ARCHIT E C T IN AC T ION !
THE D R EAM Frequent meetings are a regular occurrence! Our OKAG
Team continues to participate in design development with our architect and our general contractor. We anticipate that architectural drawings will be at the 95% phase within the next 30 days. It is exciting to see the ever-growing volume of documents with specific instructions for construction, electrical, heat and air, plumbing, and interior design. THE DREAM IS BECOMING A REALITY! ARE YOU AN OKLAHOMA STORM CHASER? We continue our quest to enlist 1,000 STORM CHASERS who will support this project by contributing at least $1,000 EACH. The list is growing every month but we are still short. OUR GOAL – 1,000 STORM CHASERS – WILL MAKE THE F5 RATED BUILDING POSSIBLE! A large display will be placed inside of the F5 storm-rated building listing the names of those who join this growing number of individuals. Join the cause and become AN OKLAHOMA STORM CHASER! Contributions will continue to be credited toward your individual account through the end of 2019. Begin today with weekly or monthly contributions and within 14 months you will have reached your personal goal of $1,000.
B E C O M E A L I F E - LO N G L E A R N E R I never remember meeting a person who desired to experience an “unhealthy” life. Instead, we encourage just the opposite! One of the objectives of your OKAG is TO SERVE HEALTHY MINISTERS. There should never come a time when one reaches the point of knowing everything. Yet, as we age, it becomes easier to accept the philosophy that we have “done that – been there – bought the t-shirt!” What a mistake! Every day that God allows His followers to live should be seen as an opportunity to meet someone new, to represent our faith in Christ, and to learn something we never knew before. I am fully committed to being a LIFE-LONG LEARNER! If we are to fulfill His purpose and to influence this generation for the Kingdom, learning must never stop. There are many ways whereby this can be accomplished; however, I am excited to share a recent development afforded by OUR UNIVERSITY – SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY. The Oklahoma District has partnered with Southwestern Assemblies of God University to offer credentialed ministers a special learning opportunity. Members of the Oklahoma District can bundle four college courses for $1,596 ($399 per course). Basically that would include any 4 courses presently listed in the University catalog – a 3-hour course, with credit, for only $399. That is an unheard of offer!
Eligibility is only available to first time SAGU students and the credentialed minister must be 22 years of age or older. If interested, please contact my office – 405.475.1100 or email frank.cargill@ okag.org. We will immediately mail you additional information or you can discover more by reaching out to www.sagu.edu/oklahoma. WHY SAGU OKLAHOMA DISTRICT? • Accredited degrees • Affordable tuition • Financial Aid for those who enter a degree plan • Quick and easy registration • Credit through a convenient, online format O K LA H O M A M I N I S T E R S B E N E V O L E N C E F U N D One way to “fulfill the law of Christ” is to “carry another’s burden.” Galatians 6:2 The Book of Acts makes it clear that the early Christians had all things in common. Their love for one another was evident in the consideration and support they showed for one another. The need for mutual support and loving benevolence is as much a relevant part of Christianity today as it was then. As an OKAG credentialed minister one can participate in a plan of action for the purpose of enabling ministers to collectively support one another when one of our own is dealing with death. The Oklahoma Ministers Benevolence Fund (OMBF) provides an excellent vehicle for ministers to offer financial assistance to those facing the expense and grief due to a funeral. Since 2000 - together – we have distributed over 1 million dollars to our ministerial families through the ministry of OMBF. Membership is optional; however, benevolence is linked directly with discipleship. Discover more about this amazing ministry by contacting your OKAG Ministry Office today. You can also visit our website at www.okag. org/ombf. Complete information, including an “enrollment form” is available online. Your involvement will provide honor to whom honor is due and your participation will demonstrate your commitment to fulfilling a command of Christ.

MISSIONS
G OD’S C RAZY P LAN
ABO UT U S In light of this season for missions’ promotion, consider
1 Corinthians 1:28 says, “God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.” In other words, God chooses the ordinary, obscure, overlooked – He chooses us! God has always chosen the ordinary. And, it appears that ordinary people have always been the tip of the gospel spear.
God has a crazy plan about us. The Bible is replete with evidence that He saves us to send us. Of course, the word “crazy” is not meant to show disrespect or treat any of this lightly. From the human perspective, however, it seems quite unthinkable that God would choose any of us to accomplish His plan around the world.
Who does God choose? Well, the Bible seems to say that He chooses shepherds like Moses, teenagers like Mary, and fishermen like Peter, James and John…to reach the nations. So, why wouldn’t He speak to someone in one of your worship experiences? Whether you work with youth, children or are the lead pastor of your local church, please consider giving room for God to speak and call the next missionary. His “crazy plan” is working through the Church all around the world!
challenging your church attendees to feel the call for short-term or career missionary assignments abroad. Why? When we promote missions, our involvement is not always exclusive to sending. Sometimes the call to missions is going. And, I believe the Holy Spirit is strategically sending people from our local churches.

