, written in notes and publications, declared from the public platform.
“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.” There are many groups of individuals to whom this might apply; however, my heart has been burdened for the next generation – those currently transitioning toward independence. There is a vacuum that allures our youth as they approach the middle teenage years and continues for a decade. They desire a Gospel that is real; they ponder the advice of the sage saint; they long for a relationship with a youth pastor that can navigate from fun and games into life’s toughest questions. There are many paths that might follow at this point of consideration; but I believe it is time that we provide a renewed emphasis on Christian Higher Education. Our youth begin looking at options beyond high school during their early teen years. Education is vital to success in this world. However, it is during this period of time that faith is confronted with challenges from professors and
peers that derail the values acquired from children’s ministries, youth groups, and years of Oklahoma camps. Our Fellowship has a number of endorsed colleges and they each offer unique opportunities. Make sure that your students are aware of these universities. I encourage consideration of all of these; however, the nearest geographically to Oklahoma are Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas and Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri. Every Assemblies of God student should be aware of these colleges before their junior year in high school. We can promote this awareness through our words, our financial support, and opportunities for SAGU and EU to be placed in front of our congregations. Don’t be misled. Not every student in our colleges is committed to a Godly life; however, consider the options. It is well-known that values, attitudes, and ideologies are promoted at state sponsored institutions. Our Assemblies of God schools are not perfect, but the possibility of graduating with an undergraduate degree and maintaining a personal relationship with God is much greater when every class begins with prayer and chapel services are featured daily. I wish that every AG church were financially supporting at least one of our colleges. Why not? They are producing our preachers, missionaries, and future leaders in business and professions. Your influence will determine the college of choice for many of the young people that grow up and attend our worship services. Pastors, encourage your leadership to provide a scholarship – for those who chose to attend one of our AG endorsed colleges. It will be money well-invested and return dividends that produce eternal results. I believe in Christian Higher Education! Frank Cargill, Pastor Oklahoma AG Ministries

MISSIONS
P RAY FOR
WO RS H I P E R S ! Prayer may not be the work of missions, but it may well be the engine for that work. John Piper in his book Let the Nations Be Glad!: the Supremacy of God in Missions writes, “Prayer is designed to extend the kingdom into fruitless enemy territory.” So, we can assume that without prayer, the Kingdom of God may not be extended. We must pray!
And, our prayer consists of both praying for workers and worshipers. The Scripture is clear that we are to pray the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into his harvest fields (Matthew 9:38). But what is it that propels the heart of the worker? An uncompromising love for God is what compels us to share our faith and pray for the lost. God calls us to “delight yourself in the Lord” (Psalm 37:4). And, it is in this increasing delight that we declare God’s glory among the nations. We must pray…for worshipers! Actually, this prayer for worshipers is reciprocal. Worshipers of the One True God declare His glory to those who are not yet worshiping. Our passion for God is not meant to be containable. Worship for God is both the vehicle and the goal. Prayer is the engine. And, we pray for worshipers because, as Piper says, the ultimate goal of the church is not missions. It’s worship. He writes, “Missions exists because worship doesn’t.” So, we must pray for worshipers! And, we pray that more worship God around the world because this is where true freedom resides. The primary difference between world religions and Christianity is found in where their worship leads. One leads to a labor force; the other leads to liberation. Piper says that “the vision of God as one whose passion for his glory moves him to mercy impels missions because he is utterly unique among all the gods.” For the sake of the bound and oppressed globally, we must pray for worshipers! Pray for our Oklahoma Missionaries around the world. And, consider becoming a prayer leader for the Oklahoma Arab World Initiative as we endeavor to raise up 300 prayer leaders to pray for the Arab World three times a week for the next three years. For more information, visit www.okag.org/awi and click on the link PRAY.

“All the nations you made will come and bow before you, Lord; they will praise your holy name.” (Psalm 86:9) “After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands.” (Revelation 7:9) Stir the worshipers, Lord, so that your glory might be declared to the nations, and people, bound by darkness, might be set free around the world to worship You, in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

