C A N N A B I S ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM, IMMUNE SYSTEM, CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM The pandemic is shifting the way people think about health. We are finally at a point where overall health and focus on the immune system are taking precedence. Collectively, there seems to be an increased focus on making sure supplements are taken, hands are washed, and respecting the space of others. But also, there seems to be an increased interest in cannabis/ CBD for boosting the immune system.

THE HUMAN ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM AND CANNABIS/CBD Before cannabis/CBD started taking America by storm (well, legally), it seemed like the go to for anything cold and flu was orange juice, airborne, and vitamin C supplements. Now, many are starting to look at CBD and for good reason. The human endocannabinoid system and the Cannabis plant endocannabinoid system create magic together for the overall human body. A little insight into the human endocannabinoid system: The main function of the human endocannabinoid system is to maintain bodily homeostasis. Like the endocannabinoid system of the cannabis plant, the human endocannabinoid also creates cannabinoids The human endocannabinoid system is involved in a wide variety of processes including proper immune system function. 7 FEBRUARY 2022

thechronicmagazine.com

Endocannabinoid receptors are present throughout the body. In skin, immune cells, bone, fat tissue, liver, pancreas, skeletal muscle, heart, blood vessels, kidney, and gastrointestinal tract. In an article focused on cannabis and CBD for health, it says: “The ECS is generally considered to be one of the gate-keepers of the immune system, preventing the onset of overwhelming inflammatory responses that may result in disease.”

Overall, when consuming cannabis/CBD, the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the human body that feed the endocannabinoid system, contribute to the body’s overall homeostasis (a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes). The endocannabinoid system then feeds and nurtures the human immune system, and the central nervous system.

THE HUMAN IMMUNE SYSTEM AND CANNABIS/CBD The immune system is described as a network in the body, consisting of: cells, organs, and tissues that work together to destroy unfamiliar cells or particles. This process is the one that keeps us healthy and alive. Additionally, the immune system helps protect the body against toxic invaders, and also detects and eliminates cells that aren’t working properly.

As it relates to cannabis/CBD and the immune system, the link is the endocannabinoid system. “The effects of Cannabis are mediated primarily by the endocannabinoid system”,

says Project CBD, and scientists believe it interacts with all biological activity, including our immune system. There are studies that suggest that cannabinoids like THC and CBD are immunosuppressants (medications that keep the immune system in check). Cannabis/CBD contributes greatly to the human immune system. Studies have shown that cannabis can increase white blood cell counts in immunodeficiency disorders such as HIV, which suggests an immune-boosting effect. CBD Hemp Experts say: “CBD is an intelligent immunomodulator and knows exactly what reactions our body must take to aid the immune system in fighting whatever may be dampening the body's full functionality.”

THE HUMAN CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM AND CANNABIS/CBD The central nervous system is defined as: the complex of nerve tissues that controls the activities of the body. In vertebrates it comprises the brain and spinal cord. Medical News Today says: “it is referred to as ‘central' because it combines information from the entire body and coordinates activity across the whole organism. For many central nervous system conditions, such as multiple sclerosis, cannabis/CBD is a benefit. The National Library of Medicine says: “Anecdotal evidence suggests that patients with disorders such as multiple sclerosis smoke cannabis to relieve disease-related symptoms. Cannabinoids can alleviate tremor and spasticity in animal models of multiple sclerosis, and clinical trials of the use of these compounds for these symptoms are in progress.”

IN CLOSING- OVERALL HEALTH AND CANNABIS/CBD When overall health treatment, homeostasis, and balance are thought about and treatment is considered, many don’t look in the direction of essential oils. You don’t have to smoke or eat cannabis for healing, cannabis essential oils are beneficial as well. Cannabis essential oils are found in the plant's stems, leaves, stalks, and even seeds. Usually, cannabis essential oils don’t contain the cannabinoids, but they do contain terpenes. Terpenes are responsible for the aroma and flavor of the cannabis plant. They aid in pain relief, relaxation, focus, acuity, and more. These are the same terpenes that are found in orchids, apples, roses, and oranges to name a few. This piece is meant for medical advice. We always recommend discussing your health concerns with a medical professional and how cannabis/CBD can help with treatment.

Louisiana Senate candidate smokes marijuana in new campaign ad

Massachusetts marijuana excise tax revenue exceeds alcohol for first time

First year recreational cannabis sales surpass $1.2 billion in Arizona

Marijuana legalization remains a contentious political issue across the country, but that didn't stop a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate from smoking a blunt in his new campaign ad.

If there's any doubt about weed's popularity, just hit the road — billboards are seemingly everywhere advertising recreational marijuana stores.

It's been one year since the first legal sale of recreational marijuana began in Arizona. And state officials are reporting that total gross sales have surpassed more than a billion dollars.