FINANCE
IRA C H ARITABLE
RO L LOV E R Many retirees become frustrated with the required minimum
distribution (RMD) rules put in place by the Internal Revenue Service. What is an RMD, and why should I care about it as a church leader? Simply put, many of your older church members are dealing with it and a little knowledge on your part could help them leverage it as both a tax savings tool and charitable giving tool. What is the RMD? It is the required amount of money people must begin withdrawing from their Individual Retirement Account (IRA) when they reach 70 ½ years of age. The basic rules for the RMD are fairly straightforward after you reach the age of 70 ½: 1. You must withdraw a portion of your IRA each year based upon your age. 2. You must pay income tax on the portion you withdraw. 3. You will face stiff penalties if you fail to withdraw the RMD. Why are some retirees frustrated with the RMD? Generally speaking, they don’t need the money right now. Whether it is due to social security earnings, other savings, or the fact that they are still working, the RMD does more than increase taxable income, it also increases the tax liability.
Congress has passed legislation that gives people another option when it comes to withdrawing money from an IRA. It is called a charitable rollover. Current law allows individuals to rollover up to $100,000 each year from an IRA to a qualified charity, which includes your church. The good news is that rollover amounts count toward, and in some cases fulfills the RMD. This means two things for people in this situation; they get to meet the RMD requirements with no additional income tax burden, and support the work of God’s Kingdom in the process. For church members who will no longer be able to itemize charitable deductions, this may be just the tax efficient strategy for which they are looking. How to Make an IRA Roller Gift: 1. Contact the IRA administrator. 2. Have the administrator direct and IRA rollover transfer up to $100,000. 3. No income taxes will be paid on the amount transferred. 4. Because no income is being claimed, no income tax deduction will be given for the gift. The donor is simply bypassing the tax due on the front end. If you want to know about the IRA charitable rollover and how you can promote it within your church, you can contact our office.
When you invest with CEP, your money will not only earn more, it will achieve more.

“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” God wants to bring back the Intercessory Prayer Warrior to His Church! Sadly, most of our Intercessory Prayer Warriors have “aged out” or gone to heaven. Who have we replaced them with? The reality is, in most modern-day churches- no one. We’ve forgotten how to really PRAY and we’re paying the price for it. It’s called Warfare Prayer and we want to teach, preach and expound upon it in every way to inspire a new generation! It’s time to bring Intercessory Prayer, Fasting AND the Prayer Room (or “Upper Room”) back into today’s church. Friends, if you haven’t noticed, the Enemy is intensifying his ground game. It’s time we “Upped the Ante” in prayer and like mighty women before us that knew how to touch God, it’s time to fight on our knees. We’re a mighty army! • • • •
Come learn what it means to be more powerful in prayer. Come learn the secret to more answers to your personal prayers. Come experience His Refreshing Wind and Fire! Come to 2018 Daughters Conference!

YOUTH
ME E T
GE NER AT IO N Z Hey Oklahoma! I have recently read the book Meet Generation Z
: Understanding and Reaching the New Post-Christian World by James Emery White. Youth leaders, this a definitive must-read! Terry Parkman, Next Gen Pastor of River Valley Church in Minneapolis, has recently written an article for AG Youth Ministries that I believe Youth Pastors, Lead Pastors, and anyone who works with this generation should take the time to read. I hope this blesses you! Heath Corrales Solomon once said, “There’s nothing new under the sun.” While that’s true in most cases, it doesn’t hold up with culture. Sure, there are universal values in every culture to certain extents, but the reality is that too many church leaders use that statement as a way to dodge figuring out how the next generation ticks. If the next generation is the future of the Church, then it deserves the better part of our personal bandwidth to get where they are and engage them. The late cultural anthropologist, Margaret Mead, once stated, “Throughout history, most cultures have been dis-figurative, where parents and grandparents help their young to understand the future. A few times it becomes co-figurative, where change happens so fast that society depends on the young to help understand the future. However, I anticipate that a time is coming in history where technology changes so fast that culture, for the first time in human history, will be pre-figurative, where children will have to figure out for themselves what their values will be.” Little did she know that she was talking about the generation of young people who are currently filling our Kids and Youth Ministries. That generation is Gen Z and they are arguably ages 0–18. That means if you’re a youth pastor, your last Millennial graduated from high school last year (unless they were held back that is), and what is incredibly defining in regard to Gen Z is that they are no longer a generation of consumers; rather, they’re a generation of publishers. Did you hear me? I said they are a generation of PUBLISHERS. What this means is that this generation no longer wants to come to church, sit, consume what you say and then leave the church and publish, but they want to “publish” what God is saying to them right

