AN INVITATION FROM THE ODA PRESIDENT DANIEL WILGUESS, DDS
Happy 2020! With the new year comes the excitement that is building for the 2020 Oklahoma Dental Association Annual Meeting. This year the meeting is in Oklahoma City on April 16-18. Bring your whole team and “Be Interested” in all the things going on with our Association and dentistry in Oklahoma.
In addition to learning what the students are studying, you will have several courses to attend, which will cover a variety of topics. Workshops with hands-on experiences will also be offered. Your ENTIRE staff will have the opportunity to attend seminars specifically designed for their roles that will help enhance your practice. There are more than 42 continuing education hours available, and remember that with the change in the CE reporting period, you now must report every two years.
Along with Annual Meeting Chair, Dr. Daryn Lu, and Dr. Mitch Kramer, who is leading the charge of arranging speakers, we have compiled a schedule of topics that will benefit every person in your practice.
On Saturday, Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter will present on opioids, the changing laws, and the resulting new expectations. This will be one of your first opportunities to obtain your CE requirement regarding opioids (which recently went into effect).
CEO, International Speaker, and author of one of Amazon’s Top 10 Leadership Books of 2019, Jeremie Kubicek, will give the keynote speech at the Opening Session. I have enjoyed learning from Mr. Kubicek, and you will gain insight into effective leadership through his presentation. I am eager to announce that Scientific Day will be part of this year’s Annual Meeting on Friday, through a wonderful partnership with the ODA and the OU College of Dentistry. Dean Raymond Cohlmia and Associate Dean for Research, Dr. Sharukh Khajotia, are allowing ODA members the opportunity to “Be Interested” in the education of dental and dental hygiene students. All attendees will have the opportunity to view the poster presentations, attend the essay presentations, and the annual awards lunch. The poster presentations will take place in the Exhibit Hall in the Cox Center. I encourage you to take advantage of this CE opportunity while supporting these outstanding students.
The 2020 Annual Meeting will provide needed education, but also time to connect with friends and colleagues from across the state. Please accept my personal invitation to you and your entire team to participate in the President’s Party on Friday night. It will be a lively celebration of an incredible year for dentistry, complete with delicious food and spirits! If you have not had a chance to attend the ODA’s Annual Meeting before, then make this the year! I would love for you and your team to “Be Interested” and learn what your membership means to all of you. If you come to the Annual Meeting every year, then I thank you for your continued support, and I promise this year’s schedule will not disappoint. On behalf of your ODA, please know I am always interested in what is most important to you.