"States waste $3.7 billion enforcing marijuana laws every year. Most of the people police are arresting aren't dealers but rather people with small amounts of pot, just like me," Chambers says in the ad, which cites the American Civil Liberties Union. Chambers explained on social media that he hopes the ad: “works to not only destigmatize the use of marijuana, but also forces a new conversation that creates the pathway to legalize this beneficial drug and forgive those who were arrested due to outdated ideology.” Source: usatoday.com

The numbers back it up, too. Since adult-use retailers opened in Massachusetts in November 2018, gross total sales have now reached $2.54 billion, according to data from the Cannabis Control Commission. While tax data shows alcohol consumption is hardly plummeting, the meteoric rise in cannabis use speaks to changing attitudes about recreational alcohol and marijuana use. For the first time, marijuana excise taxes have exceeded alcohol's. At the same midway point this fiscal year, the state has collected $74.2 million as December 2021. Source:https://www.wcvb.com/

"Rarely does an industry produce over $1.2 billion in revenue in its first year. This number shows that the legalization of cannabis is something Arizonans believe strongly in and the many benefits it contributes to the state's economy," said Samuel Richard, the Executive Director of the Arizona Dispensaries Association (ADA) The association says that the tax revenue generated has exceeded $190 million before including December's sales. The ADA says that means the State of Arizona is on track to receive $215 million in tax revenue for 2021. The association says that the tax revenue generated has exceeded $190 million before including December's sales. thechronicmagazine.com

The ADA says that means the State of Arizona is on track to receive $215 million in tax revenue for 2021. It's much more than had been estimated because the state legislature had expected legal recreational cannabis to generate about $166 million in annual revenue after the program became

"more fully operational in the next several years." The ADA says Arizona's first year surpassed other Western states that legalized recreational use of marijuana, including Nevada, which reported nearly $425 million in revenue. A full breakdown of data can be found on the Arizona Department of Revenue's website. Source:https://www.azfamily.com/

INFLUENCERS

T

he age of influencers is still alive and doing well. Currently there is no formal definition or criteria of what makes an influencer, some descriptions of an influencer must have a certain number of followers on a social media platform. Others simply view an influencer as an individual who has the power to influence other’s decisions, behaviors, opinions, etc. Before I go any further, let’s all agree that everyone has been or can be influenced in some way. So, why not fill your daily scrolling, viewing, and listening with some awesome cannabis influencers from across all the social media platforms or spend time looking up the ones who don’t use social media.

MICRO-DOSING MUSHROOMS

The new

Love Affair WRITTEN BY: NATE ELISAH

Yea Yea I know… You are probably thinking “Aye, I thought this was a weed magazine?” But in a forever changing and growing world, scientists, doctors, and even patients are finding new ways to deal with and improve mental health. Even with all the beneficial factors that come with doing cannabis, some may feel that psychedelics are the way to go when dealing with anxiety, depression, and any if not all mental illnesses. Just like my column back in 2021 talking about Delta-8 THC bans, psychedelics at the moment are not legal in most states but are starting to stir up some buzz in the medical world. This is due to research and studies of those who prefer psychedelics over cannabis and those who are suffering from anxiety and depression after a life-changing pandemic that affected a lot of people’s mental health. In this article, we’ll be diving into the pros and cons of microdosing or even taking sufficient amounts of “magic mushrooms” for medical purposes and the reasons that states are considering the legalization of shrooms. First, what are psychedelic mushrooms? and how do they affect the human brain? Well according to MyHealthAlerta.Ca, ” Magic mushrooms (also called shrooms or mushrooms) are a type of mushroom that contains the drugs psilocybin or psilocin. These drugs cause hallucinations.” The website then goes on to say that “you can feel the effects of mushrooms in about 30 minutes and they last about 3 to 6 hours. The effects are strongest (the peak) during the first 3 to 4 hours. thechronicmagazine.com

Mushrooms can change the way you see, smell, hear, taste, and touch (e.g., you might think you can see music or hear colors). Your body might feel very heavy or very light. You might feel like you are having a magical or religious experience while taking mushrooms, with this all said, this has the effect of taking a significant amount of mushrooms. According to the New York Times, Psilocybin can cause distressing hallucinations or feelings of panic and anxiety in some patients, especially at high doses, You can’t be guaranteed safety standards. Those who don't normally take or even like the feel of psychedelics may find microdose shrooms to have a different effect that's not so extreme to the mind. According to Insider.com “Microdosing" is a term referring to the practice of taking small doses of a drug such as mushrooms. A microdose is typically about one-tenth of a recreational dose” Microding brings the overall effect of psychedelics to a tenth of the high, making it just the right amount to relieve or help with mental problems. Psilocybin — the psychedelic compound in mushrooms — is considered a Schedule I substance. The psilocybin in mushrooms binds to and stimulates serotonin 2A receptors in the brain. In high doses, it can cause effects such as An altered state of mind,