SOLV ER As a team member, one of the best and most useful ways to add
value to your organization and lighten the load of your leader is to become a problem solver. Having worked closely with organizational leaders for almost 20 years, I have come to see firsthand the incredible load that leaders face on a daily basis. There is a constant bombardment of pressure, some of which is predictable and some of which is not. Being a problem solver is not intuitive and it does not come easy to many people. In fact, when it comes to problems, many of us find it much easier to complain about them, criticize the way in which they are handled, and critique the ways they could have been solved better, if we were in charge. There is an art and skill when it comes to being a problem solver; especially when you are not the one who is ultimately in charge of the organization. It requires tact. It requires patience. It requires an understanding of the organization and of your leader. It also requires a good understanding of people and their impulse to resist change. Below are some helpful insights I have picked up over the years. STAY IN YOUR LANE It is much easier to spot problems in other areas than our own. One of the quickest roads to team turmoil is to begin presenting solutions to problems in areas that you have no direct control over. It is always a better move to analyze the area in which you currently have influence and solve the problem you have direct control over before venturing too far into other’s territory. There may be a time to solve problems in other areas, but that right has to be earned over time.
“Analyze the area in which you currently have influence and solve the problem you have direct control over...” UNDERSTAND YOUR AUTHORITY It is important for you to understand how much authority you have within your organization. If you do not have the authority to act on the solutions you present, then you need to develop the skill of presenting your solution to those who can make the change. One of the fastest ways to lose credibility with your leader is act in areas where you do not have permission to act. It is never easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. That is a fast road to a dead end. MAKE SURE YOU ARE SOLVING THE RIGHT PROBLEM What I mean by this is simple. Are you solving the problem, or are you solving a symptom of the problem? When you are in charge of a particular area in the organization you can begin to think that the
sun rises and sets over that area. This is a good thing when it comes to taking ownership, but it can be bad when it comes to solving problems. It is important to understand that solutions you present need to help solve problems for the entire organization as much as for the area of which you lead. If your solution solves a problem in your area, but creates greater issues for your leader and the whole organization, it is likely not the best move. UNDERSTAND YOUR LEADER’S PERSPECTIVE Always remember that your leader has the entire organization to consider. He or she does not have the luxury of focusing on only one area of ministry. They need to make decisions on what is best for the whole, and that is not always what is best for the part. It can be easy to begin to develop a martyr complex and assume that your ideas are underappreciated and your voice is not being heard, when in fact, that is not the case at all. Just because you are not getting the answer you want to hear, does not mean you have not been heard. When you understand your leader’s perspective it begins to feel less personal when they don’t go with your idea. BRING OPTIONS Always remember there is almost always more than one way to solve a problem. When you present solutions to you leader be sure to present a few good options for them to consider. You have a perspective they don’t have, and you will often see things they don’t see. As you communicate this perspective in an honorable way, your voice will begin to be heard more and more over time. Solving problems is a necessary skill to working on any team. Remember that just because you have been given a position does not mean you have been given credibility. Credibility must be earned over time. One of the best ways to earn it is to strive to solve problems in a way that makes the organization better and your leader’s life easier.

CHURCH
THANK YOU! It is hard to believe that 2017 has progressed so quickly
and that we have already arrived at one of my favorite times of the year… fall! Cooler temperatures, changing of the leaves, football and deer season! While I look forward to each of these every year and am thankful when they come, I must also give thanks for what God is doing through the Church Ministries Department. MEN’S CONFERENCE 2017 First of all, let me thank each one of the pastors, men’s leaders, and the many guests who attended our annual Men’s Conference in September at Sparks Campground. It was truly amazing to see God do a supernatural work among the men of our state. We believe that it will impact churches, families, and communities for eternity! I would also be remiss if I did not thank the many volunteers who assisted with the shooting sports, archery, food, and entertainment. They are the lifeblood of any event and provided excellent service to the men of the state. I appreciate their sacrifice of time and talent to make this a successful event! Don’t forget to check out the FREE discipleship resources found at www.okag.org/men. There are small group resources that are designed for all levels of spiritual maturity and will be a great help as you disciple the men of your church. Check it out! LIGHT FOR THE LOST I want to say thank you to the many churches that are supporting Light for the Lost and more importantly, our missionaries. With your faithful and generous support of LFTL, we have been able to put the tools in the hands of our missionaries to help them reach their field of service with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. You have been the difference maker in someone’s eternal destination with your giving and support. Currently we are gearing up for our 2017 Light for the Lost tour. I appreciate your attendance and your willingness to pledge your support for this expansive need of sharing the Gospel around the globe. Your commitment is not taken for granted and I am deeply grateful for your partnership in the Kingdom. May God richly bless you as you endeavor to be a part of the Light for the Lost team!!

