Skunk OKC - The Monthly Cannabis Review
Back on the proverbial hunt, the hunt for the best of the best Cannabis products in the Great Green State of Oklahoma. April is often a celebratory month for Cannabis lovers across the world with our beloved holiday of 420 or April the 20th coming up quickly. How fitting for a new classic to be spotlighted in the big April Monthly Cannabis Review. While not new to Cannabis and its craft of processing Single Source Hash Rosin. This Cannabis Company has been around since the jump off of 788 passing, making them one of the first new classic brands. Highly recognized for its super trendy Logo, its high terpene-rich strains, and its good buddy reputation, Skunk is a name to know in the Oklahoma market. Simple yet loved by many patients, Skunk is a new Classic brand for sure as they continuously bring the heat with each drip of their unmistakable quality single-source hash rosin. Their flower is cultivated in Living Soil and though astonishing itself is usually sacrificed for the greater good, their amazing Live Hash Rosin. Any Hashie out there can probably make a few strains by Skunk and possibly even had a few in their possession and knows when the next big Skunk drop will be. It is not unusual for these highly anticipated drops to sell out in one or all of the main locations they are in across this great green state. Knowing these drops is not uncommon for Hashies and Non-Hashies alike if they want to get their hands on one of Skunks' new flavors or one of the classics. This makes Skunk a patient favorite as well. We were thrilled to get a chance to ask the team at Skunk some questions.
The Chronic: How long have you been using/growing/processing cannabis?
We have been using cannabis since 2005. We have been growing and processing cannabis since 2010. We started growing cannabis as medical patients when we lived in CO to help ease our cost of medicating. A lot of our friends were impressed with what we were growing so we became caregivers in CO and continued to do that until 2018 when SQ 788 was passed and we decided to come to OK and start-up Skunk! In 2018 Dan was diagnosed with mid-high level Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma so we started our journey to make a cleaner, solventless, top-tier concentrate that could be eaten and smoked. So we found and fell in love with ice water hash and more specifically Live Hash Rosin. Ever since we have been on a mission to create the best possible concentrates we could. We have always wanted to go commercial like this but for a couple of broke boys like ourselves that was impossible without a lot of investment (which we would never do because then it becomes about profits) until SQ 788. We had family roots here and had spent a lot of time here and on and off living here over the years. Dan was declared cancer free in 2020 after surgery and radiation therapy.
The Chronic: How large is your team and who does it include?
Our team is very small! 4 full-time and 1 part-time.Dan, Chris, Zooks, Zach, and Tracy. Skunk was formed and is operated by Dan and Chris Opie.
The Chronic: Known for your outstanding single source Hash Rosin what sets you guys apart from the rest?
We are known for our single source, live hash rosin, and our live rosin jam. We are quality first always. We were the first OK rosin makers to be a complete single source. To this day we have never processed anyone else’s material. We enjoy smoking only the best so if we wouldn’t smoke it, we won’t release it. We are a small, local startup with 0 investment, we built this operation room by room, harvest by harvest, drop by drop. We pride ourselves on being as consistent as we can and only process the product that we grow ourselves to bring the highest quality hash to the state of Oklahoma. We are obsessed with pheno hunting, finding that perfect cultivar that produces amazing hash rosin! We never grow anyone else cuts that they have found. We pheno hunt everything ourselves from seed to make sure that we find our own unique flavors and effect profiles. You will have a one-of-a-kind experience every time you try a gram of Skunk Rosin. We are constantly working to provide Oklahoma patients with new and improved flavors and products. As a company we never cut costs or corners for growing and processing. We have strain-specific bright and colorful labels on our jars with hand-designed animations. As patients ourselves we strive towards making the most premium rosin we possibly can and only want to smoke the best when it comes to flavor, medicinal effects, consistency, and quality. The Chronic: What does the future hold for Skunk?
Better hash, more hash. We want to provide more patient outreach and information. There is a ton of misinformation in this industry and around the world. Such as THC% matters, when it really does not play any role in determining potency.
We want to educate more on what terpenes are and what they can do for your body, even when we are in differing moods throughout our daily lives. We want to establish a sustainable company and increase production to provide patients of Oklahoma with our products forever. We also would like to provide more culture-spreading types of merch so be on the lookout!Something else notable Skunk does is the water by hand and does everything by hand as a true small batch craft grows. Some of their best know strains are Rambutan, Cornbread, Garlic Juice, Triple Burger, Chocolate Diesel, Frozen Lemons, and Temple.