now. In every area of their lives, especially through the communities they engage through their smartphones, they are publishing. The business world has gotten this, public school systems have understood this, and even major news outlets have realized that to get people to engage news, you have to allow them room to “publish” what they think about it. So where did this generational shift take place, and furthermore, WHY did it take place? The answer is simpler than you think. The reason this generation is one of publishers is because they are neurologically wired that way. Think of it: Everything we access and everything we do creates a neurological pathway in our brain, similar to a hiking trail in the mountains. The more you access that same thing, the more traveled that neurological pathway becomes, and pretty soon that hiking trail becomes a superhighway of information. And now, you have a new default programmed into you. Is it any wonder that what we access, and the frequency in which we do so wires the way we think? Americans look at their smartphones an average of 80 times a day and spend at least five hours a day perusing social media, headlines, games, the news, and God-forbid, darker corners of the internet. Now it makes sense, in Romans 12:2, when Paul tells us to “not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the RENEWING OF YOUR MIND.” So what do we do with this information? How does it shape our churches and more specifically, our youth services? Well, we can start by restructuring our youth services to reflect the generation we minister to. We can create more opportunities for students to publish in service through small groups, social media engagement, journaling, or group talk. We can lead people in an actual faith journey rather than taking them straight to a destination every time we preach. And when we do preach, we need to preach to increase biblical literacy and develop biblical thinking patterns rather than dropping tweetable quotes that populate a Twitter feed rather than filling their minds with the equipment necessary for taking the journey with God themselves. I’ll leave you with this thought… A year and a half ago I was in conversation with the gentleman who oversees youth ministry for the AG in Japan. After talking to him about what I outlined above, he gave me this statistic: Ten years ago there were, on average, 30 teenagers in every church in Japan, but today there are .7 teenagers in every church (that’s right, point seven). He said the reason was because they kept “doing church” the way they always did it in the past expecting this generation to fall in line. Instead, the next generation left the church building, but not their faith, and instead formed communities where a faith journey with Jesus could be discovered, discussed, and published. Let’s get ahead of this here at home and do all we can to reach everyone we can as we shape ministry contexts to engage the generation sitting before us.
CHILDREN
GETTING INVOLVED IN
OUR SCHOOLS Well, we finally made it! We are on the other side of Labor Day and summer is officially over. Each morning as I leave for the office I have to be extra careful pulling out of my driveway. Our family moved into a new house a few months ago, and there is a school down at the end of our street. Each morning I see the parade of backpacks, lunchboxes, and new school clothes march across the crosswalk on their way to school. Perhaps one of the best relationships that I had as a children’s pastor was with the elementary schools in the community that I was in. In just that one little community there were three elementary schools. I was very fortunate to have relationship with the teachers, principals, and sometimes the school board. I highly would recommend children’s pastors to get involved in their schools. It is a great way to minister and be around the kids that you minister to. I know many that want to, but don’t know how to get started. There is not a certain set of rules that you follow. All I can share with you is what I did.
BECOME A SUBSTITUTE When I was on staff as a children’s pastor, my day off was Friday. That day became my sub day. I would be on the sub list for the various schools around the district. The kids from my church thought it was really cool that their children’s pastor was going to be their teacher for the day. By taking the time to invest in the lives of the teachers and students in your community, you can open all kinds of opportunities for ministry in your community. Whether it is saying a quick prayer for a teacher who is having a bad day or just spending the day with kids you only see on Sunday, you have to remember the work you do not only will benefit the kids but will also benefit the teachers, the whole school and the entire community. It will also provide the students with positive interaction, support, and encouragement.
DROP BY TO SAY “HELLO” It’s amazing how far a quick greeting and a dozen donuts will get you when you walk into a school office. You almost instantly become great friends with the secretaries. Drop by tell them who you are and wish them a great week. Be sure to let them know if they need anything to let you know.
The best relationship I had was with the elementary schools in the community. GIVE THE TEACHER A BREAK With large class sizes, teachers can always use an extra pair of hands. Offer to come in on a regular basis or whenever you have the time.
When you invest with CEP, your money will not only earn more, it will achieve more.

