A WELCOME FROM THE ODA PRESIDENT

SHANNON GRIFFIN, DMD

Welcome to Tulsa and the 112th Oklahoma Dental Association Annual Meeting. This year we are Partners in Progress bringing the best continuing education, social events and fellowship opportunities making this THE Premier Event for Dental Teams in our State.

SHANNON GRIFFIN, DMD OK DENTAL ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT

We are kicking this Annual Meeting off on Friday morning in the Exhibit Hall where we will be having a morning mixer with our exhibitors and the opening session with Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinell. He will give us a political update for our State and then we are off to the courses. There is a lot on the schedule with something for everyone! Don’t forget to come back to the Exhibit Hall to see the wares, visit with your representatives, and of course have fellowship with our dental teams. But, first let’s look at the CE we have lined up for you.

I’m excited to roll out a new CE event for the ODA Annual Meeting. On Friday afternoon we will have the Oklahoma Stampede in the Exhibit Hall. We extended a call to study clubs from across the state to present cases and were delighted with the quick response. There will be stations where you can see cases from our doctors and several of our OUCOD residents and have the chance to discuss diagnosis, treatment options and outcomes with the actual providing doctors! Our scientific courses this year have something for everyone. There is a two-part course with Dr. Diana Batoon on airway and appliance. The afternoon course is hands-on and filled up quickly! We will also have an inspirational course on the High Performing Dental Team with Amy Kirsch and practice transitions with Certified Financial Planner, Wendy Kelly. On Saturday we have our wildly popular Breakfast and Learn and two Lunch and Learns: the first, a fantastic course on opioids presented by our own Dr. Ray Beddoe, and an ethics within the workplace course presented by Attorney Larry Cassil, Jr. Of course, these events hug our scientific courses and we are excited to have Dr. Paresh Shaw present on Esthetics, and Edie Gibson, RDH, MS presenting her highly demanded course on vaping and marijuana in the morning and Demystifying Implant Maintenance in the afternoon. Two of our Partners in Progress are sponsoring courses during our meeting. The Oklahoma Dental Hygiene Association is having a Lunch and Learn on lasers with local expert, Angie Wallace, RDH and the Oklahoma Dental Assistants Association has courses Friday and Saturday on Team Building, Infection Control and Digital Dentistry! After all this learning and soaking up new information, don’t forget to return to the Exhibit Hall. Immediately after the close of the Exhibit Hall on Friday afternoon, we will be hosting a reception in the lobby of the Cox Business Center. Find your drink ticket in your packet and come for a moment to share your experiences of the day! In another move toward progress – I’m inviting everyone to attend my ¡Fiesta Grande! Friday night. We are putting the formal presidential dinner to rest this year and opting to have a more relaxed and inviting party for everyone on the dental team. The tickets for the ¡Fiesta Grande! will include dinner and entertainment! I hope you‘ve purchased your ticket and plan to come and enjoy the evening! It’s going to be a great time for celebrating the ODA and all of our members and partners!! I hope you enjoy being one of our PARTNERS IN PROGRESS this year. Lastly, it has been a complete honor and privilege to serve as your President. I’m delighted to share my utmost confidence in the next ODA president, Dr. Dan Wilguess.

A WELCOME FROM THE MEETING CHAIR

SAM OWENS, DDS

On behalf of the Annual Meeting Planning Committee, I would like to welcome you to the 2019 Oklahoma Dental Association Annual Meeting. This meeting will be unlike any other we have had before, with new social events and more creative ways of engaging in continuing education with your colleagues. We are excited to host this year’s meeting in Tulsa! The Annual Meeting Planning Committee has worked hard to change things up this year and offer what dental professionals really want and asked for from our Annual Conference. We are striving to provide top notch educational opportunities and time to reconnect with old and new friends. Make sure to follow along and share your experiences through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and use the hashtag #ODAMeeting2019. SAM OWENS, DDS CHAIR, 2019 ANNUAL MEETING PLANNING COMMITTEE

We are kicking the Conference off with a welcome from Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell for our Opening Session. He will dive into what is happening in our state’s legislation, especially the issues concerning dentistry. The rest of the schedule is full of unique educational opportunities to engage and inform! One new CE opportunity is the Oklahoma Stampede. Here, you will have the opportunity to sit in a round-table discussion as Study Clubs and OUCOD residents from across the state present interesting cases they’ve faced in their own practices. Please don’t forget to visit the Exhibit Hall and take advantage of the Incentive Buying Program detailed on page 28. We are excited to start the weekend off with the Exhibit Hall Morning Mixer at 8:00 a.m. on Friday. On Friday night, plan to join us for ¡Fiesta Grande!, a night dedicated to having fun, celebrating the ODA and enjoying a night with your amigos. While you are in Tulsa, please take the opportunity to experience the fast-growing and thriving downtown area around the Annual Meeting. We are excited to have amazing restaurants and nightlife close to the convention center for your convenience. Check out the Blue Dome district and Dowtown Tulsa for fun bars and food options. Every year, the ODA strives to provide the best environment for education and comradery. This year we are hoping to have the best meeting yet with new and creative educational opportunities and more good times! This year’s Planning Committee is excited about the social opportunities and we encourage you to take full advantage of these times by reconnecting with friends and classmates. I would like to extend my personal thanks to our unbelievably talented and dedicated ODA staff. This meeting would not be possible without Lynn, Shelly, Stacy, Kylie, Cerissa, Madison, and Abby. Here’s to this team, the ODA Leadership and a fantastic meeting! Dr. Sam Owens Chair, 2019 Annual Meeting Planning Committee

OKLAHOMA DENTAL ASSISTANTS ASSOCIATION It gives me great pleasure as your Oklahoma Dental Assistant Association President, along with your ODAA Executive Officers and Board Members, to present this year’s continuing education courses. The three courses available will benefit COLLEEN SCHMITT, CDA you, your doctors and ODAA PRESIDENT coworkers. They are designed to educate and enlighten you and your team on current and best practices. It is an exciting time for the ODAA as we continue to grow and adapt, remaining always motivated and responsive to the changes in dentistry. Our organization is confronting a time of many changes and we’re working hard to see that the dental assistants of our state are fairly represented. We all share a vision to be valued members of the dental profession. It takes initiative, involvement and support for us to obtain that. If you have ever wanted to become more involved at a local or state level, stop by the membership booth in the Exhibit Hall and/or the hospitality suite in the hotel for more information. Join us for snacks and networking, as well! The world of dental assisting is an exciting area to work and we’ll continue to meet and bring inspired people together in forums like this, to ensure the ODAA/OSDA remains on the cutting edge.