OKLAHOMA SCHOOL OF MINISTRY We are so excited about the opportunities that surround the Oklahoma School of Ministry as we train new ministers to be effective in their local churches. We are looking forward to seeing what God will do through them as they take what has been invested into their minds and spirits. We know that God is doing something spectacular through OSOM! The Oklahoma Credentialed Women Continuing Education track has paved the way for the expansion of OSOM and has had tremendous response. We are planning to bring on additional opportunities for ministry leaders to learn and challenge themselves to grow in vital areas pertaining to their place in the local church. We would invite you to watch your email and the District website for more details as they are finalized. It is an honor to serve the Oklahoma District Council and to partner with churches, pastors, and missionaries around the world. May God richly bless you! Chad and Nyree

YOUTH PASTOR BIO: MICAH & BAILEY Life is lived day by day with these two. Everything is “in the moment.” Micah and Bailey Frye got off work and drove home to probably clean and get the little things done around the house. As soon as they arrived, they said, “Wanna go camping?” They packed their things and left to sleep in 32-degree weather with only a tent, a golden retriever, and a few blankets. This adventurous married couple attended Southwestern Assemblies of God University where they met. Micah received a Bachelor’s Degree in Pastoral Leadership and an Associate’s Degree in Bible with hopes of becoming a youth pastor. Also, Bailey received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Ministries with an Associate’s Degree in Bible. Once Bailey graduated in May of 2014, they got married in June. Micah accepted a youth pastor position in Albuquerque, New Mexico while finishing his collegiate work online. Their main heart/focus and passion for student ministry is prioritizing relationships and family wherever they go. They see generations changing church culture and setting the energy for their cities. Micah and Bailey love student ministry and are always learning from experiences. They look for God’s hand over every situation they face. Now they serve as youth pastors in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and are pursuing what God has next for them day after day.
CHILDREN
CHALLENGE FOR
MISSIONS Did you know that one-third of the world’s children struggle with inadequate food and drinking water-let alone having the luxury of soda pop to drink?
The national BGMC office is challenging kids to give up soda pop (or something else) during the month of November (or any other month). The money that would have been spent on soda pop (or candy and snacks) would then be given to BGMC, which helps needy children around the world. Here’s how it works: Kids across the nation are to make a pledge to give up soda pop for one, two, or three weeks, ending on Thanksgiving Day. On that day, kids may once again drink soda pop-remembering to be thankful for their own blessings. Parents are encouraged not to purchase soda pop for their kids at restaurants or at the grocery store. Parents then calculate the savings from their household budgets and pledge this amount toward their kids’ PopOut! challenge goal for BGMC. For more info on this event idea, go online to www.bgmc.ag.org/events/ popout.
PB&J RETREAT IS COMING SOON PB&J Retreat is taking place on November 17th -18th at our Sparks Camp Facility. This retreat is designed as a discipleship experience for 4th - 6th graders. This is our sixth year to have this event and it gets bigger and better every year. PB&J is what this weekend is all about. It stands for Prayer, Bible Study, and Jesus. Over the course of this weekend, we want to pour into the lives of older elementary students, and encourage them to start developing their own walk with Christ. This year we are going to be learning “How to Deal with our EMOJI’S”. Pastors, please consider sending your 4th, 5th, & 6th grader to this event. PB&J Retreat will be a turning point in the lives of your young people. We want to help invest in your church by building up the next generation of church leaders. PB&J Retreat will be a weekend of intense worship, discipleship and challenge.

IN MEMORY
William R. Martin 9/7/1939 - 9//3/2017
Reverend Billy Martin, 77, longtime pastor of Guymon ‘s First Assembly of God church went to be with his Lord on Sunday evening, September 3, 2017 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Quandalia Froud Martin of Guymon; son, Aaron Martin of Guymon; granddaughter, Halle Martin ; two sisters: Nina Maxine Martin of Alma, AR and Lynda Brewer of Arkoma, OK and a host of other relatives, friends and his church family. He was preceded in death by his daughter Bonnita Martin, brother, Gene Martin and parents, Rev. Jim and Elsie Martin. William Riley (Billy) Martin was born in Fort Smith, AR and spent the majority of his younger life living in that area. He and Quandalia Froud were united in marriage on June 1, 1960 in Grove, OK. He received his education from Central Bible College in Springfield, MO, The University of Tennessee at Martin in Martin, TN and Southwestern Bible College in Bethany, OK. Reverend Martin has traveled many years as an evangelist preaching many revivals, conventions, district councils and camp meetings throughout the United States as well as in Haiti, Jamaica and Canada. He has traveled to the country of Israel 48 times and has taken hundreds of ministers on trips to the Holy Land and throughout the Middle East and Europe. Brother Martin has preached hundreds of funerals, weddings and baby dedications throughout the United States and several foreign countries as well as baptizing numerous people in water throughout America and even in the Jordan River.