HAVE LUNCH WITH YOUR KIDS A simple way to get involved is to have lunch with the kids in your children’s ministry. Kids love it when they have a guest for lunch. Teachers love it too, because it’s one more adult that can sit with the kids.

IN MEMORY
Jack W. Ellsworth
7/19/1925 - 10/5/2018 Reverend Jack Wayne Ellsworth was born July 19, 1925, in Slick, OK and left this life on October 5, 2018, surrounded by family at his home in Catoosa, OK. He was the fifth child of Delbert and Donnie Ellsworth. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathryn Ellsworth, three brothers, Levoy Ellsworth, Charles Ellsworth and John Ellsworth and two sisters, Margaret Eaton and Opal Bryan. He is survived by, his wife, Mildred Ellsworth, two sisters, Mona Balius and Nedra Ellsworth, sons Darrell Ellsworth and his wife Michele, and Dennis Ellsworth, daughter Kathy McNutt and her husband Mark, step son Paul Voorhees and wife Janice; grandchildren Darren Ellsworth and his wife Jennifer, Shawn Ellsworth, Matthew Ellsworth and his wife Moi, Kim McCarty and her husband Scott, Markey McNutt, II and his wife Annah; great grandchildren Zachary and Zoe McCarty; Connor, Aidan and Rory McNutt; Colleen, Jonah, Ian and Avery Ellsworth. Jack spent his earliest years in Bald Hill, OK a small settlement populated mostly by oilfield workers and farmers, before moving with his family to Beggs, OK. He received Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1933 and preached his first sermon at the age of 15 at Beggs Assembly of God, after much practice on his seven brothers and sisters, who were his captive audience! In the fall of 1941, his family moved to Newton, IL. Jack met his wife, Kathryn Brackett, while attending Newton High School. He graduated high school in 1942. After graduation, he entered the United States Marine Corp and served his country from August 1942 until December 1945, aboard the U.S.S. New Orleans in the South Pacific. During his service in the South Pacific, he was involved in the liberation of prisoners of war in Manila and the concentration camps in mainland China. He was part of seven major beach landings in WWII and provided reconnaissance of Iwo Jima that resulted in the taking of the island and the iconic planting of the American flag. While in the Marines, Jack and Kathryn were married in Henderson, Kentucky. Shortly before he was discharged, his son Darrell was born. When he came home for Christmas in 1945, he found his son, in a basket, under the Christmas tree. His second son, Dennis, was born in Stroud, OK, after Jack had moved his family back home to Oklahoma.

The call to minister was always on his mind, and in 1947, he moved to Springfield, MO to attend Central Bible Institute. While there, he ministered to the Assembly of God church in Antioch, MO. From 1948 -1952 he pastored the Assembly of God church in Murphysboro, IL and in 1952 moved to Pawnee, IL to serve at Pawnee Assembly of God. It was here, that his daughter, Kathy, was born. He also went on to pastor in Alton, IL and Quincy, IL Between 1963 and 1966, Jack served as the pastor of the Assembly of God church in Columbus, GA. In 1966, he returned to Oklahoma to be near family, after he was told by doctors that he had inoperable colon cancer and was going to die. While lying emaciated on his death bed, the presence of the Lord entered the room, instantly and miraculously healing him. Shortly after, God called him to start a church in east Tulsa. On June 4, 1967, he held the first service of East 21st Street Assembly, now known as Eastland Assembly of God. He served faithfully at Eastland for 19 years. After the death of his wife Kathryn, he married Mildred Voorhees and moved to Springfield, MO and pastored Parkcrest Assembly of God before becoming a missionary to Hong Kong and China, where he built a thriving congregation that remains strong to this day. Since WWII, it had been in his heart to return to China with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and God gave him great opportunity to do just that. In June of 2015, Jack moved back to OK, one last time. He lived in the home of his daughter, Kathy, who faithfully cared for him in his final 3 1/2 years of life. He had the privilege of returning to Eastland Assembly to be ministered to in the church he had founded. Pastor Ellsworth leaves a legacy of love, compassion, kindness, generosity, strength, service, faithfulness and most importantly, faith. His life touched countless others with the message of the saving and transforming grace of Jesus Christ, whom he served, honored and glorified with every breath of his life. At the family’s request, contributions can be made, in Pastor Ellsworth’s name, to Eastland Assembly of God, to further the ministry of the church he founded and poured his life into for so many years.