Altered sensory perception, and previously said, hallucinations.” Also since shrooms are a “schedule I substance”, means the government has deemed it illegal with a strong potential for abuse. Also since shrooms are a “schedule I substance”, means the government has deemed it illegal with a strong potential for abuse. 15

FEBRUARY 2022

thechronicmagazine.com

But this may not be the case forever as the legalization of psychedelics is becoming a reality to some and maybe soon to most. Insight from CNBC states that “Oregon has recently become the first state to legalize the active ingredient in so-called magic mushrooms on an election night and saw that more states ease restrictions on recreational drugs across the country.” CNBC then goes on to say that “Oregon’s Measure 109 will give legal access to psilocybin, the main active ingredient in “magic mushrooms,” for mental health treatment in supervised settings, the measure was passed with 55.8% support and over 2 million votes cast”, according to Oregon’s Secretary of State. With this said, the potential for national influence is possible as the talks of legislation of any form of psychedelics are being held by drug eased restricted state governments across the nation. So there you have it, people around you are going to slowly start living that Scooby and Shaggy hippie life like it's the 80s and end each sentence with “man” and talk about love and world peace all due to the fungi… As funny as that would be, we have to put all jokes aside and think, maybe this is the beginning of a great thing? A great thing for the American people, a great thing for patients, and overall a great thing for society as a whole. Mental illness is not a joke and needs to be dealt with soon. Depression and anxiety are creativity killers and we lose so many people every day of the year due to these mental illnesses. If psychedelics and microdose psilocybin are the best and current answer to this issue with majority positive feedback on the drug, would it not be in our best interest to research more on psychedelics for possible legalization of psychedelic treatments for patients? Ponder this question medical enthusiasts and like the Shroom told the hitchhiking hippie… Have a nice TRIP! thechronicmagazine.com

One processor in Choctaw said a few months ago, 90 percent of their product was failing inspection. 1440 Processing explains that a lot of the marijuana coming to them from marijuana growers fails to meet industry standards due to high levels of pesticides, heavy metals and other dangerous chemicals. Late last year, they said 90 percent of cannabis they bought failed lab tests.

They report spending tens of thousands of dollars testing products on their own dime to ensure quality. To get their fail rate down, 1440 significantly limited the number of growers they deal with – out of a pool of over 8,000 growers in the state. “It’s maybe at the 10 percent range now because most of the people that we invite back are people that we’ve vetted multiple times and we try not to waste our time with the people that constantly come back with more pesticides or heavy metals still in their material,” he said. General Manager Chris Manovsky added that their concern isn’t only wasted money and time, but their consumers.“They’re putting this product in their body,” he said. “We want to make certain that the products that we are putting out there are very clean and meet the standards, not only OMMA standards but 1440 standards.” Source: https://kfor.com/

N

ope. Do you really have to follow both? YES! Medical Marijuana laws were drafted and voted on in the form of State Question 788. Once passed by a vote, they became law and can be found in Oklahoma Statute Title 63 Section 420. These laws, or statutes, in Title 63, are the foundation for regulations and give the State Department of Health its power to create regulations. The statutes state, in part, that the State Department of Health (OSDH) shall receive and review applications, make information available, keep information about applicants safe, and more. The OSDH then created the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA). The OSDH is acting well within its right in delegating this oversight to the newly created OMMA. As stated in Subchapter one of the OMMA regulations, the OMMA’s purpose is to ensure the health and safety of all Oklahomans and provide reasonable and orderly regulation of medical marijuana. The OMMA is defined as the regulatory authority and a division of the OSDH. Why is this important? The OSDH got their power from the statutes in Title 63 and then they created the OMMA to deal with all things regarding medical marijuana. The OMMA is a regulatory body and operates pursuant to administrative laws because they are a state agency created by statute. They do not make laws. They simply make regulations and rules that, in theory, help (or force) people dealing in medical marijuana to follow the underlying laws. If you follow the regulations, you are following the law. If you violate a regulation, you are violating a law, in theory. The sticky part about laws and regulations is that agency regulations cannot be more restrictive than state laws. The OMMA, and other agencies, must follow the rules laid out in the Administrators Procedure Act found in Title 75 in applying their rules and regulations as well as changing them. Agency regulations can be changed more quickly than enact new state laws. There are checks on these agencies, such as the public comment period. The OMMA just wrapped up a comment hearing regarding proposed amendments and a recording of the hearing can be found on their website at https://oklahoma.gov/omma/administration/rulesregulations.html. At the end of the day, you must follow the law and in following the law you must also follow the OMMA’s rules and regulations related to medical marijuana. A Look Back At Cannabis by Alesha Wilson, M. Ed.

