In this column, we dive deep into the realm of cannabinoids, terpenes, and cultivars, examining their individual effects and the potential healing abilities they offer. With hundreds of different terpenes and cannabinoids present in the cannabis plant, each possessing unique benefits, their combined power creates a potent synergy. Terpenes and cannabinoids stand as the primary factors determining a cannabis plant's potential, impacting not only its taste and aroma but also its medicinal properties. When these compounds merge in what was once referred to as the entourage effect, finding the right cultivar could potentially transform lives. It is my hope that this column assists you in this significant journey. While Borneol might not be the most common or primary terpene, it is a remarkable compound deserving of attention. Borneol is not readily found in cannabis but proves invaluable, particularly in the creation of salves and topicals, in my opinion. However, its scarcity in concentrated doses presents a challenge due to its limited availability. Therefore, cultivating high-content strains is recommended, as adding terpenes post-growth is discouraged. Borneol boasts strong citrus notes with a hint of metallic flavor, accompanied by spicy, earthy undertones and a refreshing minty sensation, akin to herbs like mint, rosemary, mugwort, and camphor. This cooling effect enhances lung function, eases breathing, and can even alleviate bronchial symptoms. Beyond its smell, Borneol possesses a calming and sedative effect, making it beneficial in combating fatigue, stress, and aiding in recovery from chronic illnesses.
