Look What Them Damn Bikers Went and Done Again!

The drunk driver leaned over the steering wheel, and stomped the pedal. Good samaritan Dale Kerr, noticing the man had slumped over the wheel and fearing a medical emergency, had approached to offer help. The vehicle ran straight over Dale, pinning and dragging him under the truck. Dale’s twisted and shattered body lay below the van, in a ditch, for several hours before help arrived. His only company was his faithful dog, who lay by his side until he was transported to the hospital, in critical condition. Eight years, 64 broken bones and dozens of surgeries later, Dale is still trying to defeat the challenges that he faces every day. He is still fighting to regain use of his legs, despite structural repair work to his hip area and legs, fighting to keep his weight down so he can be successful with his rehabilitation. But most of all, Dale is FIGHTING for the stamina to build and ride his own Panhead. Those of us on the Classic Panheads Group on Facebook who have known Dale, have seen the daily challenges he

faces. We know he lives quite modestly, and recently has had some rehabilitative equipment go down, not to mention water well issues that require a new pump and service. Dale also needs a new medical walker for his daily mobility. October 16th was Dale’s Birthday, and the good folks on the Classic Panheads page responded. Over 4000 dollars was offered within a very short period of time and the Panhead freaks on the page even raised enough to throw in a new set of tires for his transport van. Dale was blown away by this show of brotherhood, from guys and gals he had never met, but we know that the biker community can do anything in times of need for their fellow man. We have seen it time and time again. A big thanks from Dale to all the brothers and sisters on the Classic Panheads Group on Facebook. Dale continues to teach us all that in the face of absolute misery and daily pain, he pushes onward and never gives up! Rock on brother Dale! Greg Lew

needed a helping hand, he was there through the DBA. Gator is not truly gone because he lives in the hearts of every person whose life he touched. In my mind I can see Gator now riding through the clouds on streets of gold with our brothers and sisters who have gone before, and Jesus is the road captain. What a ride he’s on! I know we’ll join him someday, but until then, let’s not let his death be in vain. Let’s keep working “to promote and defend motorcyclists’ freedom, safety, and awareness through education and legislation to make Oklahoma the best place to ride.” Rest in peace, Gator and may God comfort and protect your family. CMA Fajita Rita Talbott

18 Wheel Mark “Gator” Alderman, a member for just a few months, had performed a wedding at their clubhouse Saturday afternoon, August 22, and was heading home to his wife and family about 9:30 PM when he was hit head on by a driver who had been driving in the opposite direction lane for at least 10 miles. That was the end of his life on earth, but what a mark he left. The last memory his 18 Wheel family has of him was him riding off, smiling and waving to them. That memory is so very much Gator. He always had a smile on his face. He always had a big hug for you and made you feel like you were important to him and that he was really glad to see you. He put others’ needs before his own and was willing to help anyone. He and his wife Angela were deeply in love and together showed that love to all they met. He loved his kids and his grandkids and was happy to brag on them if you wanted to hear about them. Besides being a part of 18 Wheel Motorcycle Association, he was also a member of A.B.A.T.E. of Oklahoma’s Tulsa chapter and of Downed Bikers Association’s Tulsa chapter. This tells us a lot about the man Gator was. He loved to ride and have fun. He wanted others to continue to be able to ride freely in our great state and was willing to work to keep our state free and to further and strengthen motorcycle awareness and safety. Riders United 4 Children(RU4C), a 501c3 Non-Profit is a family oriented group of riding enthusiasts. Their goal is to help and protect all types of children: abused, neglected, sick and those with special needs. They are also there for their families, single parents, battered women and those facing challenges. In 2008, Dago and Wrecker had grown tired of the politics and red tape they encountered with other groups. They wanted to do more. Their group would be a family, rooted with integrity, and willing to do what it took to protect children and help them grow into the adults that would be the future of this country. Founded on the principle that protecting children is everyone’s job and has to involve friends, neighbors and communities. They knew awareness was essential.

14

This group is growing fast and it’s easy to see why. Helping children isn’t seasonal and RU4C makes it easy for their chapters to do just that. They sponsor mentoring programs, anti-bullying programs, help find missing children, fingerprint children at functions and help those in need. Protecting children from neglect and abuse will always come first, but that won’t tie their hands. RU4C is there for all types of children. Sometimes that means helping battered women and single parent families with resources they need. Christmas is just around the corner and of course, they are there for children and their families in their communities. If this article seems like a advertisement for RU4C, that wasn’t how it was intended. I had the opportunity to sit down with Dago and Noony and you can’t help but feel the passion these big teddy bears have for their family, RU4C and for helping children. Started in Arkansas, there are now chapters in Fayetteville, AR Mt View, AR, West Plains, MO and Pryor, OK and they are looking to expand. If you want to be part of this great family and have a heart for helping children I would encourage you to check out Rider United 4 Children - www.ru4c. org. Indie

A Consumer Behavior Audit was recently conducted on Oklahoma Biker the Riders Ragazine by students from Oklahoma State University. I would like to thank each of our readers and advertisers who participated in the study and assisted with this project. The students themselves did an unbelievable job gathering and evaluating data, and then presenting it to us in a useful and easy to understand format. Lastly, I wish to thank Oklahoma State University and their professors for permitting these undergraduates to work with us, and training them to be outstanding business professionals. We are eager to apply the discoveries of this study to Oklahoma Biker throughout the upcoming New Year.