Certified Cannabis Therapy Consultant

W

hen looking back at cannabis in Oklahoma in 2021, it’s hard to ignore the reports that mention over a “billion-dollars” in sales since 2018. It’s also impressive to see the number of dispensaries climb over 2500 and growers reach over 9400 (per the December 2021 reporting at OMMA). One might say, “… you’re doing fine Oklahoma.” Yet, FINE isn’t going to create the change needed for cannabis to reach its full potential. The state has an opportunity to help cannabis reach that potential but only if the people involved adjust their focus in 2022. 2021 promised new beginnings, it's time was to be spent getting over 2020 - the year from hell. Oklahoma’s 2021 did generate some good – but also showed there is room for growth. I asked one former patient to share about her decision not to renew and she stated, “I got my license to try and get off some of my meds. But every time we went to a dispensary, they wanted to make a sale or give me an uneducated opinion.

This made me feel uncomfortable. I needed an educated opinion and for someone to take the time to do so. Most of the time, you are dealing with very young adults who are smoking just to get high and party. They don’t have the first idea of what it’s like to have depression and anxiety. This is why I chose not to renew my card and to continue my meds.” I submitted an open records request with OMMA asking for the number of patients who have not renewed their license since 2018, the record was not available before the print deadline. Curious to see how many patients may have felt the same way, it is inevitable that not all in the industry will stay but leadership could help. Leadership is a funny thing in Oklahoma – Sports figures do well it seems and the Governor always makes the news, so what about leadership in the cannabis industry in the state? In August 2021, the OMMA saw its fourth Director hired and it is unclear to the public at this time in what way the controlling agency is going to go.

One suggestion is to lead Oklahoma out of the “wild west” and kill the stigma that has long plagued the plant and the people who consume it. It seems unlikely that Oklahoma officials would include the slang term “marijuana” on patient licenses given the decades of “politically correct” campaign examples, but they did. The U.S. did not start using the term “marijuana” until it was used to categorize what they thought to be criminal usage in the early 1900’s. In 1915, the U.S. Government published Farmers Bulletin No. 663, titled Drug Plants Under Cultivation that shows the government providing instruction on how to grow the plant. Today, it seems hard to imagine the U.S. Government providing an instruction brochure on how to grow cannabis and categorizing it with other drug plants such as anise, dill, and thyme. It makes one wonder where the world of cannabis would be if the,

“... government officials consider it as simply another subject of rational, scientific inquiry, lying squarely within the newly professionalized realms of medicine and agriculture.” 1 Until consumers in the state focus on the holistic healing benefits of the cannabis plant instead of getting high, there will always be reports of misuse as was seen in the media in 2021. If Oklahoma cannabis wants a better public image, then advertisement to the masses should not include a carefree usage of the plant. To date, it appears advertisements are geared toward a very small percentage of individuals that have the flexibility to consume without restrictions. Upon talking with a local dispensary owner, the first two years of the sale of cannabis was filled with disappointment, 23

FEBRUARY 2022

thechronicmagazine.com

which led to the stores closing at the end of 2021,

“market saturation, high tax rates, and the decision by most consumers to purchase cannabis for the sole purpose of getting high led to poor profits.” When the legalization of cannabis came about in Oklahoma, the promise was to provide medicinal grade products that could be tailored to specific ailments, but when entering multiple dispensaries city wide, most staff are new to the industry and cannot help the consumer choose tailored products. Getting high is a wonderful result, but wouldn’t it be better, if getting the results included true relief of the symptoms the card was issued for? The most common ailments of those people I’ve interviewed seem to include pain and anxiety, but did you know that it can alleviate dandruff? It is a pretty cool plant and Oklahomans, including state officials and agencies,

need to delve into resources that have long been in the shadows but are valid just the same.By hiring professionals, the state could become an industry leader in research and development. The state has medical research facilities in place but federal red tape continues to plague growers, dispensaries, and consumers keeping a valuable, but widely misunderstood resource undiscovered. It is as if the state is still in the early 1900’s where it became demonized by bad research and reporting. Yet, cannabis has so much more to offer than the high as the end result. If Oklahoma could come together in industry and legislation, the state could benefit greatly. Regardless of the number of renewed and unrenewed licenses, education should be a primary focus. Introducing recreational usage prematurely could interfere with the progression of cannabis’ potential. With some modifications, the industry can be a wealth of information.

