10 ways to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with Cannabis
Green. Green. Green. Whether it’s money, weed, or four-leaf clovers, I know you like something green. Since St. Patrick’s Day requires you to wear something green, you might as well smoke some green too. St. Patrick’s Day, while most people just use it as a day to get wasted, has a deep and rich history. Obviously, St. Patrick’s Day originated in Ireland. Time reported that, “the March 17th celebration started in 1631 when the Church established a Feast Day honoring St. Patrick. He had been Patron Saint of Ireland who had died around the fifth century—a whopping 12 centuries before the modern version of the holiday was first observed.” Modern-day traditions, like the lucky shamrock or the color green, weren’t being fully fleshed out until the early 18th century. As of today, we use March 17th as a day to party and have some good fun. So... let’s get into how to party and celebrate with cannabis on St. Paddy’s Day!
01
Wear Some Specific Green
Instead of wearing the classic pot of gold or four-leaf clover, be different and wear all cannabis-themed clothing. That way, you can not get pinched while still sporting your favorite seven-leafed flower! If you don’t have any clothes like that, check out your favorite smoke shop for some classic weed merchandise. They typically have hats, beanies, shirts, sweaters, and leggings. If you have enough time, you could even find some cooler and more unique items on Amazon or Etsy. Or an easier way is just to spill your grinder on your shirt and wear green that way, I’m sure we’ve all been there before.
02
Infuse Classic St. Patrick's Day Foods
Ireland isn’t well known for its food, but there are many dishes that are pretty easy to make after a quick run to the grocery store. Traditional Irish foods are things like Shepherd’s Pie, Soda Bread, Colcannon and Champ (kind of a loaded mashed potato), Boxty (potato pancakes), and Blood Pudding (not a dessert, a sausage made from blood). No, I didn’t mention Corned Beef and Cabbage because it didn’t originate in Ireland. However, the dish was reportedly created in America by Irish immigrants in the late 1800s. As we’re American, I guess we can count it if we want to.
03
Try Infused Alcohol
Everyone and their mother will be drinking on St. Patrick’s Day, but you don’t have to get drunk to feel like you’re celebrating St. Patrick’s Day properly. One of the cannabis industries' new favorite infusions are infused alcohols. Check your local dispensaries and see if they have anything like infused alcohol. If there isn’t anything near you, try looking for syrups and things to mix into your favorite mocktail! If you really want to stay in theme, drink something green too.
04
Watch Irish Movies
This is a fun way to explore different types of movies that you may not be exposed to typically. Some of the highest rated Irish movies are My Left Foot, The Young Offenders, Cardboard Gangster, Darby O'Gill And The Little People, The Irish Pub, The Crying Game, The Snapper, Ounce, Brooklyn, and In the Name of the Father. Each of the mentioned movies are highly-rated and the majority of them are full of critically acclaimed actors like Daniel Day-Lewis. If the “Irish movies” you prefer are American movies about something that seems Irish, check out Luck of the Irish or any of the seven Leprechaun movies. Grab some Indica and some popcorn, this will be good!
05
Commune with the Green of Nature
The best type of green you’ll ever find is outside, Mother Nature made a million different shades that only become prettier to look at after smoking some of that green. Spending the day outside is always a fun and refreshing way to hang out, alone or with friends. Be sure to take all your smoking supplies and all your hiking provisions so the day can last as long as you want. Depending on where you live, you may be able to find some clover patches to search for the lucky four-leafed clover. In all my years of searching, I have yet to find one. If you do choose to spend St. Patrick’s Day with Mother Nature, remember to always tell someone where you are going even if you’re going with friends. Safety is more important than any holiday adventure!
06
Find a Local Event
Lots of places have events to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Take an edible and make your way there! Most areas are likely to have parade bar parties, or food festivals. If this is your choice of party on St. Paddy’s Day, invite some friends to join you! Events are real life examples of “the more the merrier!” In my area, there will be parades, runs for charity, bowling parties, and more. My friends and I are going to the parade then to a St. Patrick’s Day trivia night! We’ll be taking edibles beforehand, you should too!
07
Create Your Own St. Patrick’s Day Party
If you can’t find an event that you think would be fun, throwing your own party is an easy option. St. Patrick’s Day is on a Friday this year, so it’s the perfect night for a good time! For me, I love hosting themed parties. While this may seem like a lot of work, time, and money, there are ways to throw beautiful and fun parties without breaking the bank. The party can be B.Y.O.W. (bring your own weed), and the themed decorations can all be from the dollar store, I promise nobody will know! If you do want to provide your guests with some cannabis, you can easily infuse a punchbowl for less than $40. Be sure to have any guest order Ubers or Lyfts, no high or drunk driving!
08
Buy St. Patrick’s Themed Strains
Since there are hundreds of different strains out there it’s fun to buy strains themed to the holiday. Here are a list of strains to look for near you:Rainbow Mintz, Prayer Pupil, Jealousy, Green Crack, Green Dream, Emerald OG, Lucky Charms, Pot O Gold, Candyland, and Green Haze. Enjoy responsibly!
09
Grab a Shamrock Shake
This is a controversial one. You can only complete this task if you like mint ice cream. (It doesn’t take the toothpaste, guys, it’s delicious!) If you do, right now is the only time of year when you can go to McDonald’s and get a green, sweet, creamy, minty seasonal shake. Head to your closest Mickey D’s (I know there is one within five miles!) and treat yourself to the minty goodness! Add a fry too, just in case you feel like dipping. Once you get it, be sure to add in something for infusing!

Learn About Ireland
We celebrate St. Patrick’s Day every year and most of us have never looked into why it exists or why we would celebrate in America when St. Patrick is Irish. For example, did you know that before the Irish Rebellion of 1798 the color that was used to represent St. Patrick was blue and not green? Or how about how St. Patrick is credited with taking Christianity to Ireland? There are so many wonderful facts about the history of this holiday and the country of Ireland. It’s not all about leprechauns and Guinness over there, take a dive into Irish history to find out for yourself. Smoke a joint and get into it! Happy St Patrick’s Day!!