This motorcycle rally is named after a man who owned and operated an outdoor market during the 40’s to the early 60’s. He was the farmers market of his day. He sold ice cold watermelon, fruits, veggies, cold pop, ice cream by the scoop, Christmas trees, plants and lumber. He kept a homemade live well in town branch to keep last night’s sand bass fresh. The market provided for his family, which he raised next door to the market, in what is now Norris Park. If there has to be a reason why the rally is named after Big Jim I would say to remember a simpler time in history. A time when ice cold beer and watermelon on a Saturday night did the trick.

and sometimes bad things happen, I am still protected. I am not shielded from bad things but protected from their effects. I get my strength from the Force so I always win against evil. And as far as rescuing Princess Leia goes…well my wife looks pretty awesome with those hair buns on the sides of her head. Do you have the Force? Something to think about in the wind. Pastor Matt

May The Force Be With You “May the Force be with you.” When I was a kid we said those very words time and time again when we would set out through the galaxy (the field behind our house). My brother and I would take off in our X-wing Star Fighters (bicycles) and battle the dark side with our light sabers (flashlights) and our invisible power of good that is better known as “the Force.” We always won our battles because we knew that good guys, simply put, always won. We always had “the Force” so we were always protected. With a single wave of our hands we could defeat our foes and rescue Princess Leia. I thought we were only playing but as it turns out we were preparing. Who knew that Star Wars would prove such a big influence on my career? I am a pastor after all. Confused yet? Don’t be, it’s really very simple. I am (or try to be) a good guy. I may have my faults (Han Solo did too) but I am still a good guy. I battle the forces of evil with a lightsaber. A lightsaber is a sword. The sword, according to the Book of Ephesians, is the Spirit of God. The Spirit of God can also be described as The Force. So by definition I am a good guy battling evil with the Spirit of God which makes up the Force. So you see, according to my lifelong training, I will never be defeated by evil — as long as I have the Force. I listen to the voice of the Force (the Holy Spirit) and it guides me in my life. I have been completely overlooking a season which seems to be most important to some people. In the last week, I was made aware that there is a “Riding Season” that is now observed in this thing called the Biker lifestyle. Not once, but four times I listened as someone made reference to this “Season.” I heard that “Now that riding season is over” and saw that a shop was having an “End of the Season” sale. For the love of God! The end of the season? There are NO playoffs or Super Bowl after Blues, Bikes and BBQ. So, before I wander off into the land of hate mail, I will say that I do understand that in the Frozen Tundra of the Northern States, a lot of people are forced and/ or choose to put their bikes up for the winter. That’s understandable for a place that has three feet of snow on the Seasons Greetings ground for four months, but down here in the South Central part of this great country, there is no reason in hell to put Welcome to the Holiday Season! That’s your bike up for the year. There is no Right, my favorite time of the year! “riding season.” Wait! There just may be Happy New Hollow Thanksmas Eve! after all, it might be in that mythical book The “Holiday Season” that has been that has the law about waving to every restructured by sales marketing tactics bike you pass……. I was never given a and corporate greed to encompass all Holidays from Labor Day thru Valentine’s specific date as to when the end is but I was told that it may have something to Day. I’m not really sure why this pisses do with the end of places hosting Bike me off — but it really does. I can’t deal Nights. I’m not sure why a place that with the fact that aisle 1 has Halloween costumes and candy, Thanksgiving stuff hosts a bike night would stop holding a weekly event that makes them money. on aisle 2 and you got it, Christmas has aisle 3 decorations. Insert your favorite 3 (Maybe it’s because they need to start hosting Christmas events?) letters here, WTF, SMH, OMG…… I don’t see how anyone that enjoys riding But enough on that season, there are can just up and shut it off like a tap. It plenty of other “seasons” going on this time of year. It’s Football Season (one of has been in the 70’s and 80’s this past my favorites), in NASCAR it’s the end of week, great temps for this time for year the season and time for the “Chase” and and to think….. Someone’s scooter is in Major League Baseball is now at the end the garage for the winter because, the of its season and will soon crown a World season is over. Which also makes me think of all the “Bikers” that are running Series Champion. Next up we will have around with their new vests that have Basketball and Hockey. The year as we all those cool patches that they bought know it has always been divided up into and put on to try to look like a bad ass. the traditional four seasons. However, I mean how does a guy that “Rides to it has been brought to my attention that 40

Live and Lives to Ride” make it thru the “off season?” What about the Bad Ass that wears the DILLIGAF patch? I guess he must. To all the “Lone Wolf” kind of guys, be a pack of one and break the rules. If you truly live to ride (and not just so you can stand around the water cooler at Corporate HQ and astound all the khaki wearing sheep with your SOA tales), grow a set of balls, break the rules and ride ‘em if ya got ’em! Ride your bike clear into Winter, think about how impressed Biff in the next office will be when he see you ride up on your sled and it’s 30 degrees out. They make leathers to keep you warm and if that doesn’t keep you warm, try Carhartt bibs and jackets (for those of you who work inside, that’s what us that work outside in the winter wear to stay warm). Let’s not forget, it can damn well be in the 70’s in December and it would be a shame to miss out on a Christmas ride. The way I look at it, the riding season starts on January 1st, every year, weather permitting (that means there is no ice or snow on the road, not sunny and 85) and ends on December 31st, 365 days of possible stress relief. This being the Holiday edition, I would like to wish you all a Merry, Happy and safe Holiday Season!