A great place to start would be for growers to designate sections of their crop for specific cultivars proven to treat targeted ailments. The challenge to growers will be if they can unite and commit some portion of their efforts to cultivars that may not provide a heavy yield, because make no joke about it, most are in the industry to make money just like other agricultural producers in the state. And for dispensaries, displaying products in a manner patients can see the recommended cannabinoids/terpenes for their medical conditions and have the product tests readily available for patient viewing. Going across the state to events like Harvest Fest, Cann Women Midwest Conference, and The Cowboy Cup, I have not encountered a situation where the concern is not about doing a great job. Everyone seems to want to be in it for the common good, and make a little money; however, Oklahoma has made it easy to enter into the field of medicine by placing saloon doors at the entry and it is up to the state to remain in the wild west and at the bottom of another list, or a civilized, well-run industry that could sweep the plains. 1

Autism has been on the books for more than seventy years, and our thinking about the condition has changed dramatically. During college, I had a professor who looked after her autistic son. She shared stories, struggles, and daily hardships, such as taking her child to get a haircut. One of the big projects we had to complete to pass the class was a minimum of a fifteen-page research paper on autism. It could be anything I wanted it to be as long as it was about autism, and I learned a lot, such as how intelligent autistic. In the early 1900s, the word autism was first used to describe a subset of schizophrenic patients who were especially withdrawn and selfabsorbed. Then came psychiatrist Kanner who studied autistic children, published a paper describing eleven children who were highly intelligent but displayed a powerful desire for aloneness and an obsessive insistence on persistent sameness and labeled their condition "early infantile autism." By 1944, a German scientist Hans Asperger described a milder form of autism known as Asperger's Syndrome. The cases he reported were all highly intelligent boys but had trouble with social interactions and specific obsessive interests. In 1980 "Infantile autism" was listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) for the first time; the condition is also officially separated from childhood schizophrenia. Several years later, the DSM replaced "infantile autism" with a more expansive definition of "autism disorder" and included a diagnostic criteria checklist. UCLA psychologist Ivar Lovaas, Ph.D., publishes the first study showing how intensive behavior therapy can help children with autism.

By the '90s, the federal government made autism a particular education category. Public schools begin identifying children on the spectrum and offering them exceptional services. In 2013, The DSM-5 comprised all subcategories of the condition into one umbrella diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Asperger's Syndrome is no longer considered a separate condition, and ASD is defined by two categories: 1) Impaired social communication and interaction. 2) Restricted and repetitive behaviors. Now 2022, autism is recognized as a spectrum disorder; each person with autism has a distinct set of strengths and challenges. How people with autism learn, think, and problemsolve can range from highly skilled to severely challenged. As a result, some people with ASD may require significant support in their daily lives, while others may need less help and, in some cases, live entirely independently.

Research has proven several factors influencing the development of autism. It is often accompanied by sensory sensitivities and medical issues such as gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, seizures, sleep disorders, and mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, and attention deficit. People with ASD also have a higher-than-average risk of having epilepsy. According to a systematic review done by PubMed, children whose language skills regress early in life appear to have a risk of developing epilepsy or seizurelike brain activity. Recent studies demonstrate that twenty to thirty percent of children with ASD develop epilepsy by reaching adulthood. Additionally, people with both ASD and intellectual disability have the most significant risk of developing a seizure disorder. As if it cannot worsen, there are no "cures" for ASD. Instead, for some autistic patients, supportive therapies and other considerations can help them feel better or alleviate specific symptoms.

Some of those approaches involve treatments such as: behavioral therapy play therapy occupational therapy physical therapy speech therapy However, results will vary. Some people may respond well to specific approaches, while others may not. Other caregivers are turning a new leaf when choosing natural remedies; however, parents and caregivers should weigh the research and financial costs against any possible benefits before investing in any alternative treatment. There are a handful of natural remedies available. Some being high doses of vitamins, Epsom salt, melatonin, and now medical cannabis. Medical marijuana has been a solution in alleviating outbursts of rage, seizures, and temper tantrums among autism patients.

Cannabis and cannabis-based products such as concentrates and tinctures can be responsible for lessening any erratic actions that may have occurred in the past. In addition, research demonstrates that patients who use medical marijuana to treat their symptoms become incredibly relaxed and very attentive to what they are doing. In other words, consuming cannabis serves as an exceptional behavioral modification, which can protect both the health and safety of an autistic patient. In many studies published by the National Library of Medicine, medical cannabis is being researched to treat seizures, communication problems, the tendency to self-harm, inability to sleep, and much more. The patients who received medical marijuana daily saw improvement in at least one of ASD's core symptoms, including repetitive behaviors, social communication, and language. In addition, things like food acceptance, sensory difficulties, seizures, sleep, and feeding disorders also improved in most cases. There is no one right way to treat autism; however, more research will be concluded in the following years. One recent finding from ASD animal models indicates a possible dysregulation of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) signaling behaviors. This dysregulation was suggested to be also present in ASD patients. Therefore, the mechanism of action for the effect of cannabis on ASD may involve GABA and glutamate transmission regulation. ASD is characterized by an excitation and inhibition imbalance of GABA and glutamatergic signaling in different brain structures. The ECS is involved in modulating imbalanced GABA and glutamatergic transmission. Another mechanism of action can be through oxytocin and vasopressin, neurotransmitters that act as essential modulators of social behaviors. Cannabidiol enhanced oxytocin and vasopressin release during activities involving social interaction. Always consult with your doctor before consuming. 29

Now back to our flour and cocoa mixture, we will start to add that and about ⅓ of the milk to our butter mixture and beat on low. 4. THE WORLD OF CANNABINOIDS AND TERPENES

What is Octanol?

T

here are over 150 different types of terpenes in the cannabis plant. Although most terpenes are present in trace amounts, the most prominent ones work together to give different cannabis cultivars their distinct aroma profiles. Octanol is a rare terpene in cannabis and produces a pleasant floral aroma. Octanol is found in frankincense, which is an aromatic resin used in incense and perfumes. This terpene is also common in celery seeds, so that gives you a faint idea of the aroma. Primary terpenes are abundant in cannabis and are responsible for the fragrance created by cultivars. Secondary terpenes are present in modest concentration and contribute to the cultivar’s effects. Octanol is a secondary terpene. Terpenes have a variety of biological effects. Octanol is known for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, according to scientists. It has a potent anti-inflammatory in its molecular synergy when combined with pinene and linalool. Octanol is known to be helpful with: Anti-inflammation Neurological Issues Essential Tremors Antioxidant Benefits

Not all cannabis cultivars are alike, and as organic farmers continue to breed their specific genetics, users need to know what a cannabinoid profile COA is. Knowing the flower they are sampling can bring the best experience and outcome, and help to make an educated decision on what will be the best product for their medical ailment. OG FARMS By Melissa Hall, M.Ed.

ack on the hunt and as February rolls around the 2022 calendar, you can feel the love in the air for sure. As store shelves are fully lined with those cliché teddies bears holding I love you hearts and boxes and boxes of chocolates galore, we are reminded of that wonderful holiday that people seem to either love or hate. Valentine’s Day. One doesn’t usually think of Cannabis when it comes to the big V Day gift.

With amazing flowers, prerolls and now standing out with not only stunning photos, but the idea of truly gifting their beautiful buds in these enamored bouquets, Organic Glaze Farms will be holding a spot on even more top shelves than they already do. The Chronic was able to chat with one of OG Farms owners to ask a few questions about their grow, team and that awesome bouquet worthy flower.

Unless they are Cannabis lovers. Cannabis is the gift that keeps giving for any holiday. I knew instantly when I saw photos of these amazing bouquets with actual dried, cured Cannabis flowers mixed in with the traditional roses, lilies, and baby's breath, that I had to step out of the box for The Big February Review. The flower itself is spectacular and the growers really outdid themselves with the creativity behind these smokable Valentine's Bouquets. The good folks over at Organic Glaze Farms decided to display their outstanding flower in a way that is sure to catch anyone’s eye and even possibly their heart.

Starting his cultivation journey in a home grow setting experimenting with organics Justin Glaze soon found Brandon Rust of Bokashi Earth works and quickly realized utilizing his techniques could give him the confidence to scale to a 100 light facility Now operating with him & 3 assistants.

The team at Organic Glaze will be doing custom orders for these better than your average VDay beauties. I have been impressed with the team at Organic Glaze Farms for a while now. Popping out with strains like Chernobyl, Deep Deuce Daryl, Cake Crasher, MAC, Kitchen Sink and so many more heaters, The OG logo Synonymous with their brand has become very recognized around the Oklahoma Cannabis Market. The crew is also pheno hunting all the time to find the best quality strains to provide for the patients. Organic Glaze also rolls a mean preroll, strain specific and all flowers these pre rolls are truly exceptional.

When asked about his experience as a patient and with growing cannabis, Glaze replied, “As a patient I am happy to use and provide clean quality cannabis to the patients of Oklahoma. So thankful for 788 & an opportunity in a new industry that this medicine is available for me to legally use unlike the oilfield industry I was in for 15 years.” The change of career seems to be a perfect fit for The Glaze family. He added, “What sets us apart is our all organic living soil with biweekly soil tests that make sure our plants nutrition is always on point. Their motto states it all “Organically Grown to the Highest Standard” Future plans of the OG Farm will be, “To continue to grow clean high quality cannabis for the patients of Ok and To have a well maintained & cared for facility where every plant gets plenty of attention.

The hard working team has product all over the State, but to give everyone a heads up on where to find OG flower and more, Glaze said, “We are proud to do business with Mango Cannabis, High Society, Gold Leaf (Woodward), Bokashi Earth Works, Big Rootz Soil, Jeff Hooten, John Dorsey, Xen Extracts and The Chronic Magazine, being featured in What’s on the Shelves and the exclusive holiday gift guide. Hey, there fellow weed enthusiasts!

Trust me “Spider-Man: No Way Home” at

Welcome to a new segment of Where to

Smoke? This is going to be a little different

on the “Stuffed French Toast“ strain I picked

due to me not having a chance to actually go out to an OMMA card holder-friendly venue anytime recently, but I still wanted to drop some personal experience I have had smoking in this beautiful state of Oklahoma. As I don't condone smoking in any public place that's not allowed under Oklahoma marijuana smoking guidelines… Let’s just be honest with ourselves for a second and understand that most people and probably you reading this right now have maybe and most likely smoked in your car before attending something, probably lit a spliff walking down the street with a friend, and probably got high before enjoying a movie and eating out.

up at American Cannabis Company, it was $35 for that beautiful ounce, but back on the topic of where to smoke. Pretty sure, I'm not the only one to experience this but going Downtown near the riverwalk baked, is a great experience. Yea yea, I already know what some of you all are thinking,

“all that walking is

going to kill my high” Well as I said before, I don't condone smoking where you are not legally supposed to, but of course, If you ate some edibles and even have a dab pen, I don’t see any reason for a person to not have a great time on the OKC canal riverwalk.

I mean it’s not like you're in a high school bathroom with five kids asking you to take a rip of their pen before class, you’re minding your business and enjoying all the gorgeous agriculture this state has to offer either by yourself or even with a group of friends. What more can you want?

You have plenty of places to eat like Sonic’s burger and shakes, Fuzzy’s street tacos and Mexican cuisine, and or even get some food after a round of bowling at HeyDay, there are varieties of options to choose from. You could literally take a water taxi tour on the canal and right after enjoying a movie or go to Brickopolis arcade games and mini-golf and have a blast. That's not even half of what you can do there. Take at the moment to just realize how beautifully designed the area is and all the little things that keep Oklahoma beautiful. Such as having our native heritage with all the greatly designed bison statues you see scattered all over the area. Plus all the artwork and attractions you can just see just by looking around. I don't know it's just something about growing up in a city where you have seen change for the better over time that is really amazing. I would've never thought that our city would have an official NBA team, new skyscrapers, and even streetcar transportation like San Francisco. At the end of the day, as I'm glad that my city has grown up and has become more of a tourist attraction, it's not the attractions that bring or excite people, it's the people of this great state that make it happen. That's why my next “Where To Smoke” and rest following is going to be for the people of this state. I’ll love to completely see what this state has to offer for the causal and extreme weed smokers. This will do it for this month’s column, see y'all for the next and always stay safe, stay kind, and stay high.

DID THEY WORK?

Anti-Marijuana Ads

By Chynna Pearson

Remember all those antimarijuana ads? What did they accomplish, if anything? Because let's be honest, even Nancy Regan can admit the winner of the War on Drugs was drugs. I know way too many stoners who wear D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) shirts ironically and who had previously signed the oath never to touch the stuff. For me and most of my friends, D.A.R.E didn’t do its job but, it also didn’t make us more curious. It simply did not work for us and many others. Just in case these ads aren’t coming back to you, let’s mention some of the more known ones. Some ads have been recently turned into memes, like the one where a girl is deflated on the couch (I’ve seen people say, “I want what she was smoking,” in reference to her). Another was parodied on Family Guy, a man is too concerned with smoking to take care of his dog and it makes the dog sad. But, one of the most memorable ones is the eggs in a frying pan with a voice over saying,

“THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON DRUGS.” There are many more, but just for reminders sake, those are all I will describe. Additionally, anti-drug ads used to be in newspapers and on posters in schools, they were not only in the form of commercials. Let’s go back to the time when anti-drug ads would run at all times of the day, the 80s’, 90s’, and early 2000s’. (Interestingly enough, there are even some anti-drug/marijuana ads that are still running in conservatice areas and being produced today!) When the War on Drugs started, “Just say no,” was the most popular saying to combat drug use.

However, the “Just say no'' campaign was created around the time of the Crack Epidemic of the 1980s, it had little to do with other drugs as that was the main focus at that time. According to History.com, “In 1985, the proportion of Americans who saw drug abuse as the nation’s “number one problem,” was between 2 percent and 6 percent. In 1989, that number jumped to 64 percent.”

As time progressed and public concern for drugs increased, all drugs were encompassed in “Just say no.” That is when D.A.R.E. was introduced to about 75% of American schools in the early 80s and continues today (although it is not in as many schools today and the ones that do have an adjusted “hands-on” approach). As of 2001, the Surgeon General, Dr. David Satcher, has categorized D.A.R.E as an “ineffective primary prevention program.” When looking into this further, The New York Times reported that these ads “at best had no effect on drug use, research shows. At worst, exposure to the campaign might have actually increased the likelihood of adolescent marijuana use.'' A study by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, U.S. National Library of Medicine (NCBI), shows that in thousands of adolescents surveyed from 1999 to 2004, that there was no change in the prevalence of marijuana use for those who did and those who didn’t get exposed to anti-marijuana campaigns. It did not even correlate with the rising percentage of people who agreed with anti-marijuana ads. Some of the adolescents studied reported to have seen weekly ads, even then, they continued to or went to try marijuana. thechronicmagazine.com

FEBRUARY 2022

@Rare Historical Photos

Due to this research, it can be said that anti-drug campaigns don’t do much to keep people away from marijuana. Some people believe that ads and campaigns like D.A.R.E actually incentivize teens to try drugs by exposing them to things they may not have known about without the campaign. This could be due to pure curiosity or simply the urge to rebel against social norms. One study that I have come across actually could show the results they wanted was the Above the Influence campaign. This campaign was less about demonizing drugs and more about showing teens that not using drugs maximized the freedom of youth, basically, they didn’t need to experiment with drugs to enjoy their youth. After this campaign, a study was done with another couple thousand adolescents. This study was done by the NCBI also and it did show that over 2 years with the Above the Influence campaign the students have trended downward in marijuana use. Although this campaign did work, it is important to note that that is not the norm and not common to see with campaigns like it. Ultimately, after doing more research into anti-drug ads, it seems that studies have shown that none of these programs and ads truly had any help to offer. Unfortunately, the laws that were put in place at this time, whether you support anti-drug ads or not, have had a lasting impact on the drug enforcement as a whole, and not always in a good way. The lasting effects for BIPOC (Black and Indigeonus People of Color) have been detrimental to communities all over the United States. It is a well known fact that drug laws disproportionately affect minorities and due to this prisons and jails are overflowing with non-violent drug/marijuana offenders, even in some states with legal marijuana. It is a completely insane notion that there are people in prison for what others are making millions of dollars off of. It is something that we, as marijuana lovers, should advocate for and actively try to change. If some of us are still persecuted, none of us are truly free.

Betty White Lives With Cannabis Strain Named for Her

Rapper Vic Mensa Busted with Psychedelic Drugs at DC Airport

Jennifer Lawrence in 'Don't Look Up': 'I've Got to Get High'

Louisiana Senate Candidate Gary Chambers Smokes Blunt in Campaign Video

If you live as long as Betty White did, it's a good chance you'll have a cannabis strain named after you.

Returning from a trip to Africa, Vic Mensa was stopped and searched at Dulles International Airport in Washington, DC on January 15. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) found the 28-year-old Chicago rapper in possession of LSD and psilocybin mushroom products.

Jennifer Lawrence plays a pot smoker in Adam McKay's new movie Don't Look Up, currently in theaters and on Netflix. In fact, Lawrence says she lit up before one of her scenes with Meryl Streep.

Senate hopeful Gary Chambers Jr. of Louisiana addresses the outdated cannabis laws that target people of color, all while smoking a blunt, in a new campaign video.

Betty White passed away at 99 years of age on Dec. 31. She was one of America's best-loved actresses.

Betty White: "I don't do dope jokes." White was not a known weed smoker, though Joan Rivers once said she used to get high with her in the "dark ages." In 2010, White said, “I don’t do dope jokes. “In one episode of Hot in Cleveland, my character goes into a room and thinks she smells marijuana. One of TV's Golden Girls, White was three weeks shy of 100 when she died.

According to a CBP press release: "Officers discovered about 41 grams of liquid Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD), about 124 grams of Psilocybin capsules, 178 grams of Psilocybin gummies, and six grams of Psilocybin mushrooms concealed inside Mensa’s luggage." Mensa, whose full name is Victor Mensah, was charged with felony narcotics possession and taken into custody. He'd been traveling with Chance the Rapper in Ghana prior to returning to the U.S.

Here's the backstory: Don't Look Up, which pairs Lawrence with Leonardo DiCaprio, is about astronomers Kate Dibiasky and Dr. Randall Mindy, who discover a comet hurtlng towards Earth that no one seems to know about.

Lawrence: “Everyone was fucking with me… I guess because I was high. Easy to fuck with.” It's rare for actors to play characters stoned, even when that's what the script calls for. Usually, a nonintoxicating herbal alternative like oregano is smoked during scenes that call for cannabis.

A Louisiana politician who is running for a congressional seat is appealing to voters by showcasing his own personal cannabis use while addressing the failed War on Drugs. Louisiana Senate candidate Gary Chambers, released the video on YouTube entitled “37 Seconds” to sum up the problems with the War on Drugs and the need for social justice now—all while sitting in a chair smoking a blunt.
